Spacehack might've had an unsupported character in the front. My friend has an account with an & symbol, but it shows as a 3 space in game. Made back in classic
The space before the name is made using the number pad combinations to create characters. In Tibia and Runescape people used to be able to hack and steal accounts by using what looked like all spaces when changing a password but it was actually alt characters created by using the number pad. I played runescape when it was brand new but I like Tibia better and stuck with it instead. This is old school tricks people used to use to fool username creations because hitting the spacebar and using the combo were not considered the same character even though they are identical visually. Was a cool trick back then.
Great video as always, Crumb! Another interesting one is the RUclipsr "MaulerOSRS" who has a 40 defence berserker pure account with barrow gloves that can't be recreated due to an exploit that has since been patched.
I used my moms credit card when I was a kid to buy a fire cape. I got banned for “macro minor” and recovered my account a few months later. I had the fire cape on a totally reset lvl 3
Actually still have access to a 9hp account. I didn't realize it was 9hp for a little bit when I was playing it in the past, but after getting a few attack or strength levels, I noticed and never did combat again. Wish I cared enough about the account to do anything with it, but it's cool to show to friends.
A 10 def, barrows gloves, rapier, ancients, turmoil, hand cannon, kiln cape, slay helm, venge, "rollback" account my friend had was by FAR the coolest / unique I have seen.

