There is one more exciting feature that I haven't covered in this video, which is the Arri LOG C3 support! This is HUGE for people working in high end cine production. I will have another video to talk about that so please subscribe so you can come back to my channel when it's published. What do you guys think about this Panasonic Lumix GH7? I was sick last week, that's why my voice sounds quite strange and broken in this video. Sorry about that. I hope you guys can still enjoy this long video
i am VERY interested to see how the ArriLogC3 is implemented. I hope it's applied from the raw sensor data and not like a LUT converting VLog to ArriLogC3; cause i can do that in post 😂 Richard, I know it might be a crazy ask, but if you could some how test the GH7 against an Arri Alexa, that would be frickin amazing. Might as well intercut your talking head between the GH7 and the Alexa and ask us to guess the diff 😂😂😂😂
I am thinking: where is the GX8-II, where is the G90 mark II? Why do we have one quite low end cam (G100) and two very high-end flagship camera's (G9-II for photo and GH7 for video) with NOTHING in between? Gh7 is great for video users for sure, but Panasonic is a letdown for all enthusiast which at some point were their main audience (G1, G5, G6, G7, G90, GF1, GX8, GX9 etcetc).
GX9 is still sweet and if you paid attention you'd notice AFS is still DFD anyway :-) but there's a lot to love about this sensor even with severely limited video modes similar to the GX9 (which I have, also have GF1).
Thanks for the review... however I hope that soon I can do the ISO and dynamic range test for this new GH7, since the sensor seems completely new and different from the G9 II: in fact this one mounted on the GH7 is specified by the official website to be BSI type, while the one on the G9 II is not! Now it is to be understood whether this is a “mistake” by Panasonic or whether in fact they are two similar but different sensors!
haha you know what, i was thinking the same! Will cross check with your review and see if I missed anything important or got any different results than you!

@@TheRealRichardWong Hehe. It is a lot to go through when making a video this long I’m sure and yes there’s always things to improve, but no worries-your efforts are appreciated. 😋
Thanks for the detailed video. Having owned G9, then the GH6 and now the G9ii it's good to see GH7 gets the pre-burst photo mode and improved audio. The new internal raw video will be welcome by pro videograhers I'm sure. As someone that likes to record wildlife video, I really wish subject detect auto focus on the G9ii worked on videos above 120FPS with 4K at 4:2:2 10 bit, so it's a shame GH7 doesn't work at 120FPS either. Come on Panasonic get this working! Also on the G9ii when the camera is in photo mode, 120FPS video recording modes are locked out out until you change the dial on the camera to video mode. Does the GH7 also have this same limitation?
the 120fps is same in photo mode. I think Panasoinc really don't expect people to use photo mode for serious video recording. I have a few discussions with them on similar topics and made a few suggestions on how they could improve the current interface. But for now, it is what it is, when you record video, you really should just use creative video mode if you want to have good control of it. Re 4k120 with subject detection, I think it's processor limited.
@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for your reply. Personally I tend to take photos first (get them in bag) and if the subject hangs arround, turn the dial to my custom video preset (120FS 4K HLG) then record video. Pressing the video record button in camera mode would definitely be more convenient and I'm less likely to miss the action or mess up my photo settings switching between custom presets. Also, if you're a Resolve user then the BlackMagic VideoAssists will get you raw video that works with that ecosystem (I'm a Resolve user with investment in control surfaces etc, but I don't mind using FCP to do initial exposure/balance on ProRes RAW before exporting it in a log space). I've had really good luck with GH6+VideoAssist for cases where I can't physically access a camera that covers an important part of the venue during an event. In that case I pre-frame and leave the camera running unattended on a tripod (ideally with a remote setup so that I can pull focus and maybe tweak framing if it's on a gimbal). That setup has been rock solid for me out to 3+ hours of continuous recording, when connected to a monster 300 W-hr V-mount battery.
