Most of those miles are highway and interstate driving. I normally drive from Atlanta to Chattanooga and Nashville during those trips I average about 42mpg. I have averaged 44mpg before. I do full synthetic oil changes every 5000-7000 miles depending on what the oil looks like at the 5000 mark. It is unfortunate that what looks like a lot of you have had bad experiences with this car. I hope nothing catastrophic happens to this car. Knock on wood.
Update I am at 110k miles. The idling could be a little better it idles at 750rpm. Again I don't drive it like a race car. I do from time to time floor it. I will be taking it to Nissan in a week to have the cvt fluid replaced for routine maintenance and probably have them replace coolent and the brake fluid. But other than that the car runs fine.
I have a '13 sentra. bought it with 9 miles on it. I'm currently at 53,000 miles. literally not a single issue. I do all my own oil and filter changes every 3,000 miles and take it into nissan every 30,000 for a cvt flush. so far I have had 2 software updates and a throttle body recall. cost me nothing. I couldn't be happier. CVTs are higher maintenance. do your services at nissan exactly when the manual says and don't cut corners. don't try to drive it like an audi either. it's a gutless, economical commuter. it's meant to be driven easy. do this and the sentra will treat you right. I love it. wish I got the SR though

Nissans are extremely high maintenance. Worse yet, Nissans are unreliable and unsafe. Yours will fail, but just a matter of when and where. Drive an Audi instead.
SRs are good bro. Well so far mines been good. I got 2014 sr and got it at 87,000 miles, now I got 95,000 miles on it and it’s lowkey been ight. I drive it fast too lol and put it on sports, eco mode, and so far good.
I have a 13 sentra, with only 110,000 km on it and the clutch in the tranny Is burning , but all together with that and tie rods and ball joints I've only spent 3 k so not to bad
My transmission in my 2013 Altima went out at 41,000 miles last week. The dealer fixed it but I'm not sure how long this new transmission will last. Still under warranty but it sucks how unreliable nissans are now. Also when my transmission went, it went out at a busy intersection. Had to call the police to protect other drivers and my car . I got out of it and left it in the street until the cop came on the scene . He help me get it out of the street and waited for the tow truck to come . . I think it's dangerous how the transmission goes out with no warning most of the time .
SUPER ROOKIE no, I’m a slow to highway speed driver and I had my transmission go after 30k miles. Either it’s defective or Nissan needs to do a better job of training their techs to work on cvts
SUPER ROOKIE No these transmissions have garbage cooling systems. The fluid gets hot and causes rapid degradation. Because of this you either have to replace the fluid every 30,000 miles or install an aux trans cooler and replace the fluid ever 60,000 miles. This is especially true if you live in a hot climate.
I have a 2013 Sentra which we drove off the lot which now has 75k miles. Currently experiencing this after having had the alternator and transmission replaced. Coded P0101, a service bulletin to clean throttle body, replace my PCV valve, and reprogram my computer. Idle issue continues similar to yours, I've noticed that it mostly occurs when the fan goes on but I'm done putting money into this car which I've maintained through the years. Like you, I'm going for a Camry, but a Hybrid. :-)

