This entire game smells of "focus groups". I can totally see a bunch of corporate guys sitting in a board meeting asking "what do kids like these days?" And some replies being "dinosaurs" and "skateboarding".
Honestly I don't know if 1993 and 1994 was screaming hype over dinosaurs and skateboarding, more like parts of 70s 80s thing mainly in USA too. It took years if not decade+ to actually people give a F about dinosaurs and skateboarding mainly thanks to Jurassic Park 1 and 2 so as Tony Hawks Pro Skater games. It was around 1999 and 2000 when it kicked off really again slowly. I remember more kids in 2005 being interested in skateboarding then any generation before. Besides to prove my point most media failed back in 90s with these themes, it only took very few to pick up the hype. Even this game from the video came and go and I forgot about it for years.
I have only watched the first ten seconds of the main character doing that little dance with that "radical" music in the background. All I can think of is, "How do you do, fellow kids?"
This episode has taught me many things. Those things being the importance of being faithful to your lover, being radical as shit, and doing hallucinogenic mushrooms. No matter how long I live, or how far I go, I shall never forget such wisdom.
Um... Maby you shouldn't do all of that junk that the game grumps taught you you shouldn't get high or get hert Omogies are funny &fun to send people 😇😆😅😄😃😂😁😀😊☺😈😉😯😐😑😕😠😬😡😢😰😩😨😧😦😥😤😣😮😴🍰🍦🍩🍧🍔🍺🍴🍫&no I don't need help I just couldn't deside what emogies to put down