Of course, you can't see much of a difference at 8mm between Open Gate and 4K for stabilization ... @@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for the reply. The funny thing is that I never really tested the actual footage! I saw the transition on the back of the camera, decided it was unacceptable for my work and shot manual scenes without much change in exposure. I sold my GH6 and ordered the GH7. The canons are nice, but once to get use to histogram, level in viewfinder, full size HDMI and all the customizable button (even the "near focus" feature is great-which I didn't think I needed with canon's awesome AF but have had a lot of situation when with would have help). If the ISO transitions in the playback are smooth, I am going to feel really stupid for not looking into this more closely!
You seems to have goodcontact with Panasonic, Please ask them to implement BRAW internal recording in the GH7 too. And also in the S5iix for that matter.
On the thumbnail image you have Zoom f6 going to the trash can. Give it to me. 32float sound IN CAMERA should be awesome, but not with additional plastic-fantastic device for $300-400. Even checked right now, it is $500! With F6 as $650, 6 (six) channels, rugged body, recording etc. For the device working with specific camera brand only, no recording, no battery for 48v phantom power (ie will take from a camera battery) they want way too much.
@@TheRealRichardWong I don't know how I missed it. 😅 Thanks a lot for confirming. One more question. You mention the EIS High crop is about 1.3 to 1.4x at 1:02:02 . The G9ii "only" had a 1.25x crop in EIS high. Did they actually change the crop in amount?
another fantastic panasonic camera with two hinged screen, brilliant S1H was the first now here is the 1st micro 43 camera with double hinged screen. if only the S9 had this screen! sigh.
Thank you so much for all the effort you put in your videos. I'm convinced to buy this camera as soon it hits the market! I think it's a great upgrade from my GH5. :) Thank you so much again.
Richer cool review! The question is simply: is it possible to power an on-camera monitor 5-17 V DC in for Osee T5+ from a usb s desk? Well, to be honest, the only feature I was waiting for from the GH7 was replacing HDMI with a USB-c display port. I don’t understand why we need external monitors when we could connect smartphones! The only thing the GH7 lacks is false colors like on OSee!
thanks! I think most filmmakers would like to use a proper monitor that is larger than our phone screen so HDMI is still most important for professional workflow. I don't think the camera's USB port can power other devices.

I really like to now more about the arri log... is really that good to have?
i just bought gh7 and i am very disapointed that lumix removed almost all 4.3 modes. there are only 5.7k and a 4.4 pixel to pixel! mode which mean its not downsampled from 5.7 k but just cropped in which means reduced quality . ther is no real 4k 4.3 mode anymore i used with my gh5 all the time... i hope lumix will fix this with firmware updates
Oh sorry to hear that. I wonder what is the reason you need 4k 4:3 mode? I have never used that mode myself before, always use full resolution open gate so would love to hear what is your workflow/usage.
4.3 is the look i want. When i do my boudoir videos i welcome the extra space up and down as wel you waste a lot of space on the left and to the right if you film a model closeup and you want her whole body in the frame. If i dont have 4.3 open gate i need a wider lense then i use now which can giv more distortion. I use social media a lot as well. 16.9 is very bad for social media l@@TheRealRichardWong
@@TheRealRichardWong5.7k 50 is 17.9 the framing in 17.9 is even worse than in 16.9 its super wide with not much height. You could shoot vertically but then you get a very narrow image i dont want. 4.3 is perfect for what i do. Very versatile and useful for everything
You make great videos.......BUT.....when the videos are this long, people just click off cause it's way too long. Have you thought about doing a condensed review of 30 minutes or less???
Thank you so much for your feedback. You are not the first one make similar suggestions. I have seriously considered that. I have been wanting to create two versions of the same review. One is a shorter summary and one is the full length with all the in-depth tests/discussions. However, since I'm only doing everything myself, and I'm already struggling to create the full length video and meet the embargo date. I just never managed to create the short version, as it also takes a lot of time. I have tried, but found it really difficult to create a shorter version that actually can flow nicely and make sense to the viewer. But thanks again for the suggestion! This is definitely something I want to figure out a way to do that efficiently and make it possible!
