He has sooooo much control on his voice. The channel "The Charismatic Voice" took a scope down his throat to see how he does it. Vocalists like Will Ramos who do screams for extended periods of time have practiced a lot. So the higher pitched screams you hear him do are called "Fry Screams" and those are perfectly healthy for your voice if done properly. Improperly screaming is what hurts your voice. Now for the lower end screams. Those are possible due to what's called your false vocal folds and again using the false vocal folds to get those really low distorted screams is perfectly healthy for your voice. Using your true vocal folds (what you use when you normally talk) to scream is what hurts your voice.
Also side note if you wanna hear the most GIRTHY low screams on planet earth check out Slaughter To Prevail, "Viking" the vocalist of that band is just absurdly skilled his name is Alex Terrible.

  • @kenny240

As someone who’s been doing this type of vocals for most of my life, it takes a while to train yourself to be able to do it safely. I have been doing it for over 20 years now, and my voice is probably in better shape than it was when I first started trying to learn it.
The key is, if it is even mildly uncomfortable, you’re doing something wrong.
The things that are engaging that are causing the distortion or harshness to the tones, are not the vocal chords themselves. There’s an aspect of it that’s false folds, there’s some tonsil vibrations, and some people have learned (Will Ramos and Alex Terrible, to name some big ones) to use what I refer to as “paranasal resonance” where you sort of use your sinus cavity as an echo chamber which can create a specific sound and increase the depth of the perceived tone.
As I understand it, female anatomy requires some slightly different techniques than what most male vocalists use. But, there are plenty of great female led metal bands who employ harsh vocals VERY well. Jinjer, Arch Enemy (both of their singers have been great at it), Otep, and many more. There’s a wide world of great metal vocalists to explore, and I’m here for that journey!

I love that you referenced Gollum for one of the screams. That scream is called the "Goblin" and I actually use a Gollum impression as a reference for my soft palette position when doing this scream.
The key to doing harsh vocals like this is to train yourself to disengage your true vocal cords while screaming. It's literally voiceless screaming and it takes a lot of time and practice to learn, and so much more to do it well! I'm 4 years into the journey and still have much to learn.

When he says "Thanks for watching" at the end, hear how loud it is and how softly he's speaking? The big secret to "all the screaming" is that it's basically at the volume you'd have a conversation at. Not loud, because he's not 'screaming' he's just making that sound. This is also how he does it in a healthy way and also why he doesn't look like he's straining. Now don't get me wrong, he's not cheating, this is just how it's done. He's absolutely a monster with an amazing ability and control. I just wanted to point out what was going on.

Their new album has all the metal stuff I like turned to 11. You gotta do Sun//Eater or Into The Earth next. Or the OG version of this track, the vocal layering really changes the way a lot of the vocal lines hit.
Everyone is gonna beg for you to do the Pain Remains Trilogy, but you gotta get further into the heavy first before you can really appreciate what that song brings, in my opinion.

@@trashcanjoe4902 Really depends on if we are counting Pain Remains as 1 song or 3. Soulless Existence definitely shows the most musical chops if we count Pain Remains as 3 separate songs, but if Pain Remains is 1 song it has to go there.
I still think they have yet to top Of The Abyss as far as musicality goes, personally.
I think what they need to do to take their music to the next level is include more bridge sections and more interesting rhythm guitar sections. The rhythm guitar usually either doubles the lead, strums chords, or DUN DUN BRRRRRRRRT.
It's no surprise to me that people like the song with the most interesting rhythm guitar section(Soulless Existence). It really brings the rest of the song up.

It's strange to target the false folds when trying to get the basic sound, but after you get it, it then just becomes years of practicing to expand the ranges/effects that you can hit. I've been trying to teach myself for a few years now, but the initial sound is the same that you make while burping/throwing up. So it's a strange feeling to try to draw it out for longer and with different pronunciations with different letters. My best tip to get to where I'm at is to try to make it through the alphabet to practice each letter

  • @lawlsaucemgee7849
    @lawlsaucemgee7849 Год назад

former melodic deathcore vocalist here, the best way i can explain how to train your voice to be able to produce those sounds is the same way you know how to make certain notes while whistling. You don't think about the note really, just subconsciously produce that sound by moving muscles and the orientation of your head. its the same concept of expanding and contracting your lips, but just with your vocal cords, the folds in your throat and your tongue and using your mouth cavity. when you want a deeper sound, a growl, you use more of your mouth cavity and widen your throat for the most part, while screams and what not do basically the opposite, which is why a growl is usually mouth almost closed, and scream is mouth wide open. screams come from higher up on the cords, closer to the folds, tight. while growls and loose folds and deeper cords.
The more practiced and talented a person as well, leads to more accurate sounds, more control over sounds and greater output with less air consumption. Back in the day i could have done most of the song to a similar extent however, my strong suite is more of the extremes of highs and lows. My friends always compared me to the singer of Chelsea Grin and The Black Dahlia Murder, if you ever listen to those or have already. I mean i wouldn't say that there was a comparison i don't believe i was that good lol but i at least know how to produce sounds like that, and it's not easy... but comes with your dna lol (much easier for men to produce the sound and control it, women have a hard time with it for the most part because of the way vocal cods, folds and structure are)
PS. Will is just a God vocalist lol.

Btw the screaming is not really shouting, it's more just like a rasp like when you exhale coarsely like when your fed up with something, or like a cough or clearing your throat.... and then you put more breath behind it, and articulate with your mouth etc. If done right, it doesn't hurt at all.
