  • Leyland Atlantean 1101 restoration episode 11. In this episode I TRY to get some painting done but the weather works against me. So I head inside and sort some lights out, also the rear reverse light and desto box lighting. And then take her for a spin!

Don’t forget when in service, the blinds were taught on the spindle hence no sag etc.

Trained and passed my test on something similar, though that was in London and it was a DMS complete with ratchet handbrake and rotary indicator switch. Only drove very few in service as they were on their way out by then.

      definitely fun to drive!

I mean the engineers weren't bothered with them by them so they were falling apart. One had so much play in the steering it was like setting sail every time you left a stop.

They did not fit in well with LT's overhaul regimen like the Merlins and Swifts didn't, which was tailored for RT/L/W days. Subsequent operators got a better run out of them. You poor thing getting them at their twilight with LT. Must have been hairy.

Hi Steve. I’ve checked out your channel as per your advice over the wireless the other day! I’m now subscribed! BTW the LRB joke was funny. That’s enough of the acronyms. Cheers.

How good was that drive, i was grinning the whole time. Hearing the thump thump of that engine idling, the psssst every gear change are sounds that are ingrained in my soul haha. Are you going to come back to Taree and do some paid rides when she's done?

That is the plan. Not sure when though.

I could feel my smiling muscles in my face the whole time. I usually have a melancholy resting face.

@@stevestufff Awesome, i cant wait to travel on this bus again one day. It's a big job and working out in the elements don't make things easy. I really appreciate you bringing her back to life.

That 0680 muscle was so satisfying. I could feel the power through the screen! Thanks for that.
That reversing panel looks better with LEDs I think. It's certainly more vivid and harder to miss. It's an improvement.

thankyou I agree, and next time I drive I will put a camera up the back closer to the engine!

@@stevestufff I'd like to hear it driving away with vigour from the curb. I once taped a tape recorder to the side of an STA MAN SL202 with a Voith gearbox, right next to the air intake grill. The result was to die for.
A shame I lost the tape!

My only memory of an Atlantean when in service was getting in one in the city as a four or five year old in the 70s and wanting so badly to go upstairs but only riding the lower deck as we were getting out in a few stops. We sat in the rear area.

Whatcha, re: the rear numbers, as they were originally on a roll, they spent their life taut.
    Great content as usual mate
    Keep up the good work.

Hello mate like someone else said that 0680 motor sounds good. Are those the original mirrors on there or not. Looking good though. Cheers 👍👍👍👋👋

Hi Peter. Yes the exterior mirrors are original, but both need some attention. I agree the engine sounds great!
