With Jagex recently nerfing the OSRS rev caves many Venezuelans are scrambling to find a new money making method to farm gold in RuneScape. For this mini documentary I talked to Venezuelan gold farmers to understand how this has impacted their everyday lives and what they’re doing to overcome it.

Venezuelan grandma doing zulrah and most dudes my age who've been playing for over 10 years can't .
Venezulan grandma doing zulrah is iconic . Reminds me of the womans rights muscle poster from back in day. Lol. We should make a vene grandma poster.
The zulrah's bots don't need hard codes and tricks from the best players, needs the venezuelan grandma.
venezuelan grandma plays runescape like a job. dudes your age have lives and do things with themselves.
theres no comparison. the basement dwellers who play OSRS like its a job blow grandma and most decent players out of the water, because they play the game like gamers and not people who are just trying to make money.

Imagine making a game that has a better economy than real countries.
@Dill Rogerz yeah Denmark is a real shithole compared to a capitalist dreamland like Haiti
@John Smitty In fairness, it doesn't help when reactionaries decry Americans who want policies like Denmark's as "socialist".
@John Smitty There are certainly always radicals of every persuasion, true. I think the center will ultimately hold, though. Neither radical left-wing nor radical right-wing policies tend to work out in the long term.
Honestly a lot of the self-proclaimed socialists seem to me as though they're just using that reactionary-pushed definition of socialism more than anything. I guess that when people are told that positions they hold are actually just socialism for long enough that they start identifying as socialists? But at the end of the day it's their positions that matter. Even if someone with a center-left bent is somehow convinced they're a "socialist"... they're not going to suddenly start supporting the nationalization of all industry!
@Eve There is really no country that is socialist or capitalist. All countries governments are amalgamations of all the ideologies. But frankly in the US there are plenty of people who would call what Denmark has as socialism. Also the point remains, you can't just cherry pick bad places and blame it on the ideology. Venezuela collapsed due mainly to a bad monetary policy and an economy tied almost entirely to state oil production. Also the US is less arguably less capitalist than Denmark is socialist. The US has arguably the most interventionalist government in it's economy out of the rest of the free world. The idea that we have free markets is kind of silly. Without it massive government intervention our economy would have collapsed in the depression, the 80s, 2007, and again now in 2020. I think we'd do better if we talked about specific policy ideas than just ideological arguments that go nowhere and solve nothing.
@Dill Rogerz It's because America undermines any country that is socialist so they don't do well and thus male Americans realise it is a better system.
So Jagex didn’t do anything about revs until after the Venezuelans turned against the rev clans? Hmm...
Exactly what I was thinking
The Venezuelans formed a huge super clan that could lock down more worlds more reliably than all the previous fractured protection clans. This allowed the gp inflation to go through the roof and definitely moved Revanants up in priority

Saved your life? A little dramatic don't you think?
Maybe not the most productive hobby you could’ve used as a life saver. Gym could save your life and save you from depression, so could martial arts, or getting into a career, or traveling or doing something worldly.
Hoping on a game where you can totally dissociate with the real world and sink into fantasy land for tens of thousands of hours, is definetly NOT life saving. It’s deceptive in that you may feel happy when you’re playing it, but it is not a good thing to waste your life away on RuneScape. And I think we should make a HUGE distinction between those who are physically sitting at their PC's farming gold, putting items & gold into the Economy at the rate a normal player would- and those who have tens to hundreds of Bot scripts running 24/7.
In WoW Classic, the biggest issue is with BOTTERS who use fly/no clip hacks to farm vendor trash to put raw gold into the Economy 24/7...
While the people who are physically farming items/consumables at the rate a normal player could- to sell on the AH to make gold- aren't recking the Economy in the same way that the Bot Farms are.
They both kinda suck.. But Botters & Hackers are BY FAR the greatest threat to in-game economies, because they're putting far more gold into the Economy than any individual person ever could playing legitimately.
Trade limits 2021
A lot of these major botfarms, Ironically enough. Are based in North America mainly, and Asia secondly(which are usually segregated in games anyway) When you see someone running 40 bots with their 10900K RTX3080, it's not some third world farmer. Statistically speaking it's an english speaking neckbeard and the hatred really is misguided.
Go to brutal black dragons and compare the amount of bots to Venezuelan gold farmers. Theres no comparison. Bots are good at pumping out cheap consumables. Items people really want are deflated by farmers.
"And I think we should make a HUGE distinction between..."

People in need is a loose arguement. What defines people in need then? How many "people in need" should they help? How can you actually tell if a gold farmer is a person in need. You can watch interviews on YT about people doing it as a side business just to make a lot of money, not people in need.
It runs the game for real people by artificially introducing billions of gold into the game. Making items more expensive and so on.
So many people do bots to farm or do tasks in game. Why not let everyone bot also? So many people do it and not enough get banned.
People harass others and abuse others in game but not enough get banned or stopped. Why not just let everyone do it also?
Accounts get hacked or people get locked out of accounts by bots trying to force a incorrect login on peoples accounts. Why not just let everyone do it?
So if all of that is still going on might as well let it.

