If you play alone I recommend adding both the revive that Phil mentioned but also to the decrep curse for boss control. If Infinity for the merch is too expensive you can use Obedience or anything else with crushing blow for bosses.
For summoning stronger skeletons I would suggest using HOTO or Spirit at the beginning. After you summon them, you can swap to beast and theirs better stats remain. Also, if you are very rich and want to have much stronger army you can try Pride for your golem. It would give your minions level 16-20 Concentration aura, so additional 285%-345% boost in damage. Unfortunately, it is very risky approach because if you or your golem dies, you would lose Cham, Sur and Lo runes xD
iron golem just never dies unless you do pride is tricky because of its freeze target buff, I dont really like it. infinity, by lowering phys res is better than the concentration aura from pride personally I always cast irongolem from beast, infinity on merc and the marrowwalk reg a little bit of mana but I do chug potion when raising the army and long teleport

I prefer Flickering flame to shako for these reasons; -10 to -15% enemy fire res boost the corpse explosion fire damage. +3 corpse explosion from +3 fire skills. Resist fire aura just makes you and your army immune to fire.
Hi, summoner main here. I've tested tons of possible necro builds. Using Bramble on a summoner necro is such a common mistake. Please don't do this and here is why. First, let's keep the low players count (/p1-/p3) games out of our conversation at all here - summoner clears the whole screen with CE in a matter of seconds there anyways. Now, when the player count increases, the monsters life and their damage do not scale proportionally. Their life has a much much bigger scale comparing to their damage - they won't suicide themselves by Thorns aura as fast as you are expecting. You can check this by doing a simple test. Put a Bramble on your merc, set the players count to /p7-/p8, summon your army, go to the secret cow level, curse the cows with amplify damage and see how much damage do they take just from Thorns. Spoiler: extreeeemely low damage, I promise you will want to cry seeing the result (and this is taking into account that the secret cow level is potentially the best area for your Thorns build: no ranged mobs, no elemental damage, just a map of pure melee physical monsters). In other areas full of ranged or non physical monsters it will perform even worse. Just use the Forties on your merc whenever you can. And the Infinity is really the way here to scale your necro on /p7-/p8.
You're absolutely correct. Don't forget to build Infinity in an eth superior Mancatcher and socket a 15ias/30fire res jewel in the eth Andy's. Finally, eventually get a 20fcr/2nec crafted ammy with 20fcr/2nec circ and GG FCR ring to rock 125fcr with Beast equipped. The only 2 slots which give you variation at that point are dealer's choice on boots - I suggest WaterWalk for huge life/dex boost and +5% to max fire res, but other popular boots are War Travs, Marrowwalk, Sandstorm, Natalya Boot, Aldur's, Silkweave, or GG Tri-Res are all excellent options. Finally, the ring slot for your non-fcr ring will either be RavenFrost if you absolutely cannot stand being frozen, SoJ, or Wisp if you feel like paying a fortune to repair it because those spirits die whenever a demon so much as farts in the wind.
Nice info. Is there a summon necro build in particular you like best? I've only played off and on since Resurrected and used MrLlama's summon build but I like the look of this one too.
@@Guanjyn The MrLlama's build on icy veins is good, however he is suggesting to max clay golem there, while I prefer Iron golem for an extra aura. If you have access to the Beast for your main weapon + Infinity for merc, then I would create an iron golem from Insight. If you're on budget (like HOTO/Leoric/spirit/whatever + insight for merc) then I'd create iron golem from Hustle weapon for cheap Fana aura. Note: you don't max iron golem, you only care about his life and it's golem mastery which scales it. Also, 1 point in revive is usually enough. All my extra points which left I put into amplify damage to increase range (a bit of QOL).
Just any insight. well I take that back. You can't make iron golem out of bows so any polearm insight. Since now you can make insights in bows I just want to make sure no one gets confused by that.
