Fun fact in the french RuneScape community there was a clan called francoscape that used to have the best guide for everything you could think. It was years before rs3 was released. They made good guide for farm and quest like monkey madness. You can still find the clan and some of the wiki online. I can only remember some interaction in 2011 with the clan when i was doing every quest in the game.
It's more insane that the the entire system was based on player crafting and then jagex just releases vendors that sell the high craft skill items for lowball prices.
@@SuperChaoticus yep. it kills the economy and the economy *is* the game for a lot of people. I only play WoW at the start of expansions when I can make a lot of gold, then come back at the end spend it on things I couldn't achieve in-game otherwise. I'm not around when the economy is bad.
@@ThatDudeDevenyeah the grand exchange killed the game for me. Stopped playing right around that time which sucks cuz I was 2 quests away from a skill cape and had a handful of 99 skills such as fishing and combat to name a couple
was same in SWG. the best was player made, till they made DLC with better than crafted drop from mobs. I was master smuggler on Bria, and used to slice some of the server best weapons - most people had no idea how good some of those were! I had some de-10s that were too valuable to even use.

She was such a legendary beast. Great to learn about her history. And unlike most stories, this one wasn't exactly had good or bad ending. She was extremely successful and just faded into obscurity naturally as the game progressed. Now my head-canon is that indeed Runite is cyan blue because of her. Thanks for the insightful video. Quality is awesome as per usual.

Bluerose called them "new" runes because all the non-elemental runes were added late May 2001 as a magic rework. Huge expansion to magic skill that also removed "EvilMagic" from the skill tab and merged with GoodMagic
from the story she really didint deserve all the hate, people demanding free shit from her constantly would make me just give up on the game and never show up again, or at the very least abandon the character for a new one and not touch smithing again. people can claim she was being selfish or greedy but at the end of the day its suposed to be a game for fun, not a second job.

I remember when rune was released. I think I was 11 years old. some guy walked up to me at 2 oclock in the morning on a school night. I was so tired, it was like a fever dream. he told me that his buddy found a medium helm that was cyan, from a demon. I thought to myself: "yeah right"
The story I went in expecting: Player creates in-game item cartel, leading to shady item monopoly and pvp protection racket The story I got: Player with the highest smithing score gets tired of making free items for overbearing, clamoring crowd, everyone looses their minds.
2001. Aged 11. I went to my friends house, who introduced me to Runescape (Thank you Simon). Not only did I not have the internet, I had no idea you could also play online with other people. I don't recall how long it took, but it wasn't too long before I some how got a PC and hooked up to dial-up. Ah, the endless complaints my mum got from her friends saying they can never ring the house because it's always engaged. This was so long ago, I was reported daily for being a level 3 in the mining guild, people really couldn't fathom a level 3 mining adamant.
😂😂😂😂 yesssssss literally exact same story almost! Remember that playing habbo hotel back then too, had to come off it so mum could use the phone, good ol dial up racket noise too 😅
Fuck me, dial up. I always tried to shut it up at night so it didn't wake up my parents. We only had one computer and it was in the dining/living room area. Great times.
My mum went back to school when I was around 8-9 and Id sneak on the computer and she would call the house to see if was playing haha She ended up playing with us and made a list of skills I had to get and she would get me members haha I didnt come close but she surprised me one day. I was fishing at barb village and I cut a tree to cook the fish... She told me to try and fletch the log instead. I got all sad and said only members could do that. "Well log into a members world then." She went on my account and even put the knife in my inventory and put me right back... One of my favorite memory's of this game.. She passed away in 2007. and found her account in book a few years later. Still play on that account when I do play.. RIP Carnadova