Them going and devaluing items at bosses doesn't actually help you buy one for cheaper if you use the same method to make money or have items on your account that are from them bosses. It actually devalues your current bank value and means you make less money an hour doing any of these methods meaning that even though items are cheaper it still takes a similar amount of time to buy them.

Nobody in my town in the Dominican Republic knew about the game, only me, my cousins and some of our friends who later joined us. We would rent computers in cyber cafes because we didn’t have computers, nor internet, power would go out all the time as well. But honestly it was liberating. You are basically killing people if you do that
0:27 You know he's talking about Mod Jed 😂
How can we help the Venezuelan players? I don’t 100% agree with real world trading, but when that income provides for a family, I’d like be able to donate to and help provide for some of these people. I’m sure a lot of the osrs community would agree these people can use our help. Whether it’s donations or giving gp or bonds... it’s one thing to pay to play, it’d be far greater to pay to help another live.
I encountered a random player and he began speaking to me in a Spanish/rough English mix and he was a really nice dude!
The best thing they can do for easy money is running for bones or essence
Honestly, I went into this skeptical. I thought who cares about these people that are breaking the rules. But then you hear about how shitty it is over there and how much they work for so little. It changed my perspective on it. I do feel bad for these guys. They hate doing it but its the best way they can earn enough just to live day by day.
Yeah exactly, to us its just a game to them its to feed their families because they're stuck in a shitty system
Welcome to communism.
I can read Spanish and seeing those chat logs made me sad. They are saying how they don't have food and gas is way too expensive.
@Travis Bishop Exactly, just write a letter to the corrupt government and have them give away all their wealth and power to the citizens so they can afford to eat. I'm surprised none of them have thought of that.
@Travis Bishop Man, you're ignorant. Would you be willing to face your countries entire military force, untrained with probably a small group of other people with minimal training? The most likely outcome is they all die, and nothing changes. It's easy to call people cowards sitting behind your computer screen in a first world country.
@Travis Bishop Ah nice, name calling. You don't have the right to call people cowards for not throwing their life away, because you had no part in turning your country into what it is today. All you've done is reap the benefits of those before you who suffered through hardships. Noone said anything about being ashamed of your country, you can be proud of where you live and still have compassion for others suffering around the world. Looking down on people and pretending you're better than them doesn't make you better in any way, or brave. It just means you were dealt a better hand, and are arrogant enough to think you deserve it in some way. Attitudes like that are what keeps this world so divided.
Funny how ppl who hide behind a secure country, with nothing to worry about but vote the proper person (and I highly doubt these ppl even bother to vote either) who probably would get food stamps and a gofundme if they ever run out of money have the galls to call other ppl cowards cause they didnt go on a revolution.

