The pieces are nice, but don’t go together AT ALL
She spent so long explaining each individual process and yet nothing is actually cohesive together. The patterns and styles are all over the place and we really only made it brighter. I think the renter hid her disappointment well.
No she didn’t 🤣🤣the disappointment was all over her face and in her voice, especially the “wow” that’s black for wtf is really going on.
@@lululuv525 I mean, she didn’t outright rip it to filth, which was pretty generous if you ask me 😂 the 2000s velvet headboard would’ve took me out
@@lululuv525 our people really be like" wow that's crazy " when we don't like something 😂😂😂😂
@@oluwashinaomisanya7487 exactly!🤣🤣
I think the wallpaper trick was great, the wallpaper itself was lovely, and the carpet was beautiful. But I can't *believe* this space was put together by a "designer". It's chaotic, those disparate elements clash, the throw at the end of the bed is SO discordant, and she did nothing to improve a bad layout. Nothing about this says "polished entrepreneur".
I was going to post something similar. Though it's cute and functional, it definitely isn't as cohesive as it could've been. I think New England Beach House can be a classy aesthetic, but it just doesn't look like a 30 year old's room. If she had built the room around the backboard of the bed and made the space a little more rich & sophisticated, I think it'd make a thirty-something happy. A cobalt & gold wallpaper would've drawn the eye to the nook, instead of making it look out of place, and lent itself to a Moroccan or Greecan vibe. Throw some pictures from either of those countries or some minimalist art with gold in it, and you've basically changed the whole feeling of the space.
Instead that poor girl got a frumpy, watered down Laura Ashley meh.
I don't think the client was impressed really... "Oh... Wow..." I don't blame her either. The strange mix of styles and colours were barely cohesive. 😅
Not everyone is crazy emotional in their expression of feelings.
Design of the room is definitely much better than before!
well I think its her own artwork that clashed a bit
A - cat Agree. It was the client's tacky artwork that ruined it. Remove them, and the room becomes sophisticated. Unfortunately, a designer can't exactly tell their client that their artwork sucks...
Lol! I am a person that like for things to match. I hope the show paid for it and not the renter.
3hr only to decorate maybe that’s y.
I think my main concern was the designer didn't use Cassandre's art as a focal point for any of her decisions. She had some really beautiful artwork, like the woman with flowers in her hair, and also the bird painting from when she was in 6th grade. They are the most unique and telling of her as a person, yet I think neither were factored into the color scheme and it made them fit poorly into the new room. Feels like a subpar job.
yeah i kept waiting on her to say she was going to to use the bird painting as the inspo for the entire room. it's gorgous! and i was surprised she framed wallpaper in place of real artwork 😧 that cassandra already had. Z(but perhaps cassandra asked for something new!)
I feel like the painter didnt even want that bird painting on her room anymore but there it is, she hid the disappointment very well
Cassandra complained about them using her childhood art, so...
those artworks are not strong enough to be displayed.
This is like an hgtv special, not anywhere near the caliber of design that I expect from AD, especially as a designer myself. I understand small budgets can be constraining but there are plenty of opportunities to be creative within that and the client obviously didn’t feel a connection with the outcome at all. Overall, I hope AD steps up their content quality rather than focusing on putting out large amounts of low quality design.
Girl calm down. I’m sure you’ve delivered some designs that left the client underwhelmed. It happens sometimes unfortunately. I wouldn't say the designer or AD deserve this crazy of a critique
Couldn't agree more.
Fully agree, what were AD thinking!
I actually thought I was watching HGTV
I agree. The client did not seem all that thrilled....and feel free to ignore rude people, LOL.
That window is gorgeous. Linear and black. I'm not an interior designer. But you'd think it would be good to use them as a starting point as opposed to hiding them.
Excellent point
haha good point. i was like ohh we are covering the pretty window frames...
I don't know what the budget was so I won't comment. But the overall style didn't match the owner. She didn't appear over girly or glam to me so I wasn't surprised when she didn't seem overly happy. I'm glad she did bring in her own art because at least those are things she chose. I didn't like the hang of the curtains seemed a bit bunched up. But the headboard lowered is really an improvement. I did like the overall colorway.
