I agree completely. A soundtrack can either make or break an anime, and Death Note could not have done a better job with theirs. It matches the tone of the show perfectly.
When this played in the last episode, it really hit me hard. I never liked Light, but seeing Matsuda just fall down in disbelief and despair, and Light just standing there knowing he lost...This is the best anime I've watched so far. Its too good.
If you haven't seen the anime Kaiji or Akagi I highly recommend it. The same composer did the music for them. They are wonderful psychological masterpieces.
It's one thing to have a great story for an Anime but without a great soundtrack the overall atmosphere and strength of the whole thing is nearly worthless, thankfully this soundtrack is magnificent.

Aizawa: "Light it's too late to deny it. You know Near has won. Just a moment ago you said "it looks like I win" (and you're expected us all to die). How much more of a confession do we need? Matsuda: Light... (on his knees) why?
Points to Aizawa for being the only one even willing to get close to Light who had just been outted as Kira and was royally pissed. Hell, when you think about it, Aizawa was also able to calm Light down up until the SPK agents freaked him out again.
"The following is the record which contains everything I have investigated on the Kira incident. The fact the now you are reading this message means I am no longer alive at this moment. I hear by leave this record as my firm achievement. That is all."

Loneliness but at the same time it has become a routine, repetitive, to the extent it’s unrecognisable anymore, it’s the only true permanent thing from our birth till death, we learn to make the best of it and even though it may be melancholic when we are young as we grow up, we tend to appreciate it more and more, realising that our company is much better than the company of inconsiderate stupid people who create the illusion of us not being alone while we are actually the loneliest when we are with them since we even lose the company of our ourselves when we are with them without it being compensated at all
The music, this, just hits me in the whole body every single time i listen to it it's like experiencing a beautiful and happy moment of previous years that I wish I could be back in but I know i can fucking never turn back time. It's like a heavily concentrated solution of nostalgia and regret. Death note is just perfect.
A dull past. A chaotic and addicting present you never want to end. But then it hits. You finally are ont he last legs of life, just for your goals to crumble and you are worse for wear because of it.

First heard this song as a preteen and now I’m sitting here as an adult and I can’t handle the feels
Can we even imagine Death Note without this THEME !!
Nope
No it's impossible to do so
Every death note theme is outstanding.
But this one hits different level..
What they have chosen has fit perfectly
Yes. Death note was written before this theme, so it has been imagined without the track
