Today I decided to make myself a little thrifted mystery box for the aesthetic Whimsigoth! Usually I will buy an aesthetic mystery box from Depop, but I always end up only liking 1 or 2 things so I decided to make my own! I love stepping outside my comfort zone and trying new styles so in this video we are tackling the whimsigoth aesthetic! "The Whimsigoth aesthetic is reflected in fashion with velvet, lace, sheer fabrics, flowy sleeves, and celestial-themed jewelry". I definitely went more the 90's route with this aesthetic, but there's a lot of 70's influences on the way people dress.

I’ve seen so many TikToks about people dying clothes they don’t wear as often to either black or another color and the results are really good!! I’d try that out if you see something you like but just want it in a darker color!

I’ve been doing that for a few years. The darkest colours come out the most even, just remember to use two boxes. The colours sometimes come out with a mottled, tie dye effect, but I actually love it. You can also remember your colour wheel and layer colour on pre-existing colour to get a colour you want. For example, I used a box of navy to adjust green to the right shade.

I love watching you decide what to get and what to leave behind. A possible issue I’ve heard discussed about thrift shopping becoming trendy is that it takes away from the people that shop there out of necessity, so I absolutely loved hearing you say things like “I’m not going to buy them all” or “Gotta put this back where I found it”.
I really love your channel, and watching you be so intentional about what you buy is so refreshing!!!!

i appreciate this comment! @shanspeare has a great video on this topic, particularly thrift hauls / thrift flips for profit. i’m new to this channel but i feel alexa is so conscious about varying levels of sustainability and waste which she shows in videos like this where she talks through why she isn’t buying things she does like but wont get enough use. it’s such a great frame of mind and mental process before purchasing for thrifting or (if not especially) traditional retail.

I think you did a fantastic job of aligning your choices with the core of your personal style/aesthetic! I know you said in your decluttering video that you’re feeling confused about how you’d currently define your personal style, but your reasons behind choosing what you decluttered/kept that day, along with your reasons behind what you did/didn’t purchase today, really show that you DO understand your personal style (at least to a greater extent than what you give yourself credit for!). 😊 I get that it might feel like your personal style could feel a bit buried and not fully realized anymore, but we all get “lost” from time to time, and it comes at no surprise, given all the ongoing sources of influence/ideas we are frequently exposed to! 🫠
Love and appreciate this and you! (And all of your videos!) 😊

The whimsigoth trend finally has me inspired for fall. It's extremely nostalgic for me (this was somewhat my style as a teen in the late 90s/early 00s). Major memories of Pyramid Collection catalogues. The interior design style especially takes me back. Millenials and older, also look up Renaissance Revival for another blast from the past.

Alexa, in a previous video you mentioned a comment calling you BASIC ( because you didn’t like the Y2K style), and I must admit, I used to think the same (b4 i started rlly watching ur channel) .
The truth is that whilst your thumbnail and editing a skills seem fresh, you still have SOMEWHAT of a tumblr - ish aesthetic. 2010s (some ppl might say "2010s basic white girl"). Even though there is many trend eras/ aesthetics that are on trend nowadays, one of the most hated style eras for many people (including me) are the 2010s. I have a theory about this: Whatever era one was in when they were an insecure teenager with body issues, yet had to dress according to the to the regime of mainstream fashion to fit to peer pressure, will (prob forever) remain to be their most hated style.😅(I am now 24).
BUT HERES THE THING !! You are NOT basic, even if you like to draw inspiration from the 90s inspired 2010s -(aka what the popular girls wore when most gen-z kids were in their early teens, who now draw inspiration from Y2k). You stick to what you like even though it is "outdated". You clearly have a style and express it, but more than that you are open minded . You are FAR from basic. Your "styling outdated trends" video highly impressed me. You have an exceptional talent to style clothing with an eye for combinations, material, length, color and fit. Even trends that are reminiscent to my darkest times and which I used to hate the most --you style them in an inspiring and fresh way💖 \THIS is why i follow you 😊
    Keep going! - sincerely, a Y2k lover.☀

Have you considered doing a video of making an outfit that encapsulates each of the different kibbe type rules? I think it could be fun and you could do it using clothes you already have :)