Designer here. I’m not sure why the designer would hang the curtains so close to the ceiling and not do the same for the bamboo shades. They were an outside mount, so the shades should have been hung higher because retracted Roman shades always hang down a decent amount. Those shades actually visually stunted the windows and hindered the light coming through, making the room feel darker and smaller. I would recommend hanging them as high as possible so when they’re retracted, the bottom of the shades just barely conceals the top of the window frames. This will make the windows appear to go all the way to the ceiling and it’ll let in much more light.
Exactly what I thought. I think the shades would have looked better if they were hung higher.
I'm not a professional designer, but that was precisely what caught my attention as well, and for exactly the reasons you've stated. The remedy you suggest is spot on...you're hired. 😏
Yep that does make sense. Personally I don’t like curtains cause I like a room to look ‘neat’. And u have to wash them ew.
@@forkrunner2313 Blinds and shades have to be cleaned as well.
It looks good breaks it up a bit would look strange blinds all the way to ceiling
Love the wallpaper trick, but I am sorry the space does not feel cohesive or polished.
I don't understand why the mirror was hung up so high, I also would have gone for a wooden framed mirror rather than a white and blue painted one to bring some warmth in. This just feels quite glam and bog standard pinterest/youtube/instagram design
So what happened to all the books and things she had in her room before renovation?
The room does not represent her entrepreneurial spirit etc?
I'm sorry but she asked for a bedroom for a 30-year-old entrepreneur and got a teenage cutesy room (with a bedspread and wallpaper that don't go together). This could be the bedroom of any teen in a Disney channel movie, it doesn't look more adult at all
I’m bugged by a few things by the design choices but the worst part for me is how high the mirror was placed? Is she going to be able to sit and see herself? 😅
It's supposed to double as a work desk so..
Cassandre was a great sport. I wish the room had been redone using her own vibrant, sentimental, artwork as inspiration and she probably would have liked it (more); also it seems that it might’ve been better to put the head of the bed in the space where the vanity was placed in order to get the full use and effect of both windows; Regardless though I still enjoyed Courtney & will seek out more of her work.
Totally agree. I thought it was rude to not use the artwork she already had on the walls, unless the Cassandra said get rid of everything.
She didn’t seem to love it.
Besides 2 pieces of art none of the pieces belong to her or are sentimental. I just love to see more of the room reflective of the owner but maybe that’s not what she wanted.
Tbh I disagree with a lower bed, because that’s valuable storage area that can’t be used with a low bed. On that note, this designer doesn’t seem to think of practicality when it comes to a rented place. The existing light was actually fine, and it means you have to put it back when you leave, as well as repair the wall where you screwed in the mirror and blinds. Also, a good vanity area has a large standing mirror, not a smaller wall mirror. It makes it rather difficult to do anything in said vanity if it’s small. Also, my other gripe is pattern clashing, if you have one floral, only use that one, and if you have any other patterns they need to be more soft, also that chair at the vanity should have a back, not just be a stool. My last thing, the colors aren’t the best together, While I love a good accent color, the tones are all over the place, cools clashing with warm oranges and pinks. Also, the nailed up wall decorations, and the floor length curtains dragging the floor, it makes it harder to keep clean
I came here to say the same thing!! It was all quite awkward…
Absolutely, also it looks like she won’t be able to see herself in the mirror if she sits on the stool - The stool is too low/the mirror is too high. The practicality of it just doesn’t work
@@siom3815 that really irritated me! Also, if she’s going to choose a mirror that shape and height, why choose a lamp that overlaps it that much. I also just think she wasn’t successful in mixing patterns, geometry, or colors. The bed frame is the only hard, rectangular shape and everything else is “soft and feminine”. That doesn’t look intentional when you only break the pattern once - it looks like a mistake. Same with the mixing metals. The only silver is on the bed and everything else is gold.
Agreed 100%
Each individual piece of the makeover actually is pretty nice. I like the designer's taste. BUT, the room has no cohesion and honestly I get a bit of a headache looking at everything. I think some of the pieces are definitely an upgrade for Cassandre, hopefully it gives her a good starting point to adjust the space.
