This video is step-by-step instructions for replacing rear brake pads and rotors on Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300 W205 W206
While the vehicle is still on the ground and with the parking brake on, break free all rear-wheel lug nut bolts. Chock front wheels to prevent vehicle from rolling. Lift the wheel off the ground.
Before removing brake caliper and pads you need to move brakes in Fitting position. Press OK to move to Fitting Position
Remove bolt caps and undo 2 caliper bolts
Detach brake pad sensor and Detach caliper wires
Detach caliper and clean caliper with brake cleaner
Push Caliper piston in using caliper spreader tool
Install new brake pads
Reinstall caliper with 2 bolts. Finish tightening bolts to your vehicle torque spec. For my vehicle: 25 ft. lbs.
Attach caliper wires and attach brake pad sensor
When brake pads are replaced, don't forget to exit Fitting Position

Question part# for brake pads?
I figured out how to get to that menu but I couldn't get the video of it so using your clip off that if that's OK with you?
@@Ahmedpakido Please don't copy any videos - you may get copyright strike
@@NewRoad im not copying the whole video just the clip where you mentioned how to get to the settings if that's ok?
@@Ahmedpakido Please don't
I've got a 2019 C Class 220D. Independent garage said they needed a code to do rear pads which they didn't have. I had a Renault which was a doddle to do - wire from the battery and it wound the calipers back for you. Thanks for the video. Very well filmed and clear. 👏
Great video. For an amateur a couple things to consider. In your brake set. Where the sensor will click in. You will put those pads on separate sides. If you have a large C clamp. Use the old brake pad put it on top of the caliper and use the c clamp to compress the cylinder in. If you don’t have the tool in video.
If you don’t have a 7mm. Use a T45 works perfect. Just changed my rear brakes in less than 40minutes.
Hi!!! Thank you for doing this video. I was so overwhelmed i was about to pay $400 to $800 To change the rear brakes on my 2016 C300 but luckily I ran into your video and now o.k. know how to change them. THANK YOU YOUR VIDEO WAS VERY VERY HELPFUL! hope you make more.
I'm glad it was helpful. It is actually very easy to maintain C300 - I made many videos that can help you save thousands of dollars - take a look at this list: ruclips.net/p/PLLoEAO8f1zNwqR2KEyXCjGCkuOrxGGNfL
Lol I went today for service and they want around $700 for rear brakes
So u didn’t have to change the rotors on the rear ????
Thank you, I am positive you have prevented me from causing myself a lot of grief again TY
Glad to help
I got it thanks to this video
You are awesome! My brake pads will need to be replaced soon but I don't have the guts to do it by myself...
You can do it! It is not that hard
So apparently I am “special needs” the parking brake went on automatically LMAO. Thank you AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP YOUR ARE AWESOME!!
Excellent video. Thank you for this!
Have a 2019 C300 coming to me for work next week. This puts me at ease. 🍻
I have a lot of how-to videos for your vehicle, it's easy to maintain - ruclips.net/p/PLLoEAO8f1zNwqR2KEyXCjGCkuOrxGGNfL
Thank you! 🙌
Wish I had known about those videos 2 weeks ago. I had to learn all this the hard way. (Save for your brake info/video)
Sooo many helpful details without a single spoken word! Great video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks guys , excellent video . Learned on on side . Other side took a matter of minutes to do .
Glad it helped!
This video was excellent! Thank you so much. Very well filmed, and great detail. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Wow that is easy the most important thing is the fitting position, thank you very much you are a great help, that was a great job you did on the brakes as well as simple detailed instructions
Glad it helped
Extremely helpful thank you. I’m new to changing my brake pads, why did you widen the piston out rather than leaving it how it was? Curious if this step can be skipped
It's easier to install new pads, sine new are thicker
Perfect, followed step by step and replaced rear break pads successfully. I have model 2019. It was a bit complicated with putting breaks into "service mode". I had to put my car into N gear before "conditions for service of breaks" can be fulfilled. But besides this all the same. Great video, thank you very much. Managed within 1h both rear pads.
Glad it helped
Intresting, I have a 2018 model, so I'll have to remember this, is it possible to stay in N with the engine off?
@@weepz I have keyless start. While I was in service mode I could not switch ignition off. So think about battery. You can put in N and turn engine off. Just put anti-rollers under your wheels.
@@dmitryo6649 noted, will try that. Cheers 👍🏻 🍻
This really is a good video, props to you fella
Thanks 👍
Great video. Very helpful well documented and with very good information. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. Going to change brake pads in my uncles car
Hi mate nice job! When we change the break pads do we need to exit fitting position for every wheel or just once for all of them?
Set once and complete all wheels
I watch these videos just to listen to the noise of tools.
Nice Video! Very helpful! I will try to replace my brake pads of my C200.
