As a full blooded Filipino raised in the US, I like that I am not noticed in stores, an anonymous face in the crowd as long as I don't speak. I never truly felt like that in the US. Being asocial and cheap, getting the native price while being left alone is my ideal.

I was flying out of Manila recently and got scammed from the airport cab drivers. Luckily I made my way to where I needed. I think the friendliness and kindness takes a backseat to greed sometimes.

I'm a local. You may be right, but not totally right. Filipinos help seniors, pregnant women, and PWDs (persons with disabilities) when they find them struggling. Filipinos help foreigners more than locals because we know they are strangers and need help. It depends on every individual.
Some say it's about money, but I'm afraid I have to disagree. Mormon missionaries are having free rides with my brother-in-law, who is a jeepney driver, and he doesn't let them pay. And oh, my brother-in-law is agnostic. 😅
Market vendors are some of the most dishonest people, so I wouldn't count them as a factor. They charge more not only foreigners but also locals who they think have more money.
It's a cultural thing, and most Filipinos feel proud when they can help.

Majority of Filipinos aren't Well-Off where Just Couple of them who aren't Well-Off are Truly Friendly while Rest Filipinos are Mostly into Pretend Friendship which is why Philippines is a World Top 10 Scamming Nation + Top 3 Love Scamming Nation (Fact which can check World Scamming Rankings Too). Additionally, Racism Exists a Lot in Philippines Like other nations though in Philippines, it's More Color Racism including Being More Friendly to White Foreigners than Darker Local Filipinos (using whitening products lots too - not really healthy too)

Filipinos, in general, are known to be helpful to anyone in need, whether they are locals or foreigners. While some Filipinos may be skeptical about helping locals due to concerns about potential scams, they are usually more willing to assist foreigners, especially because they are in a foreign land.

It's not always the case, John, when buying something. There's a lot of Filipinos who are honest about the prices of their commodities .

I would say it is highly dependent on your demeanor. Generally speaking of course I would say yes. If you’re humble and respectful you more than likely will be treated that way.

The way I understand this issue is that their hospitality and niceness is their way of compensating for their "skin tax". I'm pretty sure you paid more when you went to the store to buy pillows and things, too. You get ripped off, but they are smiling in your face while they're doing it!

Well, it's not a zero-sum situation so it doesn't seem fair to equate it as 2-Filipinos are nicer to foreigners and 1-Filipinos are nicer to Filipinos. SM City and fruit stand examples, sure, they take advantage of the foreigners but it’s business - and mostly street vendors; also at the restaurant waiting for you to pay (which I agree is not right). However, all 3 examples are money/business-related. Sure, they take advantage of you assuming you have a lot of money in your pocket but they don't pull you to the alley and rob you, like in many other countries. On the other hand, if you're a foreigner who became homeless or need help in the Philippines, got stuck or whatever, Filipinos will help you and not let you die of hunger (like the Belgian tourist), that's for sure. Or you lost your passport and wallet like this lady (“she lost her wallet and passport in the Philippines... you won't believe what happened next...!”) There are so many examples you can find on social media where Filipinos went above and beyond their capabilities because they’re truly hospitable and helpful at heart. Well, yeah, especially to foreigners, so thank you Filipinos for that! The guard being biased to the foreigner, true, they shouldn't. I believe, however, it's because they think a fellow Filipino is more likely to bring a bomb to the mall than a foreigner (mostly for political reasons, as we know.) Sorry to say but your analogy is like asking the question, “Are Americans nice to immigrants in the U.S. or not?”. Comprehensive subjects like this cannot be presented like a light switch.

They are nicer/friendly if money is involved. If you understand Tagalog you will really know how they feel about foreigners. Are there exceptions? Of course. Foreigners seem to be delusional about the country