“Gets hacked” lol Go to rs website, under community or help or something I can’t remember but there’s a spot you can appeal a ban that isn’t in account settings where it normally is, log in, say you were banned for botting and that you admit to it and realize it was a mistake. Jagex didn't wipe stats in Classic only, also in late 2010 they did so. Look up the vids "Runescape - Jagex resetting accounts stats? Pures with lunars etc." and "Runescape-5/5 Hitpoints, With Commentary"
Hey, a few things: I had an account back in ~2005 with 5 combat and 10 defense so I could wear a full set of black (g) armor. It got way more attention than it deserved. I have one of a handful of 10-year hardcore ironman accounts. It will be eligible for the 15-year cape in a few weeks. Now that many irons are eligible for the 5-year cape, the 10-year doesn't stick out AS much, but I do occasionally get asked about it. It happens to be one of my two accounts with 3-digit display names. Finally, regarding special characters in names: I was a player moderator. This was around 2009-2011, not sure. We had major issues with spam-bots in F2P, which I'm sure surprises no one, and I was one of many PMods who hopped around muting them. One day, someone (or some group) had figured out how to get multiple asterisks into player names, sometimes several in a row. Rather than functioning as a "wildcard" character, as you might expect, this special character simply didn't translate into the report/mute system's encoding, meaning that although we could report them with the "mute" option activated, the asterisk(s) would break the report handler. The characters were simply un-mutable, including by Jagex staff. This also meant the "ignore" function didn't work. Yeah. Big problem lol. The solution was for a Jagex mod to come to my location, say World 3 GE, and forcibly kick the player. They wouldn't log back in right away, so there was a brief reprieve from the spam. I recall one - I believe Poppy or Jon H, but don't quote me on that - showing up when I messaged them and being beyond confused at these accounts with names like q**w6a5*. If you know anything about programming, including Java, that character typically shouldn't be allowed in a string! I sincerely hope I can dig up some old screenshots from a hard drive backup. It was wild. The exploit allowing this was silently patched within 48 hours, as I recall, and today I doubt many players (or even Pmods and staff) remember. I was told the reason they THOUGHT it was possible, but the actual cause was kept a secret because not all Pmods are angels...and no, it wasn't alt-codes, although that was a fun way to get around the profanity filter and swear in all caps at the time. ;) Needless to say, no such accounts exist now. Their lifespan was only ever so slightly longer than that of the average spam-bot. Great video!
Surprised the level 3 firecape isn't on here. Afaik, only two people have the level 3 firecape in OSRS. And since the method used to get it was unintentionally patched, nobody can get them anymore.
Many 1 letter names were hacked into from Mod jed in 2018. "J", "5","F" and some others were hacked into. I think all of them were returned to the original owners except for 5
I use to own the username 3. Recovered it in 2009 and sold it for 400$ lol was never signed onto before and was still on tutorial island I still got the recovery request in my email saying it was accepted lol
"unlike unique accounts, rare accounts can never be recreated." ...definition of unique: "One of a kind" um what? it's the other way around "unlike rare accounts, unique accounts can never be recreated" i think that is what ur looking for :)
Used to have an acc with 2 spaces in the name, the spaces however weren't actually spaces, it's just that for logging in, and for displaying names in the game the "_" would be shown as simply a space. I assume the user " SpaceHack" is actually called "_SpaceHack". Starting your name with _ was possible but not with a space. That same account also has a floating 2nd story in the POH since it used to be possible to place a 2nd floor on a room, then remove that room and if the 2nd floor was present you would now just have a floating 2nd floor room. Unfortunately that account has since been completely removed from RS, the only traces of it left are some registries of getting the most EXP of the day in certain skills.
I’m a proud owner of a 9hp Ironman had it for yeaaaars happened when me and my brother were making “Twin” pk accounts and I spelled the name wrong so I started over and forgot about the account... I found the account last week and I’m planning on making a Skiller series on it! ;)
This brings back memories.. i dont anymore, but still enjoy watching bids. I got two pker accounts with multiple spaces. I also got a main which was banned with bunny ears. Essentially started playing after the phat drops. I just log in every once in awhile to keep them alive tbh.
Hi @Crumb, The spacehack account had been created around 2005. Back then it was allowed to add ASCII ingame names. Therefore altkey 147 was allowed as non-displayable character therefore the space. @7:45
My main account is a quad-spaced name that was made in February 2001, also Ironman btw. (I’ve been collecting multispaced names since 2010, and my prized account does infact have 10 spaces between the two characters).
Cool video, some mentions i would have included 1. Accounts that are wearing staffs AND shields (staffs used to be one handed) 2. Ironman accounts with 10 year or 25 year capes. Basically accounts that never left tutorial island
2:30 - somebody recently obtained the country username "Niger." I couldn't add it to my friends list a few months ago, but recently it became possible to add it to your friends list. "Nigeria" is still not possible to add to your friend list, however.
SpaceHack copy and pasted a character that wasn’t registered in Jagex’s keyboard, so it was replaced with a space, but it still tricked the system into thinking there was a character there so in turn has the space in front of the name. Hope that helps!
After the wild was removed in 07 I had a lvl 3 looter account that had a skull for years. It finally went away in like 2010 after being logged in long enough over those 3 years for the skull to reset in game. Def turned a lot of heads haha
Also, there is a F2P only account named “_Yrak” with a space at the beginning of his name, I have asked him SEVERAL times over the last 5 years or so how he did it but he has never told me.
@5:18 there was recently a bug to complete quests but not get the quest rewards, so you could do quests and not gain the experience. Some pures have barrows gloves and most common is 30 def with barrowss gloves. Bug was about a week and abused by only a few eople.
Alt code or a character that the system can't recognize like Mu (incidentally Mu being the Soul Wars log out abuse glitch upon release) would be my guess.
No one can have the same username, therefore is each and every account unique and rare in their own way. Now, item wise is of course a whole' different story, but that too comes down to several factors (I.e. The effectiveness, just how difficult it was to obtain, its actual price as opposed to the near countless of others, etc); It's all subjective, really. I personally don't see any point in even having such items (as it increases one's chances of getting hacked, doesn't really do anything for the game, and often leaves the "proud" owners of said items with panic attacks and what not). Feel free to disagree.
Hi. I know how the spacehack Account was done. I also own an Account with the same effect called "hax oh". Once you add the Account ingame a "-" will apear infront of the Name. This was done arround 2009 or so when Jagex implemented a Dialog ingame to forcechange your username. You would only get that Dialog if your old Username was reported or you had not played in years and your username was reseted. The ingame Dialog would not check if your username starts with a space or -
Alright, I've heard this enough times that I need to correct it. No one transferred their account over from rs 1 to rs 2... it was automatic... You didn't have to do anything, and all your stuff came with you. You did need to transfer it back though if you wanted to stay on RS 1, that is, just your stuff. Your stats and character are identical on both. One thing that annoys me RS history videos is that the people commenting about the past weren't there and just repeat what they hear. One of these days I'm going to make an RS history video, being RS's longest playing player, and inform everyone about who was responsible for scythes being dropped twice and why rares got discontinued, and fixing all the other misconceptions that have been repeated endlessly.
7:55 @crumb its a BOM Character Set. its because his name contains a charset that wasn't currently supported at the time. e.g. you use a russian character on a utf8 db it will replace with ? as a failsafe.
I’ve got three RS3 accs with bunny ears an scythes. Working on a cb lvl 25 with a untrimmed Hitpoints cape atm on osrs, which also is one of my three accs that has bunny ears an scythe in rs3.
My favorites are the ones that got reset. People praise them so much about how cool it is. But whats funny is when you see somebody who's a relatively high or mid to high CB level who's richer than they are... Oh boy it's "You buy gold!" lol. But yet the person who had stats reset was actually cheating and they get praise. Always baffled me.
For the most part, if you didnt bot gold farming activities you could slide right on through, its the gold farming activities that got people caught and reset, so you know what most of those guys were doing.
I did it because word eventually got around about getting these resets. So we would download the most easy to detect free bot around (usually woodcutting) and gladly take the reset just to get 9hp. The problem then lies with remembering the password/login details after years of not playing lmao.
I had a rare account. Was a pk account for f2p and i logged out skulled. Fast forward to a year after wildy is removed from game and i decide to log into the pker for shits and giggles. I was still skulled and didnt realize it until walking thru varrock and people started following me like “how do you have skull?!?! Is wildy back?!”. Lasted only for a few minutes but was amusing to say the least.
Spacehack is able to have a space in the beginning because when the filter analyzes the name it reads s p a c e and registers that as a literal character space. It then appends it to hack. It’s tricking the server into displaying the character before the name
Accounts generally are significantly less than how much they should be because of the original owner recovering accounts, therefore there aren't as many people who buy rs3 accounts as u may think.
i have an account with multiple spaces in a row and unfortunately when i log into this account jagex forces a name change before i can play the game. the account still has spaces but i cannot play on it.
This could be because you didn't log in for a very long time which causes the display name of any account to 'expire' and made available for other players. In this particular case you have to contact Jagex to get your original name with multiple spaces back as no one can have a name with multiple spaces anymore.
That space hack one - I know a few people who hang out in ‘limited cc’ who have the same space in front - might not be that rare and might be able to still don
" " The SpaceHack name was done by using ctrl+backspace in notepad pre Windows7. Then copy the black rectangle it makes. Kinda like using ascii codes except it was a bug in the operating system which evidently jagex didn't have a restriction on it just like a lot of older games like Half-Life was also able to use this char to have a invisible name. Hope that helps.
The previous holiday event brought back all those untradeables for all players. So now there’s people with bunny ears and the scythe without even having an account back in 03
Watched this, I have (had?), an account level 7 with scythe. Played at the library, picked it up, didn't realize it was done over two days only. Might have to see if it's somewhere in RS3.
Wait, one letter names are account bound? Wasn't there an incident with Jed where he stole someone's one letter name for a RoT member? If so, that might have been a massive sign for Jagex to launch an investigation when the guy reported his account hacked and name stolen, as apparently it shouldn't have been possible by conventional means.
@@asdaddds6273 That's sad to hear. I only know about the one guy that posted on Reddit and got a lot of traction, but I'm not surprised to hear there were more.