Because the Mazda 3 is basically a Ford Focus in disguise. American made so it’s much better than Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, & Kia. Only thing that comes remotely close to a Focus or 3 is a Chevy Cruze
I have a 14' Sentra sr it has about 71k miles, mostly highway miles. We've had issues with ours too. We've never had a problem with the idling but when driving rpms would go high and wouldn't shift until I let go of the gas and then it down shifts. We had the headliner replaced before warranty was out b/c it had rust spots show through out the headliner and the rust came back through the new headliner. We had the cv joint axel replaced twice. The airbag "off" sensor fixed but now it came back up. I hate the CVT!!! My husband drives it mostly b/c he works out of town. The gas mileage is good avg. 34 mpg. But this car is a disappointment. And we can't trade it b/c negative equity and we are not in a place to afford a higher payment. Errr.... never again will we get a Nissan!!!!
sorry to see you had this problem I've owned a 2011, 13, 14, and now 2015 sr never had problems. I drove them hard did all kinds of performance mods and never had any issues. like I said sentras are great cars. every car brand has a defective car now and then you were just the unlucky one. best of luck with your toyota.
am an mechanic and a car was brought to my workshop today with an issue like this but I don't no wat exactly is wrong with it,any idea may be I could use some help
Emmanuel Casillas of course I did I had all my invoices when since I purchased the car.. anyways so happy I'm done with that car.. my Camry has 0 issues running like a champ!
I just bought a brand new super sentra last month. When Im driving and give the gas at rpm 1000~2000, the car wheel appearing shivering, especially with air conditioner/on, and the shivering goes wilder at rpm 1000~2000 when I drive on a long slope or short slope. It's a good car fancy outside, and "rotten" inside.
I have the 2014 SV basic model. Is it normal that when you are in sport mode and go to slow down (not an sudden slow down) that the car has an extremely quick/hard downshift? It throws me a bit forward in the seat when it downshifts.
Dani LeClair well you put it in a mode made for quick response conditions so it will slow down while downshifting so you can make turns quicker. people do that at the race track where I'm at but don't do it on normal commutes because that can wear out the gears a bit faster.
I have a 2014 sentra and the CVT belt completely broke after 60k miles, and I never drive heavy... So they replaced the entire CVT.... with a " new " one. And now, when I drive down the highway, the overdrive randomly shuts off? Its crazy.
No it's not. I have same car an SV. it started dying on me like his. Then it wouldn't start. Got conned into buying new alternator $560 then got new battery. Also had the MAF cleaned. Now it's doing exactly what his is doing, surging revving shuddering hesitation when I accelerate. It's a fucked situation. At least my car went up to almost 100k miles but I've only had it for 2.5 years.
I had a red 2014 Nissan, and it had all the bells and whistles, key fob, a backup camera, navigation, it had every option. I was a piece of shit, a hail storm came thru and totaled it out! I got a new 2014, with no bells and whistles just a 40 mpg car, it works like a dream no problems whatsoever!
My Nissan sentra 2014 has been shaking after the engine sign came on, I have worked on the CVT twice, yet same problem. It just won't speed especially when driving through hilly place, you need to burn more gas. Please can any body help?
I drive mine 100 miles round trip too, no problems but it started to make a whine noise once i reached 120k miles. Still drives fine except the noise. Changed transmission fluid drained only about 1 qt but just got told there is 7.25 in total so not sure what to do next. Trying to find info to DIY. You should get at least 1/2 to 3/4 of full amount out. May need to take it in if I cant figure it out.

I rented a 2014 Nissan Sentra back in 2015 only 23 thousand miles drove it to Tampa on New Year’s Eve on my way back to Orlando it started making a loud clunking noise halfway through the trip when we entered Orlando It got so bad I’m like OMG I think I’m not going to make it home! Dropped two of my friends off to their house. My last leg back to my home about 10 miles away it finally quit on me. I was stranded for 2 hrs as it was a holiday and the two trucks were few and far between. Next day I called the rental and asked them what happened to the car they told me the engine was blown. I’m like but how could that happen? The car never indicated it was low on oil or a check engine light never illuminated I mean nothing! I made a note to myself to never EVER under any circumstances buy any type of Nissan that was just plain ridiculous 🤦🏾♀️
I just took my 2010 into the Nissan service department with less than 120,000 miles on it. My transmission is whining when I drive for about an hour when it's hot outside. When it's cold like now, it will not go past 20 miles per hour with the paddle all the way down to the floor after warming the car up over 30 minutes, after around 40 minutes of being warmed up it will perform like it's ok. I just posted a video showing what it does.

