@Abhinav Banerjee he wants Brigitte to get reworked, he only said Brigitte should be deleted to bring light on the topic and it's working, that's why your commenting
100% agree, when I was first getting into Jaynes content (back before he was a coach, when his content was viewer vod reviews) he got off on a tangent about Pharahs boosters and ended up doing a 20min guide/tutorial on proper booster management and mechanics and stuff like that and I remember after watching the whole thing thinking "Wtf am I doing here? I'm a support main, I don't even play pharah!" LOL.
All of these are amazing. I wish more people saw these, they're so insightful and there's really no answer to them at all anywhere else on youtube, and I'm not sure that there is anything similar on twitch either.
The topic "Keeping people intrested in the esports" is so intresting to me. I've been talking to my girlfriend and my friends about this in relation to how "normal" sports like football (soccer) or Icehockey still manage to keep the masses intrested. I think there are a lot of similarities and I'm thinking about writing my Bachelor degree on this topic :) Great podcast, haven't finished it yet but keep up the good work all of you SVB, Jayne, Andygmb and Freedo
"I haven't seen anyone succeed on casual content" One of my favorite creators for SC2 is Winter, who often goes on at length about how most of the people who follow his twitch don't play the game or only play PvE, they're just Twitch Grandmasters. What I want to see--which is definitely a "casual appeal" piece of content--is a creator that makes an Overwatch version of Winter's Bronze League Heroes. Open up a replay of a pleb game (not necessarily bronze, we all have a little bronze league-er in our heart of hearts even if we're in GM), sarcastically kind-of cast it like you would a competitive game, craft storylines, make predictions on the bronze-league mistakes you expect to see, and generally just have a good time laughing at the silly things players do. Stylosa has something slightly adjacent to this idea with a Bronze Heroes series, but even then he spends more time analyzing and coaching than roasting and having a good time.
LUL, I write this comment and like 2 days later Jayne is casting a bronze game in a RUclips vod. When do I get an official position on the team? (J/K I'm sure that show match had to be arranged/recorded much further ahead of time than when I made my comment) Though to be fair, I really think the concept works better on replays than in a live cast. Being able to rewind and really focus on those bronze moments has a lot more comedic potential than in a live cast where you wind up with "oh yeah and I guess that guy did a funny while we were busty hyping ten seconds ago"
As a fairly new streamer myself who just hit affiliate, this kind of information is invaluable. This is my favorite episode you've done thus far and I'm very excited to continue seeing more of your content.
Couldn't agree more about the potential of OW. When you get 4 good lobbies in a row, close games, team mates who com and are willing to switch comps and not point fingers, nail biting overtimes... it's an unreal gaming experience. So when it's disjointed and toxic it feels 10x worse than it should because the peak experience of the game is so incredible.
So fucking good. @SVB, keep it up dude. this discussion was not just good for the brain but good for the heart. These are the discussion the community needs because it not only humanizes the individuals who people see as leaders in the community, but it also shows that this process is not clean cut- and intersects with so many aspects of existence (Mental wellbeing, finances, macro economics, attention, ect). You have changed this space drastically, and i hope it continues.
I'd like to ask these guys a thousand questions. There should be a post debate cool down interview with each contributor to analyze how they thought the "debate" went. So we could see a distillation of what they got out of it. For instance, if Ranked is just QP+ and you don't have to join VC to get Top 500, why on earth wouldn't you play it exclusively (provided you aren't tied to your SR). I wouldn't even call it grinding the ladder. It'd just be place where people rando'd harder. And Freedo would probably listen with that hilarious RBF which doesn't match his voice at all. You rock, Freedo and Jayne. I've watched every video. You guys are more fun than the game.
Also I'm a GOLD pleb and I would LOVE tournaments at my rank, even if I got to solo q and it paired me with strangers in my SR it'd still be amazing... once a week... Friday Throwdown Tournament in GOLD... throwing every game on path to victory. Great content SVB you're becoming the backbone of content by bringing the other creators together so much.
I sort of agree with you...that would be really fun. But one comment I have heard against that idea that Blizzard would have to address is the issue of smurfs purposely ranking low on alt accounts and entering that type of tournament. Not that it isn't a solveable problem, but without a solution I can imagine that it would be a huge discouragement for a lot of people.
Jayne around 1:54 is talking about how to use one piece of content several times and thats something that garyvee has talked about alot. just thought it was cool insight!