I would say youre right though its def a special character that osrs code doesn't understand so it appears as invisible. Love the vid man. What software do you use to edit vids?
Pretty sure the Spacehack thing is a Syntax error in SQL or early Username/Password text boxes. SQL Injection is relatively easy especially back in the old school RS days.
I have a no prayer kiln cape on my rune pure. Got it when insta kill darts came out. To my knowledge, there was only one other person who got a no prayer kiln who was 70 def. Not sure if it's possible in eoc so not sure if there are others with this.
I remember I had a 6 space in a user name, I ran a bot for 2 months straight people was unable to report my username cause they wasn’t able to figure out how many spaces I had in the name
Imagine for april 1st they add war ship, the bunny ears and the scythe back in game for that 1 event. The amount of chaos it would bring would be hillarious and also give new players a chance to get those items again. Since I doubt anyone actually plays of these rare accounts, in fear of being hacked, losing them or just keeping it as more of a trophy.
i have my og scythe and classic cape, and my account age from hans is off because it predates hans. i play every day and maxc cape/ my display name is Trustful :P
Maybe the restless ghost and imo catcher lvl 3 quest accounts should be noted to be osrs exclusive because in rs3 you can do those quest and stay lvl 3 as the exp rewards are given as lamps
I remember the era of rollbacks. Obby maulers would be low combats using barrows gloves and fire capes - it was insanity. Max hits we'd never seen before at a time where PKing was still simple. Fun times.

