Eric Bugenhagen was one of the first freaks to do those behind deadlifts and put them on YT, a long time ago - way before his WWE career or RUclips (mini)fame. :) Edit: corrected Eric's name.

Like her, deadlifts hit my lower back more. I just stood while the video played and simulated the hack version with strong resistance band. I'm adding this back in to my lifts! thanks Eugene! Thank god for this video, Eugene. For the longest time I've been trying to find someone who explains that your anatomy can affect the way you deadlift. I'm 34 years old and I find that Sumo Deadlifts are just better for me. Conventional deadlifts tend to hurt my lower back, and at this age the last thing I need is more lower back pains.
A deadlift is essentially an isometric in a neutral position for your lower back, that shouldn’t be causing pain. To work on this I would extend the range of motion and drop the weight, not avoid moving your lower back. Thats an injury waiting to happen.
Sumos are better because they're easier. I'm 36 and aside from DOMs after deadlifts I feel no pain, but I don't ego lift. 1 to 2 plates per side with full ROM and controlled eccentric. You do not need super heavy weights for slow and controlled deadlifts.
@@cant_Comment I only do conventional, Apologies if it sounded like I was suggesting sumo. You should just do the exercise that feels the best that can overload the muscle group you're targeting anyway

@@KryzysX well you must look at the setup and his conventional strength, 420kg conventional, and when he does it behind the back the bar bends so much, to where the bar is just below his knees and the plates are still on the floor. Omigod, thank you for this. I've recently gotten into lifting (about 3 months) and deadlifts have been a sore spot for me. My boyfriend has been instructing me on proper form, and has been telling me that I should be feeling it in my legs (obviously). If conventional DL hurts your lower back switch over to Hex Bar dead-lifts instead, your back will thank you for it, plus you can normally lift more weight. I only DL for practical strength and nothing works better for all over strength than Hex Bar DL's. Plus you can use the Hex Bar to do Farmer's Walks, another great all over strength exercise.
It's great for variety, but the hack is more a replacement for the convention squat. Deadlift is a hinge exercise for your back glutes and hamstrings and the hack is a press exercise that is quad dominant.. the only similarity is you are lifting weight off the floor.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I used to hit hack lifts back in the day and as you said they’re pretty much all quads, whereas deadlifts are all posterior chain. Hacks make more sense as a squat replacement you’re totally right.
