Spoiler Warning: I found it super bad ass when Rowan took his test at the Winter Conclave and shot his mother dead before they even finished giving him the instructions, put the gun down and just peaced the f out just like that.
As a musician I appreciated the joke of there being a difference between A flat and G sharp. The book was fantastic and I appreciate little thing like that. (For non musicians A flat and G sharp are the same note)
RUclips fan girl yes yes yes yes yes omg yes this is my first official otp 😂 I’ve never really been a fan of those but omg yes. Well a maybe otp if Rowan doesn’t like go crazy
*spoilers** Also.. Is nobody gonna talk about the fact that Rowan freaking shot his mother before they finished telling the instructions!!?!?! Goddard broke Rowan 😭😭😭
School Sucks I don’t actually think it was Goddard influenced that- Rowan never had a good relationship with her & he knew it was a quick and almost painless death that was going to be reversed anyway
@@GeorginasJourney he was always seen as the lettuce in his family. All the interaction we get between him and his mother is her saying "if that's what you think is best" to lItErAlLy evErYtHiNg
Yes I loved this one!!! OMG but his other series Unwind- it has even more thought provoking and wild just insane moments and honestly makes me feel like this book made me did except times 5. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT SERIES SINCE YOU JUST FINISHED THIS- its such a crazy concept too
Unwind is my favourite series of all time and it doesn't get nearly enough credit!!! It's just unbeatable and written magnifying and the characters and the world and I'm crazed just thinking about it xx
YES! I read Scythe when it came out and I’m a huge fan of Neal Shusterman, so I’m so happy Booktubers are jumping on the train! If you’re looking for other reads by him, my personal favorite is the Skinjacker trilogy.
I’m so glad you have a booktalk on Scythe now. I love the books so much. I loved the ending so much. The message is amazing and I loved the characters and twists in the book. I read it over the summer and I loved the story!
Cassie Hall Have you read his other work? He caught me with Skinjacker all those years ago, and then again with Unwind. He's a great writer, but as of late I've dropped the ball on reading. I'm definitely gonna try - even if I have to get an *shudders* audiobook.
I dont care what topic someone is talking about, but when someone is this passionate and excited about something it brings me ridiculous joy and smiles! Just found you from Good Reads, love the videos!
this was the most enjoyable booktalk of yours i’ve ever read! so much energy, even though i finished the book a day before i watched this, i got all hyped up about it with you now :”)
I'm so excited you finally got to this book!!! I've been head over heels for Scythe since November 2016 and the fact that almost no one talks about it has been so heartbreaking! I have too many feels about this book so I'm going to do my own talk now that I'm not as camera shy as I was back when I first read it. I can't WAIT to get to the next book and I hope you get to it soon too!
I finally read this book after you said it was your favorite of 2018! Bought it yesterday and finished about 2 hours ago. Oh my god, it is so genius. The storyline and the whole concept of morality... it’s so good. I’m so excited to read the next book in the series!
I work in a library and I kept passing Scythe on the shelf. I loved the cover art. One day I decided to read it, Oh my, best use of judging a book by its cover ever!
Honestly our reactions are identical - I subbed Especially our lettuce boi holy shit One thing that still bugs me though . . . *I S I T G - S H A R P O R A - F L A T*
Omg I just realized how lucky I am! So glad I started reading the first book in Nov 2019, when the whole trilogy is out. Can’t imagine the wait!! Perfect timing
I can't wait to read these books. I've been meaning to read these for a while and I'm glad to know that you liked it. I'm going to read this book later and come back to this booktalk. I can't wait to watch it.
I haven't finished Scythe yet either but I am SHOOK. And I'm already getting Thunderhead from the library because I know I'm gonna need it. THANK YOU for recommending this, Christine. Once again, SHOOOOOOK UPDATE at 2 am: I just finished it and HOLY FRICK WHAT THE CRAP JUST HAPPENED
Yeah, there's still one more book left in the series. The second book is so good and the world just expends even more! pick up 'Thunderhead' as soon as you can and start reading!
I felt exactly the same way--this book is AMAZING! It gives you so much to think about and I loved Rowan, Citra, Faraday and Marie. So glad you reviewed this one. THUNDERHEAD has more twists and surprises as well and can't wait for the third book in this series. SCYTHE though is one of my all-time favorites! Too bad you started off the year with this one, because now everything else will seem dull to you after this. It's kind of like starting off with the best roller coaster in the park, makes all the other rides seem blah. This is one I had to do a video for too, it is so good!
