Also, along with Oh My Girl, Dreamcatcher is frequently named as a favorite from other idols (especially idols from popular groups) so I think their ability to survive in an industry "allegedly" trying to stifle their success is because they're well supported by their idol peers.

During various interviews, when Dreamcatcher was asked what their goals would be for that year, they always included "getting first win" in their answers. They'd been answering like this since 2014. But ever since Deja Vu, they stopped saying that completely; and changed the answer to "getting more fans." Dreamcatcher knew they got fucked over, and I'm glad they moved on. I still want them to win soon, but I don't want it to be at The Show.

SBS Experts are used to EDM, Pop and Electronica. They are scared of different genres. It's a narrow-minded mindset, but Dreamcatcher just keeps getting more and more popular despite the industry's reluctance to expand out of the circle of genres the industry's been spiraling in for quite sometime now.
what i love about this is that the company doesn't give up on them. they took a whole risk and redebuted them and took the risk of a new and unique concept which isn't common in kpop. dreamcatcher and their company are amazing & so hardworking. i really hope dreamcatcher get their first win soon bc they deserve it so fucking much

I'm not their fan, but something that made me very angry was the fact that they were being treated as rookies and were on a rookie segment with everglow in 2019. That was plain disrespectful

In part 2 we have: Handong leaving for China in August of 2019 to go on a Chinese survival show. Her schedule conflicts prevented her participation in Dreamcatcher’s Scream comeback. When the survival show finally ended, Handong was still unable to go back to Korea. Why? Because a global pandemic originating from Handong’s hometown, Wuhan, caused the world to enter quarantine. Handong’s Wuhan passport prevented her from returning because of Korea’s travel ban. Although the travel ban was lifted on the 10th of August, Handong was unable to film or record for the album coming out on the 17th of August. Even if she came back on the 10th, she’ll still have to quarantine for at least 14 days. This means Handong will only be able to participate in the last leg of promotions at best. Oh, and we still haven’t gotten a first win. Dreamcatcher really have the absolute worst luck.
Tbh if they had the absolute worst luck, they wouldn't be here anymore. 3 years and still going strong is not a sign of bad luck to me, yes some unfortunate things have happened but their fanbase keeps growing along with their sales
update: handong is back, dreamcatcher will appear in kcon, they will have another online concert, handong will release a solo song (kinda like paradise by siyeon) and dreamcatcher will have a comeback in january

happyface entertainment sounds like an amazing company that actually cares about their idols and pushes them through like most companies wouldve given up on minx but they rebranded and kept trying to push the girls towards sucess and even when people got antsy about a debut they still didnt give up
Maybe not amazing considering how Dreamcatcher’s comebacks always end up happening at the worst time (basically constantly competing against super groups), but they are definitely good. Their CEO had and still has a lot of faith in Dreamcatcher considering the sheer amount of risks he took to make them successful. I don’t blame him though when he has a group whose vocal talent is among the top in the industry.
Also even though happyface is not a big company in the slightest, they still managed to pull enough resources to make a subsidiary label which focuses solely on managing dreamcatcher
I can like any group that catches my eye, but I make it a point to only stan/support groups with decent/good companies. Loona, Dreamcatcher, Dreamnote - their companies may not be perfect, but they're better than most. I specifically stopped supporting Blackpink because YG sucks in many ways and wastes their talent. (As in, I'll still listen to their music, but won't go out of my way to stream, buy albums, etc.)
REASON WHY WE SHOULD ALL BE GLAD THAT DC IS UNDER HF ENT: I've seen companies debut groups, give them 2-3 comebacks. If it doesn't work out as expected, they just give the group an indefinite hiatus or disbandment itself. I've been a fan of different underrated groups for long so I know. Dreamcatcher is the FIRST underrated group that I've stayed with for so long because they're actually doing pretty well. HF knows what it's doing in building a larger and stronger fanbase than finding that one slip thru to become a "one hit wonder" Looking at Momoland now (no offense), DC are in better standing I can say.