Awesome content as usual. I can’t help but feel that ML7 should come back to do a real support debate. This topic is kind of what you guys spent time talking about in the one he was in.
Can't agree more on the split community part. As someone who doesn't follow streams on twitch, you introduced me to names as Bogur, Mushu, Holiwhirl etc. Thanks for that and the amazing content! # Believe in the Bogur that believes in you!
RE: season decay: Did you forget that they used to drop everyone a couple hundred SR lower at the start of every season? People (including me) HATED that. Ranked is such a dice roll anyway, it feels like shit getting dropped SR so you can "enjoy the experience of climbing," still getting match-made with the same players so it's not like you'll be able to easily climb out, and being at the whims of the RNG gods whether you actually get back to where you were. Just in general I wish they would stop matchmaking with MMR. For extreme cases sure--boost SR gains/losses on smurfs/bought accounts. However, if players are shit MMR they should drop SR, they shouldn't get carried by a matchmaker that keeps pairing them against other low MMR players. Part of the reason ranked feels like shit is that if you improve MMR it pits you against better players without giving you any visible feedback that you've improved. Getting better without seeing any feedback in-game doesn't feel good.
Ive picked up OW again recently. This time on PC where as before i was on xbox. I just play QP. I have no care for Comp. I just love content like this. I guess that make me an outlier.
@44:00 I had this discussion during a 9-8 Numbani game. After we got run over to tie us up at 3-3 one of the guys just said "God I hate this game, i dont know why I bother playing." And it was echo'd "Yeah same" by myself and 2 others. I added "It's ordering the chocolate cake at the end of a big dinner. We love chocolate cake which is why we're here, but we've already eaten so much we're just eating it to justify the cost of the order... Its a "hate eating of dessert."
Can't believe I watched the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. I hope there is more. Also I think SVB should grow out a curly mustache, it would suit him.
Some of that talk about advertising attempting to morph into a grisly mockery of an Internet entertainer completely tracks. Madison Avenue has generally been well ahead of the curve on trying out ways to hook way deep into your brain, and this is them being uncharacteristically late.
I'd be completely fine with Freedo's idea of getting rid of ranked completely IF there was an improvement to quick play or an alternate mode where you can have the same ask/answer ability that you do in comp. Completely honestly, that's the only reason I play comp. I love having the ability to try to come back and win a payload map as opposed to accepting that last second team fight as a loss.
For me OW just isn't that fun anymore, even in a 6 stack. So much sustain, feels like keeping tanks up is the only thing that matters. Too many hero's do too much.
Zenyatta’s Transcendence needs to be able to cleanse and create immunity to Anna’s nades debuff! Spread the word! It’s his Ult and should not be able to be countered by a normal ability! I wish more people would bring this up. Everyone wants to talk about Baptists lamp which could also use some reworking (I liked the idea of having it just reduce the damage people take by %50 and then with that also maybe increase it’s radius to somewhat make up for it and also decrease the CD of his aoe heal cd). But I wish more people would bring up Zen’s Ult being weak. I think it should cleanse the nade as well as maybe even giving something like a %30 damage reduction to people in it to make it less likely for stuff like rip tire to kill people threw it. Just my opinion not that anyone asked. He’s easily killed as it is anyways give him some love.
I understand where you're coming from but I disagree. Since I think that is probably the biggest play you can have on Ana. If zen cleansed the anti then there would be almost nothing to stop it. (Your tanks could technically shield the healing from the team or displace zen away from the team but those are very difficult and inefficient plays. I see it like this: Ana has to first have the nade ready. If it's on cool down then zen won't have to worry about thier Ana. Second and more importantly it has to connect. The Ana could just straight up miss or could the nade gets eaten by dva or hits it a shield. There and many things that stops the nade from connecting or connecting effectively. As a zen player I know it's frustrating to have your ult negated like that but I think all support ults have some counter play. Look at lucio it just breaks my heart to see my beat just vanish by getting hacked during the animation or the more frequent counter emp. I do like the baptist idea though!
I like the discussion of removing ranked modes. In the fighting game community, your online rank means little to nothing. What matters is whether or not you can beat someone's ass and/or win tournaments. Your skill is less measured by a number and more by actual ability and play and the drive is to be better, not just have a higher number. I think sometimes games should appeal to a wide audience and then let people who want to be competitive sort themselves out (like CoD at the beginning of the podcast).