Glad it helped!
Very well done and edited video. Not counting video recording, how long to do back axle?
Thank you. Under an hour is enough to complete the job
@@NewRoad That's not bad at all then. Thank you.
I have a 2016 MB c300 after the whole break pad change and everything is done do I need to bleed the break or just out the wheel back in and take it off fitting mode and that’s it
You don't need to bleed brakes if you just followed this video. Take it off fitting mode and press brake pedal few times until it's firm - and you good to go. You need to bleed brakes if you change brake caliper or it is time to flush brake fluid as per maintenance: ruclips.net/video/vHhqcs2SJKQ/видео.html
Thanks for this video.
You're welcome
Beautiful tipc
Why didn’t you clean and lube the slide pins while you had this apart?
Mine was clean and in good condition - but it is a Good idea!
May I know what happens if you changed your pads without going to the fitting position? What will happen ? Great vid btw thanks
You won't be able to pull out rear pads
Fantastic video very informative and to the correct instruction. ❤
Thank you
Very good and clean service!
Thanks
GOOD VIDEO BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED ABOUT TORQUING THE WHEEL STUDS UP.
Thanks, agree - any additional info never hurts
Thanks for yr demonstration.
Hiya mate do you need to pump the pedal to bring the pistons out before exiting the mode or does exiting that mode use the electric hand brake motor to wind the pistons back?
Exit the mode and pump the brakes to test it and make sure all good
Are front and rear rotors the same on a 2016 C300 AWD non AMG? MBUSA only shows one part number. Thanks.
I'm not sure to be honest. You can also check fcpeuro.com and rockauto.com to see more choices
Do u have to change the rotors if there not bad when changing the breaks
@@cadillacnick8533 You don't need to change rotors if they are ok
Great video, clear, detailed👏thanks for the help.
Glad it helped
I have an E-class W213 220D, i take it that applies to mine as well? Also, spoke to an indie and he said that the caliper would need calibrating as its electronic, any truth to this?
I want to give this a go myself.
Go for it. When brake pads move back to fitting position - it calibrates itself. I changed both, front and rear pads, and no problem or messages
Is it advisable to pump out that pistons with the brake pedal before de activating fitting mode
I have a 2020 W205, where do I find out the torque specification for wheels or calliper bolts? Great vid!!
I would assume since it is the same (W205) it should be the same, but double check with Mercedes dealer
@@NewRoad thanks, is there a specific website you used for the torque specifications?
Very useful
Glad to know that video helps
Merci merci boukou anpikable
Great video eazy shown and helped me proper thanks mate keep up the good work
Glad it helped
Will this work for a 2018 AMG C43 Coupe?
Yeap, it should - you might even have the same brakes as in video, since it is AMG package
Where do you get pads? I was going to get a new set of pads for front and rear, and rotors for the front as well. Any recommendations?
Most of my parts I buy from rockauto.com, and usually go with BOSCH or ACDELCO
Thank you for this.
Glad it helped
Amazing and informative video
Glad you liked it
Thanks, my friend, for the video help a lot . 🙂👍
Glad it was helpful!
So on a Mercedes the fitting position when you're done you exit it's basically pumping the brake fluid for you instead of you doing yourself correct?
Like when you change your brakes on a Honda afterwards you close the brake fluid cap and you pump the brakes with your foot with the Mercedes it does it on its own when you exit position correct
It's always good idea to pump it
Thanks a lot. Very helpful and clear directions. Can you please give more information about Brake Lubricant. Is it sort of ceramic paste (anti-squeal brake paste) or is it lube (longlasting fett). Rest is clear for me. Thanks a lot again! I would try on my MB C300 S205 very soon. Systems looks the same. Braking pads are already delivered to me. Just have to find time.
Yea, should be the same and easy to do. I use this one amzn.to/3kb82WE
after you have put the car in the 'fitting position' do you have to leave the car on?
no, you can shut down
Thank you 👍
Which year benz is this
This is 2017, which has AMG & Night package
Thank you
Excelente documento gráfico.
I have been a mechanic for over 45 years and have done so many types of brakes over the years its not funny. I am not criticizing and I appreciate anyone who puts up how to videos, I'm just asking. Why didn't you service or replace the rotors? I know the pads will seat, but they will also initially wear very rapidly and will cause some break squeaks down the road. Plus, and most annoyingly will without a doubt cause some brake shuttering when braking hard. Just a thought. Thanks for the video.
Appreciate your feedback. Rotors were less than 3 years old with low mileage, and looked good to me. It's easy to replace them anyway if required. So far, mine C300 drives like new (knocking on wood)
I just bought some new break pads for the rear and they look good so I’m try putting on my break today
Where was you able to find your torque specs? All I can seem to find online is Wheel nut torque specs. :(
Great video thank you. . What size lug nut key did you use for the wheels?