D1CE is having a comeback this June which is said to be an emotional ballad and I'm not sure if that's really a good move for a comeback, considering the big groups coming back that month (Twice, BP, TXT, etc.) and a ballad being less noticed tbh.

Déjà Vu era was really frustrating. From the weird calculations the first week, second week without announcing winner (when they still had a chance to win), then third week where their chances have decreased a lot, and forth week which I didn't even watch cause I was fed up of all this stuff

Anyone felt it was a blessing in disguise that Minx disbanded? It gave them an opportunity to revamp themselves and discover their own identity. I honestly felt Minx was too 'generic'. DC however has a different and unique identity, which should have allowed them to stand out but were constantly bogged by the media. Between Blackpink at #5 a and (G)IDLE at #7... They're one of the few names on the list not coming from a Big 3 company. DC have now more than 550 000 total albums sold through GAON in Korea (doubled their sales in just 20 months) and have also doubled their total brand YT views to more than 400M, in the same time (with over 280M Official MV total views). They became the first K-Pop Girl Group to reach #1 on Billboard's Next Big Sound Chart in February 2021, with Odd Eye. And all that, in a year that the K-Pop industry produced record sales. Dreamcatcher proved that they're late bloomers, and that they can deliver amazing music and performances, that people in Korea and abroad love (Sources for the data can be provided on demand). Dreamcatcher have now officially outperformed some of the important girl groups mentioned in this video (many faced serious problems in 2021, unfortunately) and the girls proved to the World they are a force to be reckoned with. They've started making money to pay back their debt, help Gahyeon get RICH and create more comebacks, which could make things even better for them. Of course, in an unstable environment, like the Covid Era, you can't really predict things. Eg the New Year's Eve Festival they were participating in, called Countdown Fantasy 2021-2022, just got cancelled, due to government restrictions. And they could have been going on World Tours by now and become really big in the West, Loona Style. But Covid doesn't allow it, not just yet. The only beef I have with this interesting and well made video is that it keeps creating the perception that Dreamcatcher are *still* very underappreciated in Korea, in 2021. They're not. Not anymore. After the Dystopia Trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye), and Summer Holiday (BEcause), they're now an important Korean idol group with a sizable Korean InSomnia fandom with their talent, chaotic personalities and humanity and if they dodge some more bullets, they can become a big reference point to the K-Pop industry. All that, while still never having won a first win on a show, partly BEcause BTS came back, yet again this last Summer, while DC were also promoting during the Olympics and they had to stop for a week... So we really need an update to this video, to complete their story. I personally believe that their next comeback in the following months should be their most important in their career (Siyeon mentioned recently that she learns some songs that are 'masterpieces', obviously for their next comeback), and it will propel them into becoming really successful and established in Korea and the World. We all want to see Gahyeon getting RICH, don't we?

You hear about these companies treating their groups badly and all that but I'm gonna give credit to Happyface for not only sticking with the girls but making the 200 IQ decision to walk away from Mixnine (we all know how that turned out) and solidify their fanbase. Theres lots of groups with diverse discographies. But as far as I know, Dreamcatcher's is THE MOST DIVERSE discography in kpop right now. They have songs that are rock, pop, edm, ballads, and songs that blends those genres together as well as some others. They also have some of the most powerful choregraphy for modern girl groups and their styling is always AMAZING. They have a different concept than most current groups. The members are all beautiful and fun. I just do not understand why they are not much more popular.
They are the only ones whose music I always consistently return to, after checking out new products from other bands that I also love. But even if I really like it, sooner or later (a week? a month?) this is starting to get boring.. Dreamcatcher - something different, never gets bored
To this day I remain freaking disgusted at The Show for the lack of response to the miscalculations of points, just shows how they don't give a flying crap about the groups and fandoms, they just care about the companies that are paying them more. i saw them on their US tour and damn even with a (probably??) shoestring budget they can put on a show - their strong choreo is a godsend in that respect. plus the great thing about having a rock-forward discography is that it gets everyone jumping around. tbh i‘m not really into the sound of their early eras?? When I first discovered Dreamcatcher, I was questioning why so many people were sleeping on them. Their songs are absolutely incredible. I remember watching Chase Me and jumping out of my chair when I heard rock music because I was so use to pop-y songs lol. Glad they're sticking around. I hope in 2020 they'll get more success!