Im 37 years old, started runescape shortly after bluerose did, I actually played with her quite abit. Myself(Omega999), bluerose, Alchemond, Puffffin and Whodabest. When there were very limited spawns and only 3 worlds you can imagine how tough it was to obtain rune ore. And she HOARDED it with a passion. I remember when she could finally make rune 2hs. They were selling for 1.2m in 2001....easily 100b or more in todays market. I was lucky enough to get full rune from her from being such a close friend. You were either an elite with rune or a bum with addy back then. Just to give a time frame...Zezima probably hasnt even heard of rune scape at this point.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip. Played around the same time as you but was a nobody (although was #60 highest magic user at one brief point). I have a distinct memory of rune kite shields going for 1m at one point. High level players were literal gods with an entourage of beggars following them everywhere lol
Im no 2001 player but I went into the wayback machine site and saw that Zezima did actually play it in 2001. He always hung around #20 - #30 position on the hiscores even..
Lol i remember it all like no tomorrow, I played during the same time, I started before you could bank items and could only bank money, so people would create mule accounts to hold items because you had to carry your items everywhere. Also before the wildnerness came out and the PK system was map wide. I wasn't BR13x's friend but i ran into her alot, and we did some deals for Rune items for coal. My brother was about the 4th to hit 81 cooking on the boards, being one of the first people to not burn Lobbies
I was very new to the game when I met her and she was so helpful. I never realised how famous she was until seeing this video but she gave me some advice for the game and smithed me full set of iron, went out of her way for me to the bank and traded it to me. Bumped into her again smithing north of falador and she forgotten who I was but was still so friendly. She smithed me some adamite gear for the ores.
I like to call people by the wrong name when they get too chummy with me, to let them know I don't actually care about them. "Hi demonik!" "Hi bluetulip"
This is a super deep video, but I might use the word Monopoly instead of Cartel, since technically she wasn't really doing any wrong, but rather had a dominating business plan making use of her available assets and other players' demands to achieve greater wealth... and magic. Really appreciate colonello doing this video, I had seen her name back then but never knew this incredible story
Blue sounds based AF. A true role model to aspire to, each post shown just shows her as being a pretty reasonable person who just wants some no-bullshit gaming hours. I imagine how difficult that would've been amongst all the middle schoolers throwing around slurs without a moment's hesitation.
I remember in high school as a kid in grade 10 hard grinding for 85 mining, then feeling like I hit the jackpot being able to get bluerose to Smith rune items for me. I remember she charged extra rune ore back in the day. It allowed me to sell rune items to kids in high school. Was a wild time.
I don't play RuneScape now, I barely touched RuneScape as a kid way back in the day; so tell me why it's 8am on a Friday and I'm so invested in this community lore for a game I know nothing about!? Great video, very interesting even to someone who doesn't play the game!
I remember seeing Bluerose13x mining just north of Al Kharid when I was leveling. She was super friendly and outgoing at the time, and I can recall many months later having another interaction with her where she was pretty short tempered; fully chalked it up to the amount of attention and harassment she got as she powered through her smithing levels, and I remember thinking how sad it was to see that she had gotten to that point. I hope she's doing good and enjoying gaming now, if she's still playing anything. Side note, this video helped me find out that I was the 959th player to create an account - Sucks that someone took my name during the 2017 name release!
@@noha112 Best part about it, it actually is true, she ended up giving her entire account away, after giving the items out. Typed the password out in chat and logged out letting everyone around scramble to try and log into her account.
Oh man this brings back memories. I started playing Runescape not long after release but I was a completely solo player, I didn't frequent any forums and had a total of two people in my friends list. I had no idea who Bluerose was but I remember her name always being near the top of the leaderboards. I was actually fairly high smithing and mining myself at the time, able to mine Runite ore and smith the lowest req rune items around the time dragon items were released. I never progressed further because I mined everything myself and pretty much never went into the wilderness. I certainly wasn't leaderboard material but I no lifed Runescape enough to be combat level 92 at a time when there wasn't a huge amount of people with a higher level whilst levelling every other skill I could as much as possible. I genuinely had ambitions of getting on the leaderboard but ultimately quit about a month or two after the release of the dragon items because I got a girlfriend haha. Haven't touched Runescape since.
I played for a few months around the time the rune items were released and remember hearing her name a lot but I was never close to getting more that adamantite so I never even knew about any of the drama.
Shoutout Colonello for the quality videos. I don't even know how you find all these things to even make videos about, I long forgot about most of these people/events.
I bought a rune 2h back in the day from bluerose. I remember it was in the bank in falador, east bank. Price was 1 million gp. That's all, nothing special, no personal connection! A family member who also played the game actually told me to go to bluerose to get a rune 2h after I asked where he'd gotten one from. It took a lot of farming to get 1 million on classic!
What we did back then to see if you had a real two hander was you had to equip a shield, then equip your sword, and then equip your shield. If the swapped in the same tick with no delay you had a real one.
I was there when the game launched, when fletching and membership became available. The rumor was bluerose would smith you a shield for 1m gp, but i was nowhere near that rich. Rune kite as well was monopolized Rune med and lg were what everyone wanted, and there was no scimitar meta since all weapons had the same speed (thus 2h being viable/bis)