Frank I just experienced this same issue this weekend. My Sentra is at the dealership now. Did they replace it a second time? Powertrain warranty is only 60k miles. I wonder if the will cover these issues after the powertrain warranty!
#Wendy Dorival..All CVTs in any make or model cars are prone to heat buildup, especially on hot days, using inclines, stop and go traffic etc. This makes the computer go into failsafe mode. The guaranteed way to prevent heat soak in a CVT is to use a Group 5 Full synthetic ester based CVT fluid, together with an auxiliary transmission in-line cooler. The best CVT synthetic fluid on the market is REDLINE NON-SLIP CVT FLUID. One CVT cooler that can be used is the DERALE : D13503. Put these two together and you'll be happy with your Nissan for life.
The transmission of my 2015 sentra nissan got replaced at 40,700miles ( 1 year and 9 months since i got it 0 miles) and i have the same question. What protect us after the 60,000 miles? I dont trust this car anymore :(
I have a 2013 nissan and when you have the a.c turned on it turns off. Anyone have any heating gauge problems??? Because my car says that it's overheating and then the gauge drops
Yes by taking it back to Nissan Dealership, They have a Lemon law out here in California that after 3 times it breaks down for the same issue you get back your $$ or they exchange another vehicle on the lot, i just got my $$ back and went across the street to Toyota.
So I just looked at a car tdy and it was a 2014 Nissan Sentra 104,000 miles .. my grandpas friend gets these deals on nice looking cars... he offering 4,500 but it’s salvaged ... bumper got hit but it was replaced .. mind u it will be my first car i will be using it for school and work ... does anyone have any updated opinions on the car ? Edward Fernandez Hello friend to be honest this car gave me problems for 1 whole year, I do not recommend this car CVT transmission problems they didn’t even know how to repair it at the Nissan dealer, but It’s up to you if you want problems all the time?
Nissan and those transmissions. Smh, I'm glad I didn't buy one as my first car. I'm sorry you have to deal with that though. I will say we consumers have the most important role towards Nissan as they'll get the hint when people stop buying their cars.
I have the same problem as you do. I had to replace my transmission once by the Nissan dealer; fortunately it was under warranty. I hope i don't had to replace it again or I'll just sell this car! Get me a car that have no CVT.
I currently have one and I’m about to get rid of it real soon. Today I experienced power steering issues. I only had it for a year and a couple months. Worst car I ever leased, I’m so done with Nissan
The manuals are rock-solid. The CVTs are an absolute mess. They've gotten a little better with the CVTs in recent years, but I still wouldn't even tempt it.
With my 2014 sentra it was one of the tail lights that had a little bit of water that was affecting the transmission through the electrical system. Once the tail light was changed it stopped acting up. That was eight months ago.
A hose near the wind shield is blocked has hole the air is escaping and not touching the throttle button the transmission would just not even start or work at all!
Matthew Padilla We have a 2015 Rogue and we are already fed up with it. Trading it in for a 2015/2016 Used RAV4 in the summer. The only downside I found was that the Rav4s ride was a little stiffer than the Rogue, but I have no problem making a compromise if it means getting a more reliable vehicle for my family. So far, are you enjoying the RAV4?
@@abrahamguerra5069 more people would change it if nissan hadn't advertised their fluid as "lifetime". Even honda and toyota, which are much more reputable brands, put in their logbooks to have the cvt fluid changed once in a while.
I have this same car also, when I first start it up I gets up to 3000ish rpm at literally 20mph. After going a bit over 40mph the rpms do go down to around 2200ish and the motor gets a lot quieter. Is this normal for a motor?
At least your car is within the standard warranty...a lot of these Altima CVTs like to crap out past the 60k mile, when they fall outside the warranty.
had the same problem, brought it to the the dealership and they reset a switch on the computer, stopped getting the high rpms and it rode smooth without the revving
Have they solved the issues or gave you different car? I have 2016 Sentra at 35k Hopefully won't get me crap bcuz I got it as a brand new..so far so good
Hey man my car is doing the same thing and I got 38000 miles. It also does it in reverse. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I'm Curious to know what happened
This is for anyone with a jumping RPM needle. Specifically, this happened on my 2014 Nissan Sentra in January of 2017, with only 70,000 miles on the vehicle if bought Nissan waist your money.
Maybe the throttle body needs to relearn its position? Did you disconnect the throttle body at all while the battery was connected? If so then that’s your problem. You car thinks it’s a new throttle body and needs to relearn the throttle position. Shops have tools where you car can relearn the position 😊
I also had the transmission fixed for my Sentra 😏. About last year. Or the year b4 that. I had previously taken it to the dealer for its usual oil change and complained about it not accelerating. I was told nothing was wrong, the next day it did not accelerate over 20mph when I was on the fwy! Scariest thing ever!
Mine has been doing the same thing did you're check engine light turn on? When stepping on gas pedal won't go more than 20 but after I turn it off and on it runs fine but goes back to 20 mph does that happen til yours?
9fishwm sorry to hear that I bought myself a 2010 no too old but seems like it runs like new! I haven't had one issue at all! But hope all works out for you.
23xterra, Statistically, you're lying about you're Toyota Camry. You're xterra is more likely to have radiator/transmission failure, timing chain failure and oil consumption, statistically speaking of course.
I have the same problem but worse. It idles fine in park but when I put it in gear and start to accelerate slightly, there's a likelihood the car will jerk and stall. Once it warms up, you can baby the acceleration when coming out of neutral and when I get above about 1,200 RPM, the car accelerates fine and no signs of a transmission issue. I have 59,000 miles. On top of that accelerating issue from a stop, I had battery connection problems. Both terminals, when fully tightened, never really made a good connection around the battery posts. You could actually just pull them off. So when the car stalled, sometime I'd have to get out and play with the terminals. The other day, the fusible link blew a fuse and I used a screwdriver bit to bridge the gap to just start the car. Recently, I brought it into Nissan and after changing both terminal connections and wires, I don't have to worry about getting out of the car if it stalls. Nissan's determination of the hesitation ONLY AT LOW RPM is I need a new transmission. It feels like a air/gas mixture. I cleaned the throttle body and changed my PCV valve, my MAF, my air filter, and it's still the same. All the while there were no codes. I think it's a bad throttle body and/or its sensor.
Derek Cruz I can give you some advice... take it back!! jk just make sure transmission CVT is up to date. the one that was in my car was not and they couldn't figure out why wasn't it updating.. over all just completely complicated.
robert gonzalez the computer in the transmission needs to be updated to the recent one. also I advise you to call Nissan make an appointment to have it checked out asap. don't let it pass up. I also got an email that there is recall on there vehicles right now.
Derek Cruz dude calm down nissans are good cars owned 370z and now have maxima just do the service on time it will run forever. Drove my maxima from nyc to Florida nissans make one of the best cvts like hondas.
The CVT transmission the all the NISSAN cars is crap. It is unreliable and about 30 - 40K the CVT transmission is already worn out. WFT. All CVT transmission fluid must be changed on a regular basis. Honda CVT can to a long time, especially when you change the fluid. NISSAN just have crappy CVTs
I had a 2015 sentra and was very disatisfied with it I had a really bad accident that totaled my car so maybe it just wasn't meant to be.. I went to toyota and bought a 2013 se camry fully loaded very good choice I made
DJ frank Yes a used toyota is light years more reliable than a brand new Nissan. But the 2009 toyota 4 banger may have excessive oil consumption. If so, toyota will fix for free, regardless of mileage.
Gareth Gomes Nissan repurchased the car back from me. so with that saying they returned all my payments and I just purchased a Camry best thing I could of done. hands down!