Im from the future. The year 2020. A wild year during a very long backstreet boys reunion tour. I came back to enjoy this because I am a long time lovely and this is the first episode of Game Grumps I ever saw.
I like to think of the 90's as the time when America was between ages 9 and 13. It was all about pizza, dinosaurs, individual wheeled transportation (bikes, skateboards, roller blades), and constantly living in fear of "not being cool". Like an annoying pre-teen. Now it's in in the artistic/avant-garde stage where being obscure is "cool". Oh well, at least it finally realized that nerdiness isn't an illness.
+Dayhund They don't really "die", per se. You just have to kick them while they're burnt to get rid of them. After a while, they'll shake that off if you don't do anything.
Next time you complain about kid's media referencing modern things like rap music, smart phones, dabbing, internet memes, "swag", "YOLO", etc., just remember we were as guilty in our own time periods, and this is proof.
The Lyrics for anyone who is interested in doing a profesional billion dollar production cover of the song. Ra-ra--ra-radical rex Radical, Excelent Awesome, Legendary He's a rad, he's a rad, he's my real cool Radical Rex (Radical Rex) He's a rad, he's a rad, he's my real cool Radical Rex (Radical Rex) He's a rad, he's a rad, he's my real cool Radical rex He's my real cool Radical rex He's my real cool Radical rex (Radical Rex)
Glad I'm watching this 11 years later, so much has changed, so many radical and not so radical things have happened, but the grumps have stayed a solid rock
That intro makes me so glad I only lived in the 90's for four years. I wonder if, in twenty years, we're going to look back on selfies and emojis with the same lack of fondness as stuff like this (rightfully) gets. I sure hope so.
TheAndrewj96 lack of fondness? Selfies and emojis are shameful and never deserved fondness. The 90s and 80s were cheesy but charming. You're proud to be a millennial? Poor bastard.
The KT event (the meteor) is still the predominant theory for the exinction, we know it happened, that's never been in question, the Gulf of Mexico still has the Chicxulub crater to see the evidence.. I mean they never thought it was instantaneous, or that it killed most of life. it definitely affected such a dramatic level of the ecosystem that it had a concerted affect on the niche of most life on earth. it definitely still took a really long time. The question was whether the dust cloud cooled the planet and their lukewarm blood wasn't good for that, leaving only a few left to become birds- or if it was multiple factors. Some other theories were it affected their testicles to fuck up their reproduction, eventually dying out through systematic sterilization. but either way the source cause was the KT event
You are quite right, but its important to mention that there was also an episode of major vulcanism around the same time (I believe it was the Deccan Traps?) that may have played a part in the extinction event as well. The scholarly debate about it is a bit loaded because the creators of the KT meteorite hypothesis have waged a nasty literary war against any opposing view. This doesn’t mean that their hypothesis is incorrect - it is quite clear the Chixculub impactor was the main cultprit for the extinction event. But it does not necesarrily have to be the ONLY thing that contributed to the extinction event.
I was today years old when I found out that the SEGA CD version has lyrics to the opening rap (it's actually sung at a somewhat fast speed like an actual rap): (Radical Rex!) Thing no will care about: Alligators are not dinosaurs. One of the many branch points in the evolution of dinosaurs from lizards occurred with the appearance of the fixed ball and socket joint you see in mammals and birds (and dinosaurs). Alligators have a ball and socket joint which does not fix them in the upright position. Notice that alligators lie flat on their bellies when they are at rest, and must go into the 'push up' position in order to start moving around. This is very tiring, and contributes to the poor endurance of lizards on land. Regarding how all dinosaurs died out; the answer is they didn't REALLY, per se. This game actually looked really cool IMO. I'm with Danny, it's obviously not "one-a 'da greats" but it serves its purpose. It's like an actually-fun Bubsy. Cartoony and zany but actually playable and doesn't scorch your eyes. The different game speeds (skateboard/walking), slides, loops, rope swinging and other mechanics are all neat to see. Considering I've never seen this game until today, I'm pretty impressed.
9:19 Right when Dan said "At least it's fun to look at..." It kicked me from 720p to 144p (bad internet connection or smth) and I almost fkin choked on my laughter xD
You know those games you played as a kid so long ago that all you can do is remember what it was like, but not the name? This was one of those games for me. Thanks for the memories.
The earth is theorized to have undergone polar shifts in the past, where climates, ocean currents and even the equator shifts, doing so could cause drastic dmg to the life on earth, which again in theory could have caused the death of the dinosaurs, and how some species from back then managed to survive, like alligators and even that saber-tooth that was found in that cave, but sadly was killed x.x (yea look it up its crazy) and with that theory in mind we are heading to another shift in the "near" future. which is why we have been having strange weather changes and tons of natural disasters.
Looks like poor Danny is so exposed to bad games, even Radical Rex looks good. It's what I call Battlefield Earth Syndrome, and it's a serious problem.
Oh gosh. Dinosaurs, the music, big cartoony eyes,"RADICAL," skateboards, all that "I'm so cool!" mugging. Hell, that intro just says it all, doesn't it? IT'S A TIME CAPSULE. Funny to hear you say that, though. I remember when I was a kid the meteor theory was still kind of new, and you'd still see a lot of "Scientists aren't SURE, but it was probably climate change, though some people are talking about a meteor..." And then it became "A METEOR DID IT. WE WERE THERE." And now it's weather again.
When you look at him Radical Rex look Worriedly happy, his eyes have that worried look but he keeps his smile to stay positive about the situation he's in.

Facts
Ten things that make Radical Rex stand above most other dinosaurs:
1 - Breathe fire
2 - Jump kick
3 - Skateboard
4 - Do cartoony reactions
5 - Have huge Disney eyes
6 - Reach things with his enormous, not at all vestigial arms
7 - Taunt the audience
8 - Piss Arin off beyond believe
9 - Disappoint everybody
10 - Send you into a kidney stone induced rage
I love that they were casually throwing things back and forth but still managed to stop exactly at 10
bonus number 11 - Completely disappear off the face of the earth the second the nineties were over
This game is so 90's it hurts.
It’s bad it’s bad it horribly 90s Rex
This entire game smells of "focus groups". I can totally see a bunch of corporate guys sitting in a board meeting asking "what do kids like these days?" And some replies being "dinosaurs" and "skateboarding".
I mean yeah…
This game is the 90's game equivalent of "We have invented a brand new crypto currency, get it now while the value is still low!"

It sure did some strange things, like any game past sonic adventure except sonic generations

Kiernan Howell-MacKinley those fucking legs man 😥
That theme does slap though, ngl
The theme is good though.
The funniest part is knowing that Danny and Arin were watching that beginning and I love to imagine what their faces are. Lol
They just have faces of pure *WTF.*
This episode has taught me many things. Those things being the importance of being faithful to your lover, being radical as shit, and doing hallucinogenic mushrooms. No matter how long I live, or how far I go, I shall never forget such wisdom.