I have a question, what if instead of you make insight iron golem, make "holy freeze" or "pride" iron golem (or put pride to merc and make infinity golem?) and put a phoneix shield instead of spirit? phoneix also sucks up mana plus it gives -28% To Enemy Fire Resistance. and about FCR, maybe you can get it from caster amulet instead of mara's? And flickering flame helmet instead of shaco? And Heart of the oak just to summon your skelly's and later switch to beast? you already have spirit shield off hand so when you summon skelly's you can also do it with this shield too adding by heart of the oak on there. As for the skills, assuming you have 110 in total, isn't it better to put only 10 points to amplify damage? so you can put 1 point to decripify, 1 point to revive, and remaining 10 points to blood golem just to keep your iron golem alive because of +%5 life per level and even 1 point into fire golem to get +%6 bonus damage?? or maybe put those points into revive instead of blood golem so you can have more monsters too for crushing blow.
Frst of all. You don’t want cold damage on your summoner because it stops you from using CE when enemy’s shatter. 2 not many are ballsy enough to infinity or pride a golem. Because who wanna lose that on accident if you pop on accident. 75 fcr is perfectly good for sumnmon necro. Maras gives up to 30 all res and +2 skills. Also, even if you were considering a weapon swap for summon and switch back you would use something like arm of King leorks with a + 5 to summons and mastery’s. As for golem, if I was you with your pride or infinity golem. Idk just me but I would surely try to max out blood golem, but why do that when you’re just hurting your killing speed? Lol I like where your heads at but. Problem with your Idea is your crippling your killing speed a ton and not cost effective.
Yeah I don't feel the need to have so much in the amp skill. Like Phil said - I want to have 1 point in decrepify, lower resist, and revive since I also do Bosses and Ubers with this build.
Put 1 point in to Bone Shield, the rest in to Bone Wall -- why? -- because they give the exact same bonus, *but* increasing Bone Shield increases the mana cost of the skill. ALSO -- casting Bone Wall will aggro mobs from 1-2 screens away, which is so nice for farming with Corpse Explosion.
Hey sweet Phil I got a question. I have an infinity, beast ,doom and pride. What is the absolute best possible scenario at DPS using these runewords for my merc and iron golem? Could I use beast to make iron golem and then equip something else for myself?. What would you do ?( I'm not afraid to lose any items if my golem dies)
If you play as Necromancer using thorns or just regular one it is very very important to buy gloves with multishot charges from vendors and adding just one long duration psn charm. This will prevent monsters from healing which is a huge factor in hell on higher players count. You should also boost yourself to have nice % to hit. People tend to ignore monster regen which means your summons have to spend more time killing monsters then they should. If you go to hell on lets say level 70 your skeletons will have what 63% to hit rouges and if you are using might merc that means all those misses give monsters time to regain their lost health while with multishot + psn charm you shut that down.
5:33 decrep is amazing early game but late game isnt needed. There are reasons to get it late game but that also depends on what you're wanting to do with the build.
I play D2R single player on Switch since it got out. In the beginning this would seem crazy expensive, now I can make it (already have Beast). Thanks for the Endgame build videos.
OK. I have a question on that build. Why "Beast" and not "Faith"? "Faith" have 12-15 "Fanaticism" aura and the other one is max 9, and also it has 1-2 all skill levels which is overall better for casters! "Faith" also have +15 all res...
Faith is really expensive especially when making one without an Amazon base. I like king of leoric with with faith base…. They really need to let act 5 mercy use axes!
recently I did my first single player uber tristram and.. I got 19 20 necro.. bitter sweet because I don't even have necro. This summoner looks kinda nice. I have question: are might and fanatism aura won't interfere witch each other ?
They dont interfere. I've been playing a summon Necro for 20 years. I would recommend an Act 1 Merc with Bramble and Edge Bow over Infinity, for the extra Thorns stack, and it's cheaper.
I feel like you're wasting points in Amp Damage. The radius and duration are pretty good even at half the amount of hard skill points that you used for AD (Though I never use more than 1 point into AD), considering how little mana it takes to cast. Similarly for CE, maybe pour some points into Skeletal Mage if you're going for a Summonmancer.
It is great that people are still playing SINGLE PLAYER and making videos. I might do this build, I have only made one Necro Summoner in D2 in like +20years and that was an untwinked SSF build.