Gotta love the Hollow Knight music playing in the background for this one
Love the Hollow Knight soundtrack
My head just kept going "SHAAAA"
There’s someone called 1 xp off which has 200m xp in prayer but is short 1 xp in every single skill in the game including Invention.
Your a bad boy
Actually still have access to a 9hp account. I didn't realize it was 9hp for a little bit when I was playing it in the past, but after getting a few attack or strength levels, I noticed and never did combat again. Wish I cared enough about the account to do anything with it, but it's cool to show to friends.

A lot of this footage is from my videos hehe - Great video Crumb! (:

“Gets hacked” lol
Go to rs website, under community or help or something I can’t remember but there’s a spot you can appeal a ban that isn’t in account settings where it normally is, log in, say you were banned for botting and that you admit to it and realize it was a mistake. You will get un banned.
Gimme a few m when you can log in(10ish day’s probably)😜😜
Also it works if it’s a perm ban. My acc 2k total was banned over 3 years ago with no appeal chance, and I got it back.
Z used to be on my friends list back in the day pretty cool guy
Zezima?
Yh but.... Was you on his?
I was in a clan on osrs with “P” for awhile, he said he bought the name not the account so I’m not sure if crumb is wrong about names being bound. I figure P isn’t lying seeing as he clearly had the single letter name in-game.
I was a general in his cc, z was a fucking little pussy with a bad attitude
I'm also really good friends with "w"
7:40 ALT + 32 (on numpad) is the special space character he might have used.
Yep! I remember it
i wonder how far they have gone to remove ALT codes from the names

RuneScape. A game where rare means 1 and unique means a few.
These are confusing times
The rarest account is owned by a man named E, his title is “the robotically efficient” he has a warship scythe and bunny ears
Im pretty sure he is still active too.
Jagex didn't wipe stats in Classic only, also in late 2010 they did so. Look up the vids "Runescape - Jagex resetting accounts stats? Pures with lunars etc." and "Runescape-5/5 Hitpoints, With Commentary"
He mentioned that earlier in the video
Hey, a few things:
I had an account back in ~2005 with 5 combat and 10 defense so I could wear a full set of black (g) armor.
I was told the reason they THOUGHT it was possible, but the actual cause was kept a secret because not all Pmods are angels...and no, it wasn't alt-codes, although that was a fun way to get around the profanity filter and swear in all caps at the time. ;)
Needless to say, no such accounts exist now. Their lifespan was only ever so slightly longer than that of the average spam-bot.
Great video!
Much appreciate the info, doing a part 2 and using some of it with respect to ironmen with vet capes :) Thank you!
@@Crumb No problem! My hardcore should get the 15 year cape on 20 April, and I'll probably try to make a clip of it. Keep up the good work.
Recovered it in 2009 and sold it for 400$ lol was never signed onto before and was still on tutorial island
I still got the recovery request in my email saying it was accepted lol

um what? it's the other way around

First I fell in a 2b2t rabbit hole, how I’m here. I really need to stop watching RUclips at night
wtf, me too. And I had never even heard of 2b2t
@KruzSTUDIO you petty af
Such a good and very interesting video man, by far one of my favorites. Great work!
Hi @Crumb,
The spacehack account had been created around 2005.
Back then it was allowed to add ASCII ingame names.
Therefore altkey 147 was allowed as non-displayable character therefore the space.
@7:45
Incorrect this is still possible to do today. That may have been one way. But you can still glitch your name to this day.
You forgot level 3s with firecapes in OSRS. There's only 2 that exist (Rendi and Xzact) and Jagex have since made it impossible to be achieved again.
What did Jagex change?
My main account is a quad-spaced name that was made in February 2001, also Ironman btw. (I’ve been collecting multispaced names since 2010, and my prized account does infact have 10 spaces between the two characters).
This time i didn’t have to refresh the sub tab, just woke up late and i got a crumb video to enjoy with my breakfast. Hell yeah!

Great video Crumb!
Cool video, some mentions i would have included
1. Accounts that are wearing staffs AND shields (staffs used to be one handed)
2. Ironman accounts with 10 year or 25 year capes. Basically accounts that never left tutorial island
There's no such thing as a 25 year cape...
The alt code is probably ALT+0160. IF you use this in chat you can type all caps because it doesn't show as space.
I've still got an account with a staff and a shield equiped at the same time on rs3, this should be impossible right now since staffs are 2handed
Wow that’s sick
Got one of these too :D
I logged in like this once and undone it.. hahaha
2:30 - somebody recently obtained the country username "Niger." I couldn't add it to my friends list a few months ago, but recently it became possible to add it to your friends list. "Nigeria" is still not possible to add to your friend list, however.
This came with the forced censorship update.
Can't you still say Niger in the game?