I read this book and came onto youtube just looking for any videos related to it. It was amazing. I believe a movie is in production (it needs to stay true to the book to live up to it and not be a let down) and I'm pretty sure sequal(s?) were hinted at within the book, although that may just be my wishful thinking. I'm only 3 mins in and I can tell I'm gonna love this video. This is the first video from your channel I've ever seen. I'm just looking for content on it, 'cause I WANT MORE!!!!
After watching your video for a few seconds i immediately read the book that i have been meaning to get into for a while now. And at the same day i finished it and OMG it blew my mind, and i rewatch your video till the end.. The book deserves the praise, his other books are thought provoking as well. Love his stories, just full of intrigue and epicness.
I’m soooo happy you finally read Scythe and reviewed it! I was really disappointed when I read the book and there wasn’t a review for it on your channel... But now you made me very happy☺️
I need to get this book! You and Natasha have been giving it such great reviews. It makes me super excited to read it!! At the moment SJM's books are my favorites and I'm eager to read something new. This premise sounds intriguing :D
I am so freaking happy that you've FINALLY picked up one of Neal Shusterman's books. I've been BEGGING you to read Unwind, although I can understand how the concept of that book would be a little off-putting. It was for me at first as well; My friend had recommended it, but it took me forever to actually read it because it kinda freaked me out. Shusterman is one of the most amazing writer's, possibly my favorite. Author's like Maas, Bracken, Ee, Stiefvater, etc. are all wonderful for pleasure reading, Shusterman makes you think. His books are the perfect combination of pleasure reading and thought-provoking reading. When I read Scythe, my world was turned upside-down. Jesus I wish I could meet you in person so we could talk about this book together. Every time my sister and I watch your videos, she just laughs at how alike we are when we've finished reading a book that's blown our freaking minds. I HOPE YOU'LL CONTINUE TO READ MORE OF SHUSTERMAN'S BOOKS IN THE FUTURE!!!!
So I’m not an audible affiliate but I feel like it’s my obligation to tell you that Scythe is on sale right now for $3.85!!! I agree it’s super-dope and I’m leaving as i haven’t finished it yet 😃
I LOVE YOUR REACTION! I WAS READING THUNDERHEAD IN TESCO AND STARTED CRYING AND STAGE WHISPER SCREAMING AND THEN LITERALLY BLABBING EVERYTHING TO MY DAD AS WE WALKED OUT! damn. shusterman did good.
I finished this book a few months back, but I honestly can't stop thinking about it! It's been such a long time since I've read a book that stuck with me like that. I'm not really someone who cries and get super emotion over fiction, but I definitely teared up over this book and it's sequel. It really made me so happy seeing someone get as excited over this book as I did.
FINALLY IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONGGGGGG!!! IVE READ THIS BOOK LIKE SIX MONTHS AGO (I think) AND AGTER I FINISHED IT I WAS SOSOSO DEPRESSED TO FIND NO ONE AT ALL WHO HAS MADE A VIDEO ON YHIS BOOK. like i was so sad when I realized that there was no one TO SHARE MY EMOTIONS WITH BUT YAYAYAYA ITS HEREEEE
I just finished reading this book today and oh man- phenomenal. This book has dragged me out of my book slump. I love the world because it’s simultaneously complex yet simple to understand. The concept is plausible which makes it so much more fun to read! I love the characters and their multiple facets and I cannot wait to get into Thunderhead! I read it on Libby (overdrive) but I’m definitely going fo buy both in hardback! I think one of the many reasons I loved this book so much is because I am the Queen of predictability- I usually have an 87% success rate. But with this book, I barely saw anything coming. Can’t wait to read Thunderhead
I haven't read this one yet (I will, don't worry, I'm one of the OG Neal Shusterman fans), but just from your reaction I highly recommend reading his other series, Unwind
I loved all the philosophical questions this book brought up! and I was freaking out at the end too! A book series hasn't gotten me this excited in a WHILE. :D
So I have a HUGE TBR list and I figured I would watch this because I wouldn’t get around to adding or buying this book to my list.... I was so into your review I immediately ordered this book! Damn you Christine! I love your passion and joy, you sucked me into this story!!!! 💜
Oh man I read this last year and I’m already almost done with the second one (which just came out)! I love it SO SO MUCH!!! Neal Shusterman is such a good author!! I’m so happy that the second book is more about the Thunderhead because it’s sooo interesting!
I literally bought Scythe the day after this was posted because of what you said in the nonspoilers, I just finished it!!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!! THANK YOU
I CANNOT LIKE THIS VIDEO ENOUGH TIMES! You understand the true fangirl emotion behind this book. I agree it is sooo underrated. It NEEDS to be talked about more. And Thunderhead as well.