Pretty big waste of a slot that comes with a huge nerf to your fire res. Sundered enemies still have -95% fire dmg reduction, and the conviction only works at 1/5 efficacy vs sundered enemies. Your CE is still going to be dealing almost entirely phys damage to fire sundered enemies.
If you're running cows and such, this build is great. Ifnrunning bosses though, I recommend changing out the infinity for Pride and maxing out revives instead of CE.
@@edgardomella833If your merc is running Bramble and Edge, bosses kill themselves on your minion, they do 4x damage to minions, which means 4x damage to themselves, up to a level 36 Thorns, with both Bramble and Edge, add Amp Damage and gg.
I know it "Seems" like having half the radius isn't a big deal on amp. But in use, it's super annoying to need to cast amp 3-5 times each time you stop to kill instead of casting once and covering essentially the entire screen. Also there's nothing else much you need to put points into on this build. Maybe the 2 points to get down to revive. and Also, amp isn't maxed. It currently has 18 into it, it's the last one to pump up as you level at higher levels. Hope that answers all your questions.
If you spend several casts to cover the whole map that is time ypu could be casting corpse explosion reducing damage to your army and helping you clear faster.
@@SweetPhil that's fair. To each their own but I figured as a summoner you're not doing much else while your minions do all the work so you could invest those points into more bone armor def or decrep and some more summons.
@@supernova743 fair enough but with hotkeys and to switch faster and mobs rarely being the whole screen I figured since you aren't doing much as a summoner what's one extra click to be able to invest in more summons for fps or some more bone armor and decrep. 18 to amp damage seems a bit excessive.
I'm new Sub, Love d2r streamers. One day I will get a computer and move my Switch account over... I miss playing like I did back in the day. Diablo 2 is very nice on switch but you can't communicate... happy new year Phill, wish you all the best.
That's interesting. I have a more straight-laced Summoner running Trang set and beast, but no bramble. I did just drop a Sur off Pindle the other day though, might be time for me to modify my build and try out this one.
A summoning Snicker Manser is the most overpowered low effort build in the game even without Rune words, and I'm not complaining I absolutely love starting a ladder with this character, usually I play solo and I only get lucky enough to make the most simple Rune words like spirit and all of the level 20 stuff you can do from normal act 1 Rune runs, the only boss I had to revive any of my skeletons on was Diablo and all I had to do was use one town teleport and log back in and he was done for solo all the way up to Hell mode the summon Necromancer makes act two tunnels very simple as well great low effort build
Have the same exact build. Except I put pride on mercenary. CE is aready ridiculous on its own. Figured I built the army for a reason. Make them slap. Also brings down bosses faster since generally there’s no corpse near them
@@goshu7009 true. But I go for maximum skele potential. Because they’re the ones that have to boss kill in the end. And it’s still not a fast kill. Id rather have a booster army vs a slightly stronger merc for those instances
Why dont i see summon builds use the mages? I know they arent the strongest.. but wouldnt the numbers make up for it? I hardly make necros, im a barb main lol.
If you combine bramble with a poison Nova build you have some magic. +1 to summons, summon mastery, +5 blood golem(for your iron golem health) +battle orders from CTA, and bramble on a poison Nova build is pretty gg. You'll still retain all your poison Nova DMG, while now having a secondary damage dealer from your horde, to the point where you need only use amp DMG/corpse explosion. Act 2 might Merc obviously
Using summons reduces your poison damage. Every time a monster takes a hit they loose a frame of poison damage. You want to keep summons to a minimum while running poison nova.