Fun fact about Dreamcatcher: They have their own website, RUclips Channel and also their own company. Dreamcatcher Company with their parent company is Happy Face Entertainment With Dreamcatcher Company Jiu Sua Siyeon Handong Yoohyeon Dami and Gahyeon are doing solo projects while being committed to the group In December of 2019 they had a USA tour INVITATION TO NIGHTMARE CITY which contain five cities Los Angeles Chicago Dallas Orlando Jersey City. L.A and Jersey City were sold out and Chicago were almost sold out but unfortunately their fanbase in Dallas and Orlando isn't as strong as Los Angeles Chicago and Jersey City. Dreamcatcher USA fanbase donated money for a LED AD in Time Square New York City for their last show. Personal Note: I was lucky enough to see these amazing and talented ladies at their concert in Chicago. The energy from the audience was incredible and intense from the time Dreamcatcher took the stage to the end. Meeting them after the show is a memory I wil never forget. I discovered this group a few weeks ago because I was discovering Kpop with a random Spotify playlist. There was "Scream" between two cute songs from Twice and Red Velvet, I got a bit startled. Now, I'm listening to their songs everyday and bought a ticket for their online concert. I hope they will be more successful in the future, they deserve it.

8 Years later and they've gotten their first music show win, I'm so proud to be in this fandom, they're one of the most insane groups in kpop, literally singing while performing really hard choreography, producing music in a genre not popular in korea.

Honestly You and I promoting at the same time as Fake Love was a huge win tbh. So many new international fans came in and were watching the music shows and got introduced to Dreamcatcher then. CLC and Dreamcatcher's stories are so similar i makes you love their friendship even more. They are in the same forever sailing boat in between notoriety and not. Both had a huge shift in look and music. Happy face has more hope in DC than Cube in CLC.. i mean they even made a separate branch called Dreamcatcher Co. now and the girls STILL haven't gotten their first win. If Cube promoted CLC like Happy Face does DC i promise you they would be so much bigger than they are now. The only thing that "holds DC back" is their music not being so popular in Korea but does well overseas. CLC hasn't been promoted properly. Stan these two groups and give them all your support that you can because they both have worked hard and deserve better.
With Happyface, at least we all know that they are giving it their all for Dreamcatcher. Frequent content and vlives, having their own world tour (I mean they went to Europe and South America for goodness sake), a stable concept and giving them freedom. Basically Dreamcatcher is exceeding relative expectations and they are increasing in popularity. Meanwhile I have a lot of questions for Cube about CLC. No idea why CLC can't go outside of Asia when the girls themselves want to. Maybe this is the year where CLC finally breaks through but time is ticking. But this assumes that Cube actually cares about promoting them.

I don't stan Everglow but I need to bc I've already listen to their full discography and I've fallen in love with it. I can't choose between Adios and Deja vu tbh they're both so freaking good. While I do think Everglow deserves all the wins they've had, so did Dreamcather, and that win for me needed to be theirs (still Adios is a freaking bop). honestly hearing dreamcatcher's music for the first time, specifically scream, literally flipped my world upside down directly on its ass. changed the whole trajectory of my life. they've been one of my ult girl groups ever since, and even tho it took way too long on an unnecessarily rocky road, i am SO happy they finally got the first win they've long deserved. i couldn't be more proud. and even now, about a year after their win, they're still killing the game!
Great content. As a fan, I feel really glad that Dreamcatcher is under Happy Face ent. I mean you sold it : HFE has a great understanding of the streams in the industry. Maybe they don't release songs at the better time, but they keep their idols away from shitstorms, and they manage to extend Dreamcatcher's range in terms of fans, diversity in their projects and so on.
Yeah. I've seen companies debut groups, give them 2-3 comebacks. If it doesn't work out as expected, they just give the group an indefinite hiatus or disbandment itself. It's quite the sad reality... I'm glad HF doesn't do this.
13:32 I dont think Happy Face knew that YG was going to cancel mix nine but they definitely knew the audience rating was really low (1.5% on average and 2.1% at max). So when Happy face annonced dreamcatcher was going on a tour instead of continuing the show, I felt that was the best solution. The fact that the company and ceo is still supporting them so well until today is so amazing. Their promotions, their albums are so high quality, I won't believe it when you say they're from a small company. It just goes to show how a good and caring company no matter how small, can make a group rise to the top. From their staff, producers, choreographers, back up dancers, and ceo, they all have good relationships with Dreamcatcher and it just melts my heart so much.