But yeah, there's a number of RUclipsrs who aren't "official" interior designers who could have done a much better job.
Yeah Drew from Lone Fox or Kristen McGowan would definitely have done a better job.
Poor client. Looking for random things to say she likes 😭 also re temporary wallpaper - good luck removing it 🤦🏼♀️ I wish the designer had kept it simple. The mirror is too childish for sure. Literally had to double check what channel I was on because I was SHOCKED
Edited to add: I went over to the next suggested video which was the bar space (4 hours) and that was terrible too. Maybe AD should revisit this series 🫣
all of clashes 😭
It still looks like a little girls room
Not AD worthy, right? It's kind of Cute, and that's all.
Feels wrong seeing 65 sqft room right after seeing some 100M estate with view of ocean from generous infinity pool. LOL
I appreciate some renter friendly redos, but this ain’t it.
@@aaronsung6208 not that, is not about money, is just the lack of creativity, not achieving a cohesive look, with all respects to the designer, this can't be a serious demonstration of her real talent (wich I don't know but she is here for a reason I guess she can't be an amateur, right?)
@@astrompowers3455 agreed. The ambient loud pattern and red color is too much. The vintage mirror is very dated and unfunctional. All white furnture sets screams ''affordable''. Not tasteful design even for nonprofessional.
@@aaronsung6208 wall paper and blanket seems off on the same room, that take about the femenine shape is so random. But I like some elements like the lamps and the wall paper, just not together and certainly not here. I understand that they have a limited time to stage that bedroom but for sure days or even weeks to prepare, this is AD and a great opportunity to show her work, so this is such a sad fail.
I loved the client's art in the beginning. It was beautiful and cheerful.
I've think the use of painters tape is problematic. I've found it needs to be removed before too long because with time, it can remove surfaces if left on longer than recommended.
Yeah, that didn't seem like it would hold up that long. I know it's temporary but that doesn't seem like it would hold for more than a day.
Yes. I’ve noticed painters tape can also degrade over time and only come off in very small pieces. That could be beyond irritating then to remove.
Bingo! I came here to comment the the same thing.
@@silverchords1277
Painter's tape is pretty grippy.
Exactly! Over time, painters tape sort of disintegrates. Either it doesn’t hold up enough, OR it just binds even more and doesn’t come off in one go…
C-, college dorm style.
The "reds" in the duvet and wallpaper are not complimentary.
If one has a vanity, the mirror should be functional as well as pretty.
Bamboo blinds could be mounted at ceiling height to avoid blocking any light.
Why emphasize the fact that the bed is too large with a dark headboard?
Framing wallpaper samples? I should stop, but that cheap rug...
Does AD stand by this technique of applying wallpaper? Blue tape is designed to be removed shortly after application and no more than 14 days.
Agree re all.
Plus the style isn’t cohesive.
Plus, a “nook” should have paper on the sidewalls of the nook - not just the one inset wall. Looks unfinished.
Yes to everything. Also, I know I’ve been harping on this in the comments - but the way she mixed the metals just looks like a mistake and it’s really bugging me.
The clashing undertones in the reds on the wall and bedding is it for me... and those paired with that rainbow art above the bed I find particularly unsuccessful.
I think if she just kept the old, white headboard and put a nice, quality comforter that pulled from the color of the painting (maybe like a nice orange that works with the wallpaper?) this would feel way better. It's really the comforter that makes this room feel so mismatched I think :/ this was a bummer overall
Totally agree.
If the bedding was just solid white, the room would look way less busy and the accent wall would look 10x better
That bedspread ain’t working with the wallpaper, let’s be honest. Love the window updates!
I really love this designer’s perspective and the way she communicated her vision! The choices really improved the flow of the space…particularly the addition of those luxe cream curtains and a lower bed profile. I didn’t realize how much visual space the previous bed took up until it was changed! The only thing I would change would be a slightly sturdier desk stool that could be used for an actual work-from-home day. (Which is hard to say because I loved that little blue velvet stool!) I also loved the accent wall, that unusual mirror, the rug - pretty much all the pops of color. Interesting and fun makeover!