I saw Bluerose13x twice in classic. One being swarmed in Varrock and another time when i was doing dragon slayer she was in the room outside the dragons telling some dude pestering her to screw off rofl.
I was around in this era and have many memories, you could have done a whole segment on the rune battleaxe. It was the smithing exclusive BIS for quite some time. I pked my first rune 2h a few weeks after it came out and later lost it and ended up buying my 2nd rune 2h for 3000 nature runes+materials. nats were 2k each at the time meaning that weapon cost me around 91 max cash stacks
i Played during the beta in summer of 2000, and in 2001 this bluerose basically controlled the rs classics economy. Was insane for the first year rune 2hands were 1.5mill to 500k by the end of the year a crazy insane amount when you compare it the other rune items the 2hand should have been like 300k starting. The first r2hands were like 5-7mil gp. musahi, zezmia and the others hit 99 smithigng like months later, with musashi hitting 99 smithing 5 weeks later. Basically 4 other smithers hit 99 months after the next close player had only 87 smithing. These other smithers traded and sold r2hands for more reasonable price. Lucky thing with the grand exchange a situation like that will never happen. As you can see in oldschool runescape players can now max and get high totals by buying their supplies in bulk off the ge and selling and trading items much faster.
I feel like it's pretty fair. Sounds like people were getting really greedy about her time and gear. So by asking crazy prices. She could do what she wanted, and since people were still paying these crazy prices, not have to worry about meeting crazy amounts of demands.