I've been with Dreamcatcher since their redebut out of the ashes of minx-my husband and i lovingly call them our Spooky Girls and they are a household standard for us-so thank you for this deep dive! There was nothing scarier than that huge ass radio silence that stretched over 6 months. i seriously thought they were gone forever like The Ark, and i was preparing myself to go into a period of mourning when they came back outta nowhere and restored my faith in humanity.
Dreamcatcher is the only girl group that can wash my ears once in a while from all the trendy edm, cutesy or girl crush concepts or music.. so they really stand out in kpop for me... I hope their Scream will win this time! 😭
I literally died at the 'struggle between two ancient gods: one that wants Dreamcatcher to succeed and one that wants to destroy them at all costs.' I think there is some shady industry stuff going down because the industry thrives on convention... and tbh a lot of songwriters and producers are getting lazy af. *If Dreamcatcher succeeds, then they have to step up their game to compete.* Right now, they're expending minimum effort and getting big bucks for it - why would they want that to change? Leez & Ollander (along with some other producers) are starting to make names for themselves by releasing pure bops and I think some of the house producers are getting worried about it. Not only the producers but the songwriters too. And if there's worry on that level, that means that management is also worried about Dreamcatcher - and any other group that goes outside of convention - succeeding. If Dreamcatcher makes it big, now they're going to have to invest way more money and time and effort into their already existing groups and any new groups that may be in the works.
@@plasmakitten4261 Yeah that's what I mean - DC doesn't fit the mold and once that mold is broken and 'different' suddenly isn't a dirty word, other companies are going to be utterly *scrambling* to do something "different" - aka stepping up their game. They're complacent right now - there's a familiarity with the current concepts, they know who to hire for MVs, for production, know what songs to buy, etc, to get the results they want. But if the general public begins to accept 'different' as a good thing... they're going to have to suddenly experiment (and fail) with different people. This is a monetary fear from many companies - they know their investments, expenditures, and returns like the back of their hands, but if they have to start experimenting with something different because it's what's either trendy or what they think the general public wants, they have to be prepared to toss money out of the window and not give up on groups if they don't hit it big almost right out of the gate. Experimentation is risk, and not a lot of companies (like the really big ones) want to take that risk.

In part 2 we have: Handong leaving for China in August of 2019 to go on a Chinese survival show. Her schedule conflicts prevented her participation in Dreamcatcher’s Scream comeback. When the survival show finally ended, Handong was still unable to go back to Korea. Why? Because a global pandemic originating from Handong’s hometown, Wuhan, caused the world to enter quarantine. Handong’s Wuhan passport prevented her from returning because of Korea’s travel ban. Although the travel ban was lifted on the 10th of August, Handong was unable to film or record for the album coming out on the 17th of August. Even if she came back on the 10th, she’ll still have to quarantine for at least 14 days. This means Handong will only be able to participate in the last leg of promotions at best.
Oh, and we still haven’t gotten a first win. Dreamcatcher really have the absolute worst luck.

Maybe not amazing considering how Dreamcatcher’s comebacks always end up happening at the worst time (basically constantly competing against super groups), but they are definitely good. Their CEO had and still has a lot of faith in Dreamcatcher considering the sheer amount of risks he took to make them successful. I can like any group that catches my eye, but I make it a point to only stan/support groups with decent/good companies. Loona, Dreamcatcher, Dreamnote - their companies may not be perfect, but they're better than most. I specifically stopped supporting Blackpink because YG sucks in many ways and wastes their talent. (As in, I'll still listen to their music, but won't go out of my way to stream, buy albums, etc.)

