This entire Bridge of Sighs album from 1974 is a masterpiece, each and every one of its 8 cuts stands on its own merits, with Lady Love and Day of the Eagle leading the way. This was Robin Trower's breakthrough LP after he departed Procol Harem in summer of '71, the band is the quintessential power rock/blues trio with Trower on that masterful Hendrix- influenced guitar, bassist James Dewar's incredible vocals, and Reg Isidore on those tight drums. Asia & BJ you will love the rest of this album, guaranteed -- hope you eventually react to all of it! 🔥 💯 😎

Undeniably! Remember hearing the title cut for the first time and being blown away by the heaviness of Robin’s chords on that song and then the rest was pure killer and no filler.

it sure is, and I hope Trower is enjoying the attention it's getting decades later. But as great as it is, I thought Twice Removed was even more intense, probably because that was the first time I heard James Dewar. His previous band Stone The Crows didn't get much attention.

I fell in love with Robin Trower's guitar playing when I discovered Procol Harum back in 1969. I loved their classical influence, all those pianos and organs, but somehow Trower's bluesy rock guitar stood out. He was so guitar rockin' he eventually had to go on his own - and here we are! Thanks Asia and BJ.

Always nice to see someone appreciating Trower. As everyone's saying, this whole albums smokes. Think you've already done Too Rollin Stoned. I'd suggest Little Bit of Sympathy, Trower still closes his shows w/ this one now (when he's touring, which probably was pre-covid). James Dewar was one of the great singers, maybe the most under appreciated singer from back in the day.

One of the great guitar albums of all time, all 8 songs are awesome. Trower is a fusion of Blues and Rock, he is an utter advertisement for Fender Stratocaster guitars. From that album, do the title cut, Bridge of Sighs, or Too Rolling Stoned and Little Bit of Sympathy. Robin is British and was in late 60s prog pioneers Profile Harum. One of the greats, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶

You MUST play this Trower tune. "In This Place-(John Peel Session) It will knock your socks off. Yes the version on Bridge of Sighs Album is incredible but the John Peel Session version is incredible, insane. Also do Bridge Of Sighs and Little Bit Of Sympathy and Althea.

Saw them in 1975 when all this music was relatively brand new, was really impressed. The next day purchased all the albums they had released to that point Robin Trower was very good at that style of playing and had great tone and feel. Your jaw would drop, and eyes widen when James Dewar started singing, you could not believe that voice would come out of such a small individual. Both Isidore and Lordan were very good drummers. They heavily influenced music through the 70s, especially amongst the working cover bands.
I would categorize their music as Power Rock … Love you guys

I have never once had a reaction team react to a song I specifically suggest. But I suppose hope springs eternal so here goes:
Santana ( _whom I know you really liked and "got"_ ) did a song in the 80's called " *_Winning_*. Still one of my favorite pick-me-up-when-I'd-feeling-down songs. I think Alex Ligertwood is the lead vocalist. Santana is playing a Telecaster so there's a tone to his playing that we don't hear anymore. I really think you'll both dig it. Peace and love to you both.

This song came off of the album Bridge Of Sighs- 1974(one of my all time favorite albums) which was Robin Trowers' tribute to Jimi Hendrix(you pronounced Trowers name correctly{rhymes w/"flowers"})- you could/should review every song on that album....I've seen him 5 times live- you need to check out an (early)live performance(original band line-up) to see the entire band in action. ....Great choice/song selection...this music genre is Blues based progressive guitar rock(Led Zeppelin - AC/DC)....good review - thx(Robin Trowers' earlier band contribution was with Procol Harum)(songs "Whiter Shade Of Pale"/"Conquistador" - 1967) both songs would be excellent review choices...

Nice to see the natural reaction and listening to most of this song throughout! I felt the same way, and still do after buying the album! People were comparing him to Hendrix at the time, day of the eagle ‘song’. most of rock is builds off the blues scale, but not really in the blues genre. Hendrix changed all that with his great for me talent and command of volume, and unbelievable creativity. Listen to “Fire”on Hendrix first album. Also some great grooves, Robin Trower for earth below album (a tale, untold )and (going to be more suspicious! )Check it out!😊

I am a huge Trower fan. Do "Too Rolling Stoned" and "Daydream" off the Live album. The late jimmy Dewar's vocals are incredible, and my buddy Bill Lordan (yes I know him) replaced Reg Isadore on Drums, and it was a big improvement. Robin is one of the top blues rock guitarists on the planet yet he cant get in to the Rock and Roll hall of fame when many lesser talents can. If you want a nice experience, download his album "Victims of the Fury", turn the lights down, grab some wine, and give it a listen, I think you will love it.

The Bridge of Sighs is a beautiful connecting bridge over a canal in Venice. In the 1600s the bridge was the last view of the outside world for prisoners until their sentence was kept or they awaited execution. It was said that the prisoners would gasp or sigh as they walked across its tiny length.

Robin Trower ex guitarist of Procul Harem, why he isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame escapes me. He filled the gap after the death of Hendrix who was one of his idols. Saw him on this tour and 4 more after that a great 3 man band. James Dewar bass/vocals was one of the best. He opened up the blues to a whole new generation. So lucky to grow up in this era of music was lucky enough to see everyone except Zeppelin. Listen to the whole album not a bad song on it one of the best of the 70's

Most of Robin's guitar solo's were played in the "midrange",.... a sound that was hard to achieve back then,... he learned to do this.. while playing with the keyboard sound's of Procal Harem's Gary Brooker,.... in 1973... he would take his "uni-vibe" modified "organ" sounding guitar,... on a solo career,... which continue's to this day,... over 50 year's later... and STILL... instantly recognizable..........

Wore this album out as a teenager. And FWIW, pronounce his name, Trower, as in "Tr-Hour". As in, "OW" that sumbitch can play. I heard bad management kept him from being the next Hendrix. Asia got it right- "bluesy rock."

Try "A Little Bit Of Sympathy" off that album. Trower was part of the psychedelic rock genre. NOT Southern rock.

BJ, I'm amazed that you can sit next to Asia and not grin the whole time.
