I watched this video on my iPad and iPhone to compare the quality. HDR is a big deal, there was a world of difference in color. Can’t wait for an iPad that truly supports HDR content.
@@augustogalindo8687 ahh gotcha..I get what your saying..I just got the new iPad Pro when I upgraded to the 12 two weeks ago...it’s awesome..the 2019 iPad Pro is basically the same without the camera options
The only video out there that makes it simple to understand and do. These other videos just complicate the process with so many unnecessary steps and make it all so confusing. This video nails it and gets to the point. Thank you!
You can also transcode a 10-bit HEVC file in finder directly - Right click the rendered file > Services > Encode selected video files, then select HEVC and your resolution from the dropdown menu
This was absolutely 100% spot on - and addressing exactly what I needed - HDR video shot on iPhone 12 Pro - and editing and delivering it using FCPX on Big Sur. Thanks so much!
LIFESAVER!! This helped me convert my footage from my iPhone 12pro max to fop to edit and transfer to tiktoks with the same quality I shot with!! WELL DONE!
You just earned a new subscriber! I have been so irritated with the big HDR files not air dropping to my iPhone 12 Pro Max after exporting from FCPX. I didn't even know I had compressor, or how it evened worked. At first when exporting in HDR, I was exporting 4 GB, 1 minute videos, and I just knew that was way too huge. This method has cut the same HDR 1 minute video down to 19.5 MB, and it easily exported to my phone in seconds for upload to TikTok & Instagram. Thank you so much! This was a life saver and stress reliever!!
This is such a life saver!!! I was struggling with importing HDR videos to my project because it keeps brightening up my videos. It was such as hassle to change the color grading, good thing I found your video! Thank you so much!!
This is super saviour for me. I was struggling for few days on HDR footage from iPhone 12 Pro to my MacBook Pro. I had really difficult time trying to adjust the brightness but it was leading to all mess. Your video has helped me big time. Thanks a lot. And it is super easy :) Cheers
Awesome, thanks. I wonder how the export part still make sense these days and with M1 Pro and Max silicon and HEVC codec. Will test it out hopefully next week.
Wow. This is so beautifully concise. I love it! Gets right to what matters! I have one workflow question, please: In step 'Create HDR deliverable with Compressor' at 7:15, you demonstrate the Compressor setting with Quicktime. Why not use the exactly same workflow but with Apple Devices? Thank you. It seems for me that QT is always a longer export than 'Apple Devices'. That said, is the A Device option not good to youTube uploading? Thank you, Bob
This is great! Especially the part about compressor. The one area I am running into problems with is title plug-ins from 3rd party developers like motion vfx. When you overlay a lower 3rd title over hdr footage white text shows up as gray. Hdr tool fixes the title, but washes out the video underneath. Have you figured out a fix for that?.
How long does it take you to render an hour video? Pro Res takes hours even with my new Macbook M1 Max Pro 2021. I figured since I have a 5k macbook now, it'd zip through pro res rendering..but nope
awesome video and thank you. a few questions if you don't mind. when I airdropped the video to my phone 12 pro max I noticed the temp and the tint was a bit off. the iPhone looked a little on the cyan side where my new Mac Pro is looking more on the magenta side which I intended. I have not calibrated my MacBook Pro display since I read that they come calibrated form apple and are pretty accurate. Not sure if this is true. I am wondering if this is a discrepancy between to colors of the iPhone and the MacBook Pro display or if colors for some reason shifted during the export process?
When grading in HDR which picture profile do you have selected on the screen option in your system? I have received my MacBook Pro M1 Max 16 and it comes with different options also for P365 ( cinema projection delivery )
At the end you mentioned about a video how to render HDR in DaVinci... this was 2 month ago!!! Where is my video? Eh? I downloaded DaVinci Resolve 17. No idea how to use it, but looks like the free version can not "Deliver" HDR. You need the "Studio" one ... which is not free. Is this correct? And settings ... I'm not sure how to use them. I was thinking to use resolve to "compress"... Again your comments will be appreciated and thanks.
Jeff, this is a good one. First of all I was totally wrong editing HDR but rendering H.264. I've seen the yellow alert but I couldn't figure out the issue. But I looked at another path to rendering. I need your opinion. So I selected in export file "Format: Apple Devices". This was giving "Codec: HEVC 10-bit (HLG with Dolby Vision 8.4)". The size was like 75% of the H.264 🤔. And it is slooooooow like hell. Does this means I do not need to buy Compressor? I do not know how it is looking... it is still render 🥱
There's also a built in option to export in HEVC 10-bit. Share -> Apple devices 4k -> Change codec to HVEC 10-bit. Creates an m4v file and I can upload it to Vimeo. Haven't tested this on RUclips. Is it still necessary to buy the compressor app? And can Adobe Media Encoder also do the job converting from Prores 422 to H.265?
This has been extremely helpful for me, as I've worked hard to figure out a simple, efficient system for posting beautiful HDR videos with greatly reduced file size and minimal loss of quality. I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro Max (it does the heavy lifting), iPad 6th Gen, and Premiere Pro on Windows. Currently trying the HEVC (H.265) settings you recommended. Might have to go into Media Composer to preserve 10-bit.
Thank you for this awesome tutorial! I'm having some pulsating/flicker on my Late 2021 MacBook Pro 4TB M1 Max w/ Silicon running Ventura 13.1 during playback from both the rendered timeline and as an Apple ProRes 422 exported video. I started out with a new Library and Project and went through your settings for creating an HDR video in which everything appears correct. The clip is from an iPhone 13 Pro Max which has Color Profile BT.2020 HLG (9-18-9). Under inspector within FCPX, it shows Color Profile as HLG Dolby Vision 8.4 Would this be correct? I also connected my older non-HDR ASUS SD monitor by USB-C to Displayport which gave me back smooth playback..... Go figure?? I'd like to add, I'm not using a hub, everything is directly off my M1 Max. If you have any suggestions, I would sincerely appreciate your help. As always, Thank You for all of your awesome tutorials. Merry Christmas to you and yours!! 👍😊
I’ve been importing my SOny Experia 1 IV HDR files and its not looking great. Even with HDR tools there is a green hue in shots. I did do color correction but still not as good
It seems this process causes you to compress twice (HEVC to HEVC again) which would cause a reduction in quality .. unless FCPX intelligently transcodes instead of just compressing on top of already compressed video.
Hello! I followed your steps but am still having a major issue with the video rendering. It is slowing down my work flow majorly! I have some clips from my Canon G7x and some from my iphone 12 pro. The G7x clips play back fine but the iphone clips are choppy, even after correcting the color. I have played around with turning rendering on and off. I let clips fully render, and then the same exact clips keep rendering over and over wasting so much time. Any tips? Thanks!
You should try creating proxy media and optimize media to reduce chopping when editing your video. And always select preferred quality when exporting your video. Sorry for my bad English.

just adjust the title coloring itself. unless you mean if its already burned in, which would be a weird thing. ask client for raw video without the titling
