Just a couple of things I really need to say right off the bat... first off, I'm really sorry for how long it's been since my last video. 2020 was a weird year (for all of us) and there were several factors that contributed to me not uploading. I'm very optimistic for 2021 though, both for my channel and the world as a whole. Second, I know that Wendover also did this video. I actually had this idea way back in 2014, and was working on it as a background project until 2016 when Wendover uploaded his videos and so I decided to put away my list, and didn't add to it for several years. Then I figured enough time had passed (and new facts have emerged) that it shouldn't stop me from making a video that I really wanted to make. So here it is.
If you're a regular viewer of the channel, some of the facts may seem a little repetitive (especially if you've seen my flag video), but like I said, I have been collecting these facts for several years, before many of my other videos even existed.
As mentioned at the end of the video, I finally decided to start a Patreon after 7 years on RUclips. It's not that I will give up on doing sponsored content, but I think not having to rely on sponsorship money to allow me to do this full-time will give me more creative freedom. I could tackle bigger, more ambitious projects, and maybe even do some videos that aren't very "advertiser-friendly". So if you would like to help me out, I would greatly appreciate any support! www.patreon.com/wonderwhy
Finally, for 2021, I also would like to engage more with my audience, so I have decided to start a Discord server. So come join us at discord.gg/eshPYMhMTw (shoutout to High Peak Mapping for helping me set it up) Thanks for the patience during my absence, it's great to be back! I think you need to explain more about East Timor (9:43). The word Timor refers to the name of the island where the country located. And yes, the name of the island "Timor" comes from the word "east" in Malay. However, it is "East Timor" because the country has the eastern part of the Timor Island and the western part belongs to Indonesia.

How about make your own video about Greece then rather than hating on a guy that's trying to make educational videos for a living? Random fact about Greece: Thanks to the European Union, their economy got wrecked and they're still suffering terribly. There's your interesting fact.

@Jamie K you could still get beef in Southern and Eastern part of India . it is banned in the country because it's against the religion of the majority population Of the country.
Thank you for a very interesting video. I have one remark: The closest capitals in the world are obviously Rome and the Vatican city with 0 kilometers. They are literally next to each other.
And the reason is they dont want to let the biggest party in the country rule the government cause its close to extreem right and lefties dont want that so
I'm Bosnian, I live here my whole life and I have never seen a landmine map of my country, it's mind blowing. By the way, when I was around 10 years old, we were playing in the woods, swinging on trapeze like Tarzan and then an older man came close and he heard us laughing or something. The guy started yelling at us like crazy to get the fuck out ASAP. We were playing in a minefield.
Well, there are many many of those signs. We as kids played in the forests too, but we were educated, or scared of parents, to not fuckin make single step into that area. We are good kids😄
@@lavenderenvelopes2968 Yeah, one my neighbour died ten years ago, in the Vlasics forests during the cutting of the forest . It was big tragedy for family and town.
The Bukina Faso story is quite a complex one. One filled with tears and suffering. After colonisation ended, Thomas Sankara set out to rebuild the country back up with equality and justice in mind. Without the help of the western world and of course they managed to kill him through his friend. Basically neo-colonialism. He'd influenced the name to remind his people of the values they were to hold as a society. RIP Sankara.
@@Captain-Sum.Ting-Wong What would you know about Sankara anyways? Don't wanna guess your nationality but the West sure have shit on your brain buddy. "Dictator" lol. He never had any animosity towards any opposition. He never harmed anybody and was the most humble human that country had ever seen. Have you seen the car he rode versus what the "opposition" rode. Pretty stupid to assume every Visionary African leader is bent on being a dictator. "He would have been a dictator" why did the West never let him be then? Why did they kill him before he became one? They let other dictator be why not him? You're Asian and you've had your fair share of dictators why not care about those and stop worrying about those that "could've been"? Was the arsehole they put in power not the dictator? Plunging his country into dept and corruption? Increasing the wealth gap and continuing to oppress his own people like the colonisers did? Plus I don't see how a dictator could have the values he did. He was a dictator to his killers and you siding with them? Nah think twice. That's disgusting.

For those wondering, the reason Australia has so many national parks is because much of our land is made up of former Aboriginal tribeland, what we call The Rightful Owners. These lands are protected and regarded as very culturally significant, especially those containing Aboriginal paintings (which are very beautiful and you should check out). If you come to visit please be as respectful as possible and don't touch significant things, as sadly most Aboriginal history is lost, and preserving as much as possible is difficult enough. Take only pictures, leave only footprints - sincerely Australian with a love of her country (not the government though that thing sucks lmao)
I wish I could say the same about Brazil, where most of the native people's land was taken by cattle and agroculture landowners. Government basically giving it out to the rich so we can export those grains :/
could be another fun fact that most Indonesians have never seen manta rays firsthand in their life even though their own country is the biggest sanctuary for manta rays.
Keanu Reeves being born in Lebanon is a fun fact about Keanu Reeves, not Lebanon. I am sure there are much more non-USA related fun facts about several countries you have mentioned here.
14:15 I love how here he said "it's know as "la lluvia de peces"" as like it was a mythological name or smth and it literally means rain of fish in spanish
I still don't get it though...why do you guys don't have a government...is it because no party received a majority in the parliament and no one build a coalition? Can you explain that to me please 👉👈
@@justalex3828 The thing is, there's a certain party that others don't want to cooperate with. Called Vlaams Belang, others view them as too extreme whilst the only thing they want is security in our own country which apparently seems taboo for the rest of the parties. Lately Vlaams Belang has been getting more and more votes than ever, overtaking anyone else. The current left wing parties barely get 10% of the votes each but found a loophole to counter a majority vote. If they all work together in a coalition, they can outnumber VB and still remain in power. But to do that, they need the other bigger parties with a big portion of votes. Most often those parties refuse to work together with left wing parties as they tend to swing money to themselves whenever they can on costs of the state and taxpayers. Literally, the left wing parties here just increased their own budget with millions for no reason... Anyway, there needs to be a majority among votes with the combination of parties that they'd like (At least 51% of votes counted together). If they don't reach that majority, they can't pass as a government and no government will start. It happened twice already where that occured. The coalition of parties didn't reach the majority of votes to become ruling parties. But due to Covid pandemic, the party with about the least amount of votes abused their current power to put some dumb Walloonian politician in power to "lead" (Basically leave Belgium and its citizens to fend for themselves). So basically, TLDR: If there's no majority of votes with the coalition they choose. No government will be installed, even if for the sake of having a governmen. Because fuck Open-VLD and the Walloonian parties dishing around Flemish money.

Not a very unbiased telling of the story. Sankara was becoming a dictator, outlawing his opposition and oppressing anyone who criticized him.
@@Captain-Sum.Ting-Wong

For those wondering, the reason Australia has so many national parks is because much of our land is made up of former Aboriginal tribeland, what we call The Rightful Owners. These lands are protected and regarded as very culturally significant, especially those containing Aboriginal paintings (which are very beautiful and you should check out). If you come to visit please be as respectful as possible and don't touch significant things, as sadly most Aboriginal history is lost, and preserving as much as possible is difficult enough. Good day to you southern neighbor i am Dutch 🇳🇱

Then there's also the magical oases in the Western desert, you can visit "Siwa", a paradise in the middle of the desert with the largest number of palm trees in the world, which has the temple of divination in which Alexander the great was crowned king of Egypt .. it has an awesome fully preserved medieval stone old city and walls.
