@@ronaldlugo9967very true. But this guy is even shorter than they are. 4 inches in height plus the added wingspan can give you a nice boost especially if they also have perfect mechanics and efficiency.
I love his counter rotation , staying closed into the drop and front foot landing. I believe that maximizes the stroke of the arm action through its acceleration path.
My boy Anderson De Leon is similar. His immigration papers ruined his draft status but he was 5'6 with cleats and threw an easy 97. First guy to k me 4 times in a game
What else needs to be done to prove that you don't got to be over 6ft and 200+lbs to pitch/play in the great game of baseball? Pedro Martinez, Tim Lincecum, Marcus Stroman, Billy Wagner just to name a few. Leave that height/size obsession BS in the NBA/NFL.
No joke. My boy Shaaaaane Nance was maximum 5'4", maybe 94mph. He looked like a little vertically challenged chap from The Shire, that was when he was standing on the mound. No offence to the vertically challenged.
That big a velo jump after TJ..... Hardly any time in the majors yet... Also doesn't pass the eye test of when he put on mass. Honestly hate to say this, but anyone else smell gear? Obviously his mechanics are polished AF, and we can look at that still, but is that *just* what he does to get to these velo numbers from such small levers.
@treadathletics PEDs... Look if I'm dumb and wrong.. he could just have gone insanely hard in the gym, underate before, and is a natural hyperresponder to weight training.
We don't believe there is any chance he's been taking PEDs. He emphasized his strength during TJ rehab and came back throwing a bit harder which is very common. He was a two-way guy as well, so eliminating the attention to hitting and a more focused approach to pitching also tends to boost velo. We don't work with Clayton, but between our conversation with him and the peripherals of his velo progression, nothing would point to PEDs in our eyes.
@@treadathletics I'm more than happy to be wrong, and he's obviously not Bonds where it just straight up cannot be denied lol. If he's clean he's a badass. He's a professional athlete. There's obviously going to be a lot of hyper-responders to workouts in that group. The cleaning his diet so he's actually in a significant calorie surplus might have finally let him pack on mass while not trying to be a two-way player. From some of that college tape you can tell he needed raw mass. Is that drastic a recovery from TJ normal too? I though you could only expect max like 3-5ish more mph. The near 10mph jump in velo post recovery seemed overly drastic too me as well
He didn't necessarily jump 10 mph. When he was drafted, he was upper 8s. He currently sits 94 and has flashed a few pitches at 96+. That jump is entirely reasonable. We also train Cole Ragans, who has had an insane jump at the big league level this season. It all depends on the pitcher.
This guy gives all of us short kings hope
Are you forgetting about Billy Wagner, Marcus Stroman, Pedro Martinez, Ron Guidry, Tim Lincecum and the list goes on!!!

Super-efficient mechanics. So much to admire here.

i saw him pitch against the pirates. he got rocked. still cool to see
Even in his yankee debut, he got rocked😢. I think he needs to rework his slider because rn its like 81mph and doesnt move a lot.
We played travel ball together. He was always a beast even as the shortest on the team.

I remember playing junior AA and we had a short guy, 5-3 throwing 400 foot strikes from the outfield… 😂
Pitchers over 6ft that can't throw cheese hate this guy

Ron Guidry!
Yankees now have the 2 shortest pitchers in both Andrews and Stroman lol
42mph for me
1:22 he played every sport growing up, but competitively concentrated on baseball and basketball... wow, impressive
nice
short people have better acceleration

no way my friend is 6’4” and only throws 85 he must suck (he’s 14)
sad follow thru. bend that front leg and finish in a fielding position
Our thoughts on landing in a fielding position:
