I worked at Best Buy during the PS2 era. That yellow Nyko memory card was sold more mainly because it was cheaper than the Sony one, but there was a time where Sony had a shortage of memory cards and the Nyko one was the only one worth getting. I believe there was a Mad Katz one as well but that was junk and it was constantly returned. Thanks for the awesome video
@@rochie4865 I tried to steer people away from Mad Katz. We would get a lot of returns on their products. I was told their products got better over the years but I never bought anything from them. Do you still have that memory card? 😅
I hooked up my PS2 a few years ago and the Mad Katz controller that worked when i boxed the system up wasn't working anymore, luckily I still have one official controller
Sad there’s no memory cards for these type videos anymore, but I can’t wait for “breaking into my neighbors houses to check their ps5 saves” will be a banger of a video
In a way yes and no. Long and semantics sorry can't help it. XD Factory reset consoles of course can't but if profiles/saves on the system and not factory reset or a removed hard drive/hard drive failure it kind of does count if it's still intact it's just memory cards offer more chances. That and if people have a hard drive to their PS2 modded or not. Like a PS5 M.2 or an external hard drive id they are left in the console or sold with it on eBay or something and not removed content/reset then it'd be similar. Same with a SD card on Switch or Wii, or 3DS/Wii U (besides the stuck to console eshop downloads Wii U/3DS has of factory reset, brain age is not a bundled game on Wii U I know besides the free download apps and games or removed ones maybe left on the system ). 360 being the last to have memory cards they would be the last to do that kind of thing besides being a hard drive system like OG Xbox was as well and had controller ports like N64/Dreamcast had and I never knew what they were for but I assume memory cards? Memory cards for GameCube/PS2 offer a better experience at this sort of thing for sure though I won't deny that. It's great and enjoyed checking out saves, not done so SingStar high scores, and all that videos like this can offer and going wait these games, these saves, if I see the games in stores and go hmm that must be where they sold them to it fills in the picture a bit more. What videos, what saves, profiles, photos, whatever was saved and not deleted off memory cards I'd the staff selling them went and removed everything one by one of they wanted to off these memory cards yet they don't so it's great for us/the next owner to see the saves files on the cards. Which for PS2/3 games or has for some I've bought. I have some on my Super Slim PS3 I bought and checked a few files with a few games I had or bought and went oh so that's why those games ended up at the store I bought them front so a few things aligned. Same with my Wii U I know Brain Age on DS is not a bundle game for Wii U (closest would be the Japanese Pokemon Gameboy games on 3DS or Mario Bros NES I rhtit was with 3DS or something) that's for sure but that's how the console does purchases it syncs to the console that way unlike others to the user account. That's with the Wii U being factory reset too when I bought the 2nd Wii U I had to set up it from scratch. So not the same as the Wii with eshop purchases or whatever photos on an SD card or something or a disk in the diks drive kind of thing people do with testing consoles videos but regardless of account or factory reset digital purchases will stay there. So 3DS/Wii U are sort of unique that way besides of course a 360/PS3 profiles/files and whatever is left on them and if even PSN/PS store access which of course factory reset saves people from. Bought a 2nd Wii U and it had Mario Kart 8 on it. My guess the owner did or it's a Mario Kart 8 bundle Wii U. I have not checked the eshop purchases because it will mess with my account. I don't own MK8 at all so to me it was a fair pickup for a digital copy of the game.
You gotta figure that a lot of these save files that are only single digit % complete were probably rentals. Back in the day sometimes you'd go to Blockbuster, pick out a random game based on the box art and hoped for the best. You'd get home, throw it in the console and within an hour or two you knew you had a BUST. Happened all the time.
Very Relatable Comment , my brother and I had rented Def Jam FFNY from a Videothek back in around 2012 or maybe even 2013 since we wanted to play it again after a long time ... always at 8% Completion of Story Mode the game was freezing , Reset the PS2 and you can start it up again and still when repeating the fight it would Freeze .... not even 6 hours of renting it my brother me and my mom went back to turn the game back in to the Videothek
Can you imagine the original owners of these memory cards watching this video? Like imagine THAT Rebecca and Jeff and Chris watching their old high scores being surpassed by some dude lol
Make sense, if we do see niche games I assume those memory cards may be rare too. Whatever Simple Series game and other weird Japanese games of the time or Rule of Rose save file or something. Whatever examples can fit. The easiest to find games, cheap memory cards, makes sense, what people come across at the time, what looks fun enough, what tv or movie IPs which for kids memory cards makes sense and similar games to the popular ones. Some of us may come across niche games, movies, books and music but mostly start a medium with the popular then work our way to the niche or stay at the popular or more gamer/bookworm and movie fan enthusiast surface level. We don't all start with niche. If we do likely bootlegs or ripoffs/shovel ware.
