I watched the McS live at Goodwood when it did its runs. This mod is fast, but it's nothing compared to the real deal. It sounds more like a jet aircraft at full chat rather than a bad internet connection and it seemed to be powered by crowd gasps. In an event where hypercars came past by the dozen to almost no reaction, you could hear a collective 'holy shit' as the Speirling tore past, every time it went past.
yep was there this year and saw it do that demo run that may or may not have been a 38.9 and yeah it's so different to this mod, sounds like a jet engine, looks like it'll stick to anything and the gasps from the crowd were only matched by the Family Huckster being fully sideways through the final corner on a rather mental run by Travis Pastrana
Same. I've been going to FOS for 10 years...NEVER seen anything move like this ever. It is one of those groundbreaking technological feats that will pave the way for other companies to start rethinking how fast happens
@@jakeb2008 I doubt it tbh Fan cars have been around for a long time. Since the Chapparal 2J. But it was felt they weren't in the spirit of fair racing, so they were banned. I’m so happy to see you hit 900,000. I’ve been watching since you only had around 40k and how much you and this channel have grown is astounding. I and the rest of your community are so fucking proud of you man, you’re genuinely the best Jimmy🤞
I just feel like the mod's got the downforce simulation completely wrong, the car should have a static ~2 tons of downforce (going maybe a tad above because of the passive aero of the car, especially that rear wing) but it sure doesn't look like it has anywhere near that, especially at lower speeds. Dunno, weird.
Assetto doesn't really have a way of doing static downforce the best you can do is make super powerful areo wings that adjust angle with speed to sustain a certain level of downforce but that can be very involved and the only mod I know that has done something like that is the IDR to get the low speed downforce without destroying the suspension at higher speed
Question from someone who's unfamiliar with modding in AC: is there a way to properly implement fan car downforce? Since the downforce generated the fan is a sort of "hand of god" force rather than aero or ground effect which rely on speed. Can you maybe abuse the ground effect settings to dial it in?
The return of the "How fast can it lap Nords" series? 👀 Serious note, really enjoying all your content lately, and your coverage of the GT Finals was unbelievable, exciting from start to finish! Congrats on the 900K, JB ❤️

This thing should have a fan active regardless of throttle input. That's what they stated anyway, it is supposed to have 2,000 kg (4,400 lb) of downforce from a standstill. Seems like the mod does need some work. Very cool that someone is working on one though.
From a video I saw that was a drive and walkaround of the car, the fan is independent and must be off when the car isn't moving since it draws so much power. There are different settings of the fan that can be done in the cockpit of the real car.
The population of County Kerry in Ireland, where I live, as of the 2022 census is 158,458. Just to put into perspective the amount of subs Jimmy has. Well done man. Proud of you. P.S. I deleted my lap time prediction because it was an f1 in the snow time
Hey there, I'm the creator of Formula DS (now I'm working on the first well made rental kart, for AC), I've just checked this car's data: It has nothing for making the constant downforce generated by a fan. So yeah, it's very far from what it should be. Congrats for the 900K subs!
That thing looks like what would happen if you crossed a LMP1 with a Legend car, and unless I'm very much mistaken the starting throttle up sounds like a Pacman arcade cabinet booting up. Sounds of the future, indeed. Congratulations on getting 900K. Now the question is, what will come first - 1 million subs, or the 500th FailRace episode? And speaking of fan cars - has anyone modded a Brabham BT46 into the game?
Been waiting to see someone in the community make this mod. But i definitely thought as you did, that the downforce felt traditional and I feel there would be a limitation to creating it because of the video game not having a fan mechanic haha
Pretty sure you can create the static downforce, especially with the extended physics allowed by CSP, the problem is that the modding team behind that mod is made of totally incompetent people who can hardly do anything past stealing models and slapping physics from other cars on top of them.
Had to watch the videos from Goodwood to really understand what this thing is and it's beyond words. I'm sure seeing it in person is just something else.
This car really highlights what a gearbox could do in a car like this for top speed. If you had a 2nd gear, there would be plenty of torque for an overdrive that would let this thing fly.
we had that car at shelsley walsh hill climb but it broke down so didnt run i was looking forward to seeing it i didnt know what it was untill i looked it up and its an incredible piece of engineering
Your acceleration was slightly slow in the vid. The mod has an overdrive mode when you hold the KERS button. And when braking, put it in neutral gear to keep the revs up. It stops slightly faster and turns harder. the mod was made with the fan speed being depend on the RPM. Great drive as usual Jimmy!!!💯
Theoretically, I think you should be able to recreate the car with everything functioning properly within Assetto Corsa. I know that you can choose where the downforce is produced from on the car. I'm not sure if you are able to choose the speed at which the downforce is actually made though. I think someone will figure it out. If I had to make a guess, you would need to use the extended physics from Content Manager and the Custom Shader Patch in order to properly recreate the proper driving characteristics and various features/driving&fan modes of the car. Hopefully this video gets popular enough that McMurtry themselves, or in collaboration with a AC modder, creates an offical mod for the Spéirling. Maybe if we are really really lucky, Kunos will work with McMurtry to put an official version of the car in Assetto Corsa 2!