Can someone get in contact with the client because I'm pretty sure she would have liked her artwork to be showcased I would have loved to see her artwork displayed..
Did she just say let's not damage the wall by putting up taped wallpaper and than DRILL the walls ?! For the mirror and the curtains...
Everyone is complaining about the rooms cohesion but I see the designer’s vision. The color themes play out throughout the room, the navy blue with the pink/red matching with the bed, the rug and the art. I think the space itself seemed to open up quite a bit, which is really surprising and subtle when there are actually MORE things in it. I think the designer did a great job of keeping things light and refined while maintaining a bit of the fun and playfulness that made the clients old room feel immature. In 3 HOURS!
I love how she used regular wallpaper! More affordable options are available now that I don't have to opt for only "removable wallpaper." Beautiful makeover! Great tips!
When I was in college I used wrapping paper on my dorm wall and it was perfect and affordable
@@arielhoeft7511 Ah yes! Wallpaper is great for college dorm decor! Lol! Great idea - and lots of options too! Thank you! 🤗
Beware though! Even blue painters tape that is left up for too long (contrary to popular belief) can take a lesser-grade paint off the wall when removed.
How about just using peel and stick wallpaper that doesn’t leave a residue when peeled off. It’s a lot less labor intensive and there are literally hundreds of patterns available.
Have you used it before? I'm so tempted to try it on a wall in my bedroom, but I'm afraid it'll pull off the paint/ruin the wall when I remove it because I rent. Any tips or reccs?
@@hannahlanai It won't damage anything. I did a bathroom and became obsessed and did my whole hallway with it. There is a spray you can buy to increase the adhesion (you don't really need it, but it helps the paper slide around a bit so its easier to position, which is handy if its your first time. ) If you use that spray, don't use it on flat paint because it will leave a visible spot. the downside of peel and stick is it is pricey, so if you're doing more than an accent wall or the area over a chair rail, it a going to run you at least $400-800 for a room. Home Depot and Decorators Best websites have good sales.
@@MizJilly AH awesome! Thank you so much for the info! I've been drooling over some designs on Etsy and have been looking for any positive sign to pull the trigger, and hearing that it won't destroy the paint underneath is just what I needed!
(I’m going to ignore the dirty baseboards because mine need a clean up as well)
The aesthetic is definitely not the owners taste but I think the main changes to the bed frame and window treatments were beneficial. She can easily change out the wallpaper and get a different mirror at a low cost.
I loved the idea on how to put up temporary wallpaper for a rental.
I think that was the best thing in the entire video.
She was like "It looks... it looks a lot bigger" lol she hated it and was trying to come up with something nice to say XD
Overall a nice job but I would have gone for a softer bamboo color on those blinds cos they cut off the head area instead of the visual effect she was going for to extend the height - visually- over the windows... plus the gap above them looks weird. Maybe hang them higher- go for a longer drop?
I would have wanted a bigger rug and placed it partially under the bed?
I am glad she kept that special painting. Love it 🐦🦚
Beautiful! But nook could double as work space with a comfier chair. Unless this person has a really long torso, the mirror is too high up to use as a vanity mirror. Doing that only requires to now use precious desk space on another mirror.
girl, you need to keep painting! I watched this entire video to see if you would tell us where we could buy the birdy! it's gorgeous! Love the scale and the hues you used.
Love that vanity/workspace so beautiful!
Great choice of wallpaper could have used some shelves over the desk and a cool fully functional desk chair as she mentioned it's a work space as well.
Loved the mirror I think would have worked elsewhere in the room possibly over the chest of drawers.
I would have liked to see more pillows giving it a bit more lush look especially as the headboard is lovely.
Beautiful rug I would like more of her art pieces.
Thanks for posting
She definitely didn’t like this. It feels thrown together.