I only had one friend who ever finished San Andreas back when we were kids. Everyone else I knew would just play the first couple of missions and then just use the cheats to get the weapons, Hydra, jetpack etc so they could go on rampages.
Literally 😂 Rockstar gave way too much freedom to players. Even the incentives to further the story like locked parts of the map wasn’t enough for most kids at the time. I too am guilty of getting lost in the cheats and rampages lol Kudos to your friend though that takes some real focus and dedication

That was a fun video Ryan. I've been playing a lot of PS2 and PS3 lately. Hell, I get nostalgic on looking at my old memory card saves. It always puts me back where my son was 6 and 7 years old having great game sessions with him. My son was lucky that his dad was a gamer. Anyways, it's always fun to look back at memory cards. I always enjoy when you do that.
I love simply looking through these old saves, it's so cool to see what these people were playing back in the day! so interesting how they just sold their memory sticks as is
I just recently bought a PS2 and a bunch of games. I just finished Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and I am currently playing Max Payne 1, it's so exciting to be back with the console that got me into video games.
Love this. I wish I still had my GTA and GT4 saves which was almost complete at like 96 percent complete I believe. I spent an unhealthy amount of time on GTA 3/VC and GT4.
Ryan I have been so looking forward to your next series exploring used memory cards! It's so fun to see what people were playing, when and how much they played, plus their scores. I really enjoyed this next one, and man you seriously just make me want to buy a bunch of used memories cards and see what there is to discover of the PS2's past titles. You got to love the mystery and nostalgia of it all!
Best part about the PS2 memory cards is that no real personal stuff was stored on them, unlike now when it’s almost a requirement to completely wipe a hard drive before getting rid of a game system. Progress in The Force Unleashed on PS2 will always be there!
Video idea! Those wrestling games had custom characters, moves, entrances and everything and it would be so cool if you showed some off from these memory cards!
As a 14 year old I played a bit of ps2 when I was 5 (it was my brothers console). Every time I logged on i always felt this joy and excitement. But 12 years later I still felt the same feeling like they did in the 00s
Fun to see Ace Combat in here, I recently got into the series myself and been playing a bunch of them. So far 0 and 7 are my faves in the series, but I hear 5 is really good and I haven't gotten to it yet.
It will come, the rest of the ps2 games and some ps1 have had trophies added a little later on. And, they auto pop trophies if your save has completed to the requirements for the trophies.
Still got my old memory cards lying around somewhere but sadly no console. This just makes me wanna go back and see everything I did and maybe finish what I couldn't. Might have to buy another PS2 lol.
Im so glad you made another one of these videos. I've seen other RUclipsrs started doing the same. I really think you started a new trend. Keep it up. YOU ROCK!!!
I usually use Max Memory cards with 64 Mbit, they're a little slower to save than original cards but the fact they can hold 8x times the content definitely makes them worth it. I really need to restart playing PS2, adult life sucks without a little gaming in between grown up tasks!
There's something about this series on your channel that always hits a nostalgia factor. Maybe it's the idea that you're viewing a moment in time for random people around the world and you have no clue as to where they are these days but they've likely forgotten about these childhood memories saved in a memory card.
You just make the best videos man. I could watch these random pick ups forever. I also had the ugly yellow Nyko card LOL. I wish PlayStation would go back to 3D save icons instead of just images now.
So many of my favorites still are on PS2 Hitman: Bloodmoney, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Silent Hill 2, King Kong, WWE smackdown Vs Raw 2007, Golden Eye Rogue Agent, Ridge Racer V, ect..
i go through a lot of second hand mem cards and i do find plenty between 2010-2015 with save files on a mix of kids games and system defining titles, typically with only a few hours worth of progress. i always wonder if these are largely from that new generation phase bringing a wave of nostalgia, added to that is the fact that many of the games are sitting at around 10 years old at the time of the save files, i think a lot of memory cards are from people pulling their systems out of the cupboard for one last swan song before moving on.
For that latest years saves I see too I agree very likely for sure if people going ah hmm keep or sell and remember the games/brief experience then again, get stuck and don't remember how to beat them, play one last time, maybe a hand me down to someone then going nah. Thing is that much effort to buy it, get the emotions/memories then sell it seems a bit of a waste. Whether graphics or whatever scenes/effort amor they don't have the time anymore or go eh can play modern games/play the old ones on modern instead. But us collectors/enjoyers of older games and FINISH our games know what we're in for or open to the surprise of a game we don't hear about and going in blind is part of the fun. Or know and just want to finally experience it after hearing aor about them. Older saves I'd assume game difficulty, or pure boredom of the games as only so much to go off for marketing/word of mouth and all.
It could also be young kids who only have a PS2 and are playing video games for the first time. I first started playing PS2 games in 2011 when I was 5, and I didn't have a PS3 at the time, so the PS2 was the only proper console I had besides learning toys. You bet I enjoyed every game I played on the console, even though I didn't know what to do half the time. I like to imagine there's some kid who only has a PS2 and is playing these games in 2024 for the first time, and I bet they're enjoying their time playing the games too.
