When it comes to the suicide rates being high in Montana, Alaska, and Wyoming, (as well as many other northern states) there is something called seasonal depression that is caused by the lack of sun during winter. The winters in northern states is also a huge factor for why there is not a large population. (Most people don't want to live in a cold location)

I still find it funny how Russia needed the money so badly that they sold their foothold on North America. I bet they regret that Apparently the best place to live is Idaho, it's the perfect porridge, not too hot or too cold, it's just right 👌
At the time it was pretty clear that if russia didn't sell, America would just annex. Or you know, send colonists in and claim it afterwards. It was basically a stamping fee.

Curious Giraffe yes... a lot of states actually make fun of others from different areas of their own state. For example, I live in NJ. There is a ongoing feud between the North and the South. There really is no central when it comes to this. It is like 2 completely different states. Haha
You should have done the population totals in terms of each city’s surrounding urban area. Rather than living in neighborhoods inside cities like in much of the world, Americans tend to live just outside cities in suburbs so I think that number would be more accurate. For example, 2.7 million people live in Chicago but over 8 million live in its urban area.
I wonder if the reason why suicide rate is so high in remote/rural states is because they found people dead alone in the wilderness or whatever and assumed suicide
It guess I can see where living like a total hermit can do that but I would think I would be less depressed if I still had neighbors within walking distance but not live in a downtown slum.
Episode 3 of this series should be countries of Europe. Not just the EU, the whole continent. It would be awesome if you could talk about the stats of countries that aren't sovereign like Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Catalonia, Venice etc.

No, definitely Russia, or at least western Russia. Also definitely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Cyprus, and part of Turkey. Kazakhstan you can leave out though.
This is states. Clearly, there are a number of cities with higher homicide rates than Louisiana. I don't know why people keep thinking Chicago is the murder capital. It's not and never has been.

Winter: eh atleast it rains.
Never been to Alabama but I want too one day. I'm from Massachusettes and from my car ride up from Florda (I drove down to Florda) we have to pass through Georgia and we planned on taking a trip to Atlanta while we were down there but it would've took too long. I'd have probably stopped in AL if we were already in Atlanta.

If you guys are arguing about which portland is better, just stop.
We all know it's Oregon's.
Californians might get the actual wildfires, but here in Texas, it feels like a wildfire.
We didn't really get any this year and the fire season is just about over too. Next week it's supposed to rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains.
Agree along with Louisiana where I am
Texas:
Day: Warm
Night: cold
Evening: yes
They occasionally get wildfires; there were some pretty big ones in much of the state in the summer of 2011.
People here complaining about their weather conditions where I’m here in Wisconsin like “hey, we got a literal record breaking deadly blizzard in mid April!”
Same here, our latest cold day was on June 2nd.
“Hey, Erie, PA got a 1-inch short of the country’s record in a blizzard on Christmas 2017! Notice us!”
In Colorado our snowiest months are march and April. My last day of school which was on May 25th was literally cancelled because there was too much snow. Leadville and Aspen get about 25 in of snowfall in April. But I do agree that everybody here is complaining about their weather and it's really annoying. Please tell me if you guys get 5 inches of hail in mid June and see the snow plows out plowing the roads.

We're all suggesting topics for episode 3 as if it hasn't been over 2 years since the last one came out

We bought Alaska from Russia dirt cheap
We also bought the entire southwest from Mexico dirt cheap with the exception a strip of land underneath Arizona and New Mexico. That little piece of land was freaking expensive.
Matthew Brunette Not to mention the entire Midwest, almost a million square miles, from France at $0.42 per acre in the modern day
No, the Russians did actually offer it. Given what was going on in Russia at the time, my guess is that they were trying to pay off war debt and finance their infant industrial base.
Alex Von Seggern
I know, and like I said, it was very cheap
Jack Strait also louisiana territory from france.

Hawaii: see that British flag there? Yeah well let’s take that, add some stripes and claim it as ours!!
What no
Hawaiian monarchs put it on there as a sign of their friendship with the British. This is unlike most flags with the Union Jack on them as the most native people in other countries were conquered by the British forcefully. It’s not to claim as theirselves, but a reminder of an old alliance between two kingdoms.

All the time. Especially neighboring states.
Curious Giraffe yes... a lot of states actually make fun of others from different areas of their own state. For example, I live in NJ. There is a ongoing feud between the North and the South. There really is no central when it comes to this. It is like 2 completely different states. Haha
Curious Giraffe yes, for example Texas and California have some little feud
I only make fun of idiot southerners who think their state is it's own country... cough cough... Texas... cough cough
Curious Giraffe yes
You should have done the population totals in terms of each city’s surrounding urban area. Rather than living in neighborhoods inside cities like in much of the world, Americans tend to live just outside cities in suburbs so I think that number would be more accurate. For example, 2.7 million people live in Chicago but over 8 million live in its urban area.
The suicide rate is correlated with population because there's like 3 people in Alaska, if one person commits suicide that's 33%
It's per 100,000 people

Congrats to DC where the depressed don't kill themselves, someone else does it for them!

HipsterShiningArmor not Russia, not turkey, yes Cyprus, not Azerbaijan, not Georgia, not Armenia

GameAddict51 Chicago is part of IL, so that means IL has over 400 homicides, so that's higher than LA.
