for someone who (i presume) doesn't know a whole lot about reptile care, dan was completely correct about scenting a mouse for a picky snake! usually it's in the context of scenting a mouse using a toad or frog for reptiles such as plains hognose snakes, which can be picky (especially if wild-caught) and default to eating toads. that's also the reason why you shouldn't feed them toads in captivity - they can get addicted after a single one and refuse to eat anything else, and toads are harder to procure.
