Man I love your stuff. I used to do a lot of woodworking for a decade. Kids and job and other hobbies took over, but I still have all my tools. You are on another level completely though. I built a timber frame house over an 11 year period and its in my garage, I just have no energy to put it up. Maybe when I retire.
I think design is the hard part and you have a wonderful eye. Also, you make great videos which show similar good planning and thoughtfulness for the audience. Don't stop.

This I a beautiful piece. The only POSSIBLE improvement I was wondering about would b a way to attach the top with joinery instead of screws. The rest of the table is superbly joined, and I would imagine, needs no glue at all. Do u have any recommendations on how this would b accomplished?

Nice composition, i like the design. you could have used a sliding dove tail on the upper stretchers (gable ties?) to attach the bench top, that would have been sweet. the screws mentioned in an earlier reply ruined it for me. also, the lower stretchers look really fragile until the trestle is installed, maybe make them taller.

One thing that amazes me, though, is how someone "disliked" this video. Did it offend them or disappoint them to the point where they disliked it and were so incensed, they couldn't even comment? M.D. Campbell. The reason for the dislike maybe an expression of what I felt when I started to watch, "Why spoil a wonderful piece of wood by putting faux dutchmans in?" Seemed to be art for arts sake. Dutchmen are normally used to stop a crack spreading. He even said he passed up buying a full width slab. Some people regard honesty as an essential when creating handcrafted work, things should be there for a reason. Like a protruding dowel emphasises the fact you've used a dowel, in the same way a proud tenon dose, and leaving tool marks to celebrate the hand made element. So I could understand why a purist might disapprove. Having watched the whole thing, I gave a like, it was a nice piece at the end. You were as quick to express disapproval of someone's opinion as the other person was to post a dislike. Instead, celebrate the fact that, thank god, there is a diversity in people's taste, otherwise some pieces of art and craft would never sell! Last point, if you cannot take criticism, you should not post on RUclips🙊🙉🙈

Can someone tell me what spray adhesive that is. One could easily question the strength/durability of a spray used in woodwork, but Brian has no hesitation in using it. Anyway, if someone could let me know, I would be very thankful.

That was quite a long time ago, probably around 12" minimum. I'm sure it's larger than that though. If you are doing a bench. Start wide and then rip it down until you like the look.
Full of questions, sorry. You said that you screwed the walnut cross members to the top and I guess you just glued the cross members to the top of the legs, that a good assumption! I learn so much from your videos, keep ‘em coming!!!

@@Benham_Design Actually people who don't appreciate the look and the craftsmanship take the fun out of it. Gluing up two boards is no fun. Creating that crack and making it look right takes talent. That piece has a lot features that take talent and experience to get right. I'm half Japanese, that would get a big thumbs up from everyone in the family. There's a lot of videos here I need to watch.
I often tend in that direction as well...that said, it can remain about the art and the willingness to inspire and give to others...and in my experience that mindset often provides more than adequate monetary returns...
The commentary on the video could probably benefit from a more natural conversational flow. That said, this piece was amazing and incredibly beautiful. Very nice work.

Even at a higher-than- average cost per kilowatt-hour, say $0.18/kWh, assuming the heatgun was set at high (1500W on my gun) and run for 15 minutes, though probably more like 5 minutes, you'd be looking at a high estimate of $0.0675. I'll pitch a quarter in case he opts to use an electric orbital sander at some point in the future😂

I usually use titebond CA glues for jigs. But most CA will work. I think most glues are permanent until you apply enough force to break it.

With elongated slots in rail to allow for wood movement?
Similar, Slightly oversized hole for wood movement. This narrow bench, will have minimal wood movement compared to a table top.

Guess you could have screwed the cross members in also
The top braves are glued in a bridal joint at the top of the legs
You plane, square, and cut the planks for joining then cut a decorative split in it...................uh yeah, wow nifty

The skill set in evidence here is impressive...You might consider some teaching as a project in and of itself...