Renter friendly - yet proceeds to drill into the walls
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I know right
All rentals I lived in did allow me to drill in walls and paint them though
as a first time homeowner i am looking to AD for inspiration on how to design my new space. however, having 3 hours to redesign a space seems like an unnecessary and irrelevant constraint. i think instead of a time constraint, focusing on a budget constraint would be much more helpful. you could do a series where you redesign a space at three different budgets to give people an idea of what can be done with high, medium, and low budgets. or make it client based, like in this series the client can say "this is how much i could afford to spend on this" and let that be your constraint.
despite the lack of personalization that the other comments on this video complain about, i appreciated some of the practical tips she gave like how to install temporary wallpaper, how to make the ceiling look higher, and the cheap art tip.
i hope you'll take these suggestions into consideration as they would be really helpful for me! currently, the biggest series you guys have are the unlimited budget 3 designers redesign 1 space series and this 1-3 hr makeover series, neither of which are very practically applicable by the average person. thanks!
Wow, that was such an amazing and informative video. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Framing wallpaper as art is such a great idea... will try it out sometime
I loved the decorating ideas and colors.
Love every thing about the room!
I love Cassand’s painting!
I really enjoyed this makeover of a space.
Nice job. Relaxing and cozy.
Should we talk about having to remove the door to fit the carpet and provide an entrance?
I like her original room so much more...
It’s a nice touch to add an accent wall with the use of wallpaper. Never really seen that before but it totally makes sense - especially in a renter setting. Painting an accent wall takes time and more effort - this still makes the space feel funky while being both easier to put up and ultimately maintain. Cool tip!
that mirror is beautiful 💗💗💗💗
that tiny stool is so impractical as is that ugly mirror. i wish they would have come up with an alternative headboard solution, one that still doesn't block the window. did enjoy that wallpaper idea thought the pattern didn't work well with the space.
I liked the before version much better. But the wallpaper hack - not the wallpaper - was interesting.
Blue painters tape is for temporary use and not to be pressed firmly or it will tear wall board, plaster and/ or paint. Prepare to repair wall when this is removed.
I'm glad it's not just me being critical. Bless this mess but 1. Silver metal on the bed head and gold on the other accents. 2. The blinds should have been fitted back inside the window frame - now when they're lowered they'll hit the bed! 3. Am I the only one wondering if you'd be able to see your face when sitting at the vanity? I think the mirror is too short for standing and to tall for sitting...😖
I'd have eliminated the head board, made a feature wall behind the bed instead, mounted blinds (in a coherent colour) inside the window box, left room under the bed for storage (obviously needed), had the vanity fill the alcove for more useful flat surface oh and put a beautiful tall mirror on or behind the vanity for use while sitting or standing.
Great ideas! I wouldn't use red on my walls in my bedroom if I ever wanted to relax though.
What a lovely lady! She explains everything so well and she’s very calm! Lovely room!
"...our wonderful window looking out onto the backyard."
Cut to shot of depressing barred window overlooking a parking lot.
I would've like to see them try a new layout. I dislike the way the bed covers the windows, but you can't really downsize the bed without making it impractical and look immature. I can't guarantee that my ideas would work, since I don't have the measurements of anything, but maybe putting the bed in the nook? That way the windows aren't blocked and the dresser, bed, and desk aren't in the way of each other? Though that might create a weird space at the footboard. Or maybe putting the dresser in the nook? I imagine in the current layout that the drawers might hit the bed. So putting it further leaves room to fully open them. Or putting them on the wall with where the meditation space was. Also under the bed storage is a MUST! They might even have been able to replace the dresser with that, leaving space for her to actually have an ergonomic chair. She's an entrepreneur, she's going to work long hours at a desk. The stool is cute and would suffice for a vanity, but after the 1 hour mark it'll start causing some discomfort.
Rather than a meditation space, a bench at the foot of the bed might be nice. It wouldn't be as practical as a dresser, but it could provide some nice storage, maybe for sweaters and jackets. Basically, adding the bench provides seating space and storage and could help her downsize or eliminate the need for a dresser, allowing the room to have more space to maneuver through it.
where does AD keep finding these so called interior designers bro
Like the wallpaper idea, the framing of wallpaper samples and that's pretty much about it. The use of words like 'feminine' just puts me off. What's a gender got to do with a living space? She just wanted a 'mature' vibe and what she ended up getting was a mish-mash of patterns that don't quite work well even when the 'clashing' logic is thought of. The bed jutting out and just being that bit blocking the window annoys me. I'd have gone for a size that would have aligned with the lines of the window.
