After watching this video i bought a cast iron dutch oven and cooked the ribs today. MAN, they were tender. My first time cooking in a DO. We live in SC and it was pretty chilly today for us 48F but they came out just like yours. Thanks
That is awesome, I'm glad that they turned out good for you. I hope that you enjoy dutch oven cooking, it is amazing how many great recipes you can do. Have a wonderful time with it.
Looks good. I might try this this weekend. Keep your baster upright and the liquid won't shoot out. When you tilt it, air has a chance to displace the liquid.
Thank you very much for watching. The onions not only keep things from sticking but they also add a lot of flavor to the dish. I hope that you have a wonderful day.
Good video. Country Style Ribs always a favorite. I could feast on those onions. The Cabela's seasoning sounded good. Glad the weather is giving you some relief. Hope your wife feels better soon. Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing. 😎.
I JUST bought one of these 2 days ago, to use on my outdoors cement cinder block rocket stove. And then I find your video. Thanks so much for making it. I've used cast iron for 55 years, and never realized onions kept things from sticking. I had always added the onions later. Not anymore. Old dogs CAN learn new tricks.
I'm very glad that you found my video helpful. I fell in love with cast iron as a little kid helping my grandfather in his hunting camp kitchen. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
I learned this too from his channel! Great info for sure. I just uploaded my very first recipe and I got plenty more coming as well as a lot more to learn!
I'm going to buy me a cheap Dutch oven just like yours I never cook country style ribs because I didn't know how but one onion barbecue sauce season in country style ribs what a complete dinner with some baked beans thank you Dan
You are just down the road from me. Great to hear from a fellow Hoosier. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and hope that if you try it you like it. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
We used the dutch oven for the first time to prepare the New Year's Eve dinner. We used your recipe but replaced the spice powder with freshly grounded black pepper because we could not find it in the supermarkets near us. Regardless, the ribs were hit. There was none left when the dinner was over. Thank you for this simple but wonderful recipe. 👍👏
Do all my cooking with cast iron, but never had a dutch oven till now. You made this look super simple, so I think this is going to be my first cook. Thank you.
Country style ribs are extremely easy and very forgiving. If you try this I believe that you will be very pleased. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. I'm not sure why people are scared of dutch oven cooking, it's so forgiving that anyone can learn. The lid lifter definitely makes it easier.
Can’t get more simple than that! Looks great I’m going to have to pick me up some ribs soon and try this. Never thought about the onion idea. Good info
I glad you enjoyed it. I use onions on the bottom of my dutch oven a lot to keep the meat off the bottom, it helps to keep it from burning or sticking. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
Thank you very much. If you think that it's something that you are going to do often I'd spend the money on a Lodge or Camp Chef. If you watch my review on the Ozark Trail you will see what I don't like about it. But with that being said for $20 it will get you cooking. Hope that you have a wonderful day.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. The onions on the bottom help keep the ribs off the bottom of the DO and add tons of flavor. I hope that you have a wonderful week.
Oh my goodness, you had me at country style pork ribs. 😍 Yes, onions are the best parchment paper. Your food always look delicious Dan, thank you for sharing your recipes with us. Blessings to you, hope your weekend is beautiful.

Occasionally I hold my plate like that, with one hand against my chest when I'm trying to use the other hand to take care of something else for a short moment. It's not to difficult, but keeping it balanced is not super easy. Helps to do these things often. I'm not a fan of things like ribs, steak, etc, but I'm gonna see what else you got for videos. This one was pretty good.
Squeeze the baster outside of the liquid. Insert tip halfway into the liquid release baster bulb to suck up the fat. Take the baster out of the pan straight up do not tilt it or the liquid will shoot out like it did. Keeping it straight up will allow it to "hold" the liquid a little longer while you transfer it to a bowl.
Haven't even finished the video and wondering why no lump charcoal? I guess briquettes are easier to measure heat to amount... but still... can't wait to finish this out and see how it turns out. Btw, sweet baby ray's sweet and spicy all the way with pork or ribs any day. 😄
In my videos I use briquettes because it is easier to explain how I get the dutch oven to a certain temperature. When we are camping or just out by the fire pit I use the coals and logs from the fire. I really like the Sweet Baby Ray's, we use it a lot. Thank you very much for watching my video and commenting.
I always cook country style ribs for over an hour around 300 give or take. Bone in chicken thighs take about 35 minutes at 350, so I'd put the chicken in about half way into the cook and everything should be done when the chicken gets over 165. Thank you very much for watching.
you aren't supposed to tilt the baster when you pull it out. It cause air to pass through releasing the liquid. Hold it straight up and down and less liquid will come out while transferring it to a bowl.
Dan, awesome video sir. I really enjoyed it. I just started cooking with a Le Creuset that my mom gave me that she doesn't use anymore. I love how moist and fall off the bone everything comes out. Dan I am dumbfounded. Fat is flavor.... Eating fat is directly turned into energy. Are you removing the fat to make room for the sauce? I do a lot of BBQ cooking. Dont flip the baster and most of the liquid will stay in the baster.

Squeeze the air out of the turkey baster before you insert it into the liquid.
Thank you very much, I ended up spooning it out lol. Great advice for my next cook. I hope you have a great day.
Hey Dan, everything looks good a dulish. But you never mix the word "liberal" with cooking!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Dan I am dumbfounded. Fat is flavor.... Eating fat is directly turned into energy. Are you removing the fat to make room for the sauce? I do a lot of BBQ cooking. Dont flip the baster and most of the liquid will stay in the baster.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Let's see you clean it