Hello everyone. I have a 2014 nissan sentra. I have been taking this car to the repair shop multiple times. Don’t understand what’s going on with it. The car would start and shut off immediately after starting, turns out it was the PCV valve. Had to replace struts and shocks, suspensions screwed, nobody can figure it out where the clunks are coming from, had to replace brakes 2 times, clean the throttle body, replace MAF sensor, camshaft and crankshaft sensors, catalytic converter, but the car still rattles, you cannot drive it while it not warmed up - the engine will run high RPM and the car will be slow to accelerate, barely moving. Had to replace the battery terminals and spark plugs 2 times, because the previous ones were not firing right and the car was shaking. The radio started acting up, engine rattles(probably lifters). This is just a few of the issues. The car has over 100000 miles. Its 9 years old. What happened to Nissan? They had such reliable cars back in a day, now their cars are poor quality. I want to get a brand new Toyota Rav4, but my family insists that I drive this one since it’s paid off. But what can I do? Last thing I need is the transmission going out or the engine starting to burn oil, then I would have to result into junking the car. I do preventative maintenance as much as I can being always on time. But, my finances have to flow elsewhere where it’s more important, like paying bills and rent. Don’t know what the heck is wrong with my car, I am trying my best. But I think Nissan and many other automakers like GM are cutting corners where they were not supposed to. Since I am not a CEO, I cannot really tell, what’s going on behind closed doors of every automaker, I can just assume, like most. But personally speaking, when my car goes, and it develops a serious problem, I am junking it, period. I am not selling a pile of junk to nobody. It’s better this way, than have someone put thousands into it again.
My suggestion: don't buy a sentra with automatic transmission (CVT) . I got a SENTRA 2017 with manual transmission, and l haven't had any issues with it.
Nissan is full of crap! How are they continuing to get away with this! Smh... I will never buy a Nissan with those crappy transmissions.. who wants to invest all that money into a vehicle that’s powered by a hamster in a wheel!?! Ridiculous
My 2015 Nissan Sentra transmission died on me yesterday with 86,000mi on it. I purchased the car January 2017 with 42,000mi on it. Through the months Just like your video I noticed my RPM was jumping all over the place. My car would stutter at stop signs & stop lights. On the highway my car would stall @ 40mph & would go no higher then 75mph. It wasn't until yesterday when my transmission blew that I started seeing RUclips videos of ppl having the same issue as me. SMMFH AAA did a diagnostic test which cost $56 & told me my transmission was done it would cost me $4200 for a new one because Nissan won't cover it because it's over $60,000mi & out of Warranty Called Nissan customer service & complained about my transmission on a two year old car they gave me a claim # and told me they wouldn't help me until Nissan did a diagnostic test which cost $132 to confirm the issue & from there they might be able to help. Ok! Let Nissan do the test BIG MISTAKE these money hungry fuckers called me a day later trying to get over $500 more from me saying they need to lift the pan in the transmission to look inside it to see if it's a transmission issue to replace it or if the transmission needed to be repaired. I told them hell no I not giving you over $500 to tell me what I already know I explained I've read complaints & seen video of ppl having the same problem with there cars & it's the CVT The Nissan rep tried to act like she didn't know what I was talking about like I was making this shit up. They said if I did need a new transmission it would cost $6000 Nissan can kiss my ass after this I'm done with them I will never purchase another Nissan ever in my life or a car with a CVT for that matter I'm still in disbelief this is happening to me 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