Socket 17mm
The car should stay with ignition on all the time while performing the procedure... or we can switch off the ignition ?
I left it on
Thanks for this video this made a 2 hour job to less than 30 minutes 🙏🏽👌🏽✊🏾✊🏾💯
Glad it helped
9:10 I Love that wheel 😁
great video, thanks for posting
Glad it was helpful
Good job bro
Thanks
Apparently I'm notification squad? Nice video btw!
Thank you for watching!
What year and make is this particular car your working on?
This one is 2017 C300
Is it the same process for front brakes?
Rear brakes. Stated in the title as well.
Similar, I haven't done mine front yet
It a little easier since there’s no need to put vehicle into “fitting position” due to parking brakes only being in the rear
What size is torch to take off from brakes
If it's not in a video, I will have to check and post in description. Sorry for that
Very simple tanks
Great video.
Thanks!
AWESOME VIDEO
Thanks!
Do you need two sensors for rear brakes or only on one side ?
One on one side
After replacing the brakes I pressed ok but before I did the other side do I have to start the process over?
Yes, you need to move to fitting position
exactly what i was looking for, glad i can learn from your mistake instead of making it. Thanks
Do you need to bleed the brakes ? Or would it be good after all that ?
If you are replacing just pads - you don't need to bleed brakes. Here is full maintenance schedule for Mercedes which indicates when to bleed brakes.
do i have to set it to fitting position twice for both sides or once for both side?
You set once as in video and exit when done all brakes
So basically leave on fitting position before you press ok you do both sides first
Doesn't show up any screen after holding ok button and call button in 2016 mercedes c300
follow exactly as in video, phone button first and within second ok
I'm having an issue with my parking brake not disengaging 😞😞 please help
Try to follow exact steps as in the video, I never had this problem
Does it void the warranty if you change the pads and rotors yourself?
Yes. If you are a licensed mechanic then no.
No: www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance#do
What’s the point of using the spreader? Sorry just trynna learn how to do this hahaha
Old pads are thinner than new pads - so you need to create space for new pads
Thanks bro...
Welcome
GOOD VIDEO MATE.....WHATS THE WHEEL LUG TORQUE YOU USED THERE?
If you have operator's manual the spec should be in Wheels and Tires section. Mine is 2017 C300 and it says - 96 lb-ft (130Nm)
Is their a reason when I click the ok and call button the setting doesn't appear
try few times, sometime timing is off
👍
What do you do if the parking brake is flashing and wont work after? I followed everything step by step.
Did you exit fitting position after you complete everything?
@@NewRoad yes, but it said unable to perform task.
@graytat did you ever fix the problem?
Is the 2017 C300 done the same way?
The vehicle in video is actually 2017 C300 🙂.

Do I have to move brake to fitting position on a 2013 C300 4matic
Yours is W204, right? No since it doesn't have electronic parking brakes
@@NewRoad yea it’s a w-204
Would the same setup go for a 2019 glc300? And is the caliper piston spreader too required?
You should be able to change on your glc as well by just following this video, and yes - it is good idea to get spreader, it makes the job much easier and it is not expensive: amzn.to/2YBGYWb
So I don't need a scanner/obd reader?
You don't need odb reader to replace your brake pads
@@NewRoad thanks!!!
@@NewRoad I'm not able too push back the piston?
Did you follow video and moved brakes to fitting position?
@@NewRoad I am not able to get that service menu on my 2015 c300 by pressing both the phone and ok button at the same time for 10 seconds. Is there an alternate way or should I just use the brake caliper tool that both depresses and turns the caliper to depress it?
Toppppp 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What year is this for
W205 - 2014 and 2021, and the same for W205 from 2021
@@NewRoad is it necessary to bleed the brakes after all this or is it fine ?
@@NewRoad I have a 2016 MB c300 after the whole break pad change and everything is done do I need to bleed the break or just out the wheel back in and take it off fitting mode and that’s it
@@NewRoad if you can please answer 🙏🙏🙏🙏
What is the purpose of the metal clips on the brake pad, next to the wear sensors? Is it to apply pressure to the pads onto the calipers to prevent rattling? Is it only used on the inside pad?
5:30
Why is there a sensor in the brake pads? What happens when you hit that on the menu?
I was looking to do this for a friend but I've never seen this crazy shit
It is wear sensor - tells you when to replace your pads. Nothing special - just follow the steps in video.
very similar to bmw e90 🤔
$1K at a dealer
WOW, that's a lot of money!
@Newroad
Is this one will work on c43 amg 2018?
Yes, same process. Easy to do, just make sure you have proper tools before you start
@@NewRoad Do you need to leave the ignition on while doing the brake pads?
@@NewRoad It’s not working on my c43 2018.
