Hi Sam great vid. In terms of gym exercises which will help improve rope climbs would you say: Hanging knee/leg raises Bar hangs to increase forearm strength and endurance And some abductor work to clamp the rope is the vest thig to focus on?
@@benhutton6826 one of the reasons mate. But also from a practical point of view, say climbing over a wall it's better to have an over hand grip than a chin up grip.
Hey mate I’m nearly at the vpjft stage of my application and I’m trying to get the form of all my exercises as clean as possible but I’m struggling in identifying which is the correct plank form any help would be greatly appreciated
@@CompleteCommando cheers bud, what thickness is it please ? im going to buy one for my lad, we have a massive tree in the garden and it would be perfect for practice before he goes to CTC. The ropes are available on ebay but there are several thickness grades from 22mm through to 38mm
@@CompleteCommando cheers for the response. How did you find yomping? Its my only concern in terms of endurance, are shorter legs a disadvantage according to you, and also how much did you weigh throughout training? Im about 66kg at the moment, 1 kg over the minimum 😂 But I am around 12% bodyfat so ive got some time to pack on some more muscle and weight on my frame
@@filipvelkov6829 - I'm 176cm and had no dramas with the yomping (speed marching was a nightmare though, but that was more about my lungs than my height!). I'm a broad lad and was a lean 83kg at the start of training and a very lean 78kg at the end. Lots of taller fitter lads than me didn't pass and a couple of shorter skinnier guys did. It's all about your Heart and Bottle buddy not your height and BMI.
@@CompleteCommando I m looking forward to get answer on that one and I have already started and it’s been muscle memory for me now . Try the way u did I struggle so much even with basics . Thank u very much
Why do I feel like the Royal Marines made a high emphasis on the rope climb because many of them during militarized evolution could not climb well. It's like having a Filipino stay in the cold like a Russian during war and on the flip side thru human habit trying to get a Russian to climb like someone from nipal or Tibet. maneuverability equals survivability. Very helpful thanks sam
Good to hear mate 🙏
Good to see you Sam, really glad you're doing well mate. Great video
Had lad in training that decided to let go at the top when asked why when he laid in sickbay “he didn’t want to get rope burn’ 😫
Now he has no ankles. Horrendous ain’t it. Seen it too lads ankles turnt to dust.
Sam don’t forget it’s also essential for boarding ships 🚢 otherwise you get very wet 😂
@@davecorbett4433 haha yer roger Dave good shout!
That is really good rope training
I wish I’d known this when I applied 🤯 and I’m to old now or I’d apply again 😔
Reserves have a later age limit. Try them.
Very detailed info, nice one 👍
Thank you mate
Thankyou.
No worries mate

Yep all of the above mate spot on. Also sit ups with knees firmly together and my personal favourite: pull ups off a towel.
@@CompleteCommando thanks mate will defo try the pullups with the towel 💪
@@jamiedyett2625 nice one mate.. gives you grip like a bear 😂
Sam Logan Fitness is this the reason for the over hand pull ups to get ur forearm strength up?

That’s a smooth rope not the bottom fields one. In shorts 🥺
haha Roger
What training do you have to do for the Royal marines cadets adult volunteer
I'm not entirely sure, best to get in touch with Royal Marines cadets to be honest mate.
I was alway taught long shift short shift hand on top ( That’s the use of the hands )
I always thought it was short shift long shift hands on top. Was 35 years ago like
What about short shift long shift one hand on top 😂 good vid 👍🏻

Sam Logan Fitness ok thanks will do

30 foot at lympstone this is 17 I think

Quick question - how tall are you Sam? Im 5'9 on a good day so it gives me confidence if someone else can do it haha
5'8 at tops mate. The two fittest men ever are both roughly that size too. Mat Fraser and Rich Froning. Height being helpful is a myth mate.

@@JammyDodger45 Exactly it mate! Hit the nail on the head.
I'm 6'2 which is a pain in the arse, heard it makes it harder for distance running
That's just ROTC training other than the real wall to climb but no one climbs it.
Alot of them say to hell with it.
Is it alight if I put opposite leg
Thats a good question which Im not actually sure. Let me see if I can find out. My thought is no as its about unison but will try find out.

The answer is no mate you can’t. Has to be done the left foot infront
