The Contra composers? Hidenori Maezawa still works as a music composer in movies, pachinko machines and other stuff. As for Kiyohiro Sada, he lives happily in Tokyo too and still does music and uploads it to his personal website.

It was actually called "Gryzor" in Oceania, and Probotector in Europe, which is where the main characters are replaced with robots.
I think the only reason we kept the characters as we know them in Contra, was either Aliens...or the image of Rambo still sorta swimming in people's heads.

I always used to wonder why the aliens were primarily football players. Especially that one boss who had spiked shoulder pads, because your reward for beating him was that you got to go inside a jukebox. And inside that jukebox was a factory with cardboard walls. Sometimes though the walls were giant combs. The final level looks like macaroni and shrimp. Seriously.

The game is called Gryzor on European computer systems like the Commodore 64, and Probotector on the NES, which replaces the main characters with robots because German law didn't want people killing people in video games at the time. Contra 3 is called Super Probotector over here and possibly my favourite game of all time. Maybe you guys could give Contra 3 a spin someday.

The combination of Dan knowing every nook and cranny of this game and Arin supplying little interesting tidbits about transparencies and object limits and stuff makes this an extremely enjoyable playthrough. And the little bits where they sing along with the soundtrack is what really makes it quintessential Game Grumps.

I don't disagree. The Contra blokes are little more than action archetypes. That has its charm, but the robots have a more distinct look for sure. My favorite Contra character is definitely Browny from Hard Corps, though. _So_ much fun to play as, and adorable to boot.

I just calculated. Even if Danny was playing without the code, he would've still made it to Stage 7 before losing all his continues, which on 2 player mode is still very impressive. James and Mike from cinemassacre couldn't even get that far, so it just goes to show how good Danny is at Contra.

I was just thinking about all the shit that went down with Pokémon Sword and Shield and how it's the newest installment for the biggest franchise in the world, yet its graphics are worse than 2 year older games on the same platform.
And to top it all off, Gamefreak especially mentioned how they're removing over half the Pokémon to improve the graphics.
In this case, would you still consider all the complaints the same as "complaining about shit that doesn't matter" ?
(bearing in mind that PokeSwSh is effectively 80$ spent on a worse experience compared to older and cheaper games)

Paulgami It's just one, and there aren't many examples like this in the world, all I know is that traffic lights such as this one seem to work well and have fewer accidents. I'm not going to scour the internet in order to find you proof, believe it if you want, if not, whatever.
What you're describing is how stop signs instead of lights create fewer accidents but slow traffic. No signs on an intersection is death. But lights are faster but cause more accidents.

If you us an NES Four Score multitap, you can turn on turbo fire for either button for a regular controller. It's very helpful because you don't have to jam your thumb on the 'B' button to rapid-fire. It also adds 6 feet of cable length. You can usually find them used for $10, like I did. It's an accessory that no NES owner should be without.

13:23 IIRC bowser from the original SMB had no black on his sprite, his wristbands were just transparent and his background was black; which is why he appears to have one more colour than the nes apparently allowed per sprite
of course the all stars remake made use of the snes larger colour palette and gave the castle a proper background and gave bowser actual black on his sprite
(Not)Surprisingly, not a lot of people know what (R) does.
Its because the difference is so minute.
R stands for Rapid, it makes player bullets travel faster, it doesn't downgrade back to Normal shots, it makes your shots travel faster.
The shots traveling faster makes it leave the screen faster, therefore making it so that you can shoot more often.

It's funny, all these old classic NES/2D Platformers that I'm terrible at Dan and Arin are great at, but should Arin play a 3D platformer like Mario 64 (which I didn't find all that hard) arin just does horribly at.

I own and have beaten Contra on multiple occasions... and there's a few things I'd like to say about it:
1) I never thought "F" was "Fireball" or "Flamethrower" either. My friends and I just called it the "Funny Gun". Fortunately, the weapon is FAR better in Super C.
2) Laser is actually pretty effective in a few ways. First off, one full laser hit is the same as 6 bullets hitting rapid fire. Second, rapidly tapping fire keeps the weapon close, kind of like a laser sword, great for semi-melee.
It's amazing how much a difference a good partner makes in this game. Dan fucking rocked this shit.

In my country there are some sets of traffic light that don't have red, just Green and Amber(yellow/orange). Green means go and amber means go slowly and give way to pedestrians. Also, in some other countries they don't have orange, the Red/Green lights flash to show when they are going to change.
F is for Flamethrower, S is for Shotgun, L is for Laser, R is for Rapid.
Well, Gryzor was the title of the arcade Contra game in Europe, but it still had Bill and Lance.
The NES version with the robots was called Probotector.
Its called Probotector in PAL regions (where everyone's a robot). Gryzor is the Japanese version and it is the definitive version of Contra with animated backgrounds, weather effects, cutscenes (yes, I said cutscenes) and other cool stuff.
red means stop, green means go, yellow means "I CAN MAKE IT"
