Happy birthday mate ...Hope to see you and your buses at Busfest...we travelling from Gulgong nsw for the day...thank you Steve..........Scotty and Di..... ...
Y2 and Y3 for SMS types IF you disconnect this unit thats the 32 pin plug and still got gears someone has worked elsewhere to get gears . When we had gear problems away from garage ,Y2 ..SSG or unknow .We had a plug from old unit connect the correct wires together and this gave us manual gears ..worked on DMS METROBUS and SMS but on SMS we could not get reverse gear IF ANYBODY can remember how to wire this plug be nice to know as I am working on MBA 588 and the wires to gearbox have been destroyed by someone who has not a clue what they where doing
@@stevestufff your gearbox will last years longer if left in manual mode ,you control engine revs as you change gear, whereas in auto your foots to the floor and it changes gear and you would never know when, also they pulled away in 2nd gear never used 1st . and to reduce wear even more when driving if you are coming up to a stop get in to 1st or 2nd JUST before vehicle stops .
starter button on dash not working . The small wire between NEG and POS ON STARTER MOTOR BECOMES POS WHEN BUTTON PUSHED . THIS WIRE RUNS ALL THE WAY TO THE CAB TO A RELAY .IF NO GEARS ARE SELECTED BUS WILL START. SO where auto has been disconnected someone has forgotten to remove this relay . I will try and find out where this relay is .IN the meantime run a live wire to button (do not forget FUSE) then wire to centre on starter
excellent Brian thankyou! I have a feeling that there is a relay issue, and it is also affecting the door operation. The door/transmission/starter all seem to be affected by a "master" relay somewhere.
THE SMALL START WIRE ON STARTER IS NUMBER 28 IT RUNS ALL THE WAY (or should) TO THE CAB BEHIND DRIVERS SEAT TO A RELAY .DISCONNECT if you can find it AND RUN TO STARTER BUTTON THEN A LIVE FEED TO BUTTON (REMEMBER THE CHASSIS IS DEAD.) NEG AND POS WIRES RUN EVERYWHERE AND NEARLY ALWAYS BLACK WITH NUMBERS )
THAT LITTLE SWITCH NEAR FUEL CUT OFF is for testing air system you have two air tanks for braking system. ,front /rear each has a micro switch ,switch reads N 1 2 after a set air pressure the flag goes up again at a set pressure drops if you had problems you could work out what line was giving problem ... 1 test front ..2 test rear so should be on N for running ,,,we had problems with these AIR was ok 9 times out 10 it was the micro switch at fault
Jeffrey Ornstein's channel just covered the Merlin and Swift. I learned the Merlin name doesn't refer to the magician from King Arthur but a bird of prey in the Falcon family! The Ford Falcon has a connection to this bus! Swift is also a bird species. Your bus was made in the same year as 2001 A Space Odyssey. You could call it futuristic bus which it was.
C.A.V. Transistorised Automatic Transmission Control Panels Type 442/Y2 Google is your friend! I'm guessing it's something to do with the electric over pnuemo system.
this unit received power from SSG {fitted on gearbox}speed sensitive generator 2nd to 3rd to top gear ,then from Y2 send power to EP unit ,open valve and send air to gearbox
DOOR PRE -SELECT ON DASH WHATS THIS ..When new in service you could push door open at any speed and when Bus pulled into Bus Stop the doors would open .,BUT they forgot pedestrian crossings traffic lights other road users before Bus Stop and the doors would open This unit was removed in the first few weeks of service
JUST INFO When new these buses were built with hydraulic throttle , what a disaster..leaks slow to respond and even more leaks ... .they were soon replaced with cable
Happy Birthday! All the years I drove Routemasters I never had a single one that had kept it's AEC steering wheel cover over the 'ashtray'.
Loved the improvisation with the traffic cone 🤣
@@richardhawkins6960 haha thanks. If it works it works!
Nice to see someone changing gear on a semi properly.

What's the density of the additive - can't be much more than 1. Just weigh it on kitchen scales.
If you support the bottom of the rad and then remove the supporting bar, would that give you enough room to get the top of the fan shroud on?
there might be a way if I remove an upper hose, but for now I am happy with it. Maybe over Christmas I will build up the energy to try again!

yeah I have been told that the Aussie operator of this unit disconnected the auto function. Such a shame.

ok thanks

weird that it has been cut out. Thanks for that

I shared Steve's channel with Jeffrey, so he could take a look at the Merlin

and it has been disconnected apparently. I would love to run it as an auto.

SOCC or Pete and his Bus on RUclips might be able to help with the box under the drivers seat.
thankyou

With the weld, you’re slightly too fast … let the weld lava up and pleat it
thankyou, I will take the welder home at Christmas and do some practise
