- We take it back to the couch to share our views, experiences and stories with another Proud, Black, Gay Couple, Kerry and Pierre. Like us, they are also in a cross Cultural relationship and have hopes of inspiring marginalized LGBTQ+ people, particularly in the African American and Caribbean communities, that love in any form is valid.
In this video we all connect over drinks while we share what it’s like being gay couples in the public eye. This will probably be the first of many discussions to come so let us know what you guys would love to hear us talk about next!

As always, I enjoyed watching the video. Love how both couples are using your platforms to speak out about gay issues that we all have to manage. I always enjoy the positive image of gay black male love you all display. You guys are right! Growing up, there weren’t any positive images of gay black men. Sadly, many of us had to navigate from childhood to adulthood figuring out our gayness in silence. This is the main reason why I subscribed to your channel and respond to the videos. Thanks for serving as a demonstration and model for other gay black men and gay black couples.

But yes we definitely see it as extremely important to try and showcase our version of the gay experience to add to the conversation in the hope of normalizing it. It has been therapeutic as well, is in our 30s being able to have these conversations now that we couldn’t when actually going through them. This was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND NECESSARY! We need to see more Black Gay Relationships like these two, it’s relationships like these, that will help break stigmas, help change perspectives, we need more representation of the different type of Black Gay Men…wow just wow, I hope you all can make this a regular segment additional to the vlogs. I literally fear having to come out publicly and I am no longer in Jamaica, but this helped a whole lot.
Thanks Lee! It was even eye opening and reassuring for us as well having the conversation. So many gems and experiences shared that I’m sure many of us can relate to whether in relationships or just as queer people of color out in the world! We definitely want to do more of this in the future and are working on it. Well one thing we can say about coming out is to do it on your own terms and in your own time. If you feel like you are at a point where you feel doing that will help you grow or feel free then do it for you and for no one else. I appreciated Kerry's comment about how it is important for other gay black men to have examples of Black Gay Couples being in solid relationships and proving that it can be done. It gives us another image to look at and proves that not all gay black men are in the streets engaging in loose sexual behavior. Some of us actually want a healthy committed relationship, that will lead to marriage. Kudos to all 4 of you!! Keep up the great work. Can't wait for Part 2.

Hello guys! I couldn't wait to click the LIKE button, as I thoroughly enjoyed the couple's conversation. Being of a certain age now, I only wish this kind of experience could have been shared years ago. I am of the opinion that a lot of the negative experiences many of us as a community might have had is simply because (of what you all have said) we have not had the opportunity to visualize positive imagery. For purposes of disclosure, it was difficult for me to accept who I am, simply because I did not fit the stereotype. I thank God for social media and especially for you guys demonstrating, in a positive way, that there are varying types of people that do exist in our community.....

The gay fraternity in Ghana is under enormous attack and this video was heaven sent. Truly, heaven sent and you guys have become the example of love and acceptance we didn’t have growing up. You guys have inspired me to live my truth unapologetically even in a homophobic country. Thank you guys so much.
Well being from the Caribbean Kerry and I can definitely relate to that quite a bit. Jamaica being notoriously one of the most homophobic countries in the western world it definitely was very scary at times growing up and even now living as a man publicly out. I’ve seen interviews of people speaking of the experience in Ghana and I know too that it is probably even worse there and in neighboring countries. That was a nice "true to self" conversation you all had with each other. It really was even better because it was so unexpected and unscripted. We were all hanging out and then decided to shoot after having such good convos with each other. @@MeetTheMazelins: Absolutely I support! I'm supposed to be going to Jamaica to visit family this summer after 6 years and I'm afraid, to be honest. Years ago I was called a batty man by some men hustling outside the airport (which I absolutely hate and thankfully it wasn't public) despite being very self-conscious of acting as masculine as possible. What happened to Alec frightens me and that's my biggest fear.
@@FINEDIAMOND We completely get that fear and why you would feel that way. You know its funny that so many men in particular in Jamaica class other men as "batty man" for the dumbest reasons once they don't act the way they deem appropriate (which is no example to follow). However, I think us as gay or queer people really take the utmost offense because we feel that they are using something against us that we can't change about ourselves. While I would definitely tell you to still be very aware and have your guard up, please don't let that hinder your experience too much. Know that they aren't worth a response or the the reaction from you and don't give them the satisfaction of such either. Most times getting no reaction they tend to just leave you alone. we do hope that you happen a positive experience while you are there though. Much Love!

Hey Kamron! Well we know first hand how draining and emotionally taxing that can be. Even though I have come to be more open about it all it still very much is a process where I have good days where I’m extremely positive and other days where I may be down and very in my head. So it’s a constant process to unlearn the shame that has been instilled from such a young age. But each day does get better, and I can confidently say that those around me who have positively influenced my life have surely been instrumental in that process. I’m glad that you have benefitted from this convo and we will definitely strive to continue giving more visual representations to our community through our discussions and videos here. I watch this video and I sit and get a lump in my throat because I lived a lie until I was 54. Grew up in a small town so I got married to avoid being rediculed as an adult like I was as a child. But after our son was somewhat self supportive, I realized that I just couldn’t live a lie anymore. I am living my truth now. No relationship but I am living out my last years of my life not caring what anyone thinks about me. My biggest supporter is my sister and a few friends. My son says it doesn’t matter to him but I see things that show otherwise. But I am who God created ❤❤

I understand exactly what you meant when you said people would say we do not look gay. As a lesbian who lives in Jamaica and married to my wife I get that all the time. People will always say I don’t act like a lesbian or look like a lesbian. We are people. How are we supposed to look?
Exactly as if there is one mold or box that we all fit in. The worst part is that people say that too as if it’s some sort of compliment, not realizing it’s insulting our identity as well. Always confuses us Tee.

Anybody who has a problem with consenting adults who are so deeply in love, they are willing to risk everything for, is most likely evil and have no idea of what real unconditional love is. The deep soul level love is so hard to come by because most people have too many conditions on what defines love. Congratulations on your freedom and for promoting real unconditional love.
We definitely agree with that, particularly about people having too many conditions. Love is a process of not only accepting the other but also building that person up and encouraging them at each stage, growing together as a unit, and that’s definitely what we hope to promote.