I have a lot of memory cards too for the PS2 with lots of save files for a lot of old PS2 games, some of which are even over 20 years old already as well!
These videos are great man so cool looking back at this stuff and they’re also just some chill and cozy videos pretty much. I loved seeing some katamari also it’s one of my favorite game series and something about the ps2 version and how it looks is just nicer than the remake tbh but I still love both. I hope you do more vids like this again
If the Legend of Spyro games hadn't come out when I was a kid I'm sure I would have hated them too after playing the original trilogy. But even though they are completely different than the PS1 games I love them too.
I kept all my memory cards. I used to go back and play some of my old games on my backwards compatible PS3 until it burned out. I still have the PS2 games and a PS2 slim they work on.
IF you don't like Resident Evil in general i'd still highly recommend RE4, it's probably the best action game of all time, it's not really a horror game, i can't imagine you wouldn't love it considering the games you're into.
I never played those games, but I remember seeing my dad playing it when I was little, and I remember seeing he got his head cut off from a chainsaw monster
Seen similar as a review channels for ALL GameCube (ChronCube), all Dreamcast (Schmid Dreamcast Files) and I think PS2 but not the channel you mentioned. Might check it out if they do long plays or just let's plays or walkthroughs of all PS2 games. Whatever they are going for.
Burnout 3 is an incredible game. Gotta love seeing that one here. I’ve put hundreds of hours into that over the years. Would love if they put it it on PlayStation premium. I can dream
Other than music or if EA cares about the old game advertising I know Burnout 3 has and of course Paradise had the more dynamic changing ads. Music/old game logos and things or the voice for the DJ maybe are the only issues as the cars have no licensing so they could do it. If Burnout Revenge for 360 can be back compat on Xbox One/Series it's up to them if they want to, have to delay with the licensing or ability to remove elements or just simply have the source code/assets on them for PS2 or the PSP entries which bundle parts of the main games I think as some PSP games did do to be best ofs like Ridge Racer on PSP was similar to the Burnout PSP games that way or so I've heard can only confirm for Ridge Racer 2 as own it before it was PS+ available. But we can only sit and wait. Glad picked up 1, 2, 3 and Revenge on PS2 nowadays as I never played them before. Though getting fished for 2 in a Revenge case was annoying but oh well. Only the PSP entries to buy now. So got 2 Revenge cases (one platinum woth 2, fhe regular one qoth Revenge in it). Had tbis before woth Incredibles movie game with F1 2001 PS2 CD game and WRC 2 Extreme case worh Gran Turismo 4 in it so my 2nd copy I keep as a bonus besides my white box original copy.
That game has one of the best online experiences as well, you're basically solving a puzzle and racing at the same time. The online traffic is predetermined so it's always the same, you have to remember where it's at so you don't crash and have a chance against the better players. It gets really intense when you can see second behind you and knowing it's over if you crash once. Playing online has a certain adrenaline that the single-player doesn't have in my opinion, and that's why I like it so much.
This was wonderful I love seeing what players had on their save files and how far they have gotten. Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas was great back then. But I loved Grand Theft Auto : Vice City more. I love this series next to the pickups and news. Cool video. ^_^
For NFSU2 you need to go to the customize car menu before going into career mode to see the cars they made. I rememeber as a kid, I wouldnt play the career mode so much, but I would just customize the cars in free play.
I always liked the nyko cards cause they had a thumb point to pull it out. Also mission 27 on ac5 is probably my favorite mission but first play thru I got stuck on it for straight up like 2 weeks.
Great video! I don't know if you would be interested in more quality capture of the ps2 since I think you are using composite cables but if yes I can recommend a Retrotink 5x + Component Cables from Retrovision. Works wonders for the PS1 as well. 😊
Some of these save files with barely any play were either games they rented or was a Christmas or birthday present they didn't ask for and barely played it or didn't like it.
I know Ryan would have edited it but I am always wary when looking through player created simling names, when they can literally call characters whatever they want.
So on Resident Evil. I'm old enough to have played the OG's when they came out but I never did. RE7 was my first RE. I played it at launch and I completely caught the RE bug. I am addicted to RE games. I mostly play the new ones, but I have checked out the old ones. RE7 is till my favorite with RE4 remake a close 2nd.
I’ve got somewhat close to 8 billion credits on GT4 and extremely close to reaching 100%, but the Driving Missions is what’s preventing me from reaching that.