OMG , Scythe was one of the most amazing books I've read this year!!!!!! It kept me intrigued till the very end , with twist and turns and .... WOW , I 100% agree with you Christine
i am so incredibly late to this video. i read this book as a required reading assignment for my english class. i was supposed to only read to chapter 30 when i had finished, but i finished the book in a week or so. this book is so fuckin amazing. the plot, the character development, the ROMANCE, the TENSION, the rest of it, and of course, the ending. my god. this has become my official favorite book and the writing was absolutely amazing. i loved how there was so much plot and expression and morals and tone, but the romance is slipped in (if you cant tell i love the romance genre.) the character buildup is absolutely amazing and for all the other people who love to read - this is such an amazing book to read. it is so so so good. i was so hooked i couldnt stop. im going and getting the second, third, and fourth book tomorrow and hope to finish and be as satisfied with those as i was with scythe arc 1. this is such an amazing book and i cant repeat it enough. (ps - the "get lost" at the end, and then rowan SEEING faraday AGAIN??? oh my GOD. i DIED and SCREAMEd and CRIED and the ' i love you ' exchanged was just such an amazing way to wrap it up - especially with the ring !!!!!)
I just read this book for my school's 10 book challenge and I loved it so glad you are doing a book talk about it can't wait to read the next book Thunderhead.
This being your all-time favorite trilogy, I picked it up. I got to the part where Faraday "died" and they got new mentors and I couldn't read anymore. It was moving too slow and I seriously hated Goddard. Then I made myself pick it up again a couple months later and finish it. I'm so glad I did, it definitely made up for it in the second half! Can't wait to read the next two.
Omg I just finished my book and I loved it so much!!!!! And I started to find a video about the thunderhead and now I am here. This video literally explains what I want to say!!!! You know what I even cried when Scythe Volta gleaned himself because honestly he was my favorite and I think I repeated thousand times when Rowan said I love you
Yay!!!! So happy you love Scythe!!! It didn’t get hype when it came out I was so sad, but now since the second book is coming out it’s getting hype now :’)
Yeeees!!!! I'm so glad you finally read these!!!! Several of us have been telling you, lady!!! It's f*cking amazing! I see you reviewed Thunderhead as well, its better! Oh my GAWD, Shusterman is brilliant!!!
* goes to book depository and adds to cart, checks out immediately * I always trust you for amazing book recommendations Christine!! So excited to read this after watching the first couple mins of this video 🙌🏻
I loved Scythe so much!!! I read it last year, so I’ll probably have to reread it before moving on to the next one... that book was so interesting though! I think the author should write a prequel that analyzes the way society was built. I would totally read it, there is so much more to the Scythedom.
This book really suprised me because I started reading it and and was like okay heres another YA scifi book but all of the little nuances that built the world were amazing...and the plot twists omg. Reading this book was like watching a movie I cant even describe it.
You got me into this series and I just finished The Toll and I just had to come back to this video, you ruined my life I am obsessed with this series 😭😭
I just finished this book. I'd been avoiding it for years and now I'm saying to myself, 'Why the heck did I DO THAT TO MYSELF?!' I'm just as hyped as you are rn! I have to wait two days for book 2&3 to arrive!!!! I'm dying!!!!!! I need to knowucfnvnfkdknvn.
My teacher started a dystopian literature class and she has us read it! It was really cool to see people who don’t like reading really enjoy this book!! I don’t know why I waited so long, this book was SO GOOD. I’m in love.
Next you should read Unwind also by Neal Shusterman. Possibly one of my favorite series. Always keeps you thinking and just has great characters/development.
I love the book so much. But can someone please tell me what really is the main goal in the book? Like, because the story didn’t have a clear direction: A well-established goal and how the characters achieve that goal. I can hardly identify the primary problem that the characters are trying to solve in the story. Poor Rowan, though. I think he was under-compensated for his action-I was hoping for a twist that he could at least have been ordained too because what he did was such a heroic thing. 😊
Wait until you read Thunderhead! Neal is GENIUS! The sequel is amazing since it's from the AI's perspective. His conclusion of Thunderhead blows your mind too! How can I wait for Book Three?! Neal even does some links to his Unwind series - AHHHHHH! Your reactions and insights are so perfect as usual.
I completely agree with you Christine! Scythe is the first book that I've read in a long time that has gotten me super excited! It was such a fun and fantastic read! *SPOILER QUESTION AHEAD* Why would the Thunderhead not intervene when Rowan murders the other scythes, but Scythe Curie would be revived if her victims decided to glean her?