For me the G9II does everything I need. Now if Lumix offers the extra trade in bonus like they did with the G9II ($500) I might trade in again and get the GH7.
Long time GH user so excited, but some questions: 1. Are there any restrictions on SSD usage this time around like there were for G9II? 2. Autofocus: is the AF the same as G9II or have they made other improvements (besides the train/plane AF). I tried out the G9II for recording some martial arts competitions. I found that autofocus was good but it would lose people when they turned around/moved around too rapidly. ruclips.net/video/m6pQKU8im6Y/видео.html
1.There is, i believe with just the normal battery, recording is up to 60fps. However if you use the new USB-C dummy battery with 9V 3A PD power, then I believe there is no restriction. However Panasonic has not sent me that new dummy battery for me to try/test 2. I have not done side by side testing so I cant answer for sure. However, I watched your video, it seems to be a really challenging scene for subject detection because of the busy background, fast movement, subject not facing the camera..etc I feel even my Sony would not be able to follow the subject 100%. I would suggest playaround with some AF settings instead like rely on area detection rather than subject detection, or decrease the sensitivity
@@TheRealRichardWong: Thanks for the response! 1. Great to know, looking forward to the updates on this. I would love to do an SSD setup on this 2. Yeah, I ultimately went with Area Detection later on. This was definitely a case of pushing it to see what it could do.
Thank you very much for your review. Can you tell something about the noise behaviour / low light capability in video mode with V-Log? Is it comparable with the GH6 (which was rather noisy, surprisingly at low ISO's) or has something improved there?
Great video, very informative and in depth. You spoke a bit about the C4K RAW recording - could you please tell me what the data rates are for C4K Prores RAW & C4K ProRes RAW HQ? I also have a 2 TB Samsung SSD and a 2 TB CFExpress Card -- how long record time would I have in C4K RAW on the GH7 using these cards?
is there going to be a new selection of glass to match? ...hopefully they will refine and shrink the MFT segment to minimize weight. ...otherwise, what's the point? S5iiX is $1000 cheaper and same weight. :/ I think they should start integrating nvme slots instead of SD/CF. Write speeds are faster and nvme is cheaper.
S5IIx is great camera, but it's still a mid level camera. It can't do uncropped 4k120 (doesn't even have uncropped 4k60) , cant do Prores RAW internal, doesn't support 32bit float audio, has much more noticeable rolling shutter, doesn't have front rec button, telly lamp, beep warning for memory card, CFExpress card, Arrir LOG output and many other higher end features. I imagine when the S1H successor came out, it will have most of the upgrades the GH7 have, but that camera would be much bigger, heavier and more expensive than the GH7, and of course requires the much bigger, heavier and more expensive full frame glasses as well.
If I purchase the DMW-XLR2 will it allow 32 bit recording for the S5iix or does Lumix/Panasonic have to create firmware to allow 32 bit audio for S5iix?
@@TheRealRichardWong thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed for the S5ii(x). That 32 bit audio is a game changer for the camera world
Hi and thank you for tour review ! How long it take to write all the 75fps when you shoot raw to complete the save to the cf express B ? i can't find this in your review 35:18 And can you shoot again when the files is in write like sony system or you need to wait until the end of the writing on the cf express B ? Thank you for your answer
Epic big video on an epic big camera - saving started! I will own 5 bodies :-) will upgrade my GX9 to a GX9 II or GX10 with 25mp pdaf if they make one. Please pass it on to them :-)
Besides all the picture quality updates, for me is the new autofocus and the stabilisation important. If you travel A gimbal can be a pain in the ass. Handheld is the goal, fast lens change, lightweight
Does the new xlr 2 adapter with the 3.5mm jack work on GH5 and GH6? Great review btw. GH7 looks like a fantastic camera, but in AUD / NZD it's a big purchase.
