Also, you were the first booktuber I’ve ever followed and you remain my favourite. I was just starting high school (I’m almost done university now) and my love for books grew because of you so thank you for everything
Again, but Better was definetly a standalone I read at the right time in my life, I start uni in a few weeks and ABB has made me feel ready and so excited. I feel like I really get Shane and how she is feeling, I can not wait for your next book! Thanks for writing such a fantastic novel Christine💛
my top standalones are(I haven't read very many yet) 1: Unbroken 2: Pride & Prejudice 3: Again But Better 4: Talking As Fast As I Can 5: Nicholas Nickleby
Jandy Nelson is for sure one of my favorite authors if not my favorite author. The way she writes and the pictures and stories she paints... they’re so amazing and colorful and beautiful even if they can be sad. I’ll Give You the Sun and The Sky Is Everywhere are wonderful novels. I NEED HER TO WRITE ANOTHER BOOK
After all these years, you're still my favorite Booktuber ever, the way you're so passionate about books is so relatable and I love it and I love you! 🥰
“Again, but Better” was the book for me. I read that book a week before I left to go on a trip to Europe for 2.5 weeks. I visited a lot of places that were mentioned in the book which gave me so much joy to be able to relate. I recently broke up with my long time boyfriend, but I remember even comparing my love life to how well you’d written Pilot and Shane. I’m also about to head to college for my freshman year. Thank you for creating something so relatable and personal.
Such a great list! I read I'll Give You the Sun for the first time last year. I knew I wanted to read it one day, so when I found it at a thrift shop for like a dollar I knew I had to get it. I read it last August and I still think about it to this day.
When you were talking about how Fangirl was the first book you fully related to my mind jumped straight to ABB and how much Shane reminds me of myself 😂😍. And btw I loveee your book, it was the first YA contemporary I'd ever read and it filled me with so much bubbly joy! I can't wait to read it again 😊😊💕
I guessed Anna and the French Kiss, What if it’s us, I’ll give you the sun, A very large expanse of sea, They both die at the end, And Fangirl correctly. 6/10. I feel so accomplished
Girl, I miss your videos. I use to read a bunch of books, but I got accepted into medical school two years ago and haven’t touched a book since. I will read some of these books, I promise!
Again But Better came out at the perfect time because I just finished my first year of college but I lived at home and commuted and it felt really lonely while all my friends were gone having a great time. So I’m transferring to a new school for this fall and it’s in a state I’ve never been to. I feel like I’m trying to do college again but better. I’m really excited. There’s so much about friendship and travel too that’s inspiring and I love it. Thanks Christine, your book was really happy and encouraging.
lol It's not a sequel, it's a retelling from the guy's point of view. honestly, do not recommend. it was super frustrating cuz the whole time i was reading it i thought it was a sequel but they both end ON THE SAME MOMENT.
I read Anna and the French Kiss and Fangirl because I watched you’re video recs for contemporary noobs , and ever since then I always look for books you recommend ♥️ Fangirl and Just One Day definitely left such an impression in my life they’ll always be in my top 3
Not that it matters but my favorite standalones are: 13. Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella 12. How to Make Friends with the Dark by Kathleen Glasgow 11. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell 10. Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami 9. The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood 8. Turtles All the Way Down by John Green 7. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green 6. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne 5. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren 4. Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky 3. Sophie's World by Jostein Gaardner 2. November 9 by Colleen Hoover 1. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell Got a bookstagram @_mirasol__ for more book recommendations. Have a good day, everyone.
I’ve owned “They both die at the end” for about a month and a half, but I wasn’t motivated to read it. After watching this video, I got excited to read it. So, I just read the first 179 pages in three hours while listening to the audiobook, and I’ve already cried thrice. I’m scared but definitely excited. Thank you so much for this! It’s also convinced me to read “I’ll give you the sun,” which I’ve owned for multiple months.
You have no idea how amazing was the timing of this video. I just finished 2 different trilogies, both very dark and hard to read, and didn't want to start another series. I'm dying to read a stand alone and was just looking for some. Thank you so much. Lots of love from Brazil, byee ♥
@@DashawnLoves The Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb, and The Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence ... I read them within a week, I think I shouldn't have done that lol.