I disagree about removing rank in fighters if anything it needs to have seasons example is you made it to the top of the ladder with Chun in sfv season 1 could you have done it with her in season 2 after balance adjustments? Without rank there's less incentive to try or keep playing.
i think the main reason people try to get back into playing overwatch is because they remember the good times when they carried on genji or they made a cool play on ana or something skillful and carried. the reason people stop playing is because of things like STUNS, losing too UNSKILLFUL HEROES and SHIT MAPS. STUNS: this is how the experience goes when i return to playing overwatch. I play a match and choose tracer, 2 or 3 of the enemy team switch to brig, mcree, roadhog, moira. now i have to dodge 3 potential stuns and now the game goes from skill vs skill to not wanting to play the game anymore. UNSKILLFUL HEROES: or i'm playing genji and they pick moira and winston and i have to basically avoiding fighting a hero because that enemy requires low skill vs my genji that pretty much loses 9/10 times. again causing me to stop wanting to play. SHIT MAPS: hanamura, numbani, paris, temple of anubis, watchpoint gibraltar, rialto. all fucking trash and makes me want to stop playing the game
So, I'd love to know if these type of videos make more money per viewer on twitch (as a vod) or here. I end up watching VOD channels for a few streamers cause life interferes, and I'd rather support you and other streamers in the way that suits you best, since it doesn't impact me either way
So my account was just suspended. I’m one of those that put my heart and soul into trying to win while playing my comp games weather it’s role que, open que, (no limits is actually my favorite and I wish they would allow a permanent version of competitive no limits) I peaked as diamond in role que support and high plat diamond and tank. Anyways... for anyone that cares to read my rant. I was just playing a game of open que and decided to be a team player and fill as the solo support as Mercy because no one else wanted to. Normal right? Well we did great the first round attacking watch point gibraltar. Then while defending the enemy team ran a Pharah. We had a Mei and Hitscan but when the enemy swapped to Pharah our hit scan actually swapped off and went to Sym... Now here I am supporting a team that is getting dunked on by a pharmacy so I ask my Mei and Sym for one of them to please swap to something that can contest the pharmacy or let’s run a pharmacy of our own and they get mad and tell me my heals suck and I am the reason we are now losing :( I then swapped to a hitscan which we then had no support and we lost and then they reported me and my account is now suspended and I get to miss out on my chance to get these sweet winter wonderland skins :( Idk what I was hoping to do by typing this. Maybe someone can relate? I just want team mates that also want to make an effort at winning. I’m all for cheese comps I actually love them but also swap when being hard countered. My fav characters to play are Zarya, Torb, Roadhog, Winston, Sombra, Mei, Mercy, and Bastion, sometimes Orisa or Lucio See all for the off meta hero’s but man. I’m depressed now.
I forgot I also play a pretty mean Pharah myself. As you can see in my hero pool I specialize in projectiles more so than hitscan which is why when I decide to take the time to form a 6 stack if I’m playing damage I look for a good hitscan player to fill the other roll.
I mean okay sucks to get shitty teammates but Blizzard doesn’t suspend someone just for one game, they only suspend repeat offenders who have been reported by multiple players. In fact, the report system is generally mild and they rarely take action against players unless obvious foul play is involved. They would not have suspended you just for switching your hero in one game so the real reason behind your suspension would be something else.
Yes, me playing off meta hero causes players to flame and false report me pretty often. Stuff like “we are losing swap off Sombra” while I maintain over a 65% win rate on her. Then if I don’t swap I get reported. Keep in mind I do swap if I feel I can do more on another hero and often do but I do not base my opinion on some tilted teammate that is only tilted because we are losing. Because believe it or not me being Sombra is often times not why we are losing. It may be my team staggering in, it may be a rein charging in, it may be out other dps picking Echo and sucking at her. It may be our Anna playing Anna into a heavy dive comp (Winston/ball/exc) and having horrible aim and putting out almost zero heals or offensive nades. But I get reported. So am I not allowed to play the game because I want to play Sombra? Even though I promise you that’s not why we are losing in many situations and team mates get tilted and just report to report.