It's not "cheap" but there is no other camera in the market that can provide all these features at similar price or even double the price. the XLR2 doesn't work on the GH6, not with the current firmware at least
@@TheRealRichardWong yeah, I’m employed as an editor for a small production house with big clients. When we occasionally send audio off for sweetening and offer our mixer a choice of 24 or 32, he chooses 24. Speaking with a colleague of mine’s husband who is a soundo on broadcast reality shows, he says his workflow asks for 24 and they don’t use 32. Alex Knickerbocker has a spray about it on his channel too. I use it myself and love it. Stress relief on shoots! Mind you, the point is oft missed that mic placement technique still matters - rubbish in rubbish out still applies. 32-bit is not a magic wand.
@@TheRealRichardWong I am not sure their reasons are completely rational. I think it boils down to - if you are acquiring assets for someone else to post-produce, ask them what they require. If it’s all for yourself, do what you like. I certainly use 32 on my own projects whenever I can.
1:18:34 any chance of a high res copy of the R34 pic and any other car pics you took while there? Can bring an SD card or usb storage device and meet you somewhere or pull from drop box or syncthing or a server or whatever. Car nut even more than camera nut here :-)
Thanks Richard for this test.I use little panasonic cams for tours ect.I hope for a gx 10.But the GH7 is also a nice camera . I'am from germany and your english is from all tests from the youtube channel easy to understand.it is the kind of your talk, slowly and clearly. Thank you for your work. Best regards from germany.
Yes I want that too. Even though it could mean adding more size to the camera. And also you would still need XLR adaptor for the best audio quality from a XLR input.
I highly appreciate the product reviews of the Lumix from this channel because since the Lumix S5II, I have to be more cautious in choosing products from camera manufacturers. However, one issue that needs to be improved by the manufacturer is the ability to use flash to take photos, still requiring a constant preview to quickly anticipate changes in the environment's lighting in complex lighting conditions and apply it with flash to produce the desired photo. Other camera manufacturers such as Nikon, Sony, and Fuji have recognized this issue and have made changes. As for Canon, we can temporarily address it by using tape to cover the extra contact pins, leaving only the central contact pin for the flash to enable live view effect (exposure simulation). I hope Panasonic listens to users and improves on it.
Depends on what kind of SD card through. If we are talking about v90 cards, it's not actually cheaper than the slowest CFE card which is quite often just as fast
I'm not sure. I checked with all the information I received, there is no mention of XLR1 support at all. I will update you if i got a solid yes/no from my contacts.
@@TheRealRichardWong I have the Xlr1 from my previews gh5... now that I am considering the upgrade to the gh7,,, i wonder this... it seems possible to me,,, yet panasonics could have locked the feature only to work with the new adapter... let me know if you have other news, thank you!
I know the news is still coming out, but I've watched a couple of these now and I can't see much difference between the GH6 and GH7, with the single (and to many very important) addition of better autofocus. Other than that, the body, sensor, card slot options, 95% of the video options...all the same. Nothing wrong with this, it was a good design, why mess it up? But is the AF enough to call it a new camera? Sure. But I think I will wait for it to have a few more evolutions before jumping in again. Maybe wait for the GH8. For example, I want the additional audio features built in. Right now they are half built in, then you need the pricey breakout audio adapter. And I wish the body was a bit more comfortable to use as a stills cam, which it never was. So, there is room for improvement.
Sensor is different, better image quality, no streaking issue, better ibis, ProRes raw Internal recording ( this is huge), 32 bit float (yes need xlr2 but this is also huge), improved af with new subject detection, latest real time lut , slightly bigger evf, optional arri log support (this is also huge!), proxy video recording, frame.io support, lower HDMI latency, and many more smaller improvements and changes
@@TheRealRichardWong Hey Richard. If it's a new sensor, why no topic for that in your table of contents? From what I can tell, the specs of this new sensor are (almost) identical. Thanks for your work!
