The F14 has my heart, but if I had to pick a ride-or-die aircraft, and I couldn't pick an F22, it'd be the F15EX. Incredible radar, incredible power, can limp it home missing one wing....I freakin adore this airplane.
When he said "stolen.... or, eh, borrowed" I couldn't help picture a crew chief scratching his head while looking at an F-18 with it's rudders missing.
I think the thing that catches my attention most about this is how most videos with the F22 is just a series of summary executions reformatted to be a slam-dunk competition. All of these fly-outs were actually hard fights that allowed substantially longer time-in-mission than I'd have guessed at.
The production variant is called the F-22. Stealth, super cruise, its the whole 9 yards and then some. I will admit though that F-15 does look good with some upgrades.
@@loganproksch9305 f-22 is pretty much an eagle it followed the same concepts...... giant f'ing wings and the most powerful engines in the world for the time, just less hardpoints and the drawbacks of stealth.
I'm starting to wonder if the 9x looping has something to do with launch speed. These super-maneuverable dogfights are getting slower and slower, and we are seeing more and more 9x loop kills.

An Interesting way to look at it would be to realize that every f22 victory in this is still an f15 active victory as everything the active was built for to do was to demonstrate the tech to make the f22. The f22 is the success story of the f15 active. This fight really is the father seeing the son grow past what the father ever was and being extremely proud of rhat
@@angrydragon4574 it's really just an export (and earlier) version of the EX, giving it a far superior engine and better avionics than the old C or E models. I hear that at airshows (the QA, not sure if any airshows with the EX have shown such maneuvers), it's been pulling off maneuvers you'd normally see from supermaneuverable jets. So while yes, not as impressive as the STOL/MTD, it's an improved eagle that's an actual production model.
Awesome video. I really appreciate the mini-doc in the beginning. The upgraded F-15 is particularly interesting. McDonnell Douglas did offer up an upgraded Eagle , the F-15XX, which used most of the F-15SMTD technology. USAF, didn't bite. They wanted nothing that would threaten ATF.

I love these types of videos that are historical hypotheticals. I find the little history lesson really fascinating and you should do more stuff with experimental aircraft like this.
That bit of info at the beginning was a great touch. I love to learn about the US planes and development, couple that with the excellent skills in your video's and you have an amazing video all round. I really love that F22, I wonder how much the F15 stol/mtd influenced the manoeuvrability of the Raptor.

IMHO, the Soviets only wanted to show that they can make a very deadly dogfighter and super maneuverability was an edge rather usage. Unless the Bogey wasn't paying attention.
One must also give credit to Rockwell X-31 vector thrust experimental plane that helped established the advantages and wear the full control thrust vector nozzle were developed.

I've talked to the people who worked on the F-15 ACTIVE (when the STOL/MTD got 3-D TVC). I asked if they upgraded the motors to F100-PW-129s, they smiled and said "bigger". I commented about the massive Hornet-Tal of a canard coupled with the TVC as giving them some pretty amazing potential to which they replied "It'll beat up on the Raptor all day in close"

I think it's a combination of slow speed and how close they are. They're SO close the 9x not only has energy to loop it's actually still under power.😮

There’s a good reason they ditched all the 3d vectoring and canards for a reason. Other countries are just now following behind our developments
It's a cost benefit- if you build for mass combat, individual performance doesn't matter as much.

Super maneuverability might not be useful in BVR or missile fights, but, maybe when it gets up close and the guns come out, might give you an edge?
