The bookshelves are such a perfect solution, I appreciate the symmetry 👌🏼 A little molding would make them feel even more built in, and a tension rod with fabric could conceal what’s behind… just an idea! 💕
Yep.....l basically have the same thing going on with the shelves, l knew there was a reason I kept all of my mom's sewing material, even cute leftover sheets folded to hide the edges would work until you come across something cuter. I live about an hour outside of Vegas so to find a huge piece of casino print material was such a treat.
We moved from 2200 sq ft to 950 sq ft home 2 yrs ago. Best move ever! I now have time to really develop my skills for all things…gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing and the list goes on:)
To minimize the visual clutter you could put curtains over the bookshelves used for pantry/storage if it fits your style. Your place is very warm and cozy.
You can decant the puzzles and games into plastic bags. Just cut top off puzzles so you know what they’re. Then label the front of the games . If the boards for the games don’t fit in the plastic bag they store easily in a container. Plus if you put the bags with puzzles and games in a container it saves A LOT of space and looks more cohesive ❤ Just found your channel and I’m 😍
The shelves fit perfectly! I used to have a pantry shelf in my garage, but the last few summers have been so hot that he garage got to over 85 degrees! We actually had a bottle of beer explode! (Food should be stored between 50 and 70 degrees.) Now I have a small cabinet in my sewing room.
My pantry in my kitchen is on an outside wall that gets very hot afternoon sun. I live in South Texas so it gets hot in summer. I finally had to move some baking items and nuts to my garage fridge so they wouldn't be rancid when I wanted to use them.
I love how you have made your house work for your family. A little creativity goes a long way! Just a future video idea - I would love to hear how your living expenses have changed since going from a large home to a 1000 sq ft trailer. I'm sure your utilities have changed alot!
Hi, thanks for watching and for your kindness! I’ll be sharing some year updates and reflections about living in the home, so be sure to check back around the end of May for that specific topic. 🙂
I love this series ❤ I have a huge issue with visual clutter. Even if something is pretty, too much makes me anxious. It's taken years for me to figure that out and I'm still trying to find the balance between bare and cozy. I'm glad you mentioned it in this video.
Those bookshelves are perfect for the space!! Very streamlined. You’ve really maximized your space and it looks great! I’m currently working on using pantry and freezer food up. Our deep freezer especially needs to be cycled through. 😃 If I don’t think we will use a particular food, I’ll often offer it to my daughter, which helps. Have a blessed week!
I love your jars! So pretty! And I know you the shelves are not super pretty but I’ve learned in small living that sometimes function has to be more important! I think the baskets you have used make it look nice!
Thank you for this series! We’re moving my elderly parents into our home and trying to mesh 2 separate households into one. Your ideas are helping me so much!! More please!! More!! 🌸😊☕️
You have made the most out of all of your spaces without it looking cluttered; everything looks so neat and tidy. Your stove looks a lot like the stove we had which was 29 years old before it broke down and we had to replace it. And that drawer under the stove was a lot bigger than the drawer that is in our new stove. I lost a significant amount of storage space from that drawer. The overflow is now in the cabinet under the kitchen counter and it has made a huge difference in what I can keep in both the under the stove drawer and that cabinet shelf. The cabinet still fits the slow cooker but I have an electric skillet that I have to keep on the counter top because I put the extra oven pans under in the cabinet. But there is nothing I wanted to get rid of so both spaces are stuffed bout to bust. Love the idea of the shelves the way you have used them.
I use the tall bookshelves to store my groceries and I hang a beautiful curtain to cover up the food on them. It hides the food and makes it look better.
I love the way you think outside the box in your storage. My favorite is a little cabinet by your island with your dry goods. Everything looks organized and beautiful Kellie.
I love how creative you are and your home is beautiful. Heres a crazy idea. What if you turned the shelf around a put it on some type of pull out system? It would have to be built into something that you could slide it out to access things in it. But it would be sturdy and not be able to tip over. The shelves would then face the kitchen rather than the living room.
I also live in a mobile home (single wide). I have learned to always buy cabinets with doors, it’s a game changer if you have no storage. I also suggest if you wanted to hide it a bit to use a curtain over the selves so you can open it when needed but shut when not using it. I am lucky to have a walk in laundry room that I can use also as a pantry but that is about it for storage Ugh, it’s a struggle also. Great ideas thought 😊
Thanks for your kind words and for the request! I’ll be sharing some reflection videos ones we’ve been in the home for a year (end of May) so check back then!
I just found your channel and can so relate! Just moved into our 900 sq ft mobile 9 months ago and I'm still struggling with storage especially the kitchen! I so look forward to seeing what you have done with your small living space and looking for inspiration for mine! I did use the bookshelf idea for the kitchen for our dishes and some food. I took a tension rod. Sewed two pieces of fabric with hem on top so it looks like curtains and that covered up the open shelves and easy to open the curtain to access what we need. I would attach a photo but don't know how. 😊♥️
We have a small home with 6 of us living here (4 kiddos)..our pantry is closed up and has a door but it's pretty much the same size as your shelf but not as deep. It has always been great to have since our home is old and pantries are not common in old homes. Great tips and ideas! Love the shelf at the end of your island!
I feel like we have such similar minds! I literally look at organizing in “zones” as well! It helps so much! I use a tiny tension rod and curtains to conceal the little open space in my kitchen! I wonder if that would work for those bookshelves? Even a little hook on the side to pull a linen curtain back? You do such a good job of making it look tidy regardless! Thanks for sharing!
Down the road I wonder if you could have a cabinet built that slides out and has shelves for them”pantry. So it’s enclosed, still readily available, but not with the washer and dryer? Love the decanted jars.
I don't think I like the idea of having food in the same place as laundry detergent, bleach etc. I really do like how you store/display the dry goods in your custom shelving unit. I would try to find folding doors for the two white IKEA cabinets. I prefer for items to be behind doors and not seen. It does not look so cluttered if you cannot visually see them.
The bookshelves are such a perfect solution, I appreciate the symmetry 👌🏼 A little molding would make them feel even more built in, and a tension rod with fabric could conceal what’s behind… just an idea! 💕
Ok, I want to do both of those things now 😍
😊I thought to myself, Hilary would put trim around the shelves.
yes, I was going to say the same thing about a tension rod and fabric or curtains.
I was going to say the same thing

