Love this, because in about 3 or 4 years, we will probably need to buy a home once we decide on a location. This is a fantastic approach to staying out of debt, but still working toward having the home of your dreams. Of course, given our ages and our lack of skills, we would need to hire people to make renovations, but it can be done. Gracias, Karen.
Nice to see you again Karen. Such a good decision. It used to be that way in the usa too. My parents didnt' have a super nice house when they were young. Now young people think they need to have everything instantly that it took their elders a lifetime to build. I hope to visit Hidalgo sometime in the not too distant future. 0:01
Indeed, children today know much better the available posibilities, as they can see how people live almost any where in the world. While they are "busy" at home looking the real or fake lives of others, they are not investing their time & effords needed for their better future, and as their dreams get further and further far away, yhey get more and more addicted to adictions, to the internet, to gamming, to watch movies and series the whole day, to pxrn, etc a lost generation wasting their lives not all of them, of course: some kinds are embracing the new good opportuninties the intermet gaves, and the future is on their shoulder: they are also THE most improved generation EVER
Excelente video! 🎉 I really like how you positioned this as a global-generational issue. In the Chicago area, “house hacking” is common in multi-unit homes. We both grew up homes like that, where a house is split into two separate apartments/levels. As populations grow, real estate space is less but costs more, so for many people, house hacking like this is the only way many can afford to buy a home. I’m so proud of you guys for making this decision 👏🏽😊
Congratulations Karen! I recall you brought your parent's old home, great decision to actually live in it and remodel for significant savings. Plus the benefits of being close to family. Tula looks very nice. I dont care for trendy, I want traditional Mexico (have condo in San Jose Del Cabo, now a magic town, instead of Cabo San Lucas - expensive and tourist trap)
I think you made a wise decision. I also live in Hidalgo (I don't like to say the city/town for safety reasons). I've only been to Tula once to walk around the center and see the archaeological site, but I liked what I saw. You're only a little over 2 hours from CDMX and Querétaro (so am I), which I think is perfect to go for the day if you want/need to.
In the United States, in most states, no one ever actually owns their property, even after the mortgage is paid off, because of ever increasing property taxes each year …
Part of the reason why owning real estate in California isn't as crazy as people make it out to be is that property tax increases here are low thanks to Prop 13...for example, I pay roughly one-third the taxes my friends in other states pay. Combined with historically higher than average appreciation (8-9% per year vs 5% nationally), and owning here is a really good thing in the long run...once one gets past the sticker shock of the first few years!
We own a small lot in Mexico, recently we had water, sewer, and Electricity connected. we are getting ready to build a small 2 bedroom/2 bath condo ... However, what we both REALLY want is a couple acres to grow a large garden and fruit trees on... Where is that possible? I keep hearing the rules about small farms are changing but wondering where to start looking. One of the biggest issues is water for plants and trees... Anyways thank you for sharing your plans it gives me encouragement. :)
May I ask about how much you paid to connect your utilities? I know prices vary by region, lot type etc, but right now I’m trying to get a ballpark estimate. I’m trying to purchase a lot and build. We’re looking in multiple locations (Baja, Jalisco, Yucatán ..)
@@claudiahidrogo7056 We are in Puebla, two hours south of Mexico City. It was very cheap when we bought the property, however it sat vacant for over 20 years and as people built up around the lot, the alley left to connect was more than a block long and the sewer and water lines had to be hand-dug because heavy equipment was no longer allowed. Due to that it cost around $5,000 USD for all of the permits and labor, and pipes and cables for electricity that is an estimate because my husband didn't remember part of it.
Super proud of you both! I was luckily enough to be mortgage free in my 40s (thanks to my parents) and the freedom it has given me has been immeasurable. I’m so looking forward to seeing your video as you take me on a tour of Tula. I was luckily enough to visit your family there Karen and visit the pyramids. Absolutely loved it. Plus the day spent at the hot springs with the wonderful walks in natural. Hopefully, I will visit again and see your new home. The glimpse I’ve seen in photographs show the amazing transformation you have made to the property. Looks of hard work. Lovely to see you, David and your family working together.
Hola Jill ☺️ I still remember when the girls wanted to practice their English with you. Next time you come, we’ll take you to some other cool places we’ll be discovering around.
buy fixer uppers are the best way pay cash do all the work you can yourself ...all house i ever owned i done that maybe not ever fully finished ...but ...no debit
Karencita, congratulations on your first step to becoming wealthy by becoming a homeowner. A home is tangible wealth that appreciates over time whereas as the peso can and does fluctuate over time. I can remember when it was 10 for $1 U.S. Now it is 20 for $1 U.S. Because of housing prices in Mexico increasing so will the value of your house. Not like the peso. There are costs with a house like taxes and property insurance. People who live in rental properties never see this because it is paid by the landlord and added to the price of the rental per month.
how did your parents raise a family without a kitchen ??? your new kitchen looks great! I have simple kitchen, has small stove, added microwave and refrigerator. Inexpensive to buy fresh daily from bakery, mercado, street vendors. Just brew coffee or cook oatmeal.
No, please... stop impoverishing the same Mexicans even more. The last thing they need is foreigners who will increase housing costs even more, just as they did in Mexico City
¡Urrraaaa! Is great to see you! We finally move to Queretaro, your videos helped us take the plunge. Hope to meet you guys sometime in the future. Maybe you can make it to the Gringos R Us meet up in January. Keep up the great work that you have always done.

Moved to Queretaro from Chiapas seven years ago. We live close to my wife's daughters and being a retiree love the medical services.

That's awesome, it's a great start.
Great video Karen ❤
Can't wait to see what you've done with your house and learn more about Hidalgo! 😊
I’m working on that video, the thing is that I’ve been recording for months and now I have a lot of footage. You’ll watch it soon 😀

Me encanta su decisión !! Es lo mejor!!
brings the Buena Vista Social Club song "El Cuarto De Tula" to mind.

😮
Insurance prices are getting insane as well.
I imagine it works the same in most countries probably.
It’s the same in Mexico. My mom owns 2 properties and she has to pay annual property taxes.

Welcome back Karen
Muchas gracias! I wanted to give you a gift on this Thanksgiving Day!
I love this. It’s beautiful approach to building a legacy

You made the best decision God Bless you.
I agree with you that living mortgage free is the way to go. Fix up your house as you go along, less stress for sure. Tula is pretty!
Fixing up a house is yet another type of massive stress as things rarely go according to plan. And you need huge amounts of time.
Me gusta mucho tu contenido y la manera en que editas tus videos.
¿Que camara usas?
Hola Ale, gracias. Uso la cámara canon M50. Estoy viendo tus videos y tus tomas son geniales!

Has visitado Tula?
@@LaKarencitaMX No, solo he visto tus videos en los que Tula aparece. Espero que nos muestres más, por favor.
whats the crime & safety aspect like between Querétaro vs your current location??
The housing in the United States needs changing.
Is there a good hospital and doctors nearby?