+puls707 I'm so glad you enjoyed it too!!! Okay well Rowan's taking out the bad scythes that are misusing their power. Thunderhead actually would prefer them gone as well, so he's letting Rowan do his thing, kind of turning a blind eye. With Marie, she's letting the family kill her so they can feel as if they avenged their lost relative, but they're not gleaning her. They're not sanctioned by law to administrate permanent death so Marie would hypothetically always be revived. And she's a great scythe so there's no reason to think she would be targeted by Rowan. The thunderhead has basically accepted Rowan as an actual Scythe despite him not being officially accepted into scythehood which is cray crayyyy!!!
Yesss!!! I just started Thunderhead and got my answer ahahaha basically because the Thunderhead recognizes Rowan as a scythe, it cannot interfere in his actions because that violates the law that separates them! 😱
I’m starting this hopefully tonight or tomorrow for the 24in48 readathon. The book has been sitting on my bookshelf since Christmas of 2016. 😳 I have a feeling I will be kicking myself for not reading this sooner.
I stayed up until 6 am last night reading this book. Honestly I’m not a reader, and I’ve never read a book on my own time, especially over the weekend. But this is the best book I have ever read, and I love how it talks about morals and you can feel all emotions. 10/10
Neal shusterman wrote my favourite series in the whole world, unwind and I want to read scythe so bad!! I'm struggling to get hold of a copy and it's heartbreaking, I want scythe 😭😭 finally more love for neal shusterman!!!
"I CANT BELIEVE THE LETTUCE DID THIS ALL BY HIMSELF" i burst out laughing, i love your book talks omg

My ship is Faraday x curie
Spoiler Warning: I found it super bad ass when Rowan took his test at the Winter Conclave and shot his mother dead before they even finished giving him the instructions, put the gun down and just peaced the f out just like that.
Michael Donnelly a tru gangster 🔥
I ducking laughed so loud when I read this. He is such a badass

Ohhhh is that it? I didn't get the joke when I read it so thank you for explaining 😁

Omg if Rowan is batman than Farrady is like his Alfred hahahahaha
Idk, I found Unwind very underwhelming. :( I thought that maybe it was because it wasn’t brutal enough for the premise to me
Unwind is my favourite series of all time and it doesn't get nearly enough credit!!! It's just unbeatable and written magnifying and the characters and the world and I'm crazed just thinking about it xx
I liked the Unwind series too, but for me, I thought this was even better!
Karen Zemek making me cry even more that I can't get a hold of one! X i will have it! Xx

"Today, I'm Christine."
Who are you other days? 😂😂
I loved this book I just finished thunderhead and it was really really good
AH I'M HALFWAY THROUGH THUNDERHEAD ALREADY!!
Finally! I'm so glad you read this book, because it is amazing!!!!!!!!! Also, I defs freaked out this much when I first read Scythe!
YES!! I've needed this booktalk ever since I read this last year!!
OMFG THIS IS SO ME RIGHT NOW I JUST FINISHED READING IT AND I JUST CAN'T GET OVER THIS IS BRILLIANT
WERE IS THE TOLL REVIEW? I CANT WAIT ANY LONGER
YES!!! FINALLY!!! I LOVED this book and it’s been so long since I’ve been able to talk about it.
* goes to book depository and adds to cart, checks out immediately *
I always trust you for amazing book recommendations Christine!!
CITRAN LIVES ON FOREVER!. Loved this books
I still need to read Scythe but Unwind was my favorite dystopian series so I have no doubt I'll be as shook as you lol
This book really suprised me because I started reading it and and was like okay heres another YA scifi book but all of the little nuances that built the world were amazing...and the plot twists omg. Reading this book was like watching a movie I cant even describe it.
I love putting on your book reviews while I write my book cause it helps me think lol.
You got me into this series and I just finished The Toll and I just had to come back to this video, you ruined my life I am obsessed with this series 😭😭
I’ve been waiting for this. For so long.
Oh my goodness. I can’t get over how amazing the audiobook was. I literally couldn’t stop listening all day today
My teacher started a dystopian literature class and she has us read it! It was really cool to see people who don’t like reading really enjoy this book!!
I don’t know why I waited so long, this book was SO GOOD. I’m in love.
I just started reading this 2 days ago! I am loving it so far, and am looking forward to coming back to this video once I finish it!
The fact that you have 2 scythe book copies and thunderhead makes me so happy and laugh.
I stayed up until 6 am last night reading this book. Honestly I’m not a reader, and I’ve never read a book on my own time, especially over the weekend. But this is the best book I have ever read, and I love how it talks about morals and you can feel all emotions. 10/10
I am making my students reading it, they loved it! The audio was amazing
Neal shusterman wrote my favourite series in the whole world, unwind and I want to read scythe so bad!! I'm struggling to get hold of a copy and it's heartbreaking, I want scythe 😭😭 finally more love for neal shusterman!!!