Another thing is that I don't know why people don't put tables that look outwards if a window is available in a space. If I have a requirement of a desk and there's a window, I'd like to have it accommodated and work around that. This room didn't quite make me happy unfortunately. Intention was there, but execution left a lot to be desired....
Cheers!
i think it looks great! :-) vibes definitely elevated.
Oh dear! That sad duvet and pillow pattern! Grandma came to town 😟
I really liked how she transformed the room into a simple, yet an amazing one. Because the room is quite small and the simple scallop shaped fixture, the comparatively small headboard of the bed looks so good and elegant in this room, I mean these just fit so well! I also loved the color combination, you know made the room look more aesthetic than before. Really a nice one! I would love to watch more videos like this one! Both educative and entertaining.
Really nice choice with the bed frame and headboard... opening up that window makes a big difference. The blue is gorgeous.
Great video and good ideas!!
LOVE IT.
Apart from the bamboo Roman shades I really liked the rest of the items she chose and none of these thing are things I would have particularly chosen so it’s fun seeing it come together.
Very nice job, big improvement
Loved the wallpaper space ~ lots of great ideas!
Really nice she did a good job
I don’t think it’s cohesive…
Great video
Courtney did a great job
So pretty! Can you guys give my bedroom a renter friendly makeover???
It's an upgrade, but I think I would have used Cassandre's artwork as a starting point for color, connecting the wallpaper, bedding, area rug, and lighting elements throughout the room...perhaps even refinishing some of Cassandre's furniture pieces in an inventive way using water based stains that tie the art into the furniture more, but keep it mature and elegant. Still, that renter friendly wallpaper hack is top notch. Great job.
She and her team did a great job. I like the changes she made. So many great touches. One of my favorites is the yellow flowers in the little vase, but I really like everything she did.
She did a wonderful job!!! It just takes time to adjust to the new patterns colors and tidiness. Beautifully done, very relaxing.
You're Fired!
Sorry as designer and artist I praise everyone whom creates so I love the mirror. Love the shade!! Don’t like anything else but hey to each their own!!
im not even a designer but this was...uncomfortable...the girl had so much better taste than the designer
I feel like she knew what to do but just didn’t know how to do it. The room gives a feeling of chaos something a teenager would do taking advices from magazines or TikTok’s but not something a real designer would do
Why not use peel and stick wallpaper?
Well, that was a great reaction 🌝😂
Nailing a curtain rod and art to the wall ain’t renter friendly
Only think I'd add is a nice white bench at the end of the bed to tie in the desk, maybe with a blue velvet cushion of a nice white cushion with soft blue pink stripes and under the bench have some wicker baskets that match the blinds to thie that in as well and also add some extra storage space
The mirror is way to high!!
Ayiti represent !!! (the shirt )
What i like:
The DIY wall method
DIY to the roof curtain design
What i dont like:
The loud color+pattern, too much
All white cubic furniture, constantly screams ''affordable''.
To each their own... but this screams teenage girl bedroom, not a grown adult woman. She's obviously proud of her heritage, they should have added that into the design plan/color pallette more. That way it ties the room into her artwork.
I like it. I think the room was a difficult shape and size. It’s a lot better than it was.
I'm looking forward to seeing a Bathroom makeover. Please makes it happen
I learned a lot from this video! Gave me inspiration to spruce up apartment while renting and be ok with making changes that help rented apartment feel more “mine” Enjoyed, thanks!
this is not my style at all (& doesn't seem to be the owner's either, based on her reaction😂), but i'll definitely take note of some of the structural/use of space advice!
Like the red and white wallpaper.
Seen framed wallpaper before and it was awful. This is the first time I've seen it done well...
That is a pretty replacement lamp shade. Looks better than the 'droopy boob' one.
The meditation poof would be a trip hazard for me.
