does seem that one of the biggest lessons I learned from watching this episode is to Shove a Node between Every connection, as it'll later on more easily allow for scalability Extractor>Node>Production>Node>Storage

There are some limits to how many node parcels you can have so as I play on and learn the various constraints, I'm continuing to adjust my strategy. 😺
I really do love this game! Simple concept, but I find it very challenging and engaging.
The latest update is just fantastic!

Nodes have infinite troughput!, If a node cannot move material it is because the destination is full!

I just finished watching the first video and came here just to comment...
You are NOT taking into account miner efficiency, for example green science requires copper cable
Copper Cable Production Parcels have 14 copper mines each
Each copper mine has 120% efficiency
    14 x 120% = 16.8 copper ore being produced in-house.
This means that you don't NEED to import extra copper from the extraction parcels, this is why the througput is at 0/s, you are NOT using it.
Instead of looking at the individual machines and trying to do the math yourself (which you are failing at) you should look at the rate on the left.
Green Science requires 12 copper cables and 4 Bricks, this is a 3-1 ratio as you yoursef has said.
IF you are NOT using a node, this means that you need 3 copper production parcels per brick parcel.
With the tech the amounts got doubled, but the ratios have NOT changed.
Coal power plants are the same problem, each consumes 0.5, BUT the miners DO NOT produce 1 each!
So the ratio is NOT 1 to 2, It is 5 to 12!
