13:13 Ay, I wanna clarify rq: I said “this was my first Sonic game and it quickly grew to be one of my favorites in the series” just after talking about Sonic Colors Ultimate. However, what I meant to say was that the ORIGINAL Sonic Colors was my first Sonic game, and THAT grew to be one of my favorites. It being the first Sonic game I played assisted in how much Ultimate burned me. I don’t know how I was able to screw up in the writing that badly, but that’s on me. Sorry for probably making some of you feel old. I’m not *that* young.
Btw another thing that might bother about sonic colors ultimate is that because they couldn’t use the original engine from the Wii version they used a new one and….. look how that turned out
Sheesh, that one cutscene you showed off where Amy is just standing completely still is just creepy asf. I get it wasn't optimized for wide-screen, but still.
To be honest over the following years, SEGA hasn't been on top of their game when it comes to developing remasters. I'm hoping that they can come back from their past flaws and be a lot more open-minded. At the moment Sonic Frontiers has made a great comeback for the franchise and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the team.
I find it very telling how Sonic Adventure 2 on the GC is the best "improved" 3D sonic rerelease ever made because it is moreso an enhanced port than a remaster like SADX or Colors Ultimate. And the kicker is that it still has stuff broken nearly everywhere. It has over 400 diffrences to the DC original and a good amount of them are just stuff that worked correctly in SA2 and does not work correctly in SA2B(though tbf, there are also improvements and bugfixes that SA2B did where it is very obvious that SA2 was rushed out the door to finally kill off the Dreamcast)
I actually really wanna get a copy of Sonic Origins Plus when it comes out, it looks like a pretty big improvement while also having tons of new features like Amy and having the digital deluxe content available without extra charges, not to mention I kinda wanna try out some of the Game Gear titles
This is my first time watching you and I gotta say I absolutely love your style of videos, I can also tell that you took a lot of influence from Scott The Woz which is probably another reason why I like you.

But I still loved it cuz I was so little back then. I didn’t care about how glitchy it was, just like how I loved playing 06. It was Sonic.. That’s all 12 year old me cared about 💙
Your content has a similar feel to Scott the Woz, with its own spin, which I enjoy a lot. The callbacks to older jokes are also smart, like calling the game S**** C***** U*******
First video I've seen from you. I know this fanbase struggles with criticism for some reason, so it's refreshing to find a Sonic fan that isn't terrified of saying it how it is. Keep up the great work!
Fun Fact: Sonic Genesis was developed by Dimps in the engine that powered Advance 1, 2, and 3. It (The engine) wasn't meant to emulate the Genesis physics.
It was not. No Advance game controls or sounds like that. They were too busy with the Rush spinoffs to hand over the Advance engine to anyone. It's a 2005 J2ME-based mobile port re-ported to GBA by an otherwise unknown dev team (whether it be internal or external) that Sega gave only a few months to develop and release alongside Sonic 06, and on the same day. There's a reason why the Genesis subtitle was slapped onto it. It's also why the game uses a MIDI sound engine that lags the entire game unless all sound is turned off.
Some ports that I think are worth mentioning are the Sega Vintage Collection ports on Xbox360 and Ps3, they're pretty faithful to the original, you can change the controls freely, (Yes you can use L1 to jump, thank god) sonic 2 has an online multiplayer which is way too fun, along with a fully customiseable aspect ratio, trophy support and a save feature! I love the ports, it's how I beat sonic 1 for the first time, and I still play them every so often.
16:15 The reason why the Origins recordings sound so low quality is because they're recorded off of a real SEGA Mega Drive, which earlier models of had a low pass filter and the ladder effect (a noise caused by the DAC. The lack of high end and the weird aliasing makes them sound lower quality, but they're really meant to sound like that! 17:54, they actually are the prototype songs! They're not the same ones as present in the 11/03/93 build but instead they're actually from an earlier build of the game, compared data between 11/03 and the recordings we have of these songs, as well as several pieces of info regarding the "soundbank" and how there's 3 versions of the game, one of which lines up with Origins, means that they likely have this build lying around and used it for Origins. Their similarity to the S&KC versions is likely because they were also transcribed from this version. Your immediate afterwards hint at the idea of it being a theory is more confirmed by this!
The Sonic 3 sample makes me think they either didn't have the headphone volume up high enough, or maybe the machine needed new capacitors. Also Sonic 1's sample makes me think they may have used its mono hookup. At least they didn't use either super early models or the final MD1 revision, where audio's incredibly messed up. Granted, modding the earliest Mega Drives would fix the over-driven preamp's distortion/clipping and give higher quality.