As someone who joined the "miners and smithers of runescape" (masors) clan in classic, this was some fun history. I remember getting some stuff smithed by whitemagem, never bluerose though. All these pictures are unlocking some old memories thank you. Something about fishing for lobsters and swordfish on an island that you could fight lesser demons. I do now remember seeing her name on leaderboards.
I'm surprised that it took people that long to try and make their own smiths, fueled by the army of miners, to rival Blue the second she said that she was making stuff for her friends only.
god, I remember seeing the og 2D runescape years ago at a local county fair in the tent ran by the local cable company, and a kid I went to school with was there playing it. it seemed so cool. I played it a bit eventually myself but just never got into it. still a fond memory.
This is absolutely wild to hear all this drama. Back when I played RSC I remember going through a long process of getting my hands on my Rune 2H. Took quite a while to get the rune ore, get someone to smelt it, then actually get in contact with BlueRose. I don't remember exactly when I got my 2h but I know at the time there was only 3 names that could make it and BlueRose only asked me for the bars to do it, and I met her at Doric's anvil. I don't remember her being mean at all, just a little stand-offish as if she was super busy.
The crazy thing is that the entire video takes place in F2P RSC. Imagine you achieving 99 Smithing or Mining by manually casting or smithing every single item one by one. According to the archive of tip it there is a comment made on the release date of the Smithing rework, 8 May 2001, that says that Scimitars now require 2 bars. So I think to compensate for the lower required Smithing levels, the items now require multiple bars to make as their price sold to the general store is kept the same. On the release of banks on 26 July 2001 she preferred to use isolated smithing locations? There were only 3 furnaces (Lumbridge, Al Kharid, Falador) and 3 anvils (Doric's and 2 in Varrock, right next to a bank). Since Doric's anvil is the best for walking between the mine-furnace-anvil, I should be best location until the update that you can store items in banks. Maybe because the entire mining-smelting-smithing was completely thrown out the window with banks that made her continue in her ways? Who knows. No link to rsc vet? What is you username on it :D I've only played on 01Scape so far for comparisons and footage for my chronological series :p
The real challenge was trying to get runite ore from that one node in the wilderness when if you died you died almost all your items. We used to do whole guild raids into the wilderness just to stay there long enough to mine one ore. You couldn't even see if the rock had ore in it, you just had to spam click it for hours.
Always great quality! It's cool to hear the more in depth version of her story as I remember hearing about bluerose back in like 2006 but never knew the full story!
I remember her smithing me some rune. This was when Varrock was the main marketplace - where the fountain in the middle is where we all gathered to spam our buys and sells. I would stand there for hours, trading, and eventually I was able to trade in rune ores, and at that point, any rune you smithed was profitable so I would buy the rune ores and get her to smith something for me. She would smith on east side of Varrock which was unusual because it's not as close to a bank as on the west side, but I guess she never needed to bank!
Oh man, this brings back memories. I started playing RS two weeks before Falador released and was big into mining. I knew Bluerose a little bit; we weren't close, but I'd traded or sold ores to her a number of times. I was never the top miner in the game, but I was in the top ten for awhile, and I met Paul briefly when the mining guild was released. Maybe I'm misremembering, this is over twenty years ago, but I vaguely remember rune items were going to be orange, then it got changed to purple, and when it was finally actually released they landed on cyan. I've got zero clue if it was influenced by Bluerose, but I was really hyped for the change because blue is my favourite colour. I was also an early runite miner, and the highs and lows of mining those rocks in the wilderness were crazy. I had a lot of chases from the depths out to edgeville; also died plenty of times with an inventory full of runite ore in the middle, which was just so beyond frustrating. But if you wanted to make money mining, runite was where it was at.
Thought this was gonna be a grim story but it's actually pretty chill and nostalgic. I remember my days in my old MMO where people and entire guilds made names for themselves where just the mere mention of them got people's attention.
Brings back alot of memories watching this. I was Stud690 and was very close to blue back in the day, I along with Lightning [whom i marrued in the game lol] formed the wanderers and was very close with blue as she would always make us the best stuff she was able too - I played the game heavily and stayed up near the top for a long time - but I went to college in 2002 and stopped playing and started playing World of warcraft for the next decade raiding in top 5 us guilds for a long time. But runescape was my first love for gaming and I will never forget it - I was close with Rab [tester] and had chats with Andrew and Paul in the early days of the game. Blue was always really nice to me in game, always called me *sweety* lol
I actually played, as a much lower level, during the run up to Bluerose hitting 99 Smithing. The whole event actually became a sort of community-driven thing as everyone just wanted to see her hit 99. I, along with tons of other people, would donate coal and other ores for her progress. She had a system set up where you could donate to designated people because she didn't handle it directly. Memory is hazy now, but I thought there was a bit of a race going on between her and another player on who would get there first. I also remember believing that she was a game moderator at the time, though I'm not sure if it was just a rumor or if she was a moderator of some unrelated forum and was confused. Fun times... or something.
hahaha, the swamp toad, lobster and spinach roll actually all go together. I try to add lots of little easter eggs when I record clips and that one is a very subtle nod to my wife and I.
I think it’s mind blowing that we millennials are a part of history 💀 we’re the ancestors in RuneScape because most of us are either close to 30’s-40 years old
Rune 2 hands were well over 1 mil gp. I remember having a drop party with items I got bluerose to smith, including a rune 2 hands and the prices had just dropped below 1 mil i think. Also, if I remember correctly bluerose was above the mithril smithing levels when adamantium was released and she had a huge head start because everyone else thought smithing past 60 or whatever mithril plate was was useless.
Something similar happened recently in WoW SoD. One person in particular got a new powerful recipe and demanded an extremely high amount of gold to craft the items. Made a huge amount of money from it in the last week or so.
they had classic servers at one point. I imagine it was shut down as theres not enough players to justify the server and maintaince costs. Theyre not going to hire new staff to maintain a project they already shut down as it wasn't profitable, it still won't be profitable. And why would they hire someone who is doing it for free already?
@@MyNameIsSalo I played the classic servers until the end. They were shut down because of lack of maintenance, and no devs to fix the major bugs. Not because it wasn't profitable. I played back in the RuneScape classic days. I remember when the rune 2h came out and I knew someone who could smith them a while after they came out. He quickly became one of the richest players in the game.
This is why i am enamored by older MMOS, the player driven stories that emerge from it. The blood plague, the battle of the demon Obelisk, and so on. There is something i like about the early years of MMOs, when games were less refined and alot was left to the players imagination.
If i remember correctly, logging into multiple accounts at the same time was against the rules. Nobody prominent would get banned for it. But i knew a person or two who did. The other rule she broke that was account sharing. I knew a few people who got banned for account sharing. In dealing with her a few times in pretty sure I dealt with atleast one other person on her account. Again, not everyone got banned for it, but there was some high profile bans for account sharing.
This is a example why i allways go for smithing skill. Also if i loss something i can just remake it same for my friends it helps us just relax and enjoy playing.
I remember at one time Bluerose13x sold rune battleaxe for 500k AND 3 rune bars. That was next to impossible to get back then. Only good money maker bit later was selling holiday rares. Halloween masks, pumpkins etc. went for like 100k each and they were quite common.

