I mean he could just be putting a happy face to look good, he probably isnt 100% on board with the idea of him on the team, but can see that he could change his mind about it and that Bastion is a valuable asset to the team
It's not within a matter of these two cutscenes, there's a whole mission in between. Every step of the way is a chance for Bastion to prove either he's a threat or a companion, which is what allows Reinhardt to trust him.
For starters, this isn’t just an animatic like most others, this is a cutscene from the video game itself, from one of their missions. From these 2 clips, you only see the start and the end, with the middle being the gameplay itself. Secondly, Rein is a warrior and knight first and foremost, which is why his first instinct was to go on the offensive and put himself in front of bastion when they first meet. This applies to every aspect of being a warrior and knight, and in those times blood was way thicker than water, meaning that they formed bonds and friendships with the people they fought in battle with, and in the mission Bastion is there risking its own life to fight off against its own kind to protect Torb because Torb helped him, and protected Rein too. Third, it’s a video game with no story mode (which is part of why I stopped playing it), meaning that they can’t do multiple arcs to push that trust over a long period of time, so movie and video game shortcuts is that you do so in a moment, where lives are on the line and stakes are at an all time high. In the end, I could see Rein opening up more to bastion after it proved itself in combat. Now I do agree that some lines were corny and that he was too buddy buddy with it, but I feel that it’s reasonable that Rein at least trusts bastion to some degree now.
Seems like rein did that thing where you hide how you feel because you don't want to hurt the few people left in your life. Basically "I lost almost everything to them. All that's left is you. I can at least be civil with the robot" Also i believe bastion helped fight alongside rein to save the place. might be why rein was cool with bas in the end
Yeah that's exactly what happened. These cutscenes are at the start and end of one of story missions. In the gameplay Bastion fights alongside Rein, Torb and Brig to protect Torbs workshop. Rein comes to respect bastion because Bastion risked his life fighting his own kind to protect the people they both care about.

Oh and the brand new vanity project the Karla Tower is missing, though I'd chalk that up to the tower not being fully finished when this stuff was added to the game.
People are saying that it makes sense Rein attacks him because his friends and family died to his kind, and that makes sense. But Bastion himself has PTSD because you killed *his* kind and now he’s just seen as a threat. So, I’m on both sides here.
Bastions' PTSD is legitimately programmed into him. In his Cinematic for OW1, Bastion goes ballistic at just hearing sounds of what it thinks is gunfire and thus levels an entire forest. Torbjorn is flat out stupid for not warning Rein that a E54 unit is in his possession and is being 'rehabilitated'. I’m kinda surprised that Bastion didn’t have flashbacks and go straight into kill mode when it saw Reinhardt
Wait wait wait...
I think they canceled the single player story mode from the game?
my imagination came true,. I always wondered how those two would react when they met
A nice way of retiring Torb.
Damn you Blizzard. This story mode looked so promising. The writing genuinely felt good! But they canned it because they fuckin suck.
They probably thought this wouldn't make them enough money like their scrappy battle passes.
1:08 DLC required to continue cutscene.
Ea: write that down.
Thanks for uploading this, now i don't need to waste money.
He won't hurt you. Meanwhile in the game bastion is like a perfect counter for reinhardt
If Blizzard quit being a game company and went into Film and TV instead, they'd be a better industry titan than they ever were in gaming
Music's pretty damn good.
Bastion was standing on business tho, wasn’t going out without a fight
This is my home town! Wait, since when does Gothenburg repair robots??
Reinhardt had all the reason to not like bastion at first considering they killed his friend
1:47 rein is lucky to be alive right here 💀
WELP Brigitte got her code name now thanks to ger dad
6:04 I mean, I know it literally said Gothenburg at the start of the video... But damn, the ONLY recognizable landmark they left is the läppstift(lipstick) tower??
The bridge is wrong, and there's a second bridge missing further down at the mouth of the river, not to mention the random hills on the right side of the river when in reality it's mostly flat along the river except for housing districts and the one large hill that's a landmark in and of itself. Oh and the brand new vanity project the Karla Tower is missing, though I'd chalk that up to the tower not being fully finished when this stuff was added to the game.
1:08 God that felt way too relatable
Looks like they have brought the null sector to the scrap heap
It was actually at times fun waiting for this before starcraft released.
rein was seconds away from being shredded
It's even worse considering in the past, Torbjorn was shown earlier being neglectful of Bastion when it showed up, as he didn't trust it either.
The writing is just very cheesy.
@@NurhaalWell, let’s be honest. would you want to see someone who’s killed thousands of your kind, but you’ve killed them as well? It’s kinda a 50/50 here and yeah the writing is just straight up emmental, cheddar, cottage, whatever sort of cheese 🧀
@@GameOnOSC yeah I fully understand Reins reaction. It's in character from a reader/viewers perspective.
What's not is Torbjorn specifically.
All sorts of cheese. Lol
I do like Rein's OW2 look, but I really wish there was a helmeted version that he used in missions
I know, the reason he lost an eye was cause he didn’t wore a helmet and now he isn’t wearing one is like if he didn’t learn anything
This game should get a series in this animation
2:10
Calm down, Mike Wadowski.
It’s great to see Rein finally see Bastion (also great to see people posting the animations so other people don’t have to pay 15 dollars for an un finished campaign)
"Fight for honor die with glory" that sentence alone can justify Reinhardt anger to bastion
Reinhardt: Think of all the friends we lost
Bastion: *quite possibly the litteral last of it's kind* And how many of me did you smash with that hammer?
Can someone create a overwatch series that would be awesome
If they make an animated series Bastion needs to have his own story in there. They could literally make a whole movie just about Bastion plsss make a movie Blizzard
Honestly, they should stop making games and make an OverWatch TV show, that would be so fire