As a sonic fan i like to see others perspective on this RAD hedgehog, sometimes what they say about him make me really angry but its there opinions. This one caught my eye not just cause its sonic but it explains things i didn't know about him and his company, THE REMAKES, some bad some good but i dont care about the visuals, i care about gameplay and sonic. The way you explained it really made me realize how much the remakes really have to be like the original games
Some fans have ported the mobile ports of Sonic 1 and 2 to PC, as Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute. I recommend giving those a try if you haven't :D
There is another positive to SADX. The Chao Garden and trading between SADX and SA2B. If you want a neutral chao, SADX is the place to go. It gives you access to more animals more often too if you dont want to use chaos drives or Tiny Chao Garden fruits, which both have their downsides compared to animals many upsides.
This is the first video ive seen of you and i love it. You kept me interested and made me laugh multiple times. Im literally downloading SA2's prototype as i heard the "or just emulate it"
Sonic 1 Genesis (GBA) seems like was made in like 1 month, trying to port the Java Mobile version (that is pretty good for what Java cellphones can do) but the port pratically didn't had any optimization and the port of the midi music to the GBA audio format was made with the @SS from the developer of the port
4:05 What do you mean we don’t deserve the game? Is it because it’s that bad? And tbh, while SA1 Digital is a bad port, it’s not a bad game. I still enjoyed it just fine.

Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut is the reason critics say Sonic had a rough transition into 3D. I compiled a list of review scores on Metacritic for each Sonic game, and the Sonic Adventure reviews or abhorrent. It seems reviews start from the year 2000 and onward, so no DC Sonic Adventure, so that only leaves reviews for SADDC. The critics are talking about it like it’s a port of the DC title. “A game that should’ve rested in peace with the good old Dreamcast.” - SpazioGames “A title revered for its looks in the years gone by both ages badly and succumbs to design logic issues... [Issue#65, p.105]” - X-ONE Magazine UK “Rather than begging the question of whether or not the Dreamcast title is still relevant, this port clearly indicates that it isn't.” - Thunderbolt Guys, you aren’t playing Sonic Adventure, you’re playing a significantly worse remake of the game with worse visuals, worse controls, and more bugs. Stop talking about it like it’s Sonic Adventure, and start talking about it as a poor remaster. Sonic Adventure is actually good, too bad Sega ruined the games reputation by putting out this junk.
Perfectly possible that they simply didn't liked it, even without the bugs the core gameplay doesn't change. And if you don't like it to begin with you also won't like the DC version.
0:47 YSK Sonic Origins and the Android ports ARE complete remakes with a bunch of changes done to the game, it's just that most people who didn't grow up on the Genesis don't know the difference
Personally, the thing that makes me not like Sonic Origins and made me not buy it (besides the price) is the lack of a life system. I've noticed Sega has removed lives from the Sonic series as of late. First with Forces, then Colors Ultimate, then Origins, and now Frontiers, with Superstars seeming to not have them either. Designing a game without a life system is fine, but when you remove it from an old game clearly designed with such a system in-mind with practically no option to re-enable it just feels really lame. Like sure, *technically* you can still play with lives in Origins, but the mode that you can do that in also arbitrarily makes you play in 4:3, even though the primary reason to play the Origins versions over the original Genesis versions is the widescreen, so at that point why even play in that mode at all? Especially when the other modern changes are still in classic mode, negating the whole point of it. So unless they fix this alongside Origins' other problems (which I KNOW they won't, this is Sega), I likely won't be getting Origins. I'll just stick with Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute, and Sonic 3 AIR.
A good way to play the Christian Whitehead versions of Sonic 1, 2, and CD is to play them on PC through the decompiled versions. Also you have Sonic 3 AIR for Sonic 3, which is leagues better than the one in Origins.
Ironically, while Sega does a mixed job at making Sonic remakes, Sonic fans do a way better job. Sonic Triple Trouble 16 Bit is a beautiful genesis styled remake of a game gear glassic, p-06 takes one if the most infamous Sonic games and makes it cool, Sonic Advance Revamped is looking pretty neat, etc.
Man, you forgot about the Brazilian Sonic Blast remaster for the Master System (yes, this is a real thing that happened). Here in Brazil, the Master System was one of, if not the best selling console from it's time. And the only reason for that it's because it was cheap. And the Game Gear was a failure around here. So, TecToy, wich was Sega's distributor here, made a lot of ports of Game Gear Games to the Master System, and Sonic Blast was one of them. It was slower, uglier, but at least, it wasn't zoomed in as much as the Game Gear version.