@@supernova743 "Using summons reduces your poison damage." True... but you still kill faster then if you were just a summoner... One aspect to keep in mind is playing safe. Does 2 second faster kills outweigh the risk. Because that is the difference... its not huge second difference another point is that if you are using thorns aura you prevent monster healing when it gets poisoned so they are not regenerating their lost health. I tried using multishot (glove charges) with just one shitty poison charm that has like 6 second duration and it was insane. Monsters on players 8 in hell did infact suicide themselves because they were not allowed to regen their health because in hell on players 8 monsters regain a like 70%-80% of their HP from regen that they suffered from thorns. With multishot + psn charm you remove that for entire group for 6 seconds suffering always full damage. So yes the reason why thorns dont seem to do that much damage in hell on players 8 is due to regeneration monsters attack very slow and in that time they already regen but once they get hit with psn or open wounds that gets removed.
the problem with using brmable is u cant teleport, therefore making the build not as effective. ye you can switch but who wants to spend time switching armor constantly. just doesnt make sense and otherwise makes bramble unviable.
seems like it would be decent for torment zone clears, thats the thing corpse explosion is useless on bosses due to most of them are alone in fights so cant really clear em with the 20 points into it. i usefully go 1 point CE and less radius with + skill its usually good enough, and then 20 point in a raw boss dmg skill, so i can clear like diablo and baal runs with it. and point to revives for the bosses also. usually plus skill stuff its more then enough to nuke thru bosses on top of the zones.
@@salty4215 yup, mana pots man lol I've been playing this build since the original release of d2, not lod, d2! You get a bit of mana boost and regen through your gear, that helps a bit. BO helps a ton, a good caster amy is also great particularly if you can get the mana after kill perks on it. Try it on single player with hero editor, it works great and the mana situation is far less cumbersome than it looks like!
@mhebert350 I played it back then too! still remember that every point you put into Summon Skeleton would give you another skeleton, not every 3 after the first 3. Those were the days.

I always concentrate on CE and the merc with summoner. Skell, mages, revive only blockers for chilling gameplay. Merc with gullies and good weapon can easy make the first kill, also easy boss killer.
Increases the radius, so you can cast once and cover the whole screen. Basically there is nothing else important to put points into except for a few 1 point wonders
Boosting the power of summons is not so important since 98% of the damage output comes (or should come) from the CE. It is up to the (ideally max dps) mercenary to bring the first monster down. The skeletons are only there to take the heat off you and the merc. Maxing out CE is an absolute must, thus PnB skillers provide more value than summon skillers.
Nice and fun build, I run a Hustle Golem + Mist/bramble/cure on a act 1 Merc with freeze arrow and hoto on my hc necro with 350 mf and it deal with anything pretty nicely.
I like playing this "skele bro king"with a faith crossbow,it gives you a bit better speed frames for whole army, same +skills and an option of necro himself helping with a bit of physical dmg shooting with faith. Defense is awful though ,no blocking ,glass canon that's a lot of glass not much of a canon

It currently has 18 into it, it's the last one to pump up as you level at higher levels. Hope that answers all your questions.
QOL, it's nice to cast it once and it hits everyone in the entire dungeon. ;)
I'm new Sub,
Love d2r streamers. One day I will get a computer and move my Switch account over... I miss playing like I did back in the day. Diablo 2 is very nice on switch but you can't communicate... happy new year Phill, wish you all the best.
This makes me miss my CE summoner. But I also dread having to summon skellies every run
Hi Sweet Phill, make one video of summoning druid please, thank you.
Noted!
Have the same exact build. Except I put pride on mercenary. CE is aready ridiculous on its own. Figured I built the army for a reason. Make them slap. Also brings down bosses faster since generally there’s no corpse near them
Or just Obedience :)
@@goshu7009 that works for merc only. The pride at least gives concentration
@@FangFrenzy yes yes... but obedience is cheap and effective and combine great with amplify
@@goshu7009 true. But I go for maximum skele potential. Because they’re the ones that have to boss kill in the end. And it’s still not a fast kill. Id rather have a booster army vs a slightly stronger merc for those instances
1,2k cap defens? where do u find that items in single player? =))
"I don't prioritize survivability, unless I have a problem surviving."
Words to live by!
I recall using Beast and Last Wish back in the day on my summoner. Don't remember why though.
You missed the 20 points in Poison Nova and it's synergies ;) Cool summoner mate, I don't think I'd change much if any.
Happy new years Phil 😊🎉
I thought amp dmg caps at lvl 1 and only increase radius with more lvls?
@@supernova743
"Using summons reduces your poison damage."
True... but you still kill faster then if you were just a summoner...