SpaceHack copy and pasted a character that wasn’t registered in Jagex’s keyboard, so it was replaced with a space, but it still tricked the system into thinking there was a character there so in turn has the space in front of the name. Hope that helps!
When name change came you could just type a space before your name and it would be there like that.
After the wild was removed in 07 I had a lvl 3 looter account that had a skull for years. It finally went away in like 2010 after being logged in long enough over those 3 years for the skull to reset in game. Def turned a lot of heads haha
That's really cool, so you would log in a few mins at a time to reset the timer?
@@basedblueboy8770 Yeah I don't think the timer reset after login though so it eventually went away after a few years
Also, there is a F2P only account named “_Yrak” with a space at the beginning of his name, I have asked him SEVERAL times over the last 5 years or so how he did it but he has never told me.
He's going to the grave with it xD
There's an alt code u can do with a keyboard for a space it's like alt32
Finally. Someone that fcking gets it!
i know the feeling :P
uu uploaded at a good time! when the servers r down
7:43 it is a special charector, you can get it achieved with the ALT+ enter
I was also thinking an alt character but I was thinking alt+32
Its actually alt + F4
Bro I popped money into bonds to buy everything I need up to level 100, now I need for nothing and I’m making bank. I will never deny it
I did it because word eventually got around about getting these resets. So we would download the most easy to detect free bot around (usually woodcutting) and gladly take the reset just to get 9hp. The problem then lies with remembering the password/login details after years of not playing lmao.
I still have my Scythe on my 18 year old account! didn't know there was so little in game now!
Big same. Got both scythe and bunny ears on my original account. Sadly never play it anymore because rs3 is trash

My Runescape 3 account has a Scythe. Got it back in clasic, Didn't know it was this rare, kinda cool.
Spacehack is able to have a space in the beginning because when the filter analyzes the name it reads s p a c e and registers that as a literal character space. It then appends it to hack. It’s tricking the server into displaying the character before the name
I kind of expected some of those rare accounts to go for much more than just a few hundred. Expected them to be worth significantly more!
Accounts generally are significantly less than how much they should be because of the original owner recovering accounts, therefore there aren't as many people who buy rs3 accounts as u may think.
anyone else remember the female accounts in classic that had beards and transferred the bearded female to RS3?
That was just a normal bug that could be abused with stalls if i dont remember it wrong
@@AlbinSandell in classic people would use a hex editor to change the gender but keep beard lol
It was doable later too in rs3 with a glitch in the dungeoneering sagas, but that has been patched 5+ years ago.

i have an account with multiple spaces in a row and unfortunately when i log into this account jagex forces a name change before i can play the game. the account still has spaces but i cannot play on it.
This could be because you didn't log in for a very long time which causes the display name of any account to 'expire' and made available for other players. In this particular case you have to contact Jagex to get your original name with multiple spaces back as no one can have a name with multiple spaces anymore.
@crumb have you looked into the kurask bot farms? they're always in full dragon and around level 90-98. they're in almost every world
That space hack one - I know a few people who hang out in ‘limited cc’ who have the same space in front - might not be that rare and might be able to still don
I have an RS3 account and his name is Death Night. Never imagined that was blacklisted
Crazy to think a 3 combat firecape isn't unique.
I remember seeing B back in the day all the time
Wait, one letter names are account bound? Wasn't there an incident with Jed where he stole someone's one letter name for a RoT member? If so, that might have been a massive sign for Jagex to launch an investigation when the guy reported his account hacked and name stolen, as apparently it shouldn't have been possible by conventional means.
Some names weren't even returned to the original owners. "5" was one of them
@@asdaddds6273 That's sad to hear. I only know about the one guy that posted on Reddit and got a lot of traction, but I'm not surprised to hear there were more.

Im glad I thought "maybe I should atleast finish this section of the vid before I give me 2 cents." I would say youre right though its def a special character that osrs code doesn't understand so it appears as invisible.

It’s possible probably significantly easier especially with easily accessible darts in eoc
Fun times.
