The reason the crowd celebrated so voraciously was not because they considered Ponting as the pantomime villain but the fact that he was so unbelievably good. Ponting's wicket was absolute gold dust for any team and this was smack dab when Ponting was in his pomp (2002-07)
To be fair McGrath getting injured is the only reason why England won, he was a monster and the series wouldn’t of been close if he played the rest of the series.
@Roy 3:16 think espncricinfo and it's information base of the series would disagree. McGrath played in 1/3/5 - an aus win and two draws. England won the games he didn't take part in, which makes @butiz comment spot on viable.
@@woodywoodpecker1984 The way I hear it, there was a palpable sense of "hey lads, we can win this one" in the England camp after Pidge trod on a loose ball during morning warmups at Edgbaston. Somehow I don't think they'd have scored 400 at 5/over on day 1 if he'd been fit to play.
The only time in the history of cricket when ENG dominated the Auses just because of two players first Flintoff and the second one is Kevin Pietersen...
Oh plus those weren’t the only good players - Strauss had a brilliant series with Trescothick, Geriant Jones was brilliant behind the stumps, and Harmison and Simon Jones bowled really well

Australian cricketers talking about spirit of the game is like Osama Bin Laden giving out a peace message to the world!

McGrath played 3 games. Australia won just 1. Hung on for a draw in one, and pieterson took the game away in 5th test

Scorpio xee the only time? Someone clearly doesn’t follow cricket...
Saoirse del Tufo . Statistics won't need following ...
Scorpio xee they’ve dominated Australia multiple times this century (e.g. 2009 in Oz), and a hell of a lot of times last century

Saoirse del Tufo . There is big difference between winning and dominating.
You’re missing the first innings at lords, Caught by Strauss off harmison if I remember correctly