@lanceevans1689 sorry I mean new if compare to gh6.. but from my testing (that I didn't include in the review) it seems to be identical to the g9ii, which is better than the gh6 in a few areas
@@TheRealRichardWong I'd love to learn how it is better than the gh6 sensor. I heard a little here and there. But if it was significant, it would be everyone's lead (along with AF). The gh6 image quality was wonderful, so again, I would not feel compelled to upgrade. Only for AF, or if i simply needed an extra camera body. But that Ursa recently discounted to not much more than the gh7 looks pretty tempting!
Hi Richard @TheRealRichardWong Thanks for the detailed review! But I have a question, In your video you indicated that it in the "XLR + Camera" mode that it isn't possible to record 4 channels at 2496 But on the Panasonic website under the specs for the GH7 it seems to indicate that it is possible: "MOV Linear format: LPCM (4ch monaural 48kHz/24-bit, 96kHz/24-bit**) *When attaching DMW-XLR2 (sold separately). **When attaching Φ3.5mm microphone or DMW-XLR2 (sold separately)." Is it or is it not possible? Could your camera have outdated formware version? Thanks Bill
@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for checking. Too bad, because I'd rather do 4 channels of 2496 (as I currently can do on my GH6) than 32bit float. I have a Sonosax SX-M2D2 with an excellent limiter so no worries about clipping.
haven't finished your video but gonna say i'm very excited about arri log c3!! if it's taking the RAW 12bit color data and writing that into arri logc3, that would be amazingggggggggggggg truly hope it's not just color transforming vlog colors and just color transforming it to arrilogc3 in a LUT.

Dude, the IBIS performance is insane!
indeed
You seems to have goodcontact with Panasonic,
Please ask them to implement BRAW internal recording in the GH7 too. And also in the S5iix for that matter.
Richards new Feature Documentary is out!!! 🎬 Ah that tease at the end!! 😂 Looking fwd to your (Micro) M43 compact camera video 😅
Thanks Ben! You skip to the end first obviously LOL
@@TheRealRichardWong Haha! I admit I did jump around a bit! But will dive back in when I have more time!
the GH7 with E-Stab (High) is unreal, it's close to a gimbal performance with just a little bit of post stabilisation
For the device working with specific camera brand only, no recording, no battery for 48v phantom power (ie will take from a camera battery) they want way too much.
why the heck S9 didnt receive exactly this intelligent shoe to receive XLR or similar accessories. shame on panasonic product managers of S9
Does AFC work in FHD 240p and does subject detection work in 4k 120p? Otherwise, seems like an incredibly thorough review once again!
I actually said it in my review, but without asking you to look for the answer, the answer is NO and NO.
@@TheRealRichardWong I don't know how I missed it. 😅 Thanks a lot for confirming. One more question. You mention the EIS High crop is about 1.3 to 1.4x at 1:02:02 . The G9ii "only" had a 1.25x crop in EIS high. Did they actually change the crop in amount?
interesting, i'm not sure. I would guess no, maybe i measured it wrong?
another fantastic panasonic camera with two hinged screen, brilliant S1H was the first now here is the 1st micro 43 camera with double hinged screen. if only the S9 had this screen! sigh.
My 2 GH5 are about to start collecting dust 😍
The dynamic range and image detail of this camera does not look convincing. Overall, of course, the characteristics are quite encouraging.
Thank you so much for all the effort you put in your videos. I'm convinced to buy this camera as soon it hits the market! I think it's a great upgrade from my GH5. :) Thank you so much again.