Dreamcatcher is the FIRST underrated group that I've stayed with for so long because they're actually doing pretty well.

Déjà Vu era was really frustrating. From the weird calculations the first week, second week without announcing winner (when they still had a chance to win), then third week where their chances have decreased a lot, and forth week which I didn't even watch cause I was fed up of all this stuff

I honestly felt Minx was too 'generic'. DC however has a different and unique identity, which should have allowed them to stand out but were constantly bogged by the media. Of course, in an unstable environment, like the Covid Era, you can't really predict things. Eg the New Year's Eve Festival they were participating in, called Countdown Fantasy 2021-2022, just got cancelled, due to government restrictions. And they could have been going on World Tours by now and become really big in the West, Loona Style. But Covid doesn't allow it, not just yet.
The only beef I have with this interesting and well made video is that it keeps creating the perception that Dreamcatcher are *still* very underappreciated in Korea, in 2021. They're not. Not anymore. After the Dystopia Trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye), and Summer Holiday (BEcause), they're now an important Korean idol group with a sizable Korean InSomnia fandom with their talent, chaotic personalities and humanity and if they dodge some more bullets, they can become a big reference point to the K-Pop industry. All that, while still never having won a first win on a show, partly BEcause BTS came back, yet again this last Summer, while DC were also promoting during the Olympics and they had to stop for a week... So we really need an update to this video, to complete their story.
I personally believe that their next comeback in the following months should be their most important in their career (Siyeon mentioned recently that she learns some songs that are 'masterpieces', obviously for their next comeback), and it will propel them into becoming really successful and established in Korea and the World. We all want to see Gahyeon getting RICH, don't we?

I think it's because of the LGBT+ kpop fans. Both groups have gorgeous girls and oh look at that I'm gay.
Theres lots of groups with diverse discographies. But as far as I know, Dreamcatcher's is THE MOST DIVERSE discography in kpop right now. They have songs that are rock, pop, edm, ballads, and songs that blends those genres together as well as some others. They also have some of the most powerful choregraphy for modern girl groups and their styling is always AMAZING. They have a different concept than most current groups. The members are all beautiful and fun. I just do not understand why they are not much more popular.
They are the only ones whose music I always consistently return to, after checking out new products from other bands that I also love. But even if I really like it, sooner or later (a week? a month?) this is starting to get boring.. Dreamcatcher - something different, never gets bored

I discovered this group a few weeks ago because I was discovering Kpop with a random Spotify playlist. There was "Scream" between two cute songs from Twice and Red Velvet, I got a bit startled. Now, I'm listening to their songs everyday and bought a ticket for their online concert. I hope they will be more successful in the future, they deserve it.

8 Years later and they've gotten their first music show win, I'm so proud to be in this fandom, they're one of the most insane groups in kpop, literally singing while performing really hard choreography, producing music in a genre not popular in korea.

Honestly You and I promoting at the same time as Fake Love was a huge win tbh. So many new international fans came in and were watching the music shows and got introduced to Dreamcatcher then. CLC and Dreamcatcher's stories are so similar i makes you love their friendship even more. They are in the same forever sailing boat in between notoriety and not. Both had a huge shift in look and music. Happy face has more hope in DC than Cube in CLC.. i mean they even made a separate branch called Dreamcatcher Co. now and the girls STILL haven't gotten their first win. If Cube promoted CLC like Happy Face does DC i promise you they would be so much bigger than they are now. The only thing that "holds DC back" is their music not being so popular in Korea but does well overseas. CLC hasn't been promoted properly. Stan these two groups and give them all your support that you can because they both have worked hard and deserve better.
With Happyface, at least we all know that they are giving it their all for Dreamcatcher. Frequent content and vlives, having their own world tour (I mean they went to Europe and South America for goodness sake), a stable concept and giving them freedom. Basically Dreamcatcher is exceeding relative expectations and they are increasing in popularity. Meanwhile I have a lot of questions for Cube about CLC. No idea why CLC can't go outside of Asia when the girls themselves want to. Maybe this is the year where CLC finally breaks through but time is ticking. But this assumes that Cube actually cares about promoting them.