He help me get it out of the street and waited for the tow truck to come . . I think it's dangerous how the transmission goes out with no warning most of the time .
hitcreatormusic yeah my transmission was just replaced on my 2014 Nissan with less than 35k. Last Nissan I ever buy.
I bet it's not the car it's the driver because transmissions don't bust real fast unless you don't know how to take care of it.
SUPER ROOKIE no, I’m a slow to highway speed driver and I had my transmission go after 30k miles. Either it’s defective or Nissan needs to do a better job of training their techs to work on cvts
@@superrookie-1 Try doing a Google search on Nissan CVT problems (and lawsuits), Genius.
Nissan CVT transmissions are notoriously bad. I wish more people knew about it to protect themselves. Other brands have much more dependable CVTs.

Coded P0101, a service bulletin to clean throttle body, replace my PCV valve, and reprogram my computer. Idle issue continues similar to yours, I've noticed that it mostly occurs when the fan goes on but I'm done putting money into this car which I've maintained through the years. I've been driving mine for two years and no problems yet. I'm just glad I bought the extended warranty.
I had my car for 6 years no problems
Did you solve the problem? What is issue
sorry to see you had this problem I've owned a 2011, 13, 14, and now 2015 sr never had problems. I just bought a brand new super sentra last month.

My 2015 SV does that. I think it's just Nissan CVT transmission programming.
Dani LeClair well you put it in a mode made for quick response conditions so it will slow down while downshifting so you can make turns quicker. people do that at the race track where I'm at but don't do it on normal commutes because that can wear out the gears a bit faster.

#Wendy Dorival..All CVTs in any make or model cars are prone to heat buildup, especially
on hot days, using inclines, stop and go traffic etc. This makes the
computer go into failsafe mode. The guaranteed way to prevent heat soak
in a CVT is to use a Group 5 Full synthetic ester based CVT fluid,

Tnks man u saved my money i was negotiated to buy this car 55,000 mile on it with five grand i will skip It No thank you
Lion of judah your welcome happy I was able to help you out sir!
I think it's a bad throttle body and/or its sensor.

joseph garcia to be honest get rid of it..I know someone who has 120,000km and the cvt is acting up and warranty will only cover $3000 on it
Hello everyone.
I have driven a late model Sentra before. Much better off driving a Subaru though!!
SMMFH
AAA did a diagnostic test which cost $56 & told me my transmission was done it would cost me $4200 for a new one because Nissan won't cover it because it's over $60,000mi & out of Warranty
Called Nissan customer service & complained about my transmission on a two year old car they gave me a claim # and told me they wouldn't help me until Nissan did a diagnostic test which cost $132 to confirm the issue & from there they might be able to help.
Ok! Let Nissan do the test BIG MISTAKE these money hungry fuckers called me a day later trying to get over $500 more from me saying they need to lift the pan in the transmission to look inside it to see if it's a transmission issue to replace it or if the transmission needed to be repaired.
I told them hell no I not giving you over $500 to tell me what I already know I explained I've read complaints & seen video of ppl having the same problem with there cars & it's the CVT
The Nissan rep tried to act like she didn't know what I was talking about like I was making this shit up.
They said if I did need a new transmission it would cost $6000
Nissan can kiss my ass after this I'm done with them I will never purchase another Nissan ever in my life or a car with a CVT for that matter
I'm still in disbelief this is happening to me 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Toyota/Lexus cvt‘ s are bulletproof like the rest of the car. Nissan=JUNK!
nissan sucks big time, shops are full of altimas and all nissans with issues, i traded my 08 altima with 50k mile on it too much problems with it, i got a 09 mitsubishi lancer i put 120k miles on it and not problems, i just recently changed the timing belt and water pump since mitsubishi recommended every 120k, i will buy a mitsubishi, honda or toyota or mazda over a nissan anyday of the week..
Be careful. Renault just bought Mitsubishi. They will soon ruin Mitsubishi’s reliability just like they did with Nissan.
TruAgape1234 they probably will..good info though
Your car have ECU problem. just repair ECU. change coil plug and plug if needed.