It would be a HUGE upgrade from the GH5
Gh6 streaking was terrible for me at critical shoots. Gh7 is much better
It's useful only if you are working in high end video production or interested in getting into that
How about buffer for shot with CFexpress and SD cards?
i just bought gh7 and i am very disapointed that lumix removed almost all 4.3 modes. there are only 5.7k and a 4.4 pixel to pixel! mode which mean its not downsampled from 5.7 k but just cropped in which means reduced quality . ther is no real 4k 4.3 mode anymore i used with my gh5 all the time... i hope lumix will fix this with firmware updates
Oh sorry to hear that. I wonder what is the reason you need 4k 4:3 mode? I have never used that mode myself before, always use full resolution open gate so would love to hear what is your workflow/usage.
@@TheRealRichardWong open gate is 4.3 in mft cameras😸. I do client work and social media so 4.3 open gate is best for me
yeah sorry what i mean is why you don't want to use the 5.7k 4:3? there is more resolution and it's no crop. Is it because of the extra storage space?
I dare to consider myself an expert, and as an expert, I want to say that this person is also an expert and his words can be trusted.
Bummer, if this could do 60 fps open gate I would buy it in a second
man the gh6 colors looks good still hahah
yes of course!
What a monster of a review! Thank you for compiling all of this. Incredible, a GH7 Textbook ❤
Thank you very much!
Better image quality than Panasonic au eva1?
Another great video! Please can you test the buffer clearance speed on the GH7 vs G9II. I imagine the GH7 is quicker with the CF Express card.
that's a good suggestion! Unfortunately I've already returned the camera to Panasonic so can't really test it :(
Great work, Richard!
Thank you so much Hugh!!
Can you have a cage and still fit the xlr adapter with a top handle?
Is Raw video 10 bit or 12 bit?
With external recorder only 12 bit. Internally is 10 bit
haha great thumbnail! I hate these external monitors
I have the Atomos Ninja V but I tried my best to avoid using them outside my studio even when I really want to.
Hello Richard, is it possible to combine focus bracketing with the high res mode?
Sorry i have returned the GH7 so i can't check and answer your question
where is s1hm2?😂
Next week! Ok I am just kidding 😂. I want to know too
Hi Richard
Do you recommend Sony FX3 £2800 or GH7 with XLR adapter?
Sorry I can't answer as I haven't got a chance to do extensive test with the fx3 myself
For me the G9II does everything I need. Now if Lumix offers the extra trade in bonus like they did with the G9II ($500) I might trade in again and get the GH7.
Thanks Richard, your videos are always so helpful in choosing whether to upgrade or not.
thank you very much :)
Long time GH user so excited, but some questions:
However Panasonic has not sent me that new dummy battery for me to try/test
@@TheRealRichardWong:
Thanks for the response!
1. Great to know, looking forward to the updates on this. I would love to do an SSD setup on this
2. Yeah, I ultimately went with Area Detection later on. This was definitely a case of pushing it to see what it could do.
Sorry, I did stop watching cameras reviews until gx10 or similar are released.
no worries thanks for the comment!
Bài đánh giá hay quá ..thanks
Is the still photo quality(especially high ISO) same as of GH6/G9II?
is there going to be a new selection of glass to match? ...hopefully they will refine and shrink the MFT segment to minimize weight. ...otherwise, what's the point?
@@TheRealRichardWong the sad part is the hardware is capable, they just cripple it with lesser software :/ Thank you, you make good points.
Nice to see the yellow t-shirt getting more exposure!
Haha that matches my style perfectly, almost like you designed that specially for me Gordon!
There is never a more thorough review than a Richard Wong review!
Oh thank you so much
If I purchase the DMW-XLR2 will it allow 32 bit recording for the S5iix or does Lumix/Panasonic have to create firmware to allow 32 bit audio for S5iix?
Yes , the camera need to support it. So if the hardware can do it, still need new firmware
@@TheRealRichardWong thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed for the S5ii(x). That 32 bit audio is a game changer for the camera world
yes it is definitely! I care about it a lot more than internal ProRes RAW
I have just tested it on a S5II and a GH6, none of these cameras recognise the XLR2 with the current firmware I have
Low light performance? PLEASE ADDRESS THIS KEY ISSUE, THANKS!
