    Boit you’re a legend at the game. I grew up watching my jefa (mom) play this game and years later I would wonder if this game is still alive and finding your Channel and seeing you play brings back memories

    I feel like Suppe's plan was great, but the execution got owned by defender's advantage. If he had just built a forward temple around 9 minutes in to get his Minotaur out quickly into action, the TC would probably go down.

      Pushing harder earlier could have been better but still some nice damage and reaction had been forced, when he had 5 minautors he could have tried to keep them alive and heal them ? with some hoplites and toxotes he could have held position to build a fortress and finally bring the TC down with heroic age Catapults. Here we see him try a desperate last push while hersir where out and about, he lost all his army and from this point just had to keep making army to not get instantly crushed.

    Props to Suppe for hanging in there. He fought for a lot longer than I thought he'd be able to. Perhaps the mistake was not being to punish the extra TC.

    Age of Mythology was my THE favorite game growing up. Then life happened and after a decade or so, I found Age of Empires 2 content online and got hooked to it. Although I always told people that AoM is my favorite game, I slowly started to wonder if it’s still my favorite since now I watched so much AoE2 and I haven’t played/watched AoM for so long.
    But no, true love never dies. I discovered your channel a week ago and after watching a few content, I have my conviction back. Age of Mythology IS my favorite game.
    Thanks to you Bolt, I've found my love again

    I'm team no AQ for retold but if these matches are gonna be missing, I'm gonna have to rethink my position

    • @fishofgold6553
      @fishofgold6553 2 года назад

      I wonder if AoM: Retold should have no autoqueue for military units, but still have autoqueue for civilian units. I can partly see why people argue against AQ if they are talking about military units. It can be wasteful. However, no sane person on Earth wants to manually train CIVILIAN units all game long from multiple TCs and a market, AND (on some maps) a dock, on top of managing everything else, all for desperately trying (and probably failing) to achieve the same civilian training rate as if you had AQ.

      @@fishofgold6553 I've also suggested this on other videos on the topic lol sweating on vill production is not worth it, at least from the spectator side even though it can be seen as another skill that differentiates the most talented. But my comment was more oriented towards that part when there's a contant stream of units into a single line of defense, each one constantly fighting for their life until the other player manages to take and advantage. Having seen competitive AOE 4 a couple of times, armies are constantly pulled in an out until and there is no "trench wars" like in AOM, which IMO adds to the excitment.
      Maybe I have not watched enough competitive RTS, but if military AQ is what makes those fights possible, it's an argument for keeping it.

    • @pianospeedrun
      @pianospeedrun 2 года назад

      AQ honestly makes life so much easier for noobs to get into the game... I got into AOE2, sure you end up getting the hang of it but it's still quite frustrating. There's also skill in turning off aq and not wasting ressources and pop on building a unit you don't need anymore. As said above AQ is probably what makes fights so epic, with constant replenishments assured.

    video style feedback - both sides - watch the same short-mid length games from both perspectives - one at a time and notate when the first playthrough the player was low on certain resources and use that to help further critique the second perspective.

    4:03 I am sorry my dude but did you ever play any other rts game except aom? xD
    Because the things you say are applicable to literally any other rts game i know... Be it AoE2, Starcraft, C&C or Cossacks it´s all about the minimalist things and the little timing advantages.

    • @BoitTV
      @BoitTV  2 года назад +7

      Yeah, I've been pretty high level in a few RTS games. What I mean by this is that in games like AoE2, Starcraft, the number one most important skill to improve is mechanics. The better your mechanics the better you can cover up inefficiencies. That's not really possible in AoM due to AQ and some other factors.

    • @starcraft2own
      @starcraft2own 2 года назад +2

      Not entirely true, a lot of RTS games allow for a worse position to win with outplay potential. Thus 15 seconds in practice can very often be negated entirely by just better micro and game positioning.
      I've won Sc2 games where i was majorly behind but managed to pull a move that put me right back on equal footing. Same with AoE2, there is a lot of mechanical outplays you can do in that game. As an example, i beat a goth player with archers despite him having the best anti-archer unit in the game. I made him overcommit to champions to fill his population to max and then revealed my archers. He could never get a critical mass of huskarls to fight back giving me the win.
      AoM is a very interesting game because it functions in a very unique way to most RTS games. Micro and outplay potential is still there, but it's hardly the game winner it is in other RTS games. Momentum is the key force to winning games here.
      I mean, think about it. Having one more stalker or one more knight than your opponent doesn't really mean anything in the previously mentioned games. But having one more myth unit than your opponent can give you the entire game in AoM. There are a lot of ways to break momentum in most games, AoM doesn't have nearly as many.

    • @pianospeedrun
      @pianospeedrun 2 года назад +1

      Lots of god powers break momentum. Eggy mercenaries. The universal momentum breaker is probably raiding tho, an efficient raiding party will absorb ennemy army and attention. Imo norse really broke Greek from around 19.50. This first ulfsark raid on gold was the first nail in the coffin from my perspective

    • @starcraft2own
      @starcraft2own 2 года назад

      @@pianospeedrun Sure, lots of godpowers do break momentum but they're single use. It's not like you can use flaming weapons several times in a match. Point being that other games have a host of things that can be done while AoM's ways tend to be tied to god powers which we just discussed isn't a renewable source. Even raiding is less effective with how walls work compared to most games.

    • @pianospeedrun
      @pianospeedrun 2 года назад

      @@starcraft2own ok i understand better now. There's more freedom of movement and outplay potential to in sc2 with units that can teleport short distances, abilities and so on. The anubite might be one right of the most skill expressive units in aom now that i think about it, but lag is generally so bad it kept me away from using them even tho i love them. In fac its the main reason i quit aom, micro feels sluggish, and in the end it does feel like a stat check with who's got the better macro.