Clifford I'd go with "radness"
Clifford Why are you orange.
I can't stop watching this dance number at the very beginning.

Hes a game grump so hes a moron that obviously knows little to nothing about dinosaurs (or much of anything else for that matter)

So wierd.
I love how they stay silent for the intro.
Just to let you take it all in.

I just want it to be known that "radical rex" has become part of my daily lingo, and I revisit this video to honor the original Radical Rex
I love at the last moment before the final death he looks up at the wasp right as it stabs him.
fun fact Nintendo power gave this game a 4.5 out f 5
Well back then most games were considered shitty
+Gamertron 9000 *not
It deserves that score, in fact it deserves a 4.8 out of 5
+Gamertron 9000 this game is not shitty, it's mediocre as fuck, but not shitty.
Here comes the jump kick!

I'd like to imagine that's what Commander Shepard sings in his head when he talks to Wrex.
9:54
TELL ME that isn't the face of one who actively goes "My Caruba!"
Dan ALMOST tells you dinosaur facts for 15 minutes.
Not gonna lie. Read the title as radical sex for a short second.
What kind of children's game is that?
Or, scratch that, just game.
They were so quiet during the intro, I had to check if I actually was watching a Game Grumps video.. 😂😂
One could say he's.. Filled with DETERMINATION...
Buh Dum Tss FUTURE JOKES!
No fuck off
+DrenkrodNosmirc217 damn right
Can we just admire how in a game where the goal is to move right, Arin immediately moves left and keeps going?
I think you alienated and offended your entire dinosaur demographic.
I was today years old when I found out that the SEGA CD version has lyrics to the opening rap (it's actually sung at a somewhat fast speed like an actual rap):
(Radical Rex!)
In a burst of fire
Rex is on the scene
Packing one mean flame
And an awesome scream
Fly'n' across the world
On his mean skateboard
He's the coolest dino dude
Who ever scored!
For his friends Rex ran
He crossed the land
And he'll save the whole race
With a single hand*
So to all the bad dinosaurs
You best beware
Rex's on the loose
Kicking derriere
He's a rad, he's a rad
He's my real cool radical Rex
He's a rad, he's a rad
He's my real cool radical Rex
He's a rad, he's a rad
He's my real cool radical Rex
He's my real cool radical Rex
He's my real cool radical Rex
(Radical Rex!)
*[Rex waves his hand]
In Australia, gooch means taint :3
that's because that's what gooch means, they were wrong
I can just imagine the huge, baffled smiles on Danny and Arin's faces in the intro as they stare and listen in delight/horror/utter confusion.
Radical Rex has gone... TOTALLY RAD!!
"I guess I'm just tubular"
Danny always brings the classiness to the Grump jokes.
Radical Rex is gonna give it to yah.
For such an elaborate introduction, you'd expect the main character to look like more than just a generic brown dino character lmao
Thing no will care about: Alligators are not dinosaurs. The largest dinosaurs died when food and sunlight became scarce with the yucatan meteor crash, but birds are by most evolutionary theories an evolutionary offshoot of dinosaurs. This is an oversimplification, but there is tons of literature on this out there. Here's a very user friendly website :www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/diapsids/dinomm.html . Thanks UCMP.
They should've played the Sega CD version where some dude actually raps the opening song.
This game is so stupid, but it's just the right KIND of stupid that you can't help but smile at.
i would have definitely played this as a kid if i'd known about it LOL and probably look back at it with nostalgia
I love how there was just dead silence in the beginning.
"infinite fire breath"
do you not see the red ammo gauge on the top right?
12:39 is my motto in life.
"I've been bone zoned." [MEGALOVANIA plays softly]
Nop
Please no.
+DrenkrodNosmirc217 leave PLEASE
I heard the dinosaurs died in a laser fight in space with sharks
ALSO CROCODILIANS AREN'T DINOSAURS. Crocodylomorphs and dinosaurs are both archosaurs, and they are distantly related, but they're not the same thing. Hell, pterosaurs are closer to being dinosaurs than alligators are!
I was scared it was going to be 15 minutes and 28 seconds of that song at the start.
Oh yeah, putting some pink and bows on your "girl" dinos while talking about being radical.
