Chopin played small, private concerts only. I’d like to imagine that Chopin decided to start the etude with those slow, quiet beats just to make his patrons think it was going to be a little pretty slow piece so as to then knock them out of their seats by immediately kicking into the *highest-* goddamn gear, out of nowhere. Cheeky Chopin.

But Chopin didn't originally write the begins measures, was a recommendation from a friend, the Chopin's Etudes are Technical pieces, need to be played like a Study, Is not a "musical piece" I mean they don't have the free of rubato interpretation like a Ballade or a Mazurka

This song is analogous to a college semester. First two weeks, really easy, and is just a sick joke for when the storm of work hits. And no college semester would be complete without it all coming to a a climax. And suddenly, it's all over.

Dear "Shigatsu Kimi No Uso" Fans,
Now that you've probably listened to the entire soundtrack of pieces played in the anime, it's highly suggested that you look on spotify and youtube to explore other forms of classical music! There's such a wide range to explore, other than the small range of romantic era piano and violin music that the anime covers! There's so much more violin and piano repertoire to listen to, and start looking into chamber music pieces, symphonies, concertos... And not just from the 1800s. Handel's Messiah is legendary, Bach's cello suites and piano preludes set the standard for future musicians, Mahler's symphonies are incredibly stunning, Shostakovich has a broad range of symphonies and famous string quartets, Shumann wrote beautiful piano quartets, Ravel's string quartet is extremely expressive... there's just so much more to see!

  • @teacup4561

Strangely, I don't think of winter when I hear it. I feel instead the power and emotion. I suppose that's what Chopin meant by winter storm... The power and passion of a winter storm. And strangely enough, when the song first starts and it goes from that slow, lonely beat to the intensity, I get chills. This song is a winter storm itself, not an interpretation of one. That's what Chopin meant by winter storm.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso became a great raeson for people out there who weren't into clasical music at all. Why are you guys so irritated by the fact that this piece became popular after the show? I've been playing piano for 11 years now and when this anime started airing a year ago, I felt like there was finally something that is TRULY about classical music and has lots of high quality pieces along with the underrated ones. I was happy indeed. But when I listen these pieces I see the comments of Shigatsu wa kimi no uso fans, and that shows me that this show has succeeded at their achievement. They made people love classical music and learn about musicians such as Chopin, Rachmaninov, Ravel and others. You should be glad that the population of classical music fans are increasing. Stop being a hipster and just enjoy your music.

Claudriel As a classically trained pianist, I was ecstatic that YLIA was exposing the incredible medium of classical music to a larger audience. What I am not happy about is that there are now tons of music "experts" roaming around online criticizing musicians on baseless claims. To be very honest, YLIA is over dramatized. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but in real life there are no swirling colors or flower petals when people play. It's the music alone that reaches you. Too many people are viewing the music through an "anime" lense. Take for example the Chopin ballade. It's an incredibly complex song filled with such depth of feeling, yet people are running around calling it "Kousei and Kaori's love song." No. You cannot denote such a complicated piece to something as mundane as a love song. Chopin's ballade does not "belong" to two fictional teenage characters. To chain that song down to something like that is an insult to what Chopin was trying to convey. Yes, music can move you, but to blindly criticize people miles more talented than you because their music did not have the same impact as an overly romanticized version from the show is not ok. Classical music is not meant to be romanticized. It is meant to be appreciated as is, with the music speaking, plain and simple.

I've been playing the piano since I was 3 years old (my parents force me) and I'm an anime fan, so when I was watching Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, I was like, "cool! I'm gonna cosplay as one of them and learn one of their pieces!" I had already started playing Chopin's Etude Op.10 No.4 (Aiza's piece) before I even began watching the anime anyways. Emi's piece sounded really cool, so now I'm gonna start learning it... :| (btw in my opinion Emi's piece is a fuck ton harder than Aiza's)
