I'm so glad you like to share. Nice to see some earlier work of some favourite players such as Dame Judi Dench.

Part 1. I researched this Charleston craze but actually there were only two songs played over and over again one of which was called The Charleston. Each generation searches for catching rhythms to dance on and always the parents hate it which guarantees the success of the new rhythm. Wonderful life.

Thank you. I love Nancy Mitford and have longed to see this series again since I first saw it when I was quite a young girl. It made my day finding this on RUclips.

What I loved about those days was the way parents were allowed to be actual parents and call their children out unapologetically for immaturity, etc. Firm discipline delivered with love was a very reassuring thing for the young....

I thought I heard the song called, "Tiptoe through the tulips". I did not know that song was so old. I though Tiny Tim, wrote it.

      Tiptoe through the Tulips
      wasn't written by Tiny Tim.
He only Recorded it, in the late 60's.
The song was written by Burke & Dubin ,in 1929

"Did you put in enough gas?" "Never mind that." And the the conversation betweetwo young women in a car continues about clothes, présentation and men. I found this to be a perfectly accurate rendition of how a woman's priorities are.

Delightful series, beautifully executed but I still think Alan Bates was more convincing in the role .Could you imagine Richard Aldridge thrashing eight Germans to death with his trenching tool ? Alan Bates? Oh,yes.

Of course they mixed up the two novels. Mitford was not a great writer and by rearranging events it made the story more coherent. I thought it was, on the whole, well done.

    • @rodsgod4x

Nancy was great writer andeach book was a sensation on its own including "Highland Fling"

    • @rodsgod4x
      @rodsgod4x 6 лет назад +4

Some of the same story is told in each book you have to have a good memory or chart the characters. nancy not very attractive and the other Mitfords were beauties except Jessica was funny-looking.
Brother Tom whom they adored almost incestuously was killed in WWII
There was no money so Nancy began writing. She had friends in publishing, including Evelyn Waugh, so she got a shot and her books were all Best-Sellers.

Dorothy Willis This is a terrible production, choppy and boring and dull. Nancy Mitford is a great writer. This series does no justice to The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate.

@@irenemax3574 If that's your opinion, don't watch it. And if you think Nancy Mitford is a great writer -- well, you are entitled to your opinion. Obviously her books speak to you in a special way. No harm done.

It may be you are the wrong generation for this. This seems very real to me, especially in this period. Wealthy old families had tons of old males who resembled Matthew. All very real.
And the animal mad girls were exactly the same in my youth. Sadly, so long ago, now.

Not Jessica. Red Jessie :) but whatever, she wrote some modern classics such as The American Way of Death, a witty exhumation of the funeral racket.
