My all time favourite saxophonist!
His tone is so expressive, full and rich at the bottom of the register and at the top ( something not easy on alto sax!). Amazing sense of time, swing, phenomenal articulation, and an infinite musical box of original ideas. Long live Cannonball!!

Mr. Lateef was as equally a musical mastermind as Cannonball. Great pairing. Fats Navarro, The Adderley`s, Sam Jones, Willis Gatortail Jackson; some of the best musicians to come out of FL. Happy birthday to Mr. Louis Hayes (May 31st 2023) still going at 86!

It`s interesting the comparisons from Frankie Trumbauer and Jimmy Dorsey to Cannonball being altomen. Cannonball could get a deep tone on the instrument being such a big man, while Lester Young, who stated he modeled his playing first from Frankie Trumbauer, played his tenor like an alto.
