To me Dr. Yen Lo's brainwashing and creating of assassins who killed without regret are represented through Ka rapping about various outside forces affecting his choices in life and ultimately desensitized him from doing dirt when he was in his youth. Amazing album, nothing out sounds like it.
this is, quite simply, one of the finest, most envelope-pushing hiphop albums in several years. I doubt a hiphop record will dethrone it for my pick of 2015, and I'm still unpacking lyrics (also, we've had some dynamite releases this year, and I still stick to this statement). I genuinely think this is a high-water mark for Ka, and the provocative decision to pull most percussive elements from these mixes only adds to the unusual feel and poignancy of the tracks. Just my $.02
I've been a huge KA fan since "Night's Gambit" after that I've listened to pretty much everything what he has released excluding Days with Dr Yen Lo... Truth to be said I revisited that LP like 6 months ago and I am going to tell you one thing... Rap fans on dark shrouds of internet still waiting for Madvillainy 2 while "Madvillainy" is alread here for 3 years by now...This album is a masterpiece, perfect lo-fi beats connected with sickest wordplay I've ever listened to....!!! props for @brownsvilleKA No wonder Earl Sweatshirt taged this lp on twitter back in 2015 as the best rap LP from this year
Anthony it's 2022, and I think this is yours most inaccurate review / rating of all time ... Please not for me but for you, revisit this LP ... this is instant classic
I am definitely a hardcore fan of his, but I do get a lot of what you're saying. This isn't exactly that new for Ka OR for Preservation for that matter and he probably could have done with some envelope pushing. Honestly though, I really don't mind Ka staying at least relatively within his comfort zone precisely because his style, when compared to a lot of his current contemporaries, is so refreshing for me. It feels so loose and relaxing that I could almost meditate to it. I guess that's mostly what I'm looking for when I listen to his stuff, especially 'The Night's Gambit' and this project.
***** That's basically why it's such a good idea for Ka to work with a producer who understands his style and can build around it. It is possible; stranger things have happened. It's a shame Preservation couldn't be that dude for him. Still, though, tracks like Day 0 are so hypnotic that they're almost like Hip Hop psychedelia for me and I'm WAY into that, so I found a lot to enjoy with the record although there's definitely some things to be desired.
Never really knew Ka, or Preservation, so walking into this album was a pretty new thing, and I really really enjoyed both Ka's rapping, and preservations production. Reminds me of an urban version of Joy Division, in my opinion.
I didn't listen to the album but I pretty much listened to most of the songs on RUclips (I'll buy the album eventually :c). I agree that only Ka fans would enjoy it. And I loved what I've heard. His way of spitting over down toned minimalistic beats gives off that cold, bone chilling feeling he tries to paint.
Which is pretty stupid because scores don't mean shit, especially since Anthony seems to dislike most hip hop albums. You should at least check one song by the reviewed artist, if the genre interests you. The Cal updates definitely are important tho.
***** I know scores don't mean shit, I just do it to albums I don't really care about. I'm not a hip-hop fan and I'm sure there are better places to start when I decide to do it. Albums that interest me, like Torres' new abum, Sarah Neufeld and Colin Stetson's new album, or even To Pimp a Butterfly, those I watch the full video.
***** >"Anthony seems to dislike most hip hop albums" 2 of his 10/10 are hip-hop records. He's also shown great love for artists like MF Doom and Flying Lotus. Can't we just stop with this dumb meme? It's a statement that's clearly wrong based off cherry-picking at best (and possibly because he didn't like the albums YOU liked…but that, I wouldn't know).
Well, things are getting pretty desperate at this point eh: - Still no Other Lives review - Still no cal resurrection Are the golden days of the Fantanolial Empire beginning to crumble away their final moments at last?
theneedledrop I have recently come to understand why your so popular, and so I'd thought I would suggest an album I came across when browsing bandcamp. Wyotahoma is the debut album release of Crisco Dreams. Having been crowdfunded via Kickstarter and earning 160% of it's goal, it came off as extremely high quality for a debut. Sonically it sounds, at least to me, like Modest Mouse vocals crossed with Johny Cash's lyrics, and bluegrass guitar riffs. To be honest it was extraordinarily easy to get into, it had me impressed from the first song onward. Everytime I listen to it I always find something else to appreciate. Give it a listen, and since you always ask, you should definitely review this one next. criscodreams.bandcamp.com/album/wyotahoma Hope you enjoy ^_^
Huge fan of Ka and couldn't agree more with this review. I hope Ka's next project is something really different. He's one big risk away from making a truly great hip hop album.
Terrible Review. KA is not here for internet reviews by youtube guys. We are not looking for KA to challenge himself. Ka has been done the rap game, and Anthony lametanio is looking for rap game shit. Lamethony Craptano is looking for Boone's farm raps; looking to get a quick buzz. KA & Roc Marciano are Aged fine wine of the highest caliber. Fans listening to them are looking for TRIED AND TRUE QUALITY raps with a specific taste in their style and lyricism. Stick to reviewing Death Grips bro, not music that feeds souls.
+theneedledrop hey man big fan but quick question... Where did you get your channel logo designed? A website or a person? Love the art style I'm going to start a music channel and would like a professional look.
Hey anthony! Ive been watching your videos for awhile now and I love your reviews! You always give me something good to listen to. I was wondering if you could give a listen to Nate's album Common Folk and review it. Its cool if you dont just keep doing what you're doin haha
theneedledrop YOOOOOOOOO. Dude do us all a favor and review the new Donnie Trumpet/Social Experiment project "Surf". I'm enjoying it a whole lot, love to hear your opinion on it!!!

I normally don't comment on RUclips videos at all but I want to see you review Dizzy Wright's new album "The Growing Process" I listened to it a few times on its first day already I think it's a pretty good album but I want to see what you think about it.
Catching a lot of cliché in your review writing these past few years. You don't have to review everything you know, we like it when you're passionate about something.

Can't agree with you this time. This project is great. Ka is a genius lyrically.
Honestly this album is ridiculous. It took me about 5 listens to really appreciate it. It just keeps growing on me. Nice review lil nigga.
😂😂
Using lil nigga 8y ago💀💀💀
This album is damn near flawless to me