agree about the fan. doesn't seem to have any effect at lower speeds. has gt3 speeds through the corners and just understeers. id expect more from 2 tonnes of downforce at 0mph. thought i was doing something wrong.
In AMS for example, we can't do this aero without some hacky plugin that theoretically could be written. I'm sure AC wizards could do it, but I'm curious if they did..
Skirt down would use the fan not skirt up. The skirt is what engages the surface of the track to create the vacuum under the car. Perhaps thats why you weren’t getting the static downforce
Might be worth trying AMS2 and the Brabham BT46B fan car at Nordschleife - different sims/physics of course, but maybe some comparison with a reasonably well-modelled fan car.
Jimmy, on the display for the car it says that the Skirt is UP. Would the fan car not require the skirt to be down to achieve the SUCCCC? Might be the reason the car feels weird.
Hopefully this video gets popular enough that McMurtry themselves, or in collaboration with a AC modder, creates an offical mod for the Spéirling. Maybe if we are really really lucky, Kunos will work with McMurtry to put an official version of the car in Assetto Corsa 2!
Hmmm. I agree. Not sure about the accuracy of this mod. I’ve seen onboards of the real car and it just grips and grips. With nearly three times it’s weight in downforce, You’d be flat out through almost all the corners I would imagine. Maybe the limit is the games tyre physics.
Assetto doesn't really have a way of doing static downforce the best you can do is make super powerful areo wings that adjust angle with speed to sustain a certain level of downforce but that can be very involved and the only mod I know that has done something like that is the IDR to get the low speed downforce without destroying the suspension at higher speed This mod is, lets say less than stellar lmao

@@Gryffins90 Ppl believe anything car companies say these days. It's been several months ago since that run and Mcmurty hasn't still to these very day released an updated live feed version of this so called 190 mph version.
This was still awesome even if the car wasn't modeled properly! The real car has a really sophisticated speed-sensitive control over the downforce fan, as the speeds increase it automatically lowers fan downforce and lets aero take over for better top speed. As much as I would love to see it run on the Nurburgring in real life, I don't think the track surface is ideal. Guess the VW ID.R is still gonna hold that record. :) Also before the McMurtry beat the Goodwood record, the VW ID.R had it over the McLaren.
Let's think it through. It's a fan car. So stay off the curbs, especially on corner entries and apexes. If you drive up a curb, you're levering the car up away from the ground, letting air under it and ruining the suction down there, so you won't be able to get the same amount of lateral G's. Did you notice how you lost control all those times _after_ driving across or onto a curb? Yeah. Another point: I bet taking the outside line on the two Karrousels would be faster--the car would be flatter to the ground and therefore generating more suction/downforce under itself, therefore more lateral G's.
I was thinking the same, and the karrousel is what put those thoughts in my mind. As soon as he mentioned it, i thought "he should try the outside line".
"Mediocre sim racing channel" - is a proficient sim racer and real life race car driver now... Not sure how mediocre it is now Jimmer. Congrats on 900k!
Jimmy, if you like fan cars and assetto mods that shouldn't have been made. Then you may like my subaru. It has 1000hp, 1000nm of torque, and weights 1000kg i call it scubi cubed. Gripping the ground with F1 rear tires on all corners, f1 brakes and transmission. But! Best of all, its a fan car. Special tuning was done so the fans taper off as over body aero comes in. it makes 10,000lbs of downforce from 5mph onwards!!! With the added fun of DRS. I made it specifically to max its driver out mentally. That said, this car is cursed and has a 50/50 chance of snapping your rear axles 😅
i know one of the formula student cars is a fan car. i wonder how theyve done it. that mod is, im 99% sure, made by the people that built the car, so id assume they got it right. also regarding the real car, theyre building a consumer version that will be even FASTER and have a much higher top speed.

The version of Goodwood was limited to 150 mph and the new version will be limited to 190 which is enough for most racetracks.
@@Gryffins90 Ppl believe anything car companies say these days. It's been several months ago since that run and Mcmurty hasn't still to these very day released an updated live feed version of this so called 190 mph version.
@@stevendavis6157 well it's practically a new model in development and they didn't announce any release for 2023 so nothing wrong here.
I'm loving the return of Nords
i cant imagine the dent in that omp seat (congrats on the subs though jimmy, very well deserved)
to the McMurtry peeps: the world is waiting for you to go there and break records irl
Congrats for 900k.👍
Awesome content as always Jimmer. +1 for BBQ Pit boys!
Running an 8 in the quarter mile with a speed of 150mph is insane...
There was a time when getting sideways was the end of it, now look at you, handling it like not much of a big deal. Also congrats on the 900k!!!
Speaking of fan car, wanna try the OG fan car on the nordschleife? Chaparral 2J the boxy boi
i know one of the formula student cars is a fan car. i wonder how theyve done it. that mod is, im 99% sure, made by the people that built the car, so id assume they got it right.
also regarding the real car, theyre building a consumer version that will be even FASTER and have a much higher top speed.
4:36 missed opportunity for Bird is the Word.
doesnt this car have the fanatec podium shift module in it? I spotted it when they did the goodwood run