I have one of these necro builds, absolutely my favorite to play.
the problem with using brmable is u cant teleport, therefore making the build not as effective. ye you can switch but who wants to spend time switching armor constantly. just doesnt make sense and otherwise makes bramble unviable.
seems like it would be decent for torment zone clears, thats the thing corpse explosion is useless on bosses due to most of them are alone in fights so cant really clear em with the 20 points into it. i usefully go 1 point CE and less radius with + skill its usually good enough, and then 20 point in a raw boss dmg skill, so i can clear like diablo and baal runs with it. and point to revives for the bosses also. usually plus skill stuff its more then enough to nuke thru bosses on top of the zones.
I always cast my iron golem from beast ad use leorics, never understood why people ruins their weapon slot with it
How do you get your med from Insight then?
@@salty4215 don't really need med after your army is all summoned, pots do it just fine that's no burden at all with bo
@@mhebert350 Teleport on anything but a Sorc is a huge mana drain, not to mention Amplify Damage and Corpse Explosion, I personally prefer it.
I'm not sure what edition of D2R you have. For me does not matter how many skellies-golemns-mercs i have around me, monsters seem to attack me first of all :(
There is a threat table, if your minion hits first, it should draw threat and example of this would be the Holy Fire on your Fire Golem.
Should make a last wish golem for fun LOLL. GG a Phil and happy late holidays to you n chat
i feel like 1 point in skell mage would work so you can have some range in it.
I thought socketed item cannot be blue prior to inserting ?
This is the necro i really want. Lol maybe kne day when i get all this good stuff 😆 thanks for the video dude 😎
Idk my first thought was... what if self use infinity, and act 5 merc with double beasts? do they stack? or one beast and some double aura thingy? holy fire or smth.... with bramble ofc :) if i remember correctly there is other 1h weapons with good auras.... just theorycrafting out loud :)
Auras from items should stack.
I always concentrate on CE and the merc with summoner.
Skell, mages, revive only blockers for chilling gameplay.
Merc with gullies and good weapon can easy make the first kill, also easy boss killer.
was litterly thinking about making bolth rune words last night lmao went and picked up bases to do so haha
I usually use beast for an iron gollum. Also wish thorns could be hell viable like the dragon and dream builds
Just curious why you'd use a non eth wyrmhide as opposed to a higher def ethereal base for your merc
Maybe to be able to use it on a character if wanted.
Bc he's on single player. Most likely didn't have a eth version. He touched on that in thr video
@@FarFrom_Puken oh shoot I must've missed that part. I kinda thought it might be SP tho. Thanks!
why do you waste skill points in amplify damage if its amplifying damage doesn't go up?
Increases the radius, so you can cast once and cover the whole screen. Basically there is nothing else important to put points into except for a few 1 point wonders
"I dont prioritize survivability" turns to look at those 543 vit lol
Boosting the power of summons is not so important since 98% of the damage output comes (or should come) from the CE. It is up to the (ideally max dps) mercenary to bring the first monster down. The skeletons are only there to take the heat off you and the merc. Maxing out CE is an absolute must, thus PnB skillers provide more value than summon skillers.
Love it. Keep up the good times!
Nice and fun build, I run a Hustle Golem + Mist/bramble/cure on a act 1 Merc with freeze arrow and hoto on my hc necro with 350 mf and it deal with anything pretty nicely.
For Amp you only need to put enough points into it to cover the screen anything more than that is just over kill
Is summon necro the easiest class to clear hell with? I need sunder charms and find sorc weak in hell
Easiest but quite slow unless you have great gear
@@asharedo
With thorns you get from Merc or Edge bow not so much.
You just travel to tristram get your army cursed by griswald travel back and watch enemies melt after you amp them. Then just repeat when amp on your army goes away. Also you can find multishot gloves that regular vendor sells add one long duration psn charm and just watch mobs suicide themselves with thorns since there is no more of their regen BS.
Online, I would revive 20 something cows when doing ubers. The sheer damage melts them away
Revive those ogre-type mobs from Act3 and Act4 (easiest to find them in the river of flame usually), they have crushing blow, if you have a stack of them they literally just delete ubers instantly.