Good things come to those who wait, and now is the time for some very good things. honestly hearing dreamcatcher's music for the first time, specifically scream, literally flipped my world upside down directly on its ass. changed the whole trajectory of my life. they've been one of my ult girl groups ever since, and even tho it took way too long on an unnecessarily rocky road, i am SO happy they finally got the first win they've long deserved. i couldn't be more proud. and even now, about a year after their win, they're still killing the game!
Great content. As a fan, I feel really glad that Dreamcatcher is under Happy Face ent. I mean you sold it : HFE has a great understanding of the streams in the industry. Maybe they don't release songs at the better time, but they keep their idols away from shitstorms, and they manage to extend Dreamcatcher's range in terms of fans, diversity in their projects and so on.
Yeah. I've seen companies debut groups, give them 2-3 comebacks. If it doesn't work out as expected, they just give the group an indefinite hiatus or disbandment itself.
It's quite the sad reality... I'm glad HF doesn't do this.

I dont think Happy Face knew that YG was going to cancel mix nine but they definitely knew the audience rating was really low (1.5% on average and 2.1% at max).
So when Happy face annonced dreamcatcher was going on a tour instead of continuing the show, I felt that was the best solution. They prefered to secure an already existing fanbase rather than trying to milk a low rating show ^^

The fact that the company and ceo is still supporting them so well until today is so amazing. Their promotions, their albums are so high quality, I won't believe it when you say they're from a small company. It just goes to show how a good and caring company no matter how small, can make a group rise to the top. From their staff, producers, choreographers, back up dancers, and ceo, they all have good relationships with Dreamcatcher and it just melts my heart so much.

I've been with Dreamcatcher since their redebut out of the ashes of minx-my husband and i lovingly call them our Spooky Girls and they are a household standard for us-so thank you for this deep dive! There was nothing scarier than that huge ass radio silence that stretched over 6 months. i seriously thought they were gone forever like The Ark, and i was preparing myself to go into a period of mourning when they came back outta nowhere and restored my faith in humanity.

Dreamcatcher is the only girl group that can wash my ears once in a while from all the trendy edm, cutesy or girl crush concepts or music.. so they really stand out in kpop for me... I hope their Scream will win this time! 😭
I literally died at the 'struggle between two ancient gods: one that wants Dreamcatcher to succeed and one that wants to destroy them at all costs.' I think there is some shady industry stuff going down because the industry thrives on convention... and tbh a lot of songwriters and producers are getting lazy af. *If Dreamcatcher succeeds, then they have to step up their game to compete.* Right now, they're expending minimum effort and getting big bucks for it - why would they want that to change? Leez & Ollander (along with some other producers) are starting to make names for themselves by releasing pure bops and I think some of the house producers are getting worried about it. Not only the producers but the songwriters too. And if there's worry on that level, that means that management is also worried about Dreamcatcher - and any other group that goes outside of convention - succeeding. If Dreamcatcher makes it big, now they're going to have to invest way more money and time and effort into their already existing groups and any new groups that may be in the works.

@@plasmakitten4261 Yeah that's what I mean - DC doesn't fit the mold and once that mold is broken and 'different' suddenly isn't a dirty word, other companies are going to be utterly *scrambling* to do something "different" - aka stepping up their game. They're complacent right now - there's a familiarity with the current concepts, they know who to hire for MVs, for production, know what songs to buy, etc, to get the results they want. But if the general public begins to accept 'different' as a good thing... they're going to have to suddenly experiment (and fail) with different people. This is a monetary fear from many companies - they know their investments, expenditures, and returns like the back of their hands, but if they have to start experimenting with something different because it's what's either trendy or what they think the general public wants, they have to be prepared to toss money out of the window and not give up on groups if they don't hit it big almost right out of the gate. Experimentation is risk, and not a lot of companies (like the really big ones) want to take that risk.