Genuine question: Is voice chat really that toxic for most people? My experience has been quite positive for a year or probably two now. I play in NA, West coast. Plat and Diamond, depending on my roles. Or even Gold and borderline Silver when I que up with lower rank friends. It's been good on weekdays as well as weekends. Sure you get some silly ones every now and then, but that is to be expected for any online platform. My general experience has been really good even on lost games. If anything, I'd learned that as long as you're positive, and is nice to people, most players are good.
Playing on east coast console and being on solo q plat throughout most of my time in my four year of playing, I think it has been a bit of more of the same with vc. I'd say about maybe half of my games there are people who comm something. That being said I now comm in all my games just calling out low targets, ult tracking or if there is a flanker etc and try to keep things positive. I find the more I comm the more comfortable others feel to speak so I generally take the initiative. Things only get toxic if someone starts pointing fingers and that starts petty arguments, I do my best to try to get the team to focus when that happens. If I don't speak then there is higher chance of games being silent in my experience. Over time being a tank solo queuer I think has broke my mental because I just no longer get tilted over poor individual plays and instead try to lift up the spirits of my team with compliments when I notice good play. So I guess this was a long winded way to say that voice chat is reflective of your attitude. I find it rare for someone to be toxic with me nowadays.
If just Jayne was doing GMSR, it would be boring quick. Participating and trying to guess with chat and upstage that sarcastic arse Jayne is 80%+ of enjoyment.
Four people might be too many. Either someone rarely speaks up and SVB has to work to get them back in, or everyone wants to say something (and SVB as the host lets them go first).
What have they actually done to develop the game since day 1. Like they started with an incredible game.but they never really built on that amazing base. The same recycled bullshit all the time. Heres your new heroes for the year
just a thought, but what if the 10m monthly active users are just the couple hundred thousand people, but every time they go offline and start playing again, it counts as another user?
I actually think overwatch could benefit a system supercell just integrated into there game. Which is they are ditching there esports league and the money involved will go to the players who top the leader boards each season. So while some will lose guarenteed paychecks. This encourages players to actually play a part of the game that once was meaningless in the longrun
Oh and the top (x (i think around 1000 each season))players each season will be invited to play in a tournament at the end of x seasons, for a 1 million dollar grand prize. Season wins are 75k dollars i believe. Top x players paid out each season

I honestly genuinely love this podcast. A bunch of passionate people talking about Overwatch for a few hours? Hell yeah, sign me up!

So, I'd love to know if these type of videos make more money per viewer on twitch (as a vod) or here. I end up watching VOD channels for a few streamers cause life interferes, and I'd rather support you and other streamers in the way that suits you best, since it doesn't impact me either way
Couldn't agree more. I end up just leaving twitch open to support streamers even if I am doing something else. Gotta support the community!
Is this coming out as a pod as well? As the other ones?
Now here I am supporting a team that is getting dunked on by a pharmacy so I ask my Mei and Sym for one of them to please swap to something that can contest the pharmacy or let’s run a pharmacy of our own and they get mad and tell me my heals suck and I am the reason we are now losing :(
I then swapped to a hitscan which we then had no support and we lost and then they reported me and my account is now suspended and I get to miss out on my chance to get these sweet winter wonderland skins :(
Idk what I was hoping to do by typing this.
Maybe someone can relate?
I just want team mates that also want to make an effort at winning.
I’m all for cheese comps I actually love them but also swap when being hard countered.
My fav characters to play are Zarya, Torb, Roadhog, Winston, Sombra, Mei, Mercy, and Bastion, sometimes Orisa or Lucio
See all for the off meta hero’s but man.
I love Has.
If just Jayne was doing GMSR, it would be boring quick. Participating and trying to guess with chat and upstage that sarcastic arse Jayne is 80%+ of enjoyment.
Moar Bogur, pls! Love the content!
If that were the case they’d be able to tell. They would at least have IP address info on their players.
@Abhinav Banerjee then where do u think the 10m players are?
gaming moment
I actually think overwatch could benefit a system supercell just integrated into there game. Which is they are ditching there esports league and the money involved will go to the players who top the leader boards each season. So while some will lose guarenteed paychecks. This encourages players to actually play a part of the game that once was meaningless in the longrun
Oh and the top (x (i think around 1000 each season))players each season will be invited to play in a tournament at the end of x seasons, for a 1 million dollar grand prize. Season wins are 75k dollars i believe. Top x players paid out each season
no voice comms could actually be good
Just popped on to thumbs down another jayne one
why don’t you like Jayne?