Wow, the dates of all these updates being released so close together, practically all in a year, is wild to me. Young me felt like he'd been playing the game forever between these updates,
She set that price in part to simply keep random people from constantly pestering her. She was pretty chill and if you were chill she often would make you stuff for a simple favor or even for free. I got my rune battle axe from her for the ore and a set of dyes which were pretty much worthless. This was back when that was the best weapon in the game. Also, rune two handers were NOT 1 mill when they first came out or rather when she could first make them. They were like 7 or 8 mill. The 1 mill price is where they settled a while after and they actually stayed there for a while.

Runescape was the first game i played online, it was around 2010. I was at the local library at about age 12, saw a much older kid playing it. I asked about it and he helped me make an account and took me under his wing. Fond childhood memory.
It's amazing how interesting gaming history and culture is to make me watch a bunch of videos about a game I've never even seen being played outside of brief RUclips videos. I was a UO kid.
Awesome to see this, I started playing before the wilderness released and still remember the excitement of those early days fondly. Although I wasn’t fortunate enough to have blue smith anything for me, I’ll never forget the density of players surrounding blue at horvik smith in Varrock. Thanks for the video.
Back then I was a manager of a group of consultants. I found out one of the consultants would be in his cubicle playing RS all day. Luckily I was a WoW player back then, and so instead of disciplining him, I’d sit in his cubicle and watch him play. I then had another consultant sit at a cubicle near the front door, and he would call us whenever the director was coming. It was good times 😂
This unlocked a memory I didn’t know I had…. Going into the wilderness. Thanks for making this video. I played RuneScape so long ago that I only really remember the feeling it gave me, and the hours that went by on my family PC with windows vista on it. Best

Fun fact in the french RuneScape community there was a clan called francoscape that used to have the best guide for everything you could think. It was years before rs3 was released. They made good guide for farm and quest like monkey madness. You can still find the clan and some of the wiki online.

I like how her account was “hacked” as if some insider didn’t have the scoop that her account was just an unused treasure trove.
Who knows.

Yo legend
Hello and welcome to my guide
my rsn was iron wing, started 2001
Bluerose probably would've had most ore traded to her, superheated and smithed.
Think of it like modern rune essence running - huge community effort
I remember RuneScape 2 first launched, everyone hated it and didn’t want to covert there accounts over.
The real challenge was trying to get runite ore from that one node in the wilderness when if you died you died almost all your items. We used to do whole guild raids into the wilderness just to stay there long enough to mine one ore. You couldn't even see if the rock had ore in it, you just had to spam click it for hours.
I actually have seen her in game multiple times. This is the first time ive ever seen media about her.
Always great quality! It's cool to hear the more in depth version of her story as I remember hearing about bluerose back in like 2006 but never knew the full story!
My god your channel is a time capsule, lmao. Do you still play?
Well...no empire lasts forever. She should just be proud that she made history in a game that millions love.
I seen that spinach roll at 24:30. Very nice 😊
hahaha, the swamp toad, lobster and spinach roll actually all go together. I try to add lots of little easter eggs when I record clips and that one is a very subtle nod to my wife and I.
I think it’s mind blowing that we millennials are a part of history 💀 we’re the ancestors in RuneScape because most of us are either close to 30’s-40 years old
Fun random fact... I was the last person to get 99 smithing on RSC. The day it shut down I finally hit the 99 smithing. Sad that it's gone