I had a dream last night that someone rebooted radical rex and it had a sick kind of power metal remix
Radical Rex,The Pimp of the Stone Age
This game actually looked really cool IMO. I'm with Danny, it's obviously not "one-a 'da greats" but it serves its purpose. It's like an actually-fun Bubsy. Cartoony and zany but actually playable and doesn't scorch your eyes.
The different game speeds (skateboard/walking), slides, loops, rope swinging and other mechanics are all neat to see. Considering I've never seen this game until today, I'm pretty impressed.
The opening song at the beginning is still better than anything Nicki Minaj can come up with.
I'm working on something, while a playlist loads this. I don't see anything but I do hear "Radical Rex!" And I just said out loud, "No."
FORGET SHREK RADICAL REX ALL THE WAY!
9:19 Right when Dan said "At least it's fun to look at..." It kicked me from 720p to 144p (bad internet connection or smth) and I almost fkin choked on my laughter xD
That intro though
I had forgotten ENTIRELY about this game! This really made my day
Intro...I thought somebody laced my acid
"You can't kill anything with your fire breath, just toast it a little." *ignore intro where you kick toasted enemies to break them*
in this video, danny and arin talk about the game, rude words and dinosaur AIDS.
Whaaaat? NO.
You know those games you played as a kid so long ago that all you can do is remember what it was like, but not the name? This was one of those games for me. Thanks for the memories.
Now I want to make a game that the character gives the screen the middle finger every time they get hit. Does that exist?
Pugsley's scavenger hunt gives the middle finger everytime he dies.
Viewtiful Joe gives two flip offs on the box and during certain poses.
13:22 to end My favorite part. XD
Wait, I looked it up but I didn't see anything about a Sabre-Tooth cat found in a cave.
thecryptozoologist.webs.com/apps/blog/show/22034867-have-sabertooth-cats-survived-into-the-present a long read but gives you an idea xP
8:54 Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohh.........
:D best reaction so far.
Maybe the story describes why there are skateboards and stuff
Oh my god. I had completely forgotten about this game. Very suddenly flashbacks.
Ever put a peanut butter pretzel in your mouth, then consumed it with lemonade? It's delicious.
CoffeeNinjaderp Amazing advice from an amazing channel!
Got to be the best intro to any Grumps ever.
Looks like poor Danny is so exposed to bad games, even Radical Rex looks good. It's what I call Battlefield Earth Syndrome, and it's a serious problem.
Patch Reed I call it call of duty syndrome
I can't even begin to explain how much I love the fact that Dan knows so much about dinosaurs. So much respect.
Aw yes, look at Rex's climb, it is sexy, put it to music
I have no idea why video game intros like that never took off
i get to much of a Bubsy Bobcat vibe from this game... it's making me uncomfortable.
Even his animation when not moving is the same.
I get even more of it than I do from actual Bubsy. I never thought that was possible.
roboninja saur totally, it's like nauseating and hard to look at
spiritual twins they are
roboninja saur what could PAWSIBLY go wrong?
The most radical Dino of all is the Dino who loves and protects those he loves.
anyone else think someone needs to remix the intro to this game?
This game actually looks pretty damn good. If it wasn't so dated it could've probably ended up being an underlooked classic or something...
the game doesnt suck, its just childish.
well, maybe its time the little tykes stopped sucking at video games, grew up, and started being good at video games.
***** You're right, git gud toddlers.
ohai.
haiiii
hai chase.
Fuckass is another fun insult
Assmaster is my personal favorite.
The first 30 seconds just says it all. No commentary is needed and an interlude of silence is given to allow the pure radical epicness sink in.
Could Ninja Sex Party make a song about Dinosaur Aids Awareness Day?
8:27 I was trying to come up with a voice for that, but Dan did it far better than I could.
#3Radical5Me
When you look at him Radical Rex look Worriedly happy, his eyes have that worried look but he keeps his smile to stay positive about the situation he's in.