Thanks for the tip and for the kind words ❤️
Thank you for this video ! It actually shows real life , not many do that .....
Thank you! That’s important to me and I try to always be real.
Life experience...bolt the ikea cabinets to the wall with "L" brackets at the top. Those shelves provide such great pantry storage.
I appreciate that insight!
The bookshelves are great for that area and fit perfectly. Consider doors to hide the visual and it would be perfect. Your home is beautiful.
Thank you, great idea!

Thanks so much for the helpful tip! Happy to have you here- glad you’re enjoying!
One thing I have is most closets have space to add an extra shelf above the top shelf. My husband added extra shelves to our closets.
That's a great idea!
I love the dry goods area. The jars look so pretty. And those bookshelves are perfect! Such a score! It all feels very intentional ❤
Thank you Kelly!

Wow, what an experience! That’s pretty scary. Thanks for providing the temps- that’s definitely helpful. 🙂

Yes, I think we all have to find our right balance with it and there isn’t a right or wrong answer! Thanks for watching!

You are so welcome! Glad it’s helpful to you!
Cute home! I would have to thin out those games/puzzles.
True, it is a lot of puzzles and games. Thanks for watching 🙂
Love this and the mason jar idea. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing how you make your space work for you! It is challenging, but definitely doable!
Love this series as I am planning to downsize in the next few years. I would love to know more about your budget and how it was affected by your move.
Thanks for your kind words and for the request! I’ll be sharing some reflection videos ones we’ve been in the home for a year (end of May) so check back then!
You have a huge bathroom. What about a white cabinet with doors against the wall. You could store a lot of stuff in there! -- Mrs. N
Thanks for the video. I'm loving this series.
Glad you are enjoying it!
Absolutely loving this series!
Happy you find it helpful!
New sub here. 👋 Love this series. I’m in about 1300 sq ft and always looking for ways to organize and simplify.
Welcome, April! So happy to have you here and hope this series can inspire you!

I agree about our minds working in a similar way 🙂 love those little ideas!

Great thoughts, thanks!!
I wouldn’t put food in the laundry room. The heat from the dryer and moisture from the washer wouldn’t be good for your food.
Thanks for your feedback 🙂

U need doors keep the cabinets but with doors
How tall are you so I can see how your 333 wardrobe fits?
Hi Judy, I am 5’ 6” 🙂
But if you get cabinets, the same size with the worst, you can hide everything
