I got my 1st motorcycle at 8 years old, and I turned 60 yesterday. Burt Munro (and Rollie Free) have been among my heroes for over 50 years. I was so happy to see that this movie was made, and even more thrilled to see Sir Anthony Hopkins cast in the lead role. The sheer determination that these seekers of land speed records is amazing. Thank you very much for reacting to this highly underrated picture, and thank you for your wonderful view of it.
😭 this old man (me) could barely hold back his tears … This film is blinding with wholesome twinkles. - so glad you’re watching. So few have given this ditty the attention it deserves. 🍻
I am old. But In my heart I’m still that 16 year old boy that wants to go fast… That hits home. I was always a adrenaline junky for going fast. No matter what it was. Snowmobile, dirt bike, cars. Didn’t matter. The fact this guy had speed wobble at 200mph and his leg was burning alive. Lost his goggles and couldn’t see. All he could do was to duck his head into the cockpit and just pinned the throttle. The balls this guy had….

Hello, the man who played neighbor Tom was also Mayor of Invercargill, New Zeeland. I believe Burt's bike is on display at the hardware store. Burt's shop is a heritage site.
@okchristina: WOW! Lots of respect for reacting to this film! I haven't looked for it but I'm sure no one has done it yet. One of my favorites! I remember when the trailer came out but didn't see it until later but it stuck with me.
Yes, they did have car rentals back then. I grew up in the 1980s, and on AM radio stations in the south, they would run old radio shows from the 1940s -1960s. And on shows like Johnny Dollar, he would rent cars all of the time.
Hi Christina. Just subbed to your channel. Been waiting for this reaction to drop. This is such an underrated feel good movie. This was a real passion project for the director Roger Donaldson who had been trying to get this movie made for almost 30 years. When Roger was younger he made a documentary called "Offerings To The God Of Speed" (which is up on RUclips if you want to watch it) where he got to follow the real Burt Munro on one of his journeys to Bonneville. The real Burt came across every bit as much of a nice guy as his portrayal by Anthony Hopkins in this movie.
I really like this movie. I own it on digital and bluray. i tend to watch it about once a year. There are so many great movies like this that never get the attention they deserve. I suggest Bicenteniel Man With Robin Williams. More like this one please! I do not think I can watch another Marvel reaction that so many other reactors focus on.
One of the guys on the stage with Burt in Invercargill was then current mayor of Invercargill Tim Shadbolt. Always controversial figure he always hypes up his conflicts with the Invercargill Residents Association simply because he likes to say that he is on the run from the IRA. When he studied law in the 1970s it was still required for students to attend law lectures in suit and tie. He was one of the leaders of a beachside hippie community. In 1983 he decided to run for Mayor of Waitakere City simply because he did not want the incumbent re elected unopposed. To the surprise of everyone, he won. He towed his concrete mixer (named "Karl Marx") behind the Mayoral Daimler in a Christmas parade. He has been accused of financial mismanagement (which seems to be at least partially true.) In the 90s he unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Auckland City and Dunedin before winning in Invercargill. In the late 90s there was an ad for Mainland Cheese which featured Shadbolt facing the camera with a cheeky grin saying "I don't care where, as long as I'm Mayor. As long as I'm Mayor, I don't care where" In 2012 he won a Guinness World Record for longest continuous TV interview. (26 hours. And he later said he would have liked to continue.) At a length of service of 23 years he was the 2nd longest serving Mayor in NZ history.
May I suggest THE FLYING SCOTSMAN it's a true story about Graeme Obree who set the hour record twice on a bike he built out of a washing machine. Graeme was also world champion twice the UCI banned his bike and his riding style (the superman) this was in the early 90s. I can remember watching him beat his rival who had an expensive LOTUS carbon fiber bike Billy Boyd and Johnny Lee Miller star I think it was before he married Angelina Jolee
🤔 sometimes the origin of things have strange paths to their birth. - Bert and Ernie first appeared in the Sesame Street pilot episode in July 1969 Who knows if there’s any connection. 😊
TORQUE is a good/bad it's fast and the furious with motorbikes directed by Joseph Kahn who also directed music videos he's worked with everybody from Britney spears to snoop dog. Produced by the same producer of all the fast and furious movie's it even stars Vince has the bad guy

Nice Reaction...... The Racing Community are generally "nice" people..... Been my experience that they chip in and help/assist each other...... Burt is a True Legend..... Couple other Racing movies based on True Stories are "Heart Like a Wheel" (1983) (Story of the First Female to race NHRA Funny Car/Dragsters), and "Snake and Mongoose" (2013).... Both take place in tthe 60's - 80's........