Sounds to me like you are talking about the crafted fire resistance stuff and crusader strike server.
I don't play for many-many years anymore but always great to watch such detailed chronological RSC videos. :) Good job.
I really wish Jagex would hire the OpenRSC devs, and re-release Classic officially.
they had classic servers at one point.
You still required an active membership to log in.
Private servers are against ToS and run the risk of being shut down, although extremely unlikely.
It would be nice to have an official place to play again.
@@liamb135there were like 30 people playing at any given time on the official rsc servers like a week after every time they reopened. doesnt sound like it’ll pay the salary for one developer
Yeah ir the official response being game breaking bugs @liamb135
Nostalgia lies to you
I had her make a rune 2h for me! It was quick and there was no line. I just handed her the bars and she smithed it right there and didn't say a word. I remember feeling like it was a special sword because it was a bluerose sword and not from one of the upstarts or resellers. I hope life has treated her well.
The biggest issue here is she had such a large choice of usernames and ended up choosing Bluerose13x.
Legit
Nobody thought about OGs like that back then
The name doesn’t make the player, the player makes the name.
@@shakebackj95 Exactly, look at Durial321, really generic name yet recognized by anyone that plays Runescape because of what the guy achieved by exploiting the game engine lmao.
You had to be there...
Shih, my Runescape name ended with an "x", 13 was a "cool" bad luck number, etc. etc.
Makes sense to me as an OG name.
Was the fad of the time.
"Romanticized Edginess"
I played back in the RuneScape classic days. I remember when the rune 2h came out and I knew someone who could smith them a while after they came out. He quickly became one of the richest players in the game.
They didn’t know what to talk about, so just quietly played RuneScape together instead. 😅🤣 Oh my god. Why is this so funny to me? 😂
Imagine she's a 50+ year old woman now with kids telling them how back in her day she ran things and they think shes crazy 🤣🤣
Or shes already gone
I remember at one time Bluerose13x sold rune battleaxe for 500k AND 3 rune bars. That was next to impossible to get back then. Only good money maker bit later was selling holiday rares. Halloween masks, pumpkins etc. went for like 100k each and they were quite common.
Your telling me there was a RUNESCAPE CARTEL? That's wild.
.. there still is? What do you think bots and gold sellers do?
I missed out on so much history back then since I rarely ever went to the forums... so thanks for this. I never knew how she became the first and all the drama around it.

@@Ismoketaintss707 Lol they probably don't play video games and just watch YT videos on them for the interest factor.
I was a second level distributor of Rune battleaxes, kites and then 2 handers back when she first started smithing them, I was getting them for about half price and flipping them in Varrock and Falador... good times.
I found out I was in the first 1000 players. Found my name on the list lol. (I still have the character now on my Jagex acct, tho i dont play RS3, just OSRS, and the name changed) I was young, about 11 years old, so couldnt be on as much as I wanted. But I remember so much of this as faint stories and things I read on message boards lol. Super fun watching stuff about the pre-RS2 version of the game for sure. Heck i remember when Asgarnia was released. I think I or a friend got members and it blew my tiny mind haha
Runescape was the first game i played online, it was around 2010. I was at the local library at about age 12, saw a much older kid playing it. I asked about it and he helped me make an account and took me under his wing. Fond childhood memory.
I've never played Runescape but been watching OSRS content since 2015, it's really fun. Great video, Colonello.
It's amazing how interesting gaming history and culture is to make me watch a bunch of videos about a game I've never even seen being played outside of brief RUclips videos. I was a UO kid.
9:32 how did you do that with the like button glowing what
Whenever a youtuber mentions the like button or subscribe button, the mentioned button will light up.
Awesome to see this, I started playing before the wilderness released and still remember the excitement of those early days fondly. Although I wasn’t fortunate enough to have blue smith anything for me, I’ll never forget the density of players surrounding blue at horvik smith in Varrock. Thanks for the video.
23:23 She was the first to earn $2.99 on RS lol
Back then I was a manager of a group of consultants. I found out one of the consultants would be in his cubicle playing RS all day. Luckily I was a WoW player back then, and so instead of disciplining him, I’d sit in his cubicle and watch him play. I then had another consultant sit at a cubicle near the front door, and he would call us whenever the director was coming. It was good times 😂
4:20 that signature Bluerose has seems pretty ironic given the post lmao
This unlocked a memory I didn’t know I had…. Going into the wilderness. Thanks for making this video. I played RuneScape so long ago that I only really remember the feeling it gave me, and the hours that went by on my family PC with windows vista on it.