@@DashawnLoves Not scary type of dark, but both are very violent and the heroes suffer A LOT to a point that The Farseer actually gets depressing. The Broken Empire is basically about a sociopath looking for vengeance. I loved both series, but as I said I read them to quickly one after the other without a break... I don't recommend that hahaha
What should I read next? I have three books staring at me and they are: The Shadowy Horses (Kearsley) The Chemist (Meyer) or Our House (Candlish) 📚📚📚 👸🏼💋💖🔥📚📚📚📚
I just stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish Again, but Better (I started it today) and I have a lot of emotions, but I loved it!! Thank you so much for writing this book, I really needed it. It reminded me of how much I love and want to travel. Also, 🥧🥧😍
That's my favorite stand alone too! When I finished Just One Day, I just like closed the book and cried, because I knew no other reading experience could top that one.

If you’re in the UK, read ‘I’ll give you the sun’ in Cornwall, it works perfectly, I love’d it, I tend to tie certain places to certain books, like Dante and Aristotle ... in NYC
I'm in an awful reading slump and I just remembered how unique the experience was when I read Verity and watched your review. Time to pick up a book now.
In no particular order, my favorite stand-alones are Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling, 11/22/63 by Stephen King, A List of Cages by Robin Roe, We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson, They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, and in honorable mention I'd say More Happy Than Not :)
OMG I LOVE Landline and Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell!! And I completely agree with your assessments about each! I love them both more every time I read them. I try to read them each at least once a year or every other year. I just love Rainbow Rowell's writing in general though too. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Just One Day too! It's amazing. You have fantastic book taste :). I loved your book too! Easily one of my top 10 favorites in YA!
I got none right! Yay! But one that I read that turned into my favorite book of ALL TIME, is Call me by your Name. I know there is a second one coming, but the original is so beautiful and an awe inspiring work of words and knowledge and love it blows me away every time I read it. P.s. I’ve read it six times now, not including the audiobook. That’s even worse at a whopping 13 listens. 💙
My favorite standalone of all time is Life of Pi, because I was overcome by this refreshing feeling of peace when I was reading it and when I finished it. Oh my god, I LOVE What If It’s Us so much! It HAS to become a movie, it JUST HAS TO! I’ll be SO MAD if it doesn’t.
Omg I’ll give you the sun! I read that a while ago and nobody else liked it/ doesn’t read too much! I completely agree with you it’s such a good book and it doesn’t get as much credit as it shouldddd 😍
My favorite standalones are: Fangirl Just One Day Anna and the French Kiss The Book Thief Heartless Eleanor and Park If I Stay The Fault in Our Stars And btw after watching your videos for like 7 years now, I guessed almost every book on your list 🤗🤪❤️
My favourite standalone is "Midnight at the Electric", which is a book I've never seen on Booktube (well I don't think I have). It really moved me and it's full of mystery and love and hope I loved it so much. I wish more people had read it.
I only got two right because I knew you were gonna put Colleen Hoover on the list. The way you talk about those books makes me really want to read it but that goes for every single one of these books because you are so passionate about it! I just love your energy! Also I agree with your number 5 pick. They Both Die At The End is one of my all time favorite standalones. What If It’s Us didn’t do it for me though unfortunately :( But I would really want to give most of these a try. Although I’m surprised you did not pick The Book Thief for this list
Uau, I was betting your first favorite stand alone would be 'turtles all the way down' or 'Evelyn hugo' for some reason haha but it is actually my favorite book too! 'just one day' is so amazing, it makes me think a lot about who Allison was before and who she became and how I relate to that. Great choice!
I got 3 books right yaaay! :) Some of my favorite standalones are Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, Since you've been gone, Anna and the French Kiss and oh - AGAIN BUT BETTER! ♥
WOOO! I NEED TO REREAD SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE BECAUSE IT'S NOT ON THIS LIST CUZ I CAN'T REMEMBER IT ENOUGH BUT I KNOW I REALLY LIKED IT. and also ahh! yay
I actually had “I’ll give you the sun” on my bookshelf for years and I finally read it back in January and I was so glad I read it and kinda mad that it took me this long to get to it.