You can check my G9II for some low light test, the sensor should be identical
@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for answering brother! All best!
You're making me look at Panasonic now! Can't afford all these different camera systems!
Does the GH6 receive external timecode through fresh?🤔
Thanks for the great review, Wong. I'd like to know how is Arri log working in GH7, look forward to your next review.
Is there a jack to plug in remote control for a flash?
there is a Flash Synchro Socket on the camera body. You could of course also use wireless hotshoe remote triggers like the Godox trigger
Please low light test😍
Hi and thank you for tour review !
How long it take to write all the 75fps when you shoot raw to complete the save to the cf express B ? i can't find this in your review 35:18
And can you shoot again when the files is in write like sony system or you need to wait until the end of the writing on the cf express B ?
Thank you for your answer
Epic big video on an epic big camera - saving started! I will own 5 bodies :-) will upgrade my GX9 to a GX9 II or GX10 with 25mp pdaf if they make one. Please pass it on to them :-)
Will do! I've been asking that too!
It is Great job!
Besides all the picture quality updates, for me is the new autofocus and the stabilisation important. If you travel A gimbal can be a pain in the ass. Handheld is the goal, fast lens change, lightweight
Yes for sure! However, the 32bit float audio is the most important improvement for me.
Have you done any rolling shutter tests?
Yes it's pretty much the same as the g9ii. So it's really good for a non stacked sensor
Richard. I wanted to ask. Can a person use the XLR2 on other Cameras like my GH9ii and GH6?
I just tried on G9II and GH6, with the current firmware I have, it does NOT work at all
Does the new xlr 2 adapter with the 3.5mm jack work on GH5 and GH6? Great review btw. GH7 looks like a fantastic camera, but in AUD / NZD it's a big purchase.
It's not "cheap" but there is no other camera in the market that can provide all these features at similar price or even double the price.
the XLR2 doesn't work on the GH6, not with the current firmware at least
no UFO detection mode. ..... pass
I think it was part of the original plan, but Lumix engineers later on found out they were struggling to find enough UFOs to train their AI algorithm
hahaha love the ending! "if this is what death is like, then maybe it's not so bad"
I love to see this ne mft camera :) i got the s5 now and miss a lot my small lenses.
Most sound mixing pros don’t want 32-bit float. They’ll ask for 24-bit. There’s a bit of professional disdain for it 🤷🏻
Oh I haven't heard of that before, why is it do you know? You have a lot more freedom and they can easily convert to 24 bit linear if they want.
It's interesting, I wonder what's their actual reason? It can't be audio quality.. so why 🤔
Car nut even more than camera nut here :-)
Send me your email adress i see what I can find and email you. I don't think i have that many photos.
Thank you so much! I always worried my English (which is my 2nd or 3rd language) is hard to understand. Glad to hear your feedback
Thank you for making perfect review, Richard!! Really happy to watch this review, love the specs of GH7, this is what i want,I will make a pre-order:)
Enjoy your gh7
Will any of the new GH7 come to the S5II series?
Is the new audio XLR adapter compatible with S5II?
I was not told anything. I would love to know too. But I think if it's technically possible , then Lumix would do it
Thanks for doing this review you are awesome 👍 I do wish they would have made 32bit float internal maybe the gh8?
Maybe suggest that to Sean at one of the Lumix Live livestream?
The last chapters are not "time coded" in the description of your video. Last one is "Ibis" 😉
And as always, excellent video to watch! 😊
Thanks for that! I've fixed it now. RUclips doesn't like anything > 60minutes
Nah its because sd card is much cheaper
Depends on what kind of SD card through. If we are talking about v90 cards, it's not actually cheaper than the slowest CFE card which is quite often just as fast
Much, much respect for such an in-depth review! And again, in a relatively short space of time. Thanks Richard! I’ll probably put in a pre-order
Thank you I hope you found this review useful
what about recording in the Gh7 with the FirstGen Adapter XL1... >?
