Double boiler method is best & its best to add the cocoa butter in once it’s melted as it can become Grainy. Thanks for sharing. For those adding Essential Oils or Blends, I highly suggest you do a Basic Aromatherapy Course so you’ll know which oils or blends that certain people can’t have due to Medications, Pregnancy, Breastfeeding & Newborn To 6yr Children. Then you can place warning labels on your lotion bars. Mica can be added Ecosoya Q210 Soy Wax (formally known as Ecosoya CB135) can also be used in lotion bars as it’s Dermatology Tested Safe for all Skin Types + can be used in a variety of Skin Products
I'd recommend something like Cosmetic Grade Natural Mica Powder Pigment (amzn.to/2ug0M1x (affiliate link)) for even, bright colors. The link goes to a multicolor pack, but you can also buy single packs of one color.
I really want to try this but I’m not sure about measurements. How would I know how much bees wax to use for a firm bar? Also, is there a good calculator for this?
The ingredients are measured in equal amounts by weight. If you want more detailed instructions, as well as suggestions for firmer/softer bars beyond "use more wax". please see - commonsensehome.com/lotion-bars/
I don't, because I am very sensitive to them, but it you would like to add some, use a few drops after the liquid is removed from the heat, before it goes into the molds.
Kee Cooper this recipe, the 1:1:1 ratio is great but it needs to be done by weight. If you measured out one cup of melted coconut oil or melted cocoa butter it may throw the ratio off. When you measure a cup of solid coconut oil then melt it, the volume decreases, but the weight is the same. So you may be adding twice as much oil as beeswax by doing it by volume.
Common Sense Home I made some using Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Candelilla Wax and almond oil it seemed soft and oily. I then changed out the almond for Jojoba oil and like that one better...They both turned out great but my husband preferred the jojoba one better.. I hear that the bees wax has a burnt smell. I will buy bees wax and compare to Candelilla at a later time. Thank you
@@beautybybredice9352 From my experience, it depends on the beeswax. when we purchased refined pellets for ease of use, they smelled bland and waxy. Our monster block of wax from the neighbors has a pleasant, lightly sweet smell. No burnt smell yet, but I could see that being the case if they overheated the wax.
My pots have very heavy bottoms (over half an inch thick) and heat evenly with no scorching. This allows me to not have the hassle of using a double boiler. If you like using a double boiler or have thin bottomed pots and need to use a double boiler, then that is a good choice.
Hi There - My name is Cindy and I post videos about recycling and re-purposing. I am posting a video next Tuesday and would like to include a link to your video. If you would not like me to link to this video, please let me know. I will be happy to send you a link to my video once it is posted if you are interested. Please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
@@commonsensehome Hi again I guess I don't know what arranged link swapping is. My video is about how to reuse a dollar store container in several ways and one way is as a container for a hand made lotion bar so I thought I would include a link to a tutorial on how to make them. If you are not comfortable with that I completely understand please let me know. Thanks for your quick reply.

Question what can u use to color your bar of lotion can u use food coloring to color the bars or something else....love your videos

Where did you say we can get labels for the altoids tins?
On the website at commonsensehome.com/lotion-bars/
Can you add fragrance oil
Yes, it's fine to add fragrance oil at the end before pouring it into molds.
I really want to try this but I’m not sure about measurements. How would I know how much bees wax to use for a firm bar? Also, is there a good calculator for this?

Can i use shea butter instead of coco cocoa butter
Yes, you can substitute shea butter, though the consistency will be slightly different.
What about making a cream instead of a bar? How does one do that?
If you'd like a soft spread, use less beeswax.
Do you use essential oils?
I don't, because I am very sensitive to them, but it you would like to add some, use a few drops after the liquid is removed from the heat, before it goes into the molds.

Hallo aus Wisconsin. Genießen Sie die Lotion.
I made some but the oil won’t go back solid. It looks chunking and ugly. What did I do wrong?
I've never had that happen. What sort of oil did you use, and were all the ingredients completely melted before you poured the bars?

The beeswax is making mine come out so streaky in the shower (I want to use it in the showers) what can I do?
It's a lotion, not a soap. You'll have better results if you apply it after you dry off from your shower.
Like these because All the lotion product is used..not wasted..unlike lotion in containers .. there is always a little stuck at the bottom. of
This is true. They are very easy to use up entirely.
It’s 4 ounces by weight not by volume which is why it measures out a cup.
Lol found the answer on your site👍🏽
If you have time, let me know how it works out. I don't use candelilla wax since we have such an abundance of beeswax available.
