I bought property in the Philippines a few years before relocating here permanently, 5 years ago. My wife and I have since bought more property, all of which garners us a decent income in as much we don't need to work a day job. I met my Filipina wife in HK, where we lived together for 3 years. We have a child together. We have been together for 12 years so, unless she is playing the 'long game', I feel pretty secure. My wife is chairwoman of the HOA and is well-respected in the community. I will always be "the foreigner' but that doesn't bother me.

You have insights that other bloggers either lack, or don't talk about. Vid after vid you hit on things no one else talks about. And you can cover a rather complex topic in a way that is easy to understand. You must have been an Elementary teacher in a previous life. Thanks and look forward to your next. To be honest, I like when you have one of your friends/co-workers/employees on to explain their perspective of the Filipino/foreiner interaction.

Okay nice, I understand why seasoned expats rent several Airbnb's exploring the country before settling now. But we don't live in a free world. Authorities in your country of origin want to have a fixed address. Same goes for immigration. They don't like you travelling around and also it is not handy changing addresses all the time. So if you dont have a fixed address which address in the PH are you going to inform all those organisations (banks, insurance, tax, immigration, etc.)?
About taking things for granten in your new country. It helps to make video journals before you migrate to the new destination. Videorecord yourself in your country of origin and speak to yourself about your life. Then when you are in the PH or other country and you forget how life was before you can look back at these videos and hear yourself talking to you.

I really can’t imagine the Philippines or the US in my case, caring if I came to the Philippines and checked out Cebu city and then Davao city and then Manila or Palawan. it would be pretty easy to track me through debit or credit card transactions or airports or CCTV cameras or IP addresses in social media. unless you’re living off the grid without Internet or a cell phone camera you’re being tracked.

I guess I’d be considered a seasoned future expat because I already have those seasoned ideologies while still living in the states.

Newbie here and living in Taguig. Some info older expats give is outdated. No, you don't need thousands in crisp $100 bills anymore. Haven't gotten sick from the water. BGC is god awful for rental terms, never move there.

Filipino here and I do agree with not giving cash to beggars. Food and drinks can be considerable but not cash. I've seen beggars that earn more than a minimum wage labor worker specially those adult beggars. Beggars spend their money not just on food but also alcohol and prostitutes. It's just a sad reality and yeah you are right that sometimes giving help are not the best option.

There are no opportunities for advancement in the Philippines when it comes to financial 'security' for most...the gap between rich and poor is mindblowing.

Obviously you know nothing of my life or struggles. However, I agree the gap between rich and poor is astounding. There is a lot of money in the Philippines, though it is concentrated in painfully too few hands.

After been here 18 years, what still shocks me is the vast amount of expats that come here and have never been succesful in any way. Such as financially and never even had a successful relationship

I mis-read your title at first, thinking you were saying “seasonal”, instead of “seasoned.” Got me thinking, however, how many expats are just there part-time, such as 4-6 months every year & is it unusual? … maybe technically they aren’t expats…idk.

You gotta listen to how insane this sounds, would you give some random girl in your own country like US money, hell no, so stop thinking like that in other countries. Same also in US…I don’t give money to beggars on the street normally it’s a scam. Pretty much all common sense stuff, but but the cultural aspect or experience as you are calling it takes time or watch bloggers, but even most these guys are just as inexperienced as other guy trying to make money on RUclips..
