From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. There's about a year of finding out how I could build a thickness gauge, I came out with a not so bad idea, but now that I see it, it makes a lot of sense...thank you so much. Ben

Very impressed! I hope your able to build the most delicious Cremona. Copy the world has ever seen or heard. I BUILT A BRIDGE FOOT RUBBING IN TOOL BACK IN THE LATE 80S OR 90S. IT WAS FROM BASIC STRING REPARES BY BERGMAN. I BUILT IT OUT OF OAK. I WAS VERY PROUD OF IT AND IT WORKED WELL. YOUR TOOL REMINDS ME OF THAT BRIDGE RUBBING JIG I BUILT BACK THEN. I WOULD LOVE AND I AM SURE I WOULD BE GOOD AT IT BUT I DONT HAVE THE WORK SHOP AND BENCH AND TOOLS TO BUILD AN ENTIRE VIOLIN. I WOULD RATHER PLAY A VIOLIN WELL THAN MAKE A VIOLIN. ACTUALLY I WOULD RATHER DO BOTH. I AM CONTENT WITH CARVING BRIDGE BLANKS TO MR.DAVIDE SOLA SPECIFICATIONS IN CREMONA. I BELIEVE HE IS THE FOREMOST EXPERT ON BRIDGE CARVING POSSIBLY IN THE WORLD. I TRY TO COPY AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE HIS TECHNIQUE. I DONT HOWEVER HOLD WITH USING AN AWL TO PUNCH BRIDGE MARKING POSITIONS ON THE BELLY. I WOULD THINK THAT WOULD INVITE SPLITS FROM F HOLE DOWN THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES OF THE TOP. IT MAY BE VERY EXPEDIENT AND WORK WELL FOR HIM BUT I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW VIOLIN EVERY TIME I MAKE A MISSTAKE MARKING A BRIDGE FOOT. I USE A METRIC TAPE MEASURE AND GO 328MM FROM EDGE OF NUT TO FRNT EDGE OF BRIDGE. THEN I APPROXIMATE FOOT POSITION IN RELATION TO FIRST NICK ON LEFT SIDE OF INSTRUMENT. THAT WORKS WELL FOR ME. THEN I RUB THE BOW BEHIND THE D STRING INBACK OF THE BRIDGE TO GIVE F SHARP. CURRENTLY I DO NOT HAVE IT EXACT BUT F SHARP DOES APPEAR ON MY METER AT SOME POINT. THAT WAY I CAN SEE IF I HAVE MY AFTERLENTH CORRECT. THE OTHER DAY I WAS PLAYING ABBAS THE VISITORS. I WAS AMAZED AT THE BEAUTIFUL HARMONICS, AND I DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO STOP THEM WITH MY FINGERS. THEY WERE JUST THERE POPPING OUT LIKE RAINBOWS. ONE OF THESE DAYS I WILL BOW F# AND IT WILL BE CENTERED ON THE METER BUT SO FAR IM ONLY IN THE BALL PARK. IT MAY SOUND LIKE.A LOT OF FUSSING AROUND BUT I THINK IT.HAS BEEN WORTH IT. THANKS FOR SHOWING YOUR DEPTH GAUGE FOR CARVING VIOLINS IT WAS FASTENATING! NOW DID Stadivari use this design or was it used by Amati or just other Cremona Builders after Stradivari died or was this a golden period instrument? Thanks for any info. Bye!