@@asharedo That's true, but grouping at least 15 of them to be revived at the same time is so much easier with cows, and you have a nearly limitless supply of cows
Skeletal mages have always been worth 20 hard points. Especially with infinity. They do a lot of dmg against bosses. And Merc with treachery armor and cure helm is great. put 1 point into decrepify. Rest into golem mastery and he will survive if u make insight.
And u dont need beast, u can use hoto or another caster item
I would have liked to see the damage on the bosses :( obviously lower but is good to add.
You need to put one point into revive when you want to summon blunderbore and maulers for extra crushing blow.
I did hustle runeword early fanatiscism aura on my iron golem
Phil. Can you use insight on single player not on ladder?
Ladder only items from D2 LOD are available for anyone, only the runewords released within D2R are Ladder only.
What about the new GCS minus elements
What's the reason for having two spirit shields?
The one on swap for BO, and the orginal for the +2 skills, FCR, and resists.
Damage doesn't equal clearspeed. Eni is way to go always. Only exception might be a trav barb
Grats on the sic roll on Bramble
Anyone know what base stats for everything would be?
Make a Bramble for a video, it turns out being a thorns aura level 20 (cap) and poison dmg +48% (2% down from cap). Talk about luck.
Thorns goes from 15-21, so it's not quite cap, but still a great roll.
I'm certain that for pits a psn necro would be faster, at least on players 3 for sure.
Now that the skeleton mage got buffed, maybe it's a goos thing to have 20 hard points invested in that as well? I mean, you already have the 20 hard points in skeleton mastery, as well as infinity that alloes them to deal more damage
No, mages are still worthless. Llama did a test with a (modded) level 300+ skeleton mages and they could barely kill anything in Act 1 hell.
most despised build for co-op back in the day. would always lag you out or block you.
I actually really like this video, You handsome bastard.
I made a beast in a 15 Ed ogre mual for my wolf barb nice fun build
I cant stand summoning skeletons every new game :P
Should be like the Zombie Dogs in D3.
your necromancer has the respect
Budget is hustle cure and skin of the flayed one. Gear is wizspike or hoto shako skullder frw boots with mf nagels necro mf ammy and trang gloves. Swap najs staff
Definitely cool build but a pop necro (corpse explo) is still powerful without infinity and all those other runewords
You have just exposed the best kept secret in D2. .... love your vids Phil, but damn it!
Summon necro just take to long time. You need to go out and get mobs first for army. + Without enigma or tele staff/amu it sucks big time. Minions will run random around. + Normal minions if u dont have endless + to skills die in no time. Just my personal view on it.
I personally don't have fun unless I have at minimum a Najs Puzzler for teleport on summoner. So I essentially agree.
@@SweetPhil totally agree with the agree 💯 :)
You can summon in areas with weak enemies and then go to higher level areas. If you have access act 5 you can get some free summons there as well.
@@supernova743 my point takes time. By the time U gathered your minions and are heading out a sorc would already had cleared her first 1-2 objects.
yeah i did every runewords before
Between 15-21% poison skill on the bramble? What? You high? Where is that exactly? You mean thorns.
Great for cows too since theyre so nicely stacked together. 1 cow ded = whole screen ded
I didn't know about that armor... #auragasm
those extra points in amp damage hurt. who needs a curse bigger than the screen? just put those points elsewhere.
Add a wish projector for spirit of barbs!
Thanks for this nice Introduction, but all these Videos start with these expensive Runewords. 😢 A normal Summoner Necro is difficult to play...
Nah - He can be played with much less expensive gear. He is fine with Bone armor and a telestaf on swits. Obedience and treachery on hireling - and you are fine.
@@nightworg totally agree with u. Plus, if you put edge runeword in your necromancer,u can get thorn aura in your party easily even without bramble runeword.
Meh enigma is how you “command” your army tho
and now try to kill a boss ... like baal.... thats why i prefer revive instead of boneshild
that should TEAR through bosses!
I would like to see your single player collection it appears you have quite a lot
Dumping all those points into iron golem is a major waste.