I found you because of these videos. Keep it up :)
6:31 you're not the only one, I'm one of those people too
8:38 it reminds me of a YTP GTA SA video I saw that used that song 🤣
These videos are great man so cool looking back at this stuff and they’re also just some chill and cozy videos pretty much. I loved seeing some katamari also it’s one of my favorite game series and something about the ps2 version and how it looks is just nicer than the remake tbh but I still love both. I hope you do more vids like this again
Man, seeing the Axe Combat games brought back some memories. My brother got Ace Combat 4 and by far had one of the best stories in that franchise.
If the Legend of Spyro games hadn't come out when I was a kid I'm sure I would have hated them too after playing the original trilogy. But even though they are completely different than the PS1 games I love them too.
This is such a cool concept for a video. Seriously well done coming up with this
I kept all my memory cards. I used to go back and play some of my old games on my backwards compatible PS3 until it burned out. I still have the PS2 games and a PS2 slim they work on.
I bought a couple PS2 Mem Cards earlier this year and I shouldn't have just wiped them. Could have been fun to play on. Great video idea!
that Socom 3 save was made 5 days after i was born. pretty cool (that midnight club save was made 19 days after) i like to fixate on dates idk why
man, would be amazing if one of your viewers was the owner of these memory cards
15:50 - In its simplicity, seems better than most kinect games.
I love the PS2 memory card icons
Suikoden 2….a ps1 save file on a ps2 card? Didn’t know you could do that.😳
Yep, but unfortunately you can't able to load the save file on the PS2 Memory Cards
There is a youtube channel PS2 or die and his goal is to play through every ps2 game.
He plays the most random obscure games.
Given that there’s around 5,000 PS2 games, he’s gonna be busy for a bit.
Great video Ryan! Always love when you do these ones.
PlayStation 2 opening screen will remain solid for the ages to come.
These videos are the pinnacle of nostalgia. Totally brings back childhood memories. Take me back 🥲
Legend of Spyro 1 and 2 are fantastic, 2 of my favorite PS2 games.
I'd love to have a stack of ps2 memory cards that large, hech I'd love to have more then one spare card
Playing online has a certain adrenaline that the single-player doesn't have in my opinion, and that's why I like it so much.
ps2 memory cards are also region free
Map is Harry Potter, the map where they say "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" or something like that
This was wonderful I love seeing what players had on their save files and how far they have gotten. Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas was great back then. But I loved Grand Theft Auto : Vice City more. I love this series next to the pickups and news. Cool video. ^_^
Jeff figured out the money grinding method in GT4, did the entire GTWS and called it a day
Twinsanity isn’t bad it was just heavily rushed.
Wait.... The eye toy had playable games! Let me go dig mine out!
MYTHIC UPLOAD TUESDAY MORNING WE GOT ENTERTAINMENT ON LUNCH BREAK MY DUDES
For NFSU2 you need to go to the customize car menu before going into career mode to see the cars they made. I rememeber as a kid, I wouldnt play the career mode so much, but I would just customize the cars in free play.
I always liked the nyko cards cause they had a thumb point to pull it out. Also mission 27 on ac5 is probably my favorite mission but first play thru I got stuck on it for straight up like 2 weeks.
That card with all the saves that were bearly started; I bet they rented those games and didn't manage to get far
curious, what do you do with all the memory cards after you beat their save files? do you re-sell them? keep em?
Great video! I don't know if you would be interested in more quality capture of the ps2 since I think you are using composite cables but if yes I can recommend a Retrotink 5x + Component Cables from Retrovision. Works wonders for the PS1 as well. 😊
Scarface! That was a fantastic game. I’m so bummed I can’t play it now
GTA San Andreas save file 2: heard about the casino? When you win you save, when out of money you load. No cheat, just smart.
Some of these save files with barely any play were either games they rented or was a Christmas or birthday present they didn't ask for and barely played it or didn't like it.
Wish you checked out those Devil summoner 2 save files, wanted to see how far they made it
Bro, hope you can play wukong soon, shit looks awesome
playing it right now, the game is fun
You got me with the Sims before the financial crisis 😂😂
Not knowing the Harry Potter one from marauder's map :')
That reaction to Riders on the storm lets me know I'm subbed for good reason lmaooo
*yells at you for not liking resident evil*
I know Ryan would have edited it but I am always wary when looking through player created simling names, when they can literally call characters whatever they want.
The “map” is almost certainly a save from Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban. I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
Love this concept keep it coming
Nice, wish I kept most of ps2 games :( oh well, I'll continue my collection at some point
The king's of all console's & winning since 1995 era's.
Need for speed underground the best racing game
0:07 Time to change the cmos battery Ryan!
The map one was for harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban a (masterpiece of a game)
I really like this start up. I got it as ps4 dynamic theme. Don't know if it still is available.
Love these videos man ✌️
I’ve got somewhat close to 8 billion credits on GT4 and extremely close to reaching 100%, but the Driving Missions is what’s preventing me from reaching that.
I just bought a memory card at Mexico City Metro and it has a “Rule of Rose” save file.