I've seen a lot of Venezuelans on Soul Wars. At first they've joined English boosting CC's but I think now, they have made their own CC.
Boosting CCs in Soul Wars basically aim to earn max zeal per game, 40 if you're blue(lose) and 60 if you're red(win). Let's assume the average is 50 zeal per game(because you don't have control over which team you're going to get placed on), it only takes 6 games to get 300 zeal which is at least 1.2m GP(trading zeal for blighted supplies and selling them on G.E.). This isn't really much compared to other high level money making methods like bossing as you mentioned but it is a substantial amount of GP per hour. Not to mention the fact that you can have as many players as you want per game and that you can run more than one game, so the GP/HR multiplies by how many Venezuelans there are.
Granted that the Blighted Supplies might take a dip in price but there is still the Spoils of War which gives decent loot. Those items too will inevitably be affected.
"they were relying on the revenant caves to feed their families" what a wild sentence
after completing jad for the first time this week, i definitely want that jad figurine for christmas 😅
I couldn’t help but laugh at the “big thanks to 25buttholes for the footage”
I used to hunt a fair bit at black chins and would practice my Spanish and chat with the people from VZ there. They were really nice and it was usually a pleasure. Leading up to the elimination of the rev caves something really changed and when I told them I was from the US they would kick me from ccs and call for protection to kill me while being really toxic. Something definitely changed and imo they did it to themselves.
0.4 usd per M isn't undercutting. Check prices for selling gold on Sythe, or ask about selling gold on the non-Spanish gold site you showed in the video. Gold sites have costs like 24/7 customer service, so the prices they sell at are higher than the prices they buy at (with the selling prices being the ones you see advertised).
When you google something like "osrs gp usd per M" the first links are for websites that are looking to make a profit after several costs. These costs include good SEO to make it one of the first links, customer service in english&spanish that can be trusted to move the money between a dozen services like bitcoin/ETH/PayPal/SEPA/CashApp/WU/Banesco/BNC/BOD/BBVA/US&UK bank transfer, regular account bans for real world trading, website design&hosting, and probably some other expenses on top of paying the gold farmers for the gp itself. The price you see on their website that they're looking to get is going to be significantly higher (easily 1.5x) compared to the amount they paid for the gold (which is going to be roughly the same as any other bulk buyer on Sythe).
I'm sure the first people to offer 24/7 buying in spanish were undercutting, but if they're getting 0.4usd/M it seems they're getting a fair price. You could argue they should be getting 0.45/M because you can guarantee the gold isn't botted resulting in a smaller ban rate, but offering a rate like that could just mean bot farmers started posing as Venezuelans.
Imagine playin this for fun while others playing for survival. I’m humbled.
These poor people! I honestly hope they never get banned despite never buying gold
Buying gold or selling gold, doesn't matter, gets you auto banned.
A friend of mine got banned for RWT but his acc was an iron man :C so venezuelans are beign hit without mercy
Hello bro, I'm from Venezuela, I just want to say that the runescape has not been maintained but only to feed us, it is ugly that other people from other countries insult a Venezuelan, go a few days ago I spoke to a player of the game and I said hello bro Spanish and he said yes and I said I am from Venezuela and he said, I hope your mother dies, damn Venezuelan that really made me sad and that is ugly, I am 16 years old and I play that for fun and sometimes I take it as work to help My mom and my dad for the situation that is happening today is not good bro I hope you understand me also I have 2m in my bank and asked for help and no one helps me and I do not want to go to reve for the pk and etc I hope some Venezuelans understand. keep it up bro.
altough i feel bad for them
they rly should not be on Runescape to make money like that...
it's just as damaging to the game as the normal goldfarmers
how is it damaging? they are putting the hours into the game like any other player, whats damaging the game is the thousands and thousands of bots created daily.
and the bot programs that create more bots and so on.
they are goldfarmers ...why they do it is rly of no importance... i know now , and feel rly bad for them 2
but that does not mean we should just let them ...
if you are in osrs for reasons like goldfarming ,botting, whatever ...
the plz kindly FKOFF to another game
@@takoza5396 goldfarming isnt as damaging to the game as you think, its the bots that are destroying the game.
@@7svn. yeah really if vennyes enter in the game or not is no a problem but alot of then run bots and stuff is so disgusting
RUclips sucks Idk botting is definitely detrimental but if top end content becomes degraded because it’s flooded with gold farmers that’s a big problem. Yew logs being tanked is less detrimental than GWD being unplayable, tob and Cox uniques tanking and other high end stuff going that way. That’s the content that real players are actually partaking in so if that gets ruined what do real players actually resort to?
I actually have a Venezuelan friend that plays. Met on a quest and have been friends since. I try to help out when I can.

Even though it's been a decade since I've played this game, I would love to see the history of rev caves clans narrated by you.
Found this vid in my recommended. I knew a guy in classic World of Warcraft who told us he basically fed his family with gold he sold and had been told by certain GM's that they would turn a blind eye ONLY because he was in Venezuela and would not IP ban any of them but had to ban their accounts due to company policy and fairness in treatment and essentially let them play to pay for food for the same reason that they were not gamers but just playing to feed themselves and it also kept the Auction houses full of resources at consistently the same price allowing easier preparation for PvE content. It eventually became a win win win.
I feel like we as a community should be doing something to help these people
yup
I'm Venezuelan and this is amazing, I didn't realized that this was happening, it's really a shame that because of the situation in my country ppl are getting the etiquette of "the hungry ones". Great video I hope everything comes up alright👍🏻

This is really sad.
I live in Venezuela and I survive with this right now a million costs 0.37 cents of a dollar but this represents 250,000 bolivares, which is the currency here, it is a lot but it is not renting much since there are too many Venezuelans, on how we pay for the internet, water , the electricity is all free except the internet that costs $ 1.20 almost given away well, as president we have a regime but we cannot get out of it because they kill us, the armed forces are with them and better paid than a doctor they They earn more than $ 200-300 in shenanigans and corruption. Regarding the US, the sanctions and blockades do not improve the situation, but they make it much worse before, the government at least gave away medicines to all the sick but no longer because they cannot buy anything and here we cannot produce it because nobody You know and all the professionals have left the country. What saves us right now is that the coronavirus is controlled thank God if not for us.
The US has a puppet of "president" Juan Guaido does not rule anything or has power over anything and while they give him our wealth that are in banks in England and others, his family becomes more millionaire and also does not help the people is a lie the truth is we are very screwed:, (this makes you want to cry