A stand alone i would highly reccomend is Echo After Echo by Amy Rose Cappetta. Its a beautiful story - part murder mystery, part theater story, part girl/girl romance. I read it earlier this year, and I didn't realize until I was done how much I needed the story. Her writing style is amazing, and the story just kind of... changed my perspective. In a lot of ways. Christine, if you ever see this comment, I really, really think you should read it. And if you do, post on instagram or yt about it so that I know if it meant as much to you as it did to me.
It's hard to pick and favorite standalone but i'd say my favorite is Letting Go of Gravity by Meg Leder. The lead character struggles with anxiety and it's so raw and real how accurate it is and it's so special to me
I'm reading all the books you mentioned that I haven't read yet as soon as possible! VERITY and All Your Perfects is the real deal. The emotional blows were too real for AYP, it was hurting me since it was a struggle I'm closely familiar with. Verity though, was a mind blowing read. A first for COHO and she did not dissapoint. :)
Just One Day’s ending gave me the biggest book hangover I was like: no wait, no, MORE!! I read it because you recommended it I think in your contemporary 101 video thank u ♥️
ok lmao what happened to the art of seduction video series on your other channel from like 4 years ago???? lmao i’m still waiting for the next episode HAHAHAH
The way you were talking about Cath is the exact same way that Lara Jean felt to me. I was reading her and I literally turned to my sister, who was sitting in the couch next to me (I was on the floor laying down) and said, “Dude, she is literally me,” and started listing the ways that we were the same
I guess a Series of companion novells or something are still standalone, but for some reason I never consider them as standalones which is why I was quite confused seeing anna and the french kiss and the other one here... but I guess it still counts lol
I SWEAR I wrote I'll Give You The Sun on my prediction list but then when you said it I looked down and it WASN'T THERE. What? I didn't write it? What was I thinking? I got all my predictions wrong- EXCEPT FANGIRL, I GOT FANGIRL. I knew Christina Lauren and Colleen Hoover were going to be on it but I haven't read all their books so I couldn't remember which ones you liked the best!! I also completely forgot to put Adam Silvera on my list so that failed lol
“Lock in your bets”

But i did get 3 right at the end
Lol me too
The last time I was this early Cassandra Clare was releasing City of Bones

I was reading her and I literally turned to my sister, who was sitting in the couch next to me (I was on the floor laying down) and said, “Dude, she is literally me,” and started listing the ways that we were the same
Hope you have a great day christine!💜💜 And keep up with the good vids!
THANK YOU
I love salt to the sea
OH MY GOD I FORGOT ABOUT SALT TO THE SEA
I guess a Series of companion novells or something are still standalone, but for some reason I never consider them as standalones which is why I was quite confused seeing anna and the french kiss and the other one here... but I guess it still counts lol
AH! I KNEW Just One Day would be your #1 it's mine too, because of you!! Love it.
I am new here! I want to ask you something? Are you polish? (You have Poland in name of your yt channel)
Have you ever read Kiss an angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips? It’s one of my favorite books ever, so romantic and moving, an oldie but soooo goodie
Fangirl is just such a nice feel good book and although it's been years since I've first read it, I feel giddy at the thought of Levi and Cath
If you feel like doing another top 10, may I suggest a top 10 childhood books/series?
Predictions by authors: Dan Brown, John Green, Rainbow Rowell
I SWEAR I wrote I'll Give You The Sun on my prediction list but then when you said it I looked down and it WASN'T THERE. What? I didn't write it? What was I thinking?
I got all my predictions wrong- EXCEPT FANGIRL, I GOT FANGIRL. I knew Christina Lauren and Colleen Hoover were going to be on it but I haven't read all their books so I couldn't remember which ones you liked the best!! I also completely forgot to put Adam Silvera on my list so that failed lol
LOLOL GETTING ONE IS STILL A WIN *PARTICIPATION AWARD*
