    My mum had one of these, taught herself to play accordion at 17 in 1960 and played everyday until she passed 2 months ago. This is the same accordion she played and i have it here with me on my lap now.

    I picked up one of these today for $100 CAD. Definitely much older than yours, Les. I’m sure the original owner had new bellows installed at some time while she owned it because they are in pristine shape. I bought it from her 80-something year old niece who never got the hang of playing it after the old aunt passed away. I really appreciate your lesson here. A wonderful way to get started.

    My Father was born in Yonkoping, Sweden in 1899. He played an instrument very much like this...There were four young men who played their concetinas together...I have a picture...It was quite a site to see...smile

    I got pretty excited about these one-rows early in my melodeon playing career - before we discovered just how the mellow sound of a melodeon contrasted nicely Julie's voice, and I finally reconciled myself with having to learn to play a two-row to get the chords and accidentals required by the material she likes to sing. Still, I learned that it's surprising how much you can do with them...

    I really like this gentlemans approach to teaching melodeon. He has a nice method of doing so and plays in a very good Morris style,🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

    Daddy Long Les' favorites are also mine. i started learning to play the melodeon after watching my dad play so well when we were kids. the classic songs remind me of how amazed we were then but really didn't know how our dad learned to play the melodeon.

    Great demo of this little box. I paid my money and took my chances on an internet purchase of a pressed wood 1040 ($150 USD). My rare, good fortune: it needed only new bellows gaskets and bellows straps. Love its diminutive size, its *very* light weight (both being ergonomic concerns) and, oh the sweet sweet sound!

    After watching the video I have a far better idea of how to proceed. It is really very helpful. Deirdre

    Sounds beautiful! At a local flea market store there is an old wooden Franz Hochholzer 10 button diatonic accordion that has only three bass buttons... it needs a once over, but I'm tempted to get it...

    Awesome! I just bought myself a Hohner HA114 in D, it's my first(well really second but I never played the previous one) accordion and I got it cheap for 8.50£ and it was in great condition, even the original protective plastic cover on the leather strap left.
    I'm gonna learn to play Oh Susanna right now! I love playing it on the banjo. :)

    Here in Newfoundland and Labrador the most common accordion (or cardeen as it's often pronounced here) keys are G/C and A/D although there are also lots of one rows. If anyone is interested in learning some Newfoundland and Labrador traditional music I offer diatonic (button) accordion lessons through a unique combination of animation and video demonstration. You can contact me for more details at my website www.danielpayne.ca. Lessons on other instruments also available! All the best!

      Here in Québec it's G/C as well. And you can probably get by with just a one row C ! Our ''rill" is really about C and it's fourth F over here! That's it! Variety commes from the tempos

    Could you point me to where I could possibly find more music for this melodeon?
    I like “La Canel en Octobre” but I think this melodeon doesn’t have enough bass/chord buttons to be able to play that song.
    I might try to learn “Sherborne Waltz”. But I appreciate any advice you could give me on where I can find more tunes for this particular instrument.
    Keep up the good work! I appreciate what you do. 😁

    • @christaylor2070
      @christaylor2070 4 года назад

      Canal en Octobre only needs 3 chords [you could put in a minor but can get away without it] so that 1 row would be fine

    hello, please, can you write me how dou behind tones in the buttonhole of the 10 button? I have a harmonica like you, but it is very ratty, and I want her tune. I also want to ask what tones, voices are bass parts? there are two chords, please know that there are voices that makes the chord? It's always three voices joined in a chord, but I have it so hard ratty that it does not recognize. Thank you for your response Czech Republic Prague

      Hi Francoise.
      Try John Kirkpatrick's DVDs.

    So what's the difference between a button accordion, and a button box? I have a 2 row Honer, my mom has a 4 row Melodia. Are both terms correct that they are accordions and button boxes?

    • @daddylongles
      @daddylongles  6 лет назад

      Both accordions. Melodeon is essentially an English word for diatonic button accordion.

    • @negan3042

      Daddy Long Les OK, thanks for the answer!

      Another question. Is a concertina the same thing? I played one before I played the diatonic button accordian.

    • @daddylongles
      @daddylongles  6 лет назад

      No, a concertina, although a squeezebox is very different. Go to my website www.daddylongles.com and you will see the various types.

    I have a 10 button melodeon in G with 4 bass keys. What I am struggling with is knowing when to pull and when to push it's like the opposite of what my brain thinks it will be and that's without adding the bass notes lol. I suppose it takes months to remember the sequence of this for each song. As a guitar player it is not coming natural to me at all it is almost like no scale exists on the melodeon

    • @daddylongles
      @daddylongles  3 года назад

      Totally understand. Same as you - guitarist first. Brain burner for a while and then at last the penny drops. Just watch lots of videos. All my music shows the pushes and the pulls. Take a look - www.daddylongles.com