I'm not sure. I checked with all the information I received, there is no mention of XLR1 support at all. I will update you if i got a solid yes/no from my contacts.
@@TheRealRichardWong I have the Xlr1 from my previews gh5... now that I am considering the upgrade to the gh7,,, i wonder this... it seems possible to me,,, yet panasonics could have locked the feature only to work with the new adapter... let me know if you have other news, thank you!
@@victorcarrera7335 yes will do. i will check with a few other contacts as well and see i got any confirmation from any of them.
okay i got reply from Panasonic, they told me XLR1 is compatible with GH7
Your reviews go the extra mile, Great evening watching when I'm relaxing before bed. Comment for the algorithm!
oh you are the best! I guess the length of my review can help you fall asleep as well :)
Check my G9II review, i have done some comparison tests there with the GH6 i believe.
Hi Richard @TheRealRichardWong
Thanks for the detailed review!
But I have a question, In your video you indicated that it in the "XLR + Camera" mode that it isn't possible to record 4 channels at 2496
But on the Panasonic website under the specs for the GH7 it seems to indicate that it is possible:
"MOV
Linear format: LPCM (4ch monaural 48kHz/24-bit, 96kHz/24-bit**)
*When attaching DMW-XLR2 (sold separately). **When attaching Φ3.5mm microphone or DMW-XLR2 (sold separately)."
Is it or is it not possible? Could your camera have outdated formware version?
Thanks
Bill
I can't get that to work. But i feel the spec could mean:
4ch monaural 48kHz/24-bit
or 96kHz/24-bit
@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for checking. Too bad, because I'd rather do 4 channels of 2496 (as I currently can do on my GH6) than 32bit float. I have a Sonosax SX-M2D2 with an excellent limiter so no worries about clipping.
King Richard returns again for another great review!
Richard, does the nose tapping affect the AF selection point using the rear screen?
If you don't enable touch AF then it's fine
I can tell you put a lot of work into your videos. I'm surprised all the improvements they added to GH7. I want one!
thank you, glad you enjoy the video.
Great video! Where'd you get that spacer for the Synco?
I was going to get it from local shops but no one has it in stock. So end up I ordered it from Aliexpress
@@TheRealRichardWong What's it called? Is it made as a spacer for shotgun mounts or something else?
@@karllautman search "microphone spacer" you should be able to find them :)
haven't finished your video but gonna say i'm very excited about arri log c3!!
if it's taking the RAW 12bit color data and writing that into arri logc3, that would be amazingggggggggggggg
truly hope it's not just color transforming vlog colors and just color transforming it to arrilogc3 in a LUT.
Dual Gain Architecture is 16 bit RAW Data not 12 bit
@@DuyTran-hy2kx oh nice. I didn't know that! i just assumed it was 12bit cause I remember someone pointing out that the raw photos from these lumix cameras were 12bit in a 14bit file.
So i assumed the full color bit depth of the sensor was 12bit. But hell yeah, would be nice if lumix worked with arri to process 16bits of sensor color information directly through ARRI's color science into a legal ArriLogC3 profile. 😍
exciting. might just get one.
Can we record 4 mono tracks using 3-XLR ports 1-3.5mm port on Camera? Basically, I mean 2 shotgun mics and 2 lav mic with 2 receiver?
There are 2 XLR ports and 1 3.5mm port on the XLR2 adaptor. That's the maximum number of input source you can use at the same time.
The 3.5mm port on the camera cannot record in 32 bit float. But the 3.5mm port on the XLR2 can

Wow, nice review, Does it have the timecode in port like in the GH5s? How the timecode menu options?
It should be the same as GH6. To be honest i haven't test that myself
